I have a question about number agreement.
Are these correct?

"Have you ever met an involved parent who want their student to be a begger?"
"We never see a parent who force their children to be a ‘begger’."
"What sort of parent do you think would want their children to be a begger?"

One native speaker thinks those are not, for the following reason.

The correct sentences would be:

I disagree with this one.
It would be correct if lithium and oxygen had the same atomic number, but they do not (lithium is 3, oxygen is 8).

You could say that. It's grammatically correct.
When you're talking about something in a general sense like this, it is common to use the singular,
even though you are not talking about an individual spider monkey.
This is like one of the sentences from >>14, 'A child becomes an adult when they turn 18.'
Obviously it's not talking about one particular child, but about all children.
Similarly, 'a spider monkey has a long tail' is an acceptable way of saying that all spider monkeys have
long tails.

I'm sorry if these answers aren't making things any simpler. It's hard to think of any kind of rule,
because there are so many exceptions. Now that I come to think of it, English is pretty messed up.
I'm glad I don't have to learn it.

But there are some cases where getting the number agreement wrong does make the sentence incorrect.

I would never use that phrase, and nor would any other native speaker.

I started using a chair without back support about one month ago.

I`d been reading some articles about English in 2ch
I truely believe that there will be a strong advantage if you`re able to speak and write English

I don`t think using English is very special thing, but Im pretty confused when some Japanese
attack the people who speaks English as their second language

The advantage is just an advantage. There is no more or less than that

It is so hilarius to hear that some people who can`t even speak English
critisizing without any understanding. I know some people are stupid enough

To be real, as long as Japan is the island, we need to trade,

I`ve had an experience of volunteer in USA, but it was really quite different
from Japanese nursing home. It was more kind than so sports-minded
so that the patients in nursing homes were really feeling comfortable
Not that tense. It so sad to see that some patiences are frightened

I`ve seen this single mom, who easily get temper, she is a caretaker,
but she was awful. She threw a towel in my face. Before that she had done
many things but it wasnt that serious. A towel scratched my eye so I got so
pissed called my boss and we had a long talk. She said she`s not quitting
no matter what, but I didnt want to be with her anymore so eventhough,
nursing home asked me to stay,like so many times, I made a decision to quit

I`d never ever seen that kind of rude and barbarian type in my whole life!

The elderly carries a lot of problem so it is very important to
concentrate on our work but she had this mood change so often
Some patients were really frightened

I still remember boss murmuring, "she done it again, I knew it"
I was totally suprised!

Acutally, there were another colleague, who had this violent behavior,
but this single mom was the worst. They were always together though

After I quit a job, I heard many of the classmates who had the same class
quit their jobs too at the nursing homes. No one really wanna get involved with
physically violent people

But I really loved working there. Eventhough, it was a low wage,
it was so nice to see some elderly get better and happy each day
I got a lot of satisfaction from that job

Many house wives are working as volunteers saying that working in such a place
is pretty hard do to human stress. They are all timid, calm and kind women

I feel much safer to work at the different occupation, eventhough,
it wont give me a much satisfaction. I just wanted to work in the safe environment,
where violence dont rule the working place

If I ever forgive that towel incident, I knew that they just start to escalate
their bad behaviors. It was so nice to hear that many colleagues felt safe
after I reported to my boss.

I`m trying to understand their difficulties, but it is surely not an excuse to be violent to others
esp at the workplace as long as they receive money

In nursing homes, as old people who live there are, I think in a kind, abandoned, even people in charge of care of them
might tend not to treat them as human-being. The same things apply to baby sitters, who often are taken in a camera, bullying
and beating babies in other countries.

To sing along thing like in the kindergarden is pretty humiliating
eventhough, we explain to them, it`s just a rehab
It`s so understandable. But I was so suprised to see some female staffs
forcing them to do so. I just leave them b/c I feel their pride is in stake

Elderly male is so shocked when they fail to go to bathroom. They dont even
want no help from care-giver eventhough they`re in a wheelchair
So when they fail, I go clean the bathroom long after they`ve gone to bathroom
but some staffs are so insensitive saying, " oh! he peed everywhere" outloud!
I feel great anger but when that staff is a senior, I have no words
