Hey!!! you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis, Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers, Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters, Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, cunning linguists, stupid fan girls of Johnny's Boys, and an electrical super gay who suffers from mental disease And let's hope the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!
I wonder what >>1 was drinking. I wonder which is faster, Igirisu-jin's comeback or the end of commotions about leaking radioactive substances from the nuclear plant.
>>10 Haha the name "Dr. Serkan Toto" sounds funny. But his English is perfectly fine, he could be American or British. Alternatively, he could not be a native speaker and just be very fluent. I think he's right though, English Niconico probably won't work well.
>10 There's no point in an english niconico that has the content separated from the japanese. The only reason an English-speaker would want to go to niconico is to see content made by Japanese people. Otherwise it's just Youtube with annoying words flying across the screen. (Not that I wouldn't love to see a legitamate competitor to crappy youtube)
>>12 No weird expression in his posts? not a bit? I often see the title Dr. in American or maybe UK. I assume American society value PhD. more than any other country and they are very pround of having PhD, I take it.
>>13 English speaking people can make their own culture of niconico there. At least you can communicate in English by posting English comment there.
Let me give news about my twitter to all you. I've changed my icon and background on my twitter. Both are related to popular Japanese drama, Tantei monogatari(A detective's story) starring late Japanese actor Yusaku Matsuda.
My icon is the captured image of the drama's opening that he is on his way to make coffee before drink it and shoot out from his mouth. lol.
Can anyone tell me whether one of these extensions will send me back to the thread automatically after I post, so I won't have to use the bookmark repeatedly?
My Japanese isn't good enough to understand the descriptions.
>>31 Use read.crx. It works quite nicely. The others may be good but I wouldn't know. Read.crx has its own little mini-browser which does return you to your thread after posting (posting replies is in a popup window) but you can also bookmark threads within the app.
>>35 A test post from read.crx. I don't understand all the buttons, but then, I never understood all the buttons on the website either, so that's no loss. Looks cool. Thanks, nanashi.
We have are having the most beautiful Easter break ever in the UK. The flowers in bloom, the doves cooing, blackbirds singing. The moon (was) full and red and bright at night English springs are truly romantic, In this town of the eccentric Spring time is sooo pretty! Definitely a time for romance. Alas! I have no time for making merry...
Today I had two classes in interschool. After school, I went to Tower Record round about there and bought five 5 CDs.
Chuck Berry/The best of Chuck Berry ABBA/Gold(Greatest hits) Back street boys/Greatest hits-Chapter one Led Zeppelin/Mother ship And Aerosmith/O,yeah!-Ultimate Aerosmith hits
It's been a long time to buy CDs. Incidentally, I long for LADY GAGA's new album, Born this way be released on 23th May in Japan. I've already had her album, The fame monster. And I like the songs of the album. Oh, I'm seeing her official website now. The new album jacket is so strange. GAGA bicycle? lol Anyway, Golden week will come to all of us Do you have some plans to do on the special holidays? me? I... I still don't have any plans. haha As the Beatles and Japanese rock band, Mr.Children says in their songs, Tomorrow never knows! That's why I still don't have any plans. This video is Madonna's song's MV, Holiday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDvHO5ZSGo8&feature=related
>>31 If you put a cursor on each icons of the page, they show descriptions of each extention. a few of the popups are written in English. Among Japanese popups there written in Japanese, there's no explanations about whethere they provide the feature you need.
The description of the popups of read.crx. icon means just "2ch browser." Maybe the extention has the feature you need. I don't know much about 2ch browsers and extentions or addons for 2ch, so I don't know. Maybe nanashi's right.
English board 2ch requires you to post at least 30 seconds interval, if your post intervals are longer than that, that's OK. They don't take just three consecutive posts with longer than 30 seconds intervals as spams, I'd say.
>>47 I bet it's like the olden days, hundreds of years ago - when it gets dark, you just go to bed, because there's nothing else to do when you can't see. Heh.
>>47>>49 I don't live in a region affected by power shortage. I read somewhere people in the affected region are trying to save energy on their own way so the consumption of energy has reduced hence, no planned rolling power outage. People there are what they can and I don't think they're in a big trouble.
But they have to be more thrifty regarding power consumption in summer when AC is used the most often. I think old people or people with poor health condition die more than average year because of heat this year.
>>49 If that lifestyle becomes norm here, maybe birth rate will go up because all young couples can do for entertainment is have sex at night. To think the current low birth rate here, it's good news. I heard the same thing happen in U.S. or some other places. Ten months after the big power outage, hospitals there were busy with handling new born babies.
>>53 If you want to increase the birth rate, I think there are easier ways to do it. Maybe Japanese people have become wary of the fact that children are very expensive and are difficult to manage, as well as that it represents a very permanent bond with your partner (so I think, although I am not Japanese). But that is the logical way to think of it, and while it is good to be logical, Japanese people must think more logically: each child born is a benefit for the future, and will be another productive member of society. Plus, eventually that child will take care of you when you are old.
Anyway, I hear in Japan it is said that the human gestation period is 10 months. In the US we say that it is 9 months. Scientifically, it is much closer to 9 months on average. So why do Japanese people say 10 months?
>>56 If you look at the problem of aging population, the logical thinking is very important and what you suggest is very true in wide perspective. But the fact is that nobody gets married and have a baby, thiking about the future of a country. Nobody thinks, "Yes, let's have more kids because Japan would suffer from graying society if we didn't have more kids." People are basically selfish creatures nobody thinks about seriously about the future of their country. Kids would get angry if they come to know that their mom give birth to them with obligation that they have to take care of old parents. I know what you meant to say, though.
I've heard about the difference of 10 and 9 months, too. Maybe it depends on form when you count pregnancy? I'm not sure because I was born in the form of an egg and kept in Kotatsu until I came out cracking open its shell.
>>47 Speaking of power consumption, the persentage in your trip code and the number of the gauge on top left of this page means what percent of consumption capacity are currently used now. Just what I thought....
Coming all the way to this thread in English board among other ones in 2chan and kindly suggest we should stop taliking in English? What an idiot you are. Ooppps...Couldn't help but feeding a troll. w
Speaking of jerking off, how long does Japan plan to keep censoring its porn? "Censored porn" is like an oxymoron as far as the rest of the world is concerned.
>>64 Looks like you have a strange way of choosing threads then, eh?
>>67 I've noticed that too. It's definitely a bit strange. I wondered, though: Are the Japanese actually stuck with that junk, or is it easy enough to access foreign websites?
>>60 I use Chrome because it starts up quicker, and I think it performs a bit faster in general, too. Plus, it uses less of my system resources than Firefox.
On the other hand, Firefox's extension system is much better and more powerful than Chrome's. Adblock, for example, work much better in Firefox. And there are many things that are possible in Firefox that simply can't be done in Chrome. Therefore, I have both installed, but I only use Firefox for specific purposes.
>>68 Searching for 無修正 yields plenty of uncensored porn, so I guess they have access to it. You can also download uncensored versions of some videos (the ones that were exported to other countries) off Share and shit. Too bad most of the good ones don't get exported.
>>70 I'd presume Japan can access generally all the same porn as other countries can. But the issue is Japanese porn that is only released censored. As you said though, if it is exported to somewhere like the US for example, it is generally uncensored and then Japanese can download/buy the US version.
Hey this reminds me, I've been hearing a lot about Tokyo Bill 156 and its intent to start filtering content on mobile phones and the internet and eventually to start removing sexually explicit depictions of children entirely from anime and manga. However, to me this seems to be one of the more defining characteristics of Japanese animated pornography or just ecchi- the depiction of schoolchildren in provocative situations (alongside women with extremely large breasts). The anime and manga industries have strongly opposed this bill. I oppose it too, because I think censorship (especially of people who aren't real, or "nonexistent youths") is silly.
The great thing about Japanese porn laws is that they censor genitalia because it's "obscene", but they're completely fine with all the fucked up porn out there so long as it's censored. You'd think someone would just walk into a Japanese court, show an uncensored porn video and one of those videos based around shoving insects inside women (censored) side by side and they'd pretty much have no choice but to change the laws. Then, we'd all be able to see Hamasaki Rio suck a dick without half her face being a mosaic.
I wonder if Japanese people agree that their censorship laws make no sense.
>>76 In this case it's a part of a verb and the verb means s "respond" or "Answer." 答える is the original form of the verb and pronounced as "kotaeru."
>>75 The second line is perfect but I'm afraid I don't understand the first line's "hanashite iina" part. Maybe be you meant You gotta speak/post in English.
Maybe be he doesn't know you guys are native English speakers. This is a thread to practice writing in English but for some reason I can imagine, he doesn't like it.
>>78 Well, >>75 made sense to me. It's close to how I would have translated it. What if he wrote, "英語で話してもいいね" Does that one work? Maybe that changes the meaning a bit. I think mine would come out more like, "It's fine if you speak english," although what we'd rather say is, "It's better if you speak English," or even "You should speak English here."
>>85-86 >Can you not remove the も in that case? Yes. >but I guess 英語を might work too. Yes.
This thread's sole purpose is to chat in English so while both are correct, the ways you say is a bit out of context. I don't know if I use "out of context" properly, though. I mean, "have to" speak English here.
>>87 No, I did literally mean 「英語で話してもいい」。 That's because >>73-san was saying not to talk in English, and I replied, "You troll. It's fine to talk in English. In fact, we ought to speak in English."
>>88 I think the difference may come from the difference between our standpoints. In your standpoint as an English speaker, you "may" speak in English, which is your native tongue, in this thread when in fact 2chan is Japanese forums and almost all posts have to be posted in Japanese.
In my standpoint as an English learner, there's a sense of mandatory, compulsary when I post here in English. Actually posting in Japanese is a lot easier. So for me I "have to" speak in English in this thread reflect my standpoint well and suits better.
Nanashi man you are so direct sometimes! Maybe it is the American way. In the UK they (the native speakers ) "skirt around the issue" or "beat about the bush". Igirisujin-san where are you???
>>39 Thanks Umechi-san for your well wishes. I was working most of the time but had time for exercise and walks as well. Tomorrow is a public holiday, we are marrying off da prince.
Pastime with good company I love, and shall until I die. Grudge who lust but none deny, So God be pleas'd thus live will I. For my pastance, hunt, sing, and dance, my heart is set All goodly sport, for my comfort, who shall me let?

Company with honesty, Is virtue, vices to flee. Company is good and ill, but every man hath his free will. The best ensue, the worst eschew, my mind shall be Virtue to use, vice to refuse, thus shall I use me.
>>115 It's 10pm right now in Las Vegas. How are you? Don't worry. Nobody will laugh at you here. Everyone has a different skill level. At least you're not >>64
Native speakers probably don't laugh at my English if they know I am non-native. But among Japanese who learn Englsih, there has been a certain atmosphere that If someone speaks awkward English, some of them laught at him. Even in this thread, I sometimes see such a person turn up and criticize others.
>>117 Screw them. There is nothing to gain by paying attention to negative people. I will tell you something interesting that I have noticed as a native speaker, though. Whenever someone posting on an English site apologizes and says it isn't their first language, those people tend to be very good. You might be amazed at the crap some native people write.
Some gaijin youtuber guy was telling people to just make as many embarrassing mistakes as you want, because that way you will remmeber the mistakes and learn the language fast. Or something like that. I agree with him.

>>120 There are a couple of us foreigners that found this thread and decided to participate. Sparky is from Louisiana, for example. That's in the southern US, on the Gulf of Mexico. I think most of the others with names are also foreign. But I don't know specifically.
>>123 Of course! I think it helps you. After all, even I realize that nobody says "今日は。私の名前はジュークッです。どうぞよろしくお願いします" all the time. It's the same thing. You want to learn to speak like a native, right? So there's no need to always be so polite. At least, that's what I think.
>>126 I wonder how long this took to write. I guess Saito finally went off the deep end.
>>135 I'm from Boston. But I only go to school here, and I'm leaving tomorrow.
>>117 If you use fairly polite English even if it's bad you'll be fine. Rarely is someone's English so bad that we can't understand it. Only then is it a problem. But if you try using offensive English and you're not totally fluent, you sound like an idiot. (ahem >>121) Your English is fine though.
>>135 Speaking of Hakata, I remember a foreigner who told me that he had studied abroad in Hakata before. If my memory serves me correctly, I talked with him in a thread titled " 日記スレ” He talked about his host family and taught me some Hakata dialects. Are you the same person as him?
>>140 No, that wasn't me. I have only been around two threads: This one, and another that was called something like, "Native speakers, come and help us!" where people could ask questions about English. I don't think that thread is still continuing though.
>>163 Thanks. Yes it is a 1998 Ford Mustang. Those are the Sierra Nevada mountains. The picture was taken in northern Las Vegas, facing west. California is on the other side of the mountains. The Appalachian mountains are in the east. It's a bit hard to read, but you can see a map of mountain ranges in the US here: http://www.mapsofworld.com/usa/usa-maps/united-states-mountain-ranges-map.jpg
>>165 The last couple things we've been talking about are Hakata salt (What does that even mean?), my car, ancient poetry, and the true origin of Sparky.
I think I should have said the culture of the United Kingdom, not England. But some website I found by googling says that 64 percent of Scottish people would rather watch paint dry. I like them.
>>169 yes, I read the same kind of thing on the Net and got a bit worried. That's one of the reasons I can't make up my mind yeeet. Do you think Arkansas is also dangerous??
come to think of it, there's nothing a sea shepherd topics in this board recently, innit? please someone update this comment to other Aussie board.
sea shepherd member, don't eat a meat every yr supper forever. a cow is really sorry coz they're killed by human's meal !! thus don't kill a cow and never eat a meat anymore especially sea shepherd members !! now, i wonder why they eat a meat, please tell me why?
i think, they're really bad members crowd. their comments haven't got an unfounded anything coz there're lots of whale currently by national investigation report. but they always only demand that japanese fishing boats don't get a whale.
Animals should have to eat other animals this is normal an ecological system in this planet of earth. even if they request ban eating other life, they want to exterminate humans from the earth. this is really unbelievable and crazy request for us. it looks like somewhere occult religion group !! japanese people eating whales action is really nomal action as well as we eat a meal of cow !!
Forget sea schepard, they are owacon now. I just heard that the dirty miserable Koreans bribed the skate judges again, and Kimchona's failed jump got a ridiculously high score. I hope the dirty shit drinking race will keep doing dirty tricks because once the world becomes aware of how low Koreans are, they will pay dearly for that.
So, i dislike Koreans too. and these informations are able to expect already. As u know, their gathering a gift of money for japan's massive earthquake hasn't contributed to disaster places at last. they suddenly stop to contribute because japanese gavernment has acknowledged to express on a school text book a problem of Takeshima. but i know, this is a usual strained interpretation by them. Takeshima problem and disaster are different occurrence but they seems to be same. they're really crazy nationalism.
>>181 i'm a japanese. i don't think they are ordinary people even in the japanese society. but i'd like to say english education system in japan has stil been for elites. offending people don't know that anyone can speak foreign languages easily.
Yesterday, I was watching the live of UK Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding on BBC News website and after You Tube. Ah, it was so magnificent wedding. The noise of cheering to the new couple was so loud. I guess all English people came to there. I'm wondering if any- body lives in UK and comes here came to there yesterday...
However, I felt bad a little bit when BBC News reported the news about tornado attckes in US after the live. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13235808 While UK is in happy mood, US is in unhappy mood. Oh..., how pitiful America is...
Anyway, I hope the Prince and the new Princess's love is everlasting.
Now, I'm gonna introduce some Japanese wedding songs for all foreign 2channelers here.
1. Can you celebrate?/Namie Amuro(Incidentally, she broke down with Japanese music group TRF's dancer and husband, SAM some long ago. So, I guess the song is no longer used in some wedding ceremonies in Japan...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrSQDDR4wYY 2. Towa ni tomoni(Be together forever)/Kobukuro(two of both aren't still married. But, certain comedian sang this song on his wedding ceremony broke down with his wife(famous and popular actoress) for about 2years...), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9_WXgEkjns 3.Kekkon shiyouyo(Be a couple)/Takuro Yoshida(He also broke down with his wife(signer but poor at singing...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBPqA1TGpA
I wanna introuduce more. But, I can't remember now. Because, so many songs.
Umechi-san I worked a 10 hr shift from home and did not even look at the news! It was worth it, solved a problem that was holding me up for the last few weeks. I watched Cartoon Kat-tun in my break time. I guess I am not good at keeping up with the royal family news. Are you trying to imply that some wedding songs cause couples to separate? Thanks for the links!
I am thinking of inviting Akanishi Jin to talk about his English learning experiences here. I don't know whether he would do it or not. He replied to one fan only once to thank her. I know he is working hard in Budapest filming 47 Ronin. Maybe in the evening he would be bored and drop by here.
>>194 In case you didn't know, "pitiful" usually has an derogatory connotation. It's basically synonymous with "pathetic", it implies looking down on someone/something or contempt.
Your usage is technically correct, but it is uncommon and kind of old-fashioned. I've seen you use it this way a few times, and it stuck out to me as strange. It's hard to think of a different word, though, maybe "unfortunate"? "woeful"?
Looking through the thesaurus I realize that English has a ton of words that mean "deserving of pity/compassion" that also usually mean "deserving of contempt". Weird.
Yeah, Japanese dictionaries must list "pitiful" as a definition for 可哀そう, because I see that mistake a lot. It really means something more along the lines of 情けない. It's weird how hard it is to express that in English. You kind of have to rephrase the entire sentence to make it sound natural. 「Poor〜」「It must be hard on〜」
203 Good to hear that your family is okay. I feel sorry for all the victims of たつまき. I think earthquakes rarely happen in the area but torunados. We're helpless against unexpected natural disasters : /
Prince Harry?, Henry? (The name slipped my mind.) has got married. He looks like a very shy guy (resembling the former Princess Diana,) while the brides looks too confindent in herself. I bet her favorite sex style is horseback riding style, grinding her hip like hell while the prince is passively lying on his back. I can imagine she handcuffs him while doing it.
>>215 Same as me, for a long time. But the ISP I have here since I moved is apparently not on the ban list. I just got lucky. Let's hope the other missing people will too.
Well Igirisujin san is OK, it is indeed his ISP problem, He can read but cannot post. It happened to me a few times. I guess you guys can go on to chatango and chat to him there. Or follow him on twitter. I do.
Does Japanese have a word for 'inconvenient?" Or is the negative form of 便利 the best I can do?
It came up in conversation earlier today, and I got a little stuck. I worried that how I ended up saying it probably wasn't the best. On the other hand, the person I was talking to is probably only as good at Japanese as I am, so maybe he didn't even notice.
>>237 Propbably 不便(ふべん)is the word you're looking for. 不 works almost the same way as in- as in incovenient, ir- as in irregular, im- as in impossible. I said "almost" because we don't say 不便利, somehow we just say 不便. That's probably the difference between in-, ir-, im- and 不. I mean, in case of in-, im-, ir-, if you delete in, im, ir, the rest still serves as a one word having the opposite meaings respectively.
Yes, to be more presice as you may notice, 便 can serve as one word, too but 便(べん) alone can't mean 便利. When you see 便(べん)alone, it means stool. It's the medical term of poo. 便 can also be read like びん. in that case, it means "flight" as in Next flight to Tokyo. The way you read 便 change it's meaning. Complex, it is.
>>238 Oh, thanks I checked. His account description made me laugh. He should have used Noriaki, Cool Tak or Candle Jun for his image photo but no, probably Suquid is better Squid would never claim for copyright or anything. The icon of the squid is kind of cute.
KG2ch, never know you love Akanishi, too. I thought the Turtle is the only one you love. How did you make the icon? Do you make it by photoshop or something? I don't know much about this kind of thing so maybe I'm asking a stupid question.
>>241 He should have put a cute Hirouse for his image photo. Do you think Johnny Kitegawa's gang would take me to prison for having that sexy Kame background? I follow Jin because his twitter is Official. There was a Turtle twitter running until recently. It had more than 30,000 followers including Japanese fans. I used to think it was fake. One day Jin's fans played a joke and posted a clip saying " I love Kamenashi Kazuya" as if it was his own tweet. The Kame twitter account disappeared instantly. I would of course follow Kame, if only he had an offical account! I made my icon in power point, then took a screen shot and cut aroud its edges in Paint. I can make one for you too if join twitter!
I'm an MD. It is a holiday, nevertheless, I attended my patient who had been dying for two weeks. He passed away in about the noon. I'll get about ten sousand yen as the reimbersement from the public medical insurance. I think it is unfair.
now ive just watched an exraordinary child on TED talk! The girl, who is olny 12, stated her own opinion in as sofisticated way as capable and experienced CEO does! Im just stuned to see how self-confindent she was. She must be a prodigy I guess. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
>>242 Thanks for the detail info about how to make the icon. Sounds like it took a lot of steps to complete it. Thanks for you offer but I'm not thinking about starting Twitter, although I keep updated with some people's tweets, who are not in show business.
>>239 Oh, that's probably it. I did end up just saying 便利じゃない
>>240 Thanks for the explanation. It's so tough keeping track of all the different meanings for kanji. That's the worst part of learning Japanese, for me. Fucking kanji, man.
>>243 I was tempted to just say something ridiculous as an example, like, "It would be inconvenient to cut off my foot," or "I was going to sleep with Cheryl Cole yesterday, but there was traffic so it was too inconvenient." But in the end, that sort of thing doesn't do anyone any good, so here's the actual conversation:
At the time, I responded to my friend's text message with, "hai! wakarimasu!" just because I thought it would be funny. Then he asked me, "iidesu. Watashitachiwa nihongode tekusuto shimasuka?" And I told him, "Tanoshii kedo benri ja nai to omou. Suki ni shiro." My phone won't allow me to send text messages with Japanese characters, and his probably wouldn't be ably to read them. So it's romaji.
It's interesting how, when I was first learning Japanese, I always wanted romaji, but now that I'm used to kana and kanji, it actually seems harder to read romaji. Has anyone else noticed an effect like that?
>>253 >Has anyone else noticed an effect like that?
I'm Japanese but I think I know how you feel. There's another step waiting for you. When you begin to recognize much more Kanji, I bet it will seem harder to read writing consists of only katakana and Hiragana.
>>264 I dunno. If he had been captured alive, we could have made a bigger show of it, like with Hussein. Parade him around a bit, throw him on a trial (just for show, of course) and then kill him. Americans love a spectacle.
(Continued >>268) And I've been using it as my avator on my twitter.
Anyway, today I had to do a presentation to all classmates and class professor in class in my university. My presentaion including a video I found on and downloaded from You Tube. But, the school laptop I used for my presentaion didn't work. Oh my God... Then I did that without letting all classmates and professor watch the video. It couldn't be helped...
>>266 He's just a symbol of Islamic radicals. Lots of other Islamic militants with similar hatred agains US are around the world, I believe. He has already seeded his ideas to his fellow desciples so his death doesn't necessarily mean safer America. What's worse, American people has to expect retalitation.
>>268 Igirisu-jin draws very nice picture. It's modeled after Yusaku Matsuda, your favorate actor.
>>253 I think "inconvenient" is one of those words that are tricky to translate to Japanese. It is generally translated as 不便 or 不都合, and in this case it should be 不便 I think. (不便 and 便利じゃない are not always interchangeable, and in this case, the latter would be totally unnatural and fairly incorrect) So your sentense should be "Tanoshii kedo fuben da to omou." However, personally I think it's a bit strange. Could be just me though. I think 面倒 would be a more appropriate translation, but I'm not sure.
In a summer season, some typhoons go through along this peninsula. This year, as the place around the reactors is quite contaminated with radioactive materials, it is feared that they will fly in typhoons over to other places northeast of Fukushima. Surely, we might have to spend days without an air conditioner, which must be hard. But, what is harder for us is the tragedy of having further contamination of the place we live by typhoons.
Though you write so in 278, the season when yellow sands flies from China continues in only a short term. On the other hand, as for the reactors, there will be some possibility of their having been exploded over more than a generation. This country was took over by Tepco.
>>257 >Hope his ban will be removed soon. Is Hiroyuki still an admin of 2ch? He is coming to an event in my city in July. Maybe I can bribe him to unban Igirisujin with some snacks.

is there somebody who are uni-students here? i studied abroad for 10 months with going to a language school, however, I just feel incapable of the English improvement of the others who did not go abroad in the class. clearly, this's because they don't speak out their oppinion in the class as much as we do. and i feel uncomfortable under this environment... what do you think of our education system regard to the English class??
>>287 Oh, thank you for letting me know the song's title.
>>292 I'm an uni-student. In almost English classes of my university, almost class professors is native speakers. And they always tell us to speak out our opinion in the class as possible as we can.
>>292 Here! I'm in college, studying English Lit. My classmates are all motivated to learn. A teacher is in charge of class with less than 20 students, so teachers can take care of each of us. This is probably because our school puts a lot of emphasis on English education. but I don't know well about English classes for non English major. By the way, Which country did you study in??
The other day, I watched a TV program where they visited Japanese gyudon restaurants in foreign countries. They visited some asian countries, and maybe Australia, and America. All restaurants besides the one in America were very normal. They showd us some little differences, like some country using hard rice, and some veggie toppings, and Taiwanese people using a chinese spoon to eat soupy gyudon, etc. All in all they were very normal.
But America? First off the people were indeed visibly obese, compared to the other countries. Then there was a woman eating gyudon and a fruit cake pie. That is just wrong. And a man eating gyudon with an absurd amount of beni shoga completely covering the surface of gyudon. I must say there is something wrong with America.

American food is terribly fattening. We have an embarassingly bad national diet. But at least our food tastes better than England's.
What do you guys think about native English teachers who can also speak Japanese and those who can't? Which do you think is better? I hear that some teacher recruitment companies like JET prefer having teachers who can't speak Japanese.
Woo! Finally back. Got busy with University work and haven't been around since the first few days of the Sendai quake. I see everyone's still here and sparky's computer is as bad as always!
>>310 Regardless, whether the person is an English teacher or is engaged in other jobs, I think they should at least try to learn the language of the country where are they are working. Imagine, a Japanese person comes to the US as a Japanese language teacher, and how would you feel if he/she doesn't try to learn English at all? Exactly the same goes for native English speakers. If they come to Japan, and if they just try to get away only with English, just because it is the "global language (?)", they will not give a good expression to the Japanese.
The Canadian band Monkey Majik is doing great, beside making good music, they speak fluent Japanese and they lent helping hands to the people hit with the quake and tsunami.
>>312 I agree. I live in Florida, and we have a lot of Puerto-Rican and Cuban immigrants here. A small number of them insist that we provide texts in Spanish and be able to speak Spanish as well! It's ridiculous, this is an English speaking country and they are by far the minority!
>>310 I'm Japanese, and I see your point. but as an English learner, I prefer a teacher who can't speak Japanese. Once I know his Japanese is very fluent , at least better than my English, I'd start to hesitate to speak English. And most of my friends who's learning English have the same feeling about this...
Sorry, this is the 21st century, already. My comment was weird.
By the way, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HCLEqUZjd0 "we are living living in the 90's we still fight fighting in the 90's... She sung about the future at that time.. The manga was futuristic at that time. Ironically, the lyrics made the manga seem too old, including the fans...
Look at the rocky W dolph lundgren-like face. wwww
>>319 I don't know what you are talking about. Did you even read the manga? The nuclear destruction took place in 199X. Futuristic and post-apocalyptic are two different things.
>>321 I see. Nuclear war between American side and the Soviet Union Side was more real thing and was waiting to happen in the near future. We belived we escaped the nuclear war right after the collapse of soviet union.
Futuristic may have been the wrong word because it may imply the technology and the improvement in the future. "about the future" may be more apporopriate.
Dark future was popular and cool motiff in the 80s subculture. Hokutonoken was futuristic in that sense and looks old today. I guess Mr.Sparky's favorite, Craftwerk might be included in that category. What Computer technolgy brought was more vivid and bustling than what they predicted it was ; static, unhuman, silent, cold-hearted, etc.
I guess classic image of computer world is like we will be ruled by the computer and we became more and more computer-like. But we are still ranting and shouting, laughint, crying through computer.
>>314 I think I'd prefer to learn a language from someone else who has learned the language as a second language (provided I can trust their fluency). As a native English speaker, there are so many rules of English that I never formally learned, I just picked them up through everyday use. I'd have a hard time explaining them logically to someone else, and I wouldn't have the personal experience to know what a Japanese English student is thinking and the points where they'll get messed up.
>>313 I learned several threads ago that the U.S. doesn't have one official language. If my memory serves me right, English is spoken most widely, but Spanish is also given some kind of 'official' status, at least in California. Sorry, if I'm totally wrong.
>>326 Ah, yeah, that's an interesting point. In the 80s everyone thought the computer would remove our emotions, but nowadays some people probably feel like the computer makes it easier to show emotion. I played a silly English game that gives a more '10s view of the impact of the computer on society: ttp://www.scoutshonour.com/donttakeitpersonallybabeitjustaintyourstory/ It seems like it was made to insult me personally since I hate that social networking shit.
>>328 That's true. Actually, at first students here usually learn the basics of English from Japanese English teachers. They teach English in Japanese and explain how grammar works logically or common grammar mistakes we're likely to make. It's a good way to teach English from scratch. But when the students get somewhat better at the language or when it comes to speaking, then they might have an unsatisfied feeling about non native speaker's classes :/
people say english food is bad, but why? england has awesome medieval culture and history, with kings and queens and knights and sirs and ladies and other noble people. with all that, their cuisine should have evolved to an awesome level, one would think.
The most awkward device ever made in Japan. I hope this device urge people around the world to think Japan is Henatai country. I bet Johnny's fan girls would by it to virtually kiss with their virtual Johnny's boys.
>>332 Why don't you check out on イギリス人-san's twitter account "@aLargeSquid" and look at the photos of foods he has uploaded? You can easily tell how lucky we are to live in Japan, lol!
so all those noble english gentlemen in history were eating crappy bad food behind the scnenes? even though they look so fantastic and manly with sideburns and beards. thats sad.
I think it's just the matter of what they have considered as important in life. They must have placed huge importance on the housing, and it is even said that the older the house the more valuable and expensive. Then comes clothing, where they invented mini-skirts, punk fashion, etc. The last is the food. I guess the British didn't even know good food existed in the world until quite recently, poor thing.
>>336 I disagree with the lack of spices thing. England has had colonies in all parts of the world, like Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and others, and trade routes in many other places. But for some reason, England just never could get used to the idea of good food.
Also, I think most Japanese know what a hard M is. Sparky must be a hard M.
>>331 I share your opinion. Learning from scratch from a non-native may be best. But fluent English (or whatever language) I would much rather learn from a native speaker.
I ate some foods in UK when I was a high school student. In my honest opinion, almost these foods were tasteless... sorry, all UK 2channelers. What I thought delicious is ONLY fish&chips... Except it, all English foods are so fuckin' tasteless. But, I wonder if all English foods is improving their quality of taste now. I hope all is so. I hope...
>>301 I know the native speaker usually try to encourage us to join the class activity, but my classmates are unlikely disscuss the answer but think it by themselves. the point is, we are tend to leave the answer in a visible way such as writing but I prefer the speaking because this is much faster!! >>304 my major is also British&American Study so that English ability should be higher than the others... I went to Auckland in New Zealand-- that's bad I won't be able to see the Rugby World Cup... I should've visited there this year XO Hou about you?
With regard to English, what I want to learn most is grammatical things. It is essential for me to be able to analyze sentence structures given on my own so that I can grasp the correct meanings. I am a native of Japanese but I don't know its grammatical rules at all. I suppose most native English speakers are also in the same boat. So I want to learn Englsih from not a native speaker but a person who has made an effort to master it.
>>342. Yeah. I agree. What I lack is that fluency according to my teacher
>>347 You went to NZ? Nice. But a bit rare hehe Did you study somewhere like a language school, or in college as an undergraduate? I haven't studied abroad before, although I am thinking about going to the states next year.
>>345>>346>>350 Actually, if you just changed to "most" it still wouldn't work. It needs to be either "almost all" or "most of." The first one implies a larger portion than the second. maybe 80-90% vs 60-70%.
"Still, Gaga isn't totally immune to the allure of Hollywood. After winning multiple Grammys, wrestling with Madonna on Saturday Night Live and appearing on countless magazine covers, the New York native relocated to L.A. to become part of Hollywood's "It" scene."
Is there "God" who experieced earthquakes respectively in Newzealand and in Japan? If southern kanto is included in the experience, chances will be high.
It's obvious that people who experieced both the Great Hanshin earthquake and the Great Eastern Japan earthquake exist. I don't name a specific person though.
Do you native speakers know word "Greatグレート" is exclusively used for something or someone magnificient in Japanese? like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO394QMbFXU. So "Great" Hanshin Earthquake sounds contradictive and impolite to me. Ofcourse, it's me and Japanese interpret "great" wrong.
"Intellectual Giant" Benjamin Fulford is a descendant of of an English elite family who oppsed the inedendence of America behind the power of Freemason and emigrated to Canada. I'm proud of having him as Japanese citizen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTcD43-f73A He speaks very decent English, doesnt he?
He proclaims himself to be Jewish. He says that his maternal side comes from jewish family. Technically he will be Jewish by jewish law. True or not, his confession is apperently for avoiding accusation by the Jews. His soul and attitudes are nothing near being jewish.
>>367 The "It Scene" is a stupid term that was probably used most in the 80s or 90s to describe a culture or group of like-minded people that are at the height of chicness/fashion/popularity/whatever. People used to say "It" to signify that something is really cool. For example, you could listen to "Take On Me" by A-Ha and exclaim "oh, this is IT" like it's just the coolest song and no other song matters. Anyway, it's very much slang, and it's pretty outdated slang at that.
>>373 Never imagined there's such a context in the expression. Thank you for your taking the time to explain it in detail. "It" is an easy word but how in the world can Japanese English learners tall what it means in this context. Chances are nill. Yes to your question. Thank you very much.
>>Omego Probably you're right coz' my friends also asked me,'Why didn't you go to America or British but NZ?'. obviously it is bias that New Zealander wouldn't speak proper English. I'm not the native so that I never find out its small difference kind of dialect, then it doesn't matter either where to go or which type of English you speak but what you want there. it may be out of the date to call English as two types, namely American and British English. the environment is a huge factor to boost your English skill and I'd like you to choose from that view for your success :D

My tweeting has just been over 10900. It's amazing... Since I started tweeting on twitter in Feburary, 2011, my career of twitter has been about 3 months. So quickly...Um I guess I can go over 11000 by the end of this month, if I continue tweeting at this rate. Anyway, today is the last day of this golden week! Oh...And perfectly sunny day. Ummm..., I have to do something...But, what should I do? Reading some novels? Listening to music? Wacthing some videos on You Tube? Taking a nap? Watching some so fuckIn' silly and nonsense TV programs? No! Hanging around! No planed cycling may be good. Ummm... go to neighboring shopping mol... Ah~, I don't know what to do~! Well, I'm gonna take a lunch! See you later!
>>378 Oh, I didn't say they don't speak English, it's a different person who said that
I also think it doesn't really matter where you study if you just want to learn English. As for me, I am interested in America, American culture(including pop culture) and history, the people, their life, their way of thinking and everything. In short I like America, and that's why I want to study there : )
>>387 Someone asked me what udon was like, once. I had to think about it, but the answer was, "It's like eating delicious worms." That seems like a strange thing to say, right? But it makes sense. Udon is fat and slimy and chewy, but tasty.
For those not in the know, Sparky is a Panamanian gay boy who feels lonely and unloved due to the lack of respect for gays in his society. He tries to draw attention to himself for creating a new world for gays. He said he used Windows ME because his computer was outdated and now claims he doesn't use it any more probably because he finally got a new computer. He puts his long hair up in a bun. He wears a big smile on his face and show his Panamanian teeth. He's considered the cutest gay America ever had.

I'm just using English for fun so I will not go abroad to learn it, but if I had to, I would choose Australia or New Zealand. Similar time zone, and feel less foreign than North America or Britain. They seem much more laid back and have cuddly animals too. I like Britain but the people look scary, and the English spoken in the streets is unintelligible.
What spec is Sparky's computer like? What kind of software has he installed? What computer programme is his favorite? Does he play games on computer? Does he draw on computer? Does he have a youtube account? Does he upload videos online?
Does he have a gay friend on the net? How many boyfriends does he have? Is he fat or slim? How much does he eat a day? Does he like his computer more than his food? Does he think of playing online games such as Final Fantasy 14?

>>429 There is one photo circulating around the net, but it was manipulated in an editing program. Word is the US government is debating on releasing photographs, but whether or not they even have any is debatable.
>>329 It is true that the US does not have an official language, but the primary language is English. The majority of Florida speaks English as well, so it's ridiculous to be told that we should speak Spanish by an immigrant who doesn't want to learn English.
>>413 Oh come on, much of the south is perfectly easy to understand! It's just the backwater portions that non native speakers may have trouble with due to the accent.
>>430>>434 Thanks for the info. So no photos of dead Bin Ladin then... I heard he was thrown to the sea for his funeral, which is considered good for Islams. American military must have tried as hard as they can to show respect to Islams worldwide.
I bet they have some photos of him taken before them throwing him in the sea.
>>431 hehe That's a good hiku (rather せんりゅうsenryu)to tell haiku beginners what haiku is like. Only problem is, as far as I remember, haiku has to includes a word that's shows season. Without the season word, it's not called haiku anymore but called 川柳(せんりゅう Don't ask how in the world can 川+ 柳 be read せんりゅう. Yes, it's very irregular way of reading 川 as せん)
>>447 Oh really? I never knew about that season thing. They must not teach that part of haikus in the US. All they tell us is that it has to be three lines with the right number of syllables.
In Japanese haiku, you could use six or eight syllables in the second line, and four or six syllables in the other two lines. I think "字余り(じあまり)" and "字足らず(じたらず)" are fine. You must try to avoid it, though.
>>447 河川(かせん) is another example. I agree it's unusual.
>>449 Including a season word is a must and that could be both difficult and enjoyable part for people who enjoy haiku. Japan has distict four seasons and there are lots of words that you can associate with a particular season. Choosing a season word which belongs to a particular season and including it in a hikue could be a challenge and fun at the same time and that helped haiku become popular literature style in Japan, I think. (Although young people don't make haiku at all though. It's a hobby for the elderly.) So for people who live in a place where there's only one season, the fun for making haiku could be less than quarter.
Haiku is not only about 5-7-5 style. It's short but your imaginiation spread infinately just by reading a short haiku. (again, young people has lost such imagination, I guess.)
Adopting the strict rule for haiku can be hazard for developing haiku's popularity worldwide. So you could enjoy senryu for starter, I guess.
As an English native speaker who tries to learn some Japanese from time to time, it's somewhat confusing that kanji can be read in more than one way sometimes. In my head, when I see 「川」, I always think 「かわ」. It's a habit I'll have to break when I learn more kanji.
>>454 Japanese elementary kids think the same as you, but at some point they go over threshold. But I have to admit even some of Japanese adults are confused about kanji so no wonder you feel that way.
>>455 An article in newspaper I read explained it shows honor to Islams but seems like that's not right. Thanks for the video.
>>453 Haikus are very well-known in North America. I was taught about them in school, as were probably most students my age. We're taught about ENGLISH haikus, though, which are a little awkward since syllables are more arbitrary in English than Japanese. Haiku is well-known but not taken very seriously. I'd say 95% of the time people use English haiku to make a joke or say something silly.
Noriaki seems to have lost the meaning of being musician without Oshio Manabu of "Liv". They were big rivals each other like Dragon and Tiger. http://blog.livedoor.jp/noriakimusic/
>>476 Actually, that one is 6-8-6. In English, a word is not a syllable. One word may have multiple syllables. For instance, the word "ordinarily" has four all on its own!
Don't ignore Sparky. He's a lonely gay boy. We have to pay more attention to what he has to say. He has a lot to say about his computer. He loves talking about his ME.
>>484 That is not true. Ordinary people are so cute when they make mistakes or pronounce in a different way. I also like it when they are observant of each other's emotions/actions "he is so excited" "you became angry/strict suddenly". This group harmony/inner feeling attracts me.
What about Sparky? Does he attract you, doesn't he? He blushes when he meets a cute boy and probably he can't look him in the face. That's cute, isn't it?
>>495 No. I was taught what a haiku was in 2nd grade, and we were told that it was 5-7-5 syllables. That was also when we learned what syllables were, so haikus were a good way to practice.
Although, syllables in English are quite hard to learn. In Japanese, haikus use "morae" which are a lot easier, because each full-size letter is one mora. But, a phrase like 何ですか has 5 morae and only 3 syllables- the morae are なんですか but the syllables are nan-des-ka, so they are different. です however, can be 1 or 2 syllables depending on how it's pronounced.
>>497 I understand what you mean in your post. Sounds like English syllables are more flexible and somtimes confusing even to English speakers. And wow, I learned a new word, mora and it's plural form, morae.
>>499 I like watching angry people, if they are not taller than me. I used to annoy him and say "you look so cute when you are angry". Then he would totally go mad. Then I would ask him to hug me. He would go silent instantly.
>>489 oh, i found i have same feeling. when i hear foreigners speaking japanese, i feel they are so cute. that's why i really like スパーキーsan whose japanese is very lovely and cute, sometimes bit funny. adorable...yeah, i agree with you.
And you know, Hitler is shorter than you too. lol I am as tall as Hitler. I'm proud of it. Can you take huggins from behind and front by me and Adolph?
By the way, have you ever taken a train in morning rush hour in Tokyo?
I never said I would hug you if you made spelling mistakes. If you are NEET and lonely, if you cook, clean and care for me, maybe I would hug you after we get used to each other. I would want you to be a man about it and take full responsibility for your actions.
>>504 I got the impression that Japanese people got irritated by foreigners speaking Japanese. Like scratching nails on a blackboard kind of irritation.
If you are NEET and lonely, if you cook, clean and care for me, maybe I would hug you after we get used to each other. I would want you to be a man about it and take full responsibility for your actions.
>>509 I knew a Chinese boy, who was a Japanese language learner and able to speak good Japanese. He was a smart person and could tell some jokes. It was fun to talk with him. I wonder if he had the same feeling as you did. Maybe I could have helped him more :(
are you a dickhead or living in hokkaido ? already i was t-shirt but still it's not enough. you should go outside and move so you can feel the hot. you neet lack of physical activity and have a poor circulation.
>>527 No, I think Igirisujin is too busy selling commemorative royal mug cups to foreign travellers in London, so he can go to Russia to find another date.
(con) As you all know, Japan is a famous country that is not going to be involved into any war because we have abidance to the Article 9th, in which all we need is protection as Jieitai, self defense force is the only the military in Japan.
(con) But I think it's a great idea to have conscription in Japan. Why? Because there are many freeters and NEETs(young people who are able to work but neither do work nor study or anything) according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, about 4.17million ppl are not working but staying home and financially depend upon their parents.
Also you can see the young guys are becoming very feminine and fragile these days, so if there is a conscription in Japan, after enlistment, those fragile young guys will be well disciplined in a group life, and learn to make a life habit, such as early to bed and early to rise, and will be physically trained and become manly.
(con) Also they will get some benefit after discharge, such as free entrance of universities and etc.
Also I think necessary evil gives you more tension. If there are some kind of fear, such as South Korea is on the verge of crisis of attack from North Korea, they always have to live with some tension.
Your ideas are so Stone Age and sexist. You cannot force unmotivated people to do anything. You have to move their spirit. You have to understand and listen to what makes them tick. Some people have low blood pressure or are simply physically weak. Make them contribute to society and reward them. Make them feel they are part of Japan. Maybe your society needs to open up categories of employment more suitable to men who like to stay at home. How about turn them into real fathers who can look after and guide children? Or creative, technical or artistic pursuits? Maybe they want to work on a career that would give them fulfillment other than what is already out there. Btw you can send all your cute, androgynous guys to Europe, they are adorable. I would look after them!
>>540 i'm not good at english, but on the sight english is easier to understand. i didn't think it cute, i was just puzzled after reading japanese. it seems however, to be interesting to me.i'm not pc geek, neither. but i would like to learn it. thank you!
Sooner or later we are all destined to die Poor or rich, we are all human, no matter what After death, we don't know where to go Rumor says it's heaven or hell Good or evil are we when we are alive Assume we go to heaven You should be good while we live
In the heaven we don't know what is waiting for us Sooner or later we will see
Amusement parks can't be expected at least
Greenery scene is there to be seen Arriving there would be unrealistic now Yet the day will come
>>546 during bubble era people didn't think about society, though there were many problems. now it's in the recession, people are looking for other ways to live. you might be as well. my idea is about education. others have different idea. if you listen to anybody else's idea, we could make good society together. thank you for your reading inspite of my poor english.
>>547 We really don't want to decrease Japan's population even further. If you sent all the grass-easter feminine Japanese men to Europe, the proportion of females in cities would become huge. Then it would be even harder to reproduce.
>>551 I forget who it was who said that the people who are best at English are usually the ones who apologise for their bad English. You really don't have to unless it's REALLY bad.
Opps there were some other nations that have conscription, such as Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Swiss, Russia, Israel, Turk, Taiwan, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Poland, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thai. Even for women conscription in Israel and Malaysia.
>>547 Thanks for you reply. I understand . Actually my real thought was close to yours but you know, this was my assignment, so I had to write pros and cons for the conscription. Thanks for your opinion!
>>541 I don't think there's much merit in the idea of using military service as a tool to improve people's character, and I especially don't think that should ever be a decision for a government to make over it's citizens.
Even if it was good for NEETs (which I don't think it would be), it would be a waste of time and money for everyone else. People would take years off their lives that they could otherwise spend working and creating real value. The government would have to spend tons of money to support and train all those people to perform military tasks that would be ultimately worthless unless Japan goes to war. Even if the end result is 2 million NEETs magically transformed into productive members of society, the economic impact would be worse than the gain.
The only real reason for mandatory military service would be to have a large military - unless you can suggest a dire need for a larger military there is no reason to even consider the minor secondary impacts. Your argument sounds like you want to build a new house to fix a leaky faucet.
excuse me, 'geek' has only bad meaning? i was using the word as kind of super. 電気花火san, as i said before, you're shining to my eyes(>_<) digitally. i'm a type of person who can't tell soft from hard ..maybe you can't believe that!
>>554 Does it mean " rare meat eaters are masculine" I thought homo sapiens were omnivores. Unless you have a diet/sex hierarchy in your mind, which relates being feminine to a herbivorous diet, and masculine to a carnivorous one,.... Or do they exclusively eat grass? Am I missing something...
>>565 so you are happy with my statement, aren't you? possibly you want to be shiny. lol am i correct? regardless of what others say, i believe in you, 電気花火san. good nature is accepted in any society, don't you think? and good character too. yes, that's my motto.
i am a strong believer in love as well. strong love makes people move.
a good many of people would make the world a better place.
great, don't you think? and many more will join us. you will be pleased to know there are many people who are with us!
If Japan invaded some other countries now, some people would make songs about peace and love like The Beatles, but using Hatsune Miku.
If the creator of the song managed to keep his or her name secret during and after the war, that virtual diva might be able to get some Nobel Peace Prize... Weird world...
>>541 I don't think joining the military is a good way to educate NEETs. What they need most is friends they hit it off with, not enemies they battle with. What they should hone is skills to socialize with people, not the ones to kill people. Even though building up your physical strength may give you some confidence in you and therefore it makes you easier to socialize with people, that is what you can do elsewhere.
>>560 Some people want to make our military stronger. It should have some pros and cons. The pros and cons of "conscription" can include those pros and cons too, perhaps.
>>578 hummm....I thought military is not just the place to train guys to be the soldiers but also train guys healthy, let them learn discipline and group life, how to corporate with people.
>>578 hummm....I thought military is not just the place to train guys to be the soldiers but also train guys health, let them learn discipline and group life, how to corporate with people. NEETs' lazy life is almost impossible to reform by now - some of them are living in his room for several years and never
goes out...that is the terrible situation in Japan, therefore, they need very drastic change from outward So this country's government should use power and use leverage to get them out from their room and train.
every NEET are not lazy and doesnt have discipline and group life. you have a something biased thought. some NEETs have mental illness such as depression and i think sending such people to a militaly makes the situation worse.
Speaking of NEET, whenever I come across this word, I recall a phrase. 「働いたら負けかなと思っている」 With my English ability, it's hard for me to interpret what it means to English. If literally translated, it might go as follows " If I work, it means I become a loser" I was shocked when I heard a NEET speak this phrase out for the first time. It was something like a cultural shock. Since then, I've had stereotypical images of them although I know that the reason why he became a NEET varies from person to person.
>>585 Almost every NEET is a depressed person. In a highly structured society they must feel immense pressure and they become more and m ore insular. That may lead to a breakdown. Your mental health is in danger guys.
spain was attacked M5.3 quake and death tolls were supposedly 5. cause i am a japanese i think the building outside japan is too fragile to quake. after 3.11 above M5.3 quakes were often happend in jpn but the damages were quite lower than the spain's.
>>588 That phrase is so known to people that it has become a representative phrase for NEET to describe that they are such a slob, after it came out from the mouth of a NEET on a variety TV show. Even though it gave a thundershock to viewers in a way, some are skeptical that the show was staged.
>>594 Ah that's not what I meant though. Spell it in a way without writing ところ or どころ more than once, because there is only one kanji 所 in 所々. Like how 遅々 can be written ちゝ.
What do you think about suicide of youngers? Please see below article. http://www.cinematoday.jp/page/N0032239 Her name is Miyu Uehara. She is famous as a poor idle from a large family. She had some experiences of her childhood in her homeisland, Tanegashima, and told these on TV programs. These were seemed like lies but interesting. So, I'm sorry at the news and think about suicide of youngers.
In this world, there are some people wanted to keep themselves alive but died of some illness. So, I honestly want some young suiciders to think twice. Indeed, daily life is hard to live. But, we must not escape from there. Because life is training to go to heaven so to speak.
The people on Aozora Bunko use it in this way. I didn't know that these /\ and /″\ are くの字点. ・度々(たび/\) ← たびたび ・なか/\むづかしい ← なかなか難(むずか)しい ・徒然草(つれ/″\ぐさ) ← つれづれぐさ
1)She was born in one of very rare the most poor classes- these days it's hard to find those family in Japan since most of us are nuclear family and have one or two children in average, or even being single. She therefore raised very wild but at the same time she wanted to be paid attention more from her parents. In her comment before, she said 'If I died, some ppl may think about me7 So I think the motive is to get attention from her loved one and public.
2)She was not very actively working these days so she had some fear for the future as an poor idol to survive in TV.
http://twitpic.com/4wf2mu This pic made me smile somehow. Recovery efforts in every way is happening.
I wonder if jook from Las Vegas is banned. Haven't seen him around recently. I wonder when super hacker igirisu-jin 'll hack and begins to access to 2 chan again.
So where is my Japanese suitor, he told me he would cook, clean and care for me for free...Then he disappeared. After all he turned out to be complete air.
No, I'm not 510. What I mean is you should treat me with much respect even if I'm neet. I'd clean our house and do house choirs while you're out at work but still you have to treat me as if I were a king.
Have you noticed the following? --- The system for obtaining a driving license in England is slightly different to that of Japan. The "L" in L-Plate stands for "Learner," and everybody who is driving on a provisional license (i.e. who has not passed their driving test) are obliged by law to display the plates on the car. Unlike Japan, once a driver has passed the test and is in possession of a full license, it is no longer necessary to display the plates.
Prince William, of course, passed his driving test many years ago and does not need to display the "L-Plates," but he did so as a joke to indicate that he is still a "Learner" with regards to marriage. It is the ability of England's royal family to make small jokes like this that keep them popular in the eyes of British people, and I hope they will continue seeing the bright side of life well into the future.
>>612 You mean your idea of being treated with respect is equal to being treated like a king? Of course I would treat someone who does all that with respect. A man who takes care of the household and his friends/family has my utmost respect because they are so rare. I would be proud to have a friend/partner like that. Seriously, NEET guys should consider getting into an alliance with single men/women in the workforce. Two is better than one. Their lives would be transformed for sure.
Talk to Sparky and share a wonderful moment with him. Just making fun of Sparky would please him. What displeases Sparky is ignore him. He's a lonely gay boy. Be friends with Sparky.
>>590 i don't think so. it's important whether the earthquake is a local type or not. and the magnitude calculation method is different between japanese computation and global standard computation. a global standard is a moment magnitude (Mw) but japan is using only local the Meteorological Agency magnitude (Mj). therefore it can't compare these information briefly.
>>608 I have received a tweet message from jook. He is out of town so cannot post on 2ch. He will be back on Sunday. This information was provided to you by Kame Girl 2ch messenger service,,,,.
Sparky deserves more even if he's a gay. Pay more attention to what he has to say. He knows a lot about computers. If you want to know something about Windows ME, ask him. He'll be pleased to answer any of your questions.
If 電気花火-san is talented and cute he could send in an application to Johnny Kitegawa. He may have a great potential and a bright future. I would be his fan then, supporting him.
Hey hey hey heyyy minasan konnichiwa! You know what happened? I have tweeted a message to Kat-tun's composer Joey Carbone from the States. And he replied!!! He is an awesome musician, he composed Never Again, Freeze and Signal for Kat-Tun. I am always in awe of their composers. The music is so refreshingly different. I am glad Akanishi Jin added him to his list that is how I could reach him! I will also show up in Jin's messages too... CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
>>651 Of course it depends on whatis more attractive to you. In my case it is music, fine art and performing arts. I love it when people devote themselves to something they love, and their lifeforce shows through what they do and they moves masses emotionally. I find parallel thinking in my own field.
It can be anything, including love for tentacled beings or flea.
>>652 Of course I did, may be it is not cuter than you are. Keep making spelling mistakes and stay cute forever Spa-ki-4-san.
>>623 there are no security guard and no cash registers. it is far from convinience to say. but the staff is working seemingly not thinking about the desaster. the faces of them are same to theri usual life. but background is piles of rubble. these contrast makes me sad.
Aww Joey Carbone is such a sweet person, he tweeted me again!!! I never thought I would be this happy, even happier than if Kame sent me a message! He is the creator behind many Johnny's compositions. I love the soundscape of his music. I sent my thanks to Johnny-san. I hope he gets it.
>>657 You mean the earthquake survivors. I am very sorry to hear that. Believe me I could not eat properly for a week when it happened. Knowing my friends were suffering and in constant fear. Crying is good for you but try not to get depressed. Please be strong and help people around you. I am sure you can do something. Only that way you can overcome sadness.
>>653 Ok so you are. What are you going to do about it? Do you have a boyfriends/partner to add meaning to your life?
>>663 You are welcome. Next time Iam gonna charge you. Or you can send me wagashi! wait... you are not in Japan.
>>665 No comparison mate. I am talking to a musician who is a first degree contact of idol Kamenashi and media boss Johnny Kitagawa. A massive difference methinks.
Hilarious exchange ensues between Kat-Tun composer Joey and KG2ch on twitter . I never imagined him to be sooo friendly. He made my day.I think my message to Johnny Kitagawa will definitely get through!
>>667 You don't have to see it directly. You are surrounded by thousands of grieving people. It will impact your psychology. So be strong, hang in there. If you are on twitter you can write to me. I hope you feel better soon.
Talk to Sparky and encourage him. He's depressed probably because Louisiana doesn't even try to accept gay boys as their community members. Sparky is a gay and that can't be helped. Encourage him to live strong. The first thing you guys are asked to do is talk to him. DON'T IGNORE SPARKY!!
The immediate concern in Japan is what's going on about the nuclear reactors's fuel rods. No.1 reactor's rods are announced officially melting down which is one of the worst news. The problem is that it's said that no.3 reacter is in more serious condition and there's no official report about it. Rumor has it that it's such a serious condition that the authority in charge can't even report about No3's condition.
Our media reports far less often about nuclear plant's situation than when the disaster happend but the problem is, that never means the situation of the nuclear plants are going in the better direction and settling down. It's been worsening bit by bit actually without effective measure being taken.
If things keep going bad if gradual, Tokyo will be in panic and Toyoites and people around Tokyo will start to flee from the Metropolitan area. That's a terrible thing to happen. Fukushima, where the nuke plant is located is going through nightmare. Our government's announcements about how much radio active substances have been leaked and accumulated can't be swallowed as they are. You have to think the current situation is worse than governments estimation.
In reality, Fukushima isn't an appropriate place to live anymore although Govenrment say things in a sugar-coated way to prevent panic there.
>>669 no no . dont take it seriously like that. i just stated my impression of the picture. i am not depressed and many people except the tohoku region are not sicked mentally after the disater. i also saw many of davastating pictures about the disaster but i am ok.
>>671 I understand that everyone is really annoyed at Tepco and at the government for not releasing information to the public about the reactor. But at the same time, I can understand it. They are taking enough preventative measures to keep civilians safe, but they are keeping them from panicking. Imagine what would have happened if Tepco had said back in March that the reactor had melted down. Tens of thousands more people would have evacuated Japan from places as far as even Okinawa from panic. To them, the word "meltdown" means Japan is going to become an uninhabitable desert. Not to mention the effect on the Japanese market.
On another note, I have a question for Japanese people. When living with a family in Japan, would it be best to use the teichougo (like -masu form) with them all the time or would it sound more natural to use ippankei (general form) sometimes?
>>677 Hmm, so you are planing to stay in Japan, I take it? My opinion: Don't worry about it that much. Generally, host families are the kind of people who are willing to accept exchange students and such. They wouldn't care about small things. Rather, they would try to let you talk (or use body language if you are not that good at Japanese). Having said that, if you are really worried about that, desu/masu form is appropriate when you meet your hosts at the first time. After that (or several days), you'll be friends with their child/children, and then it'd be quite natural to talk frankly. and maybe it'd still be good to use desu/masu when talking with the mother/father. Like I said, though, you don't have to worry too much. They wouldn't be offended if you made a mistake in Japanese.
Today I met one senior woman who was complaining about her daughter. Her daughter's husband is working for Toden,Tepco (Tokyo Electric Company), where most employees are in trouble these days. They are extremely busy and cannot expect for the salary or even bonus. Their salary become less than before and most likely, bonus wouldn't be paid, which is normal compared to the ordinary Japanese companies because of the depression in Japan. I've advised her that until today, their salary and working condition was too good therefore, they probably feel the little bit back away from the previous supper good working conditio, which made them feel bad. That's all.
>>686 Not that it matters for anything, I'm just curious, but why call yourself oshiri? Do you use a mousepad like this one? http://i.imgur.com/ynTQM.jpg
Anyway, welcome. I can't tell how many people talk here, since they are mostly anonymous, but I'm sure there's room for you.
>>693 I have a vague feeling we are small group of people here. Some of us pretend to be new.
Minnasan konnichiwa... This time I got re-tweeted today by another celebrity! This time by Bikke from Tokyo No 1 Soul Set. They have collaborated with many artists, including KyonKyon. I love their music!
Amazing how responsive the Japanese music people are!
>>675 Those are typical aren't day, they are young, rude and immature. The shops are full of eye candy indeed. But what's the use, if you don't have a real Johnny's boy in your life. There are handsome Japanese boys swarming around, the girls should have made themselves presentable to those instead.
>>696 Do you happen to play music when you do your work at home?
Is it sort of working overtime at home?
>>693 Oh, it looks like that mousepad has hand reat on the near side to your body. I use that type of mouspad, I mean, with hand rest not anime character's ilustration and it turned out to be be very user friendly. Althuogh it's not for summer. Because sweat will sink into the hand rest and I bet it will feel uncomfortable.
>696 I sometimes do. Depending of depth of concentration required. Let us say, it is catch-up work due to lost time while trying to get into a new research field.
Please someone write in simple English really. Is currently studying English in junior high school year level. This sentence is written in the translation software.
Please watch the video below. With a 1000 views on that video, i will get a new hat unlocked in a video game called "Team Fortress 2." Thank you for your help.
>>703 Hello. You can call me jook. I am 23. I live in Las Vegas. I studied Japanese for three years in college. Please write your own English. Just try your best.
>>713 That is the right form of the word, but your sentence is a little awkward. It would be better if you said "for breakfast" instead of "as breakfast." If you don't want me correcting you, please tell me. I like to help, and I would definitely want to know if I mess up my Japanese. It took me a while to figure out why you said "39." I didn't get it until I tried thinking in Japanese. Just so you know, if you were speaking to a native English person, it would be better if you said 千九. That is closer to how we actually pronounce it.
>>717 I learned something new. I guess I don't hang around on Japanese websites enough, since I've never seen 39 for 'thank you' before. That looks like fun though. I can try one. If you're going to have 029, I will eat 15. Strawberry season is just starting, after all. ichi-go. :)
I've just remembered another version of such puns using numbers. For example, 一本でも 人参 一羽でも にわとり じゅっこでも いちご You call it Ninjin, even though there is one of it.(Ninjin is a Japanese word for carrot)
shiii**! I've just discovered that I had been paying Yahoo Japan for nothing. I rarely go to Yahoo Auction these days but monthly 395 yen fora premium membership fees have been deducted from my account! So I deleted my account there but overall, I missed a lot of money. I really hate Yahoo. They just automatically charge us and make it so complicated to get out from the membership. Grrrr!! I hate Yahoo!!! Give me back my money!!
A ventriloquist was on stage one day doing his repertoire of Irish jokes, when an Irishman in the front row of the audience stood up and shouted, “Will you stop telling Irish jokes. We are not all stupid, and I resent the implication that we are.” The ventriloquist was immediately remorseful and was apologizing profusely when the Irishman interrupted him: “I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to that little fellow on your lap!
It's the same as your phone company. Even if you don't give or receive a single phone call, you still have to pay the basic charge and can't complain about it.
You and other guys sympathetic to you are all lame.
An Irishman's been drinking at a pub all night. When he stands up to leave, he falls flat on his face. He tries to stand one more time, but to no avail. Again, he falls flat on his face. He decides to crawl outside and get some fresh air in the hope that it will sober him up. Once outside, he stands up and, sure enough, he falls flat on his face. The Irishman decides to crawl the four blocks to his home. When he arrives at the door, he stands up and falls flat on his face. He crawls through the door into his bedroom. When he reaches his bed, he tries one more time to stand up. This time, he manages to pull himself upright and he quickly falls right into bed. He is sound asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. He awakens the next morning to his wife standing over him, shouting, "So, you've been out drinking again!" "Why do you say that?" he asks innocently. "The pub called. You left your wheelchair there again.
I think Akanishi Jin is in London. I hope he shops at the Japan Centre. Wouldn't be awesome to bump into him in there...buying his instant ramen. "Ahh Akanishi-san please give my regards to Johnny-san and make him send all his talents to London." wwwww
TALK ABOUT SPARKY MOAR!! HE'S CUTE, LONELY, AND GAY!! WE SHOULD ENCOURAGE HIM TO TALK ABOUT WINDOWS ME!! HE'D BE HAPPY TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE ON WME WITH YOU!!!!
>>738 How do you know I'm lurking? Are you a psychic? Anyway, thanks for your warm welcome and compliment to my English. I Know have lots of room for improvement regarding my English but remarks like that always motivates me. Thank you, sweet sugar-coated cherry pie.
By the way, you can wave me or ask me for my autograph when you see me acting on the street. I wish Kame didn't exist. Then I'd be your Mr. Right. Life isn't fair.
I think Sparky feels lonely because KazKata disappeared from here. No wonder he's depressed. What if someone you like disappear suddenly without any particular reason? Guess Sparky has been asking himself why and couldn't find any answer. Let's hope Sparky and KazKata will meet again.
The number of travellers visiting Japan hit a record low in April ― 62.5% decrease compared with the same month last year, according to the official report. It sounds radioactive leaking is worrysome for travellers indeed even though the local people are not really concerned about it.
>>742 You are not Akanishi Jin. Your style is different. But thanks for trying to make me happy. anyway, whoever you are, Would you make dinner for me and massage my shoulders? I'd love that. A manly man to do those important things.
>>758 If you give me free accommodation, I'd be willing to travel to Japan to get radiated. I would volunteer to clear up the debris and rebuild Japan.
>>768 Do you know Kat-tun's lyrics has impressed some people because there is a hidden meaning in the lyrcs of thier song? The technique used there was "Vertical reading," which is very common in posts in 2chan. It's so common and widely known for 2channelers, Kat-tun failed to impress 2channelers but seems like people who aren't familiar with 2chan and "vertical reading" are very impressed with the technique and hidden message of the song. Read the writing below and see the hidden message there. ------------------------- I just wanted to tell you something. Last time I intracted with you. Oh, my god. Very satisfying indeed. Enormous joy filled me. You may not believe that. Or you feel something is wrong with me. U never know...
>>771 That's something I made to explain what's vertical reading is like, not from their lyrics I'm talking about. Do you get what vertical reading is? If you don't know what vertical reading is, you don't get it if I copy and paste the lyrics.
>>773 I don't know about English but it's dificult to recognize if there's a hidden message in the form of vertical reading in Japanese. It's a part of 2cha culture. I haven't heard about vertical reading before 2chan.
Anyway, the part of "Run For You" lyrics which has impressed some people are:
頑ななPRIDE (stubburn pride) 張り切れそうなVOICE (almost bursting voice) れん続したTENSIONに 心痛めないで (Don't get distressed by a series of tension) 日の昇らない朝はない 夢見ること止めない (There's no morning without sunrise. I don't stop dreaming.) 本当のCHALLENGEが今この場所で ここで始まる (Right now, right hear a real challenge will start.
Vertical reading:「頑張れ日本」(Hang in there, Japan! )
Don't believe my translation. Just read it for your reference. Especially, "challenge" in the last line is a tricky word to translate.
>>774 2ch people are so intelligent. I also believe the average intelligence of Japanese people are higher than the rest of the world. Some 2ch practices baffle me. Thanks for the lyrics. Ist here a link for the song? I would appreciate it!
By the way, I am now being followed by Kat-ttun's composer on twitter!!!! I am thrilled! I am over the moon! I better behave myself.
It seems like this is a song used for a automobile CM released on May 15th. All I could found was 15 sec. version. The vertical reading part isn't incuded there.
Kat-tun fans oversseas hasn't catched up with Kat-tun's move?
In the billboard at the beginning, all the member's are cut out meaning have all gone somewhere... Where are they? Yes, they are in the car going somewhere to have a fun. "If you purshase this car, you'll have fun driving and can go whereever you wanna go to have fun." That's the sales pitch of the CM. The car seems to have good milage. 22.5km/littler
It's just a few seconds but you can see at the top of the billboard, "New single coming soon." Fans here seems to be guessing if the song could be their brand new single, or it's just a setting of the CM.
If you spread the rumor among fan bases overseas, you can be a hero, rather heroine.
I have a question about the word, "Fishy" in the case bellow.
“I just know that we’ll be feeling very fishy.”
The above is what the director of a music video said when asked what her new music video will be like? What does this "feeling very fishy" mean? Can it mean you'll be suspicious of something as in "smell fishy?" The "Feeling fishy" is almost the same as smelling fishy? Or is it literaly mean "fish-like" like, when we watch the video we'll feel as if we were in water like fish?
If there's one thing to add to what >>774 says, "vertical reading" is meaningful because what's written in the vertical order is quite different from what you normally read. Rather it's quite opposite. So some say that kat-tun lyrics are not interesting.
Anyway, there are many more complicated "reading" techniques in 2ch such as "diagonal reading". With that technique, even some of those who are used to "vertical reading" get tricked/trolled until others point that out.
HE'S BUSY PLAYING CHRONO TRIGGER!! ASK HIM WHERE HE IS NOW AND HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO COMPLETE IT!!! DON'T FORGET HE'S A GAY BOY. HE NEEDS BOYS TO ATTEND TO!
Don't worry, Sparky. Even if you are a gay, you are human. That means you have the all and every right to live as a gay. If you are worried about people in Louisiana watching you, then move to Australia, where a big gay event is held every year. Why don't you join them? Parade!! And party!!!
DON'T IGNORE SPARKY!! HE'S A GAY FOR SURE!! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BOTHER TO CALL SPARKY GAY, THEN YOU SHOULD CALL HIM SPARGAY. THAT'LL SETTLE THE MATTER!
I, as in many other member of this room,am attached to you... namely Sparky. not to mention that whether I`m gay or not . I`m just Oshiriman, who is not fishy.
Sparky is 20. There's nothing between KAZUKICHI AND SPARKY that stops them from loving each other no matter the age gap, no that KazuKata disappeared. Sparky feels lonely. He needs someone that takes care of him.
>>776->>779 Thanks, I read about it but it is the first time i am seeing the CM. Thanks for keeping me up to date . So sweet of you!
>>787 I cannot read or speak Japanese, so I cannot tell if their lyrics have this Vertical Reading aspect. If you come across one of Kat-Tun I would be very happy to look at it.
For women the nose is an analysis tool for measuring the health and eligibility of a man in partner selection. Perfumes smell good but they override this sense thus confusing the selection of her partners.
>>817 Didn't you know? MS is a well-known TV programme in Japan. When Perfume (a techno pop girl group) asked what scent/smell other artists like, Nakamaru answered he likes Kame's vanilla perfume. Then Kame said he uses vanilla-scented perfume. All I remember is Kame said it's for women.
Does Sparky have a chance to get in touch with this Kame boy? Sparky would cheat on Kazukichi with Kamenashi. Yay for Sparky!! He can choose whichever he likes!
Wait I'm confused, is 片岡数吉 "Kataoka Kazukichi" or "Kataoka Kazuyoshi"? Kichi is the on'yomi of 吉 and yoshi is the kun'yomi, so I'd expect it to be yoshi.

A police car was stopped at a traffic light one day, when it was suddenly rear-ended by a woman in a family sedan. The policeman got out of his car and asked the woman, “Tell me, madam, how do you stop your car when I am not here?”
One day when a man was going out to visit his friends in the pub, his wife asked, “What would you do if you came home and found me in bed with another man?” The man replied, “I would break his white stick and shoot his guide dog.”
A small girl, noticing the size of her pregnant mother’s stomach for the first time, asked what was happening. The mother replied that her father had given her a baby. The girl immediately ran to her father and said, “Daddy, you know that baby you gave mummy? She’s eaten it!”
I prefer the Garigari-kun type of ice with a wood bar inside. It's very handy to eat. I don't like it when my fingers are sticky after eating the Papiko type of ice. This may sound a little bit weird or funny in a way, but when I eat Potato chips I use chopsticks, because I hate it when my fingers are greasy.
oh.. you should eat potato chips with your fingers, and also lick your fingers.(^ω^)peropero. it tastes salty, doesnt it ? thats the way of eating potato chips.
>>849 True, in fact that's how I used to eat Potato chips. Way long time ago.
>>850 I just didn't know what Cheetos was, so I did a quick Google search for it and figured out what it was. Along the way, Google showed me this pic below. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2047/2260892323_1df280bfbb.jpg The dude on the pic is a Cheetos lover for sure. It looks like he needs a shovel to eat all those pieces of Cheetos rather than a set of chopsticks.
>>852 Wow, that guy seriously loves cheetos. Now that you've learned about the regular kind, you should see hot cheetos. They're even better. Spicy, cheesy, delicious.
>>856 "i don`t think my hip is bypass. " This didn't make any sense. Want to try again?
>>863 I don't think they sell Cheetos in my town. Or I can find it, at least. Which is why I didn't know anything about Cheetos. I love Kara Mucho. It's a spicy snack food, too. Once I open the bag of Kara Mucho, grab some, and take it to my mouth, I just can't stop until there is almost nothing left in the bag. I use chopsticks for it, too. Of course.
To tell the truth, I had doubts that you were a gay given what you said and how you said it. But now you are implying that you are not, I'm guessing that you are a woman. Am I on the right track?
Why don't you start flirting online with Sparky, oshiri? I'm sure you can get in contact with Sparky with ease. Exchange your e-mail address then get on msn, be friends with him and enjoy yourself.
>>882 Alright! The Internet has put all of us together, as it seems, but the truth is, it is breaking the bond that we all seem to cling to, making every one of us feel less connected to each other. Which is where I feel disappointed with this great, yet lovable technology.
>>883 It is just that the way in which we are connected to each other has shifted. We're more connected to human beings in the world but less connected to people in close physical proximity. We're more connected to people's thoughts and emotions themselves and less connected to their identities. And I think we're less connected with how people are in reality and more connected with our imaginations. The last bit sounds kind of bad, but I don't think it is.
If you can help me, I'd appreciate it. If you are bothered or not interested, just ignore this post. Thanks.
"Today was lazy so I just grew my hair really long last night," Lady Gaga joked. My real hair is brown -dark brown. Right now it's blonde with Cruella [de Ville] strips. I could just whip my weave off in front of you if you'd like. "
The above is an exerpt of an artcle. I don't understand why "Today was lazy so I just grew my hair really long last night," can be a joke. Would you explain it? Even if you don't think it's funny at all, at least you,as a native English spaker, understand what she tried to mean as a joke. If you need the context, you can check the video page beklow.
>>889 Thank you for your response. I think "lazy" and it's impossible to grow hair that long in one day are kind of keys to understand this joke. Another key would be she wears weave(=wig?) as she says in the video.
>>890 Well, it wasn't actually funny. A weave is a kind of wig. The difference is, with a normal wig, you are usually covering all of your normal hair, so only the wig shows. A weave is sometimes like that, but also sometimes put on to modify your hairstyle, so it's there along with your own hair.
At least, that's what I got from skimming the first paragraph on wikipedia. It's not like I have any experience in these things, you know.
I wonder why she brings up the word "lazy" here... I don't want to be considered persistant, so I'll stop asking anymore. The explanation for a weave helped. Thanks for your answers.
It's really frustrating that no matter how much I try to leave a comment the window gets kind of freezed along the way with a message saying like "Please wait for the page to switch" and nothing happens.
>>884 Your comment makes me feel better. Your calling me "thatgay" makes me feel a little bit less comfortable, though.
>>870 That's great. I hope you had a great time in Japan.
>>887 I can't agree with you more. I often see people bashing each other online, and it's amazing how precisely that shows the ugly side of human being. The Internet has brought as much advantage into our society as the kind of disadvantage we're talking about here. But whether good or bad, there is no way stopping any of this. It's like the train has already left the station, so to speak. The only way that's left is to accustom yourself to it. I guess that's life, and that's what it means to grow up... lol Maybe I'll talk more about this later when I've put my thoughts in order.
now that it is summer, more native anglophones with names are showing up. i don't deny that i am one, but at least i've been here regularly for most of a year. i just hope the number of japanese doesn't drop. >>894 ja, eigo wo shabere.
>>896 I'm still living in denial that now Chernobyl has become rivaled by Fukushima. I don't know why but it sounds unrealistic. Maybe it's because I already got used to this type of news enough not to be shocked by another worse update anymore, thanks to the authority's efforts to "insinuate" the truth into our minds bit by bit, or I'm just a stupid stubborn believer that this is the safest country in the world.
Sparky can't stop talking when it comes to Windows ME. So we should ask him about it whenever we see him here. Please don't leave Sparky alone. He is a lonely gay boy. He needs someone to talk to, especially boys.
Japanese should leave Japan. civilian of earth. age 50.
I'm literally a zainichi-Korean. I fear rightward tilt. If you hate foreigner so much, you should leave Japan with King of Japan(I heard that you call him Tenno) and Japanese flag and anthem. to the unknown island. and kill each other.
Here is our land. if you hate us. you should leave here.
Our DPJ got political power. and they are doing what we want. if Japan accepts responsibility of it's history further more and to contribute to East Asia, you must vote for DPJ.
Maybe this is different from your sickness but I heard that some people in and around Tokyo have the similar symptom because of the potential risks caused by nuclear substances from the power plant. Nobody can predict how the situation in Fusushima power nuclear power plant will turn out to be, so some people are exposed to chronic stresses and are depressed.
How do you think of buying agricultural and fishery and other manufactured products from Eastern Japan? It is apparent that those products are contaminated by radiated soils and sea water. The is proved by the horrible figure −radio active contamination have been shown by the figure which has been measured by some scientific institutes etc. but actually government doesn't want to make it open since Japanese industry will completely collapse if it is proved. But you know our health is most important than anything else...
Such as Seikyo, co-op food store which is supposed to be the most considerate to our health says "Gambare Nioppon"(we support North Eastern area) and sells those foods which was produced in North Eastern area, Ibaragi, Miyagi, Saitama, Chiba, sometimes Fukushima...do you think it's ok to buy those products from Fukushima? I wonder how safe those products would be...
>>913-914 It takes a LOT of radiation to make you actually sick. I think if people were getting sick, it's probably because of the stress. But I think now that there is the radiation scare, if someone gets sick from a virus or the flu, they will blame it on the radiation because they are scared of it. The radiation levels in areas like Tokyo are tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of times lower than anything that may cause sickness or cancer.
>>915 Even if you don't get sick immediately, one of the terrible things about radio active substances is to increase your risk of canser in the future.
Figures realeased by government regarding the amount of radio active substances can't be believed 100% so that's one of the reason people are stressed out.
Today on TV, they report that the sales of a divce to measure radio active substances is skyrocketing. Now that we can't believe our government, all I can do is to protect our own selves by buying such device. We shoudldn't be afraid of our own shadows but have to take precautions to protect ourselves.
"Our DPJ" still doesn't help victims of earthquake. aid money was disappeared to somewhere. They don't build temporally houses. for your information. gov built it after half a month at hanshin earthqueke. They are finding S.Korean building constructor while there are buch of building constructors in Japan.
I've had the worst and second worst ever in a row as a prime minister. The former was Hatopoppo and the latter is Irakan. Oops ! Irakan must be the worst because he hold on to the status of prime minister and will never resign until the next general election. "Know thyself" He does not have what it takes to be the prime minister of Japan.
When I'm on train, I sometimes see some who wear earphone to listen to music or portable radio. I guess they do that for others who wanna sleep or read some book such as novel or magazine or review textbooks for some examinations. However, the sounds from their iPod or portable radio are out to even surrounding passengers!
I wonder why does earphone still exsit?
I think headphones are better than so fuckin' earphone. I also see some who wear headphones to listen to music from their iPod on train. But unlike earphone, the sounds from their iPod aren't out to surrounding passengers. So, as a conclusion of this boring suggestion, all I wanna say is vanish all earphone!
>>924 Your way of communication is always one way. You just pick up a theme out of nowhere and push your point which no body is interested, I'm afraid.
current radioactive leak problem is really dangerous circumstances. a chromosome is injured seriously by the high level radiation. as u know, children cell division is so faster than adult one thus children's broken cell that it's shot by the leak radiation increase in children's body by own cell division !! maybe, there're lots of cancer children around Kanto region after 5 years or more certainly. i guess, a government have to make children taken to shelter as fast as possible especially around Fukushima-pref. even if a government won't do it, japan will have the lowest government rather than North Korea !! 'Cause a government murder own country's citizen.
According to news source, TEPCO has lost important information of radioactive monitoring datas. When I read this news, I can't believe TEPCO's announcement. They have intended to hide these informations intentionally. The lost informations were written to paper. But these monitoring datas remained checker machine of memories. Why they removed these remains of information from the machine? Write on a paper, UNTRUTH. Why worker had written to papers those many sampling datas? Nonsense!!
Please someone check the radioactive level in central Tokyo immediately and someone report these detail value informations to a global website. We don't believe both TEPCO and government reports anymore. They might hide the truth. Allegedly, personal geiger counter has already indicated very high level in Tokyo now and then but I don't know detail value.
>>931 the most high level of radioactive value is 0.618mSv/h at Mizumoto park of Katsushika ward in Tokyo !! this sampling value is gotten from upper 1m on the ground and it's obtained at 25-May. However, the government report value is 0.062mSv/h at Tokyo...
Taro Yamada, who is very active in protesting againt the government's safety standard of radiation level and is against Japan's nuclear power plant policy said in his twitter that he was dismissed from a drama he had been supposed to make appearance.
This is said to be due to pressures to the TV station from Tepco (Tokyo Electric Power Comopany). Tepco is a big and important sponser for TV stations. He quit his management agency not to make the agency get in trouble because of his activity. I think he's a very brave man who never gives in to pressures. He lives based on his own belief and acts besed solely on what he thinks is right. He's a man of Justice.
I'm a man in my forties and the first time I saw him on TV was when he was a high school student and danced very comically in his swimsuit in a popular TV program MCed by Beat Takeshi, who is originally a comedian and later won awards of Overseas film festival as a film director. I thought he was just a funny boy and I never knew he's so brave and da man of justice back then.
This is what he is now. Very serious tone. He talks his piece of his mind about the safety standard of radioactive substances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urowwwJrOs4
It means "sink or swim." It's used in this kind of context. It's ichi ka bachi ka but I'll try it anyway. I have no choice so I'll do it ichi ka bachi ka.
i think, this level is high alert state. 0.618mSv/h is over 5 times more then a standard value !! over 5 times is very danger. it needs to take refuge from there especially children.
>>947 What is the difference between bachi and hachi (the latter which I use when counting)?
>>941 Interesting. I was watching"Boss" and Erika Toda just blurted out that expression and the translation was "do or die" and the footnote said "sink or swim but will try". Now i makes sense.
>>938 I am very sorry to hear that. That is way too high.
If all engineers in the world could put their brains together, could they do something about this problem? Put a dome around the whole Fukushima complex, like a thick egg shell then fill it up with rad hard material?
>>947 The origin of the expression is not so simple. I thought I try explaining it but it was too complicated to do so, so I just tell the meaning of the expression without mentioning the origin.
>>948 I'm not 947 but let me tell you that it's read as "hachi" most of the time but when 8 is used in certain combinations it can be read as "b"achi and "p"achi. I don't think there's a specific rule when you read it as bachi and pachi. Reading like them is very rare so all you have to do is just remember when you encounter those very rare cases.
>>950 Hmmm. Thank you for the explanation. Not to worry, I hope I find out the origin and be able to understand the uses of b/pachi myself one day. That would be the best way to learn Japanese.
It's called beauty is a skin deep but still a beautiful woman is adored by many men. I'm one of them but beauty is not everything.
One beautiful actress was on TV the other day in SMAP's program. In one segment of the show, she ate meal fixed by SMAP members. The way she ate became talk of the town on the net. The way she eat is very dirty and far away from her outside appearnce. After some research I found out that the way she ate has been notorious on the net for the way she eat for the past few years.
She has a habit of keeping foods in his cheek and she even speaks while food is there. She uses chopsticks terribly, too.
Now, I'm gonna write about the movie I watched a short time ago, The adjustment bureau. I think it was interesting. Especially , Mat Damon kissed a female stranger(I've forgotten the actress's name) who he met in male restroom. Although he met her for the first time. Wow, what made him so hurry? lol
And I wonder why black is only one in the adjustment bureau. You know and might say it dosen't matter at all. But, I can't stop wondering... Anyway, it was an intersting movie. If the adjustment bureau controls my life, trun my so fuckin' life into everlasting happy life! lol Rather, our imcompetent prime minister's life should be changed by them lol. How pitiful he is. He might as well resign right now. Or his life will be worse. Back to The adjustment bureau, it reminds me of The Truman show, starring Jim Carrey in some way. The similar point is both hero try to escape from their controled destiny and actually do it in the end. Ah! I told the consequence of this movie...
I apologize all you who don't still and wanna watch this movie for telling it. m(_ _)m
I've got information from Tatsuo Kamon, a famous comic singer and one of my following people on twitter. It's live broadcast on Ustream. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/izumiyano-tv The location is a Kaneyama Asunal in Nagoya. According to him, he will appear on this live broadcast from 5pm. So, it won't be long!
I'll tweet something about it as reporting on twitter. If you're interested in, please check it out!
It's obvious 2chan comes at the top of the list. Meeting, job, school? Forget them. Don't forget which side your bread is buttered on. All you have to do is just become a super Neet.
>>959 You mean YOUR list of priorities? hmmm. But meeting with myself is the most important one! I sit down at a Pret with a cup of tea, take out my black notebook, and go through a list that I have made myself. I make notes, take decisions and steer my plans on the spot. It usually lasts from 30-45 mins. It is the most efficient and productive meeting I ever have. Just me, myself and I. wwwww
Sparky, if you read this thread, you should let us know you are alive! We are really worried if you are dead because you are a gay... I just searched and found out that gay suicide rate is high. Don't rush, Sparky. There's someone out there you can turn to. If you can't talk in person, just post what you think, here in this thread, ok? We are supporting you, Spargay.
"How was your game, dear?" asked Jack's wife Tracy. "Well, I was hitting pretty well, but my eyesight's gotten so bad I couldn't see where the ball went," he answered. "But you're 75 years old, Jack!" admonished his wife, "Why don't you take my brother Scott along?" "But he's 85 and doesn't play golf anymore," protested Jack. "But he's got perfect eyesight. He would watch the ball for you," Tracy pointed out. The next day Jack teed off with Scott looking on. Jack swung and the ball disappeared down the middle of the fairway. "Do you see it?" asked Jack. "Yup," Scott answered. "Well, where is it?" yelled Jack, peering off into the distance. "I can’t remember."
A young man who was also an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in 9 holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him. To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly. He didn't hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently and didn't waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot. There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball and it was directly between his ball and the green. After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, "You know, when I was your age I'd hit the ball right over that tree." With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally lay. The old man offered one more comment, "Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only 3 feet tall."
>>966 I believe Sparky has been lurking all along, though. I don't know why, but he often use his stealth technique. Wait... Aren't you Sparky himself?
Now that he haven't been here for days, I believe Sparky already left you guys here. You bored him so much he decided to leave. Why didn't you entertain him by asking him about Windows ME and about his gay life?
>>979 I don't understand why the message appears when you post.
>>985 Yeah, I agree with you but for some reason that kind of show is very popular here. As far as I know Iron Chef, the clone program of one Japanese show was popular there in US, too. Although in case of Iron Chef, it's more like watching people cook than watching people eat.
>>986 Yes. Watching people cook is more interesting. You actually learn, and cooking is a skill that not everyone has. I don't watch cooking shows either, but I understand the appeal, at least.
I cook once in a blue moon and my repartory is very limited. And almost all I cook don't meet the standard for serving for others. Maybe dogs and cat would be satified with what I cook though.
I made French toast this morining but some parts were burnt, meaning those can't be served for others. But I enjoyed eating them with honey on top of them.
How do you say I love you in Japanese? Somebody said 'Aishiteru' or 'Aishitemasu'. Yes, technically it is translated like that. But as a Japanese girl myself, I rarely hear those words, even in drama. hummm... I love you can be technically translated as "aishiteru" but language is always translated based on their culture and background. Therefore, when you consider Japanese character, as very shy personality, most of us hesitate to say something too direct. So "Daisuki" would be the maximum expression.
I've even heard that the famous author, Natsume Souseki said "Today's moon looks bright" = I love you Don't you think this kind of expression more sophisticated than the direct ones?
>>990 Yeah, 'repertoire.' I was lazy enough to look up in my dictionary. I was sure my spelling is wrong but I knew you guys understand what I mean. Thank you for the tip.
>Cooking for yourself is almost always healthier than buying food, too.
Yeah, but the problem is that I'm going to eat cup noodle, to be more precise, cup うどん for lunch today. I love honey too but sometimes it's bother to use it for me because when spilled it's really sticky and hard to clean.
>>994 When I buy honey, it comes in a bottle with a cap that flips open, and a little hole to squeeze it out. Doesn't spill much. It is really good at making a sticky mess though.
