Hey!!! you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis, Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers, Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters, Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, and cunning linguists. And let's hope the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!
>>4 We're still drinking liquorice tea, right? In thread 132, we were drinking green tea. We have been drinking liquorice tea for nine months now, but there is only so much liquorice tea in the world. We might run into a crisis and run out!
>I think it's because the British have a problem getting new people who are >talented enough to be celebrities at the moment. >So they focus on the older ones until new blood can course through the system.
That happens to the Japanese quite often too. Maybe it's worse. Over and over again, you end up seeing the same old faces desparately holding on to their past success. I guess they're like a safety-net that a somewhat older audience grew up watching and still feel comfortable with.
>>7 Thank you! I shall try and return with other fine teas. Perhaps even try and save the endangered liquorice tea (though I don't like liquorice, so probably won't).
>>8 We have an unhealthy number of reality shows and soap operas here, so this very low tier of 'talent' is making people 'celebrities' here, but are in no shape to take on world recognition. Many of our older, classical actors are able to keep hold of their past success, such as Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen, but the younger generation of 'old actors' often do have a problem trying to outlive their popularity.
>>3 I'm getting bored with the same tea, too. By the way, how did you know that the same drink's been served since 133? Do you save old threads and you checked since when to make sure? If so, I'm wondering why you save them? Some posts here are very informative and this thread is a good place to intract with people from different countries but most posts are just like graffiti and I don't see any point in saving them.
I have been doing nothing since the day before yeasterday. it is not because it is raining now but because it is raining in my heart. I feel anxiety for my future vaguely. What if I can not get any jobs which I hope?
I like English and have studied the language hard for some years. I narrowly passed a pre-1 grade practical English test and tried TOEIC. However, I can't speak English fluently even now. On top of that, my academic background is not good. So, it is difficult for such a person like me to find a job to exert a halfway English ability.
>>23 I think you know lots of English grammar and expression well, so if you stay in foreign countries spoken in English just for 1 month, I'm convinced that you'll start to know how to speak English fuluently. In my case, 1 month after I arrived at the Philippines, I could improve my spoken English dramatically and communicate with foreigners without fear.
>>28 That's what I wanan say. the problem is that Koreans take advantage of Anti-Japan to achieve self-confidence and take it for granted that all bad treatment against Japan is allowed by the Korean society and the world. I really hate such a stupid behavior and sick and tired of them,
>>18 if you cannot get motivated you have to check whether you are hungry, tired or are simply ill. If you are not, checkwhether your room is stuffy, untidy or noisy. Check also for outside distractions: interruptions, unresolved emotional issues, heartbreak, financial or health worries or bereavement. If you have none of these, go for a swift walk, and think in different places, what an ideal thesis would be like. Think about the topics you would choose. Then write them down. And sleep over it. After a while ideas will come up to your mind and you will construct a skeleton of your thesis. Think of it as a construction and keep building on it every day. Little by little, it will start to form itself. Good luck and let us kno whowyou get on!
>>10 Katie Price's popularity is not very high (not popular in a good way, anyway), and she's seen as desperately trying to grab attention with reality TV shows featuring other washed-out television celebrities, a television show about life in her and her then-husband's (Peter Andre) family, interviews about their divorce, and a number of biographies.
In fact, she left the latest edition of one of these jungle reality shows because each time someone was to do a challenge (such as eating bugs, lay in a tub of cockroaches, or whatever else they do), the general public voted that she had to do the challenge. So she quit.
But to answer your question, a lot of girls do look up to her, for some reason, but she's quickly becoming less popular with guys. She still tries to play on her looks as if she were still a model (if page 3 of the Sun counts), but she just doesn't have them. Made herself worse with cosmetic surgery.
If I spent time in a jungle with her, I would die from sleep deprivation, because the constant nightmares would keep me awake. So no, no I wouldn't.
>>12 I don't actually save them, just clicked through the link on the opening post to the previous thread, which then has a link back to the previous thread... and so on... just thought that the tea has been looking familiar.
>>13 Just had a look at IMDB, and though most of his roles up until now have been a student age, his latest movie has him playing a photojournalist called Dan Eldon, who was killed in Mogadishu at the age of 22.
There is so insistent Korean on the following video. Acorrding to him, Japanese view of history is totally wrong and the war between Japan and Korea happend in 1940 to 1950.
Next day, he suddenly changed the period he mentioned about the war into 1910-1945. Then I said to him that he is so inconsistence with what he said before and Japan never had the war against Korea, because Korea which went almost bankrupt was united by Japan peacefully in 1910 and they got Japanese nationality. In fact Korea in those day didn't have any troops, warships and combat planes, so what he mentioned is wrong.
I also said to him that without Chinese character's skill Koreans who thrown away the character will never know the true history about Korea. But he suddenly brought up how great Hangul is and was trolling like an unlogical thinker. and then he just continues to say "Do you know all Korean history?". something like that. I might also start to be a troller.
can anyone defeat him in the right way? I'm exhausted =(
>>41 I think a follish korean doesn't deserve debating with. North koreans also make up kinds of silly story.. Like Kim il sung defeated Japan and expelled japan. Correct story is that Japan retreated from the peninsula defeated by the USA and russian troops took advantage of this, invading the north of the peninsula. North korean partisans are sycophants of former soviet union and Kim il sung was a marionette of the Soviet. And to make the story more twisted, anti-Japan figher kim il sung was not that kim-il sung, the father of kim jong il. A Russian broadcaster revealed this story. Stalin picked up an unknown korean guy and named him legendary kim illson. I wonder where real kim-il sung disappeared.
It's like comedy. A Hangul inventor banned using hangul and despiesed it, calling it was letters for women and children and the uneducated.
The translation of hagul is Great letter in korean. But its real meaning is 訓民正音( teaching right pronunciations to commoners).
In fact, great lauguage and great letter at that time of korea was Chinese. Nobles at that time spoke Chinese in their circle and wrote documents only in Chinese. Poetry is also the same case. One minister proposed the banning of hungul to Sejong the Great, the inventor of hungul, , saying that people who can't learn chinese is not worth living. Commoners were left to uneducated and poverty life.
I guess you should try to enlighten people who has the chance instead of hard-core koreans.
Korea took pride on herself, calling her "little china". They mocked japan, calling it out of china culture and rule. What makes them so proud for being little?
>>38 I see. Katie Price seems to be somewhat Paris Hilton of Britain. Somewhat. Because Jordan seems to be from working class, different from Paris and she had plastic surgery unlike Paris. I wonder who would be Jordan of Japan. Hirosue Rryoko? lol Joke. anzai hiroko? no. kahara tomomi? no. I agree she became less and less beautiful. her changing of looks is a mystery for me. She has almost everthing. I guess relatively flat chest is her only inferiority complex. I'm lacking too much things and I don't know where to begin to correct myself. for almost perfect looking person like her, only one defect haunts her. Patsy Kensit also had breast implant, right?
I wonder who would be your favorite of the page three girls. Michelle Marsh? the new Samantha Fox! lol Lucy Pinder?
And Keeley Hazell! I think she would make all japanese models into oblivion. I'm sorry to bring up a name you will be embarrased with. I can imagin now you are blushing. Keeley Hazell is really classic. To air my dirty laungry in public, I saw her home porn video with a obscure football player. It was boring footage though. Don't british feel jelous and angry with a black or middle-eastern guy having sex with white chick? And why does she love to play with a minority instead of a white handsome guy like イギリス人?
The US media reported that a Toyota Prius became the center of the issue once again. They told that a Prius kept going and going and didn't stop for a long distance after the driver once stepped on the accelerator pedal in the middle of a highway. When I first watched this news on TV, I thought that another Japan bashing had started once again. This time again. The string of these events concerning Toyota, including a scandalous document about the cutting of budgets regarding the recalls, only seems to me some kind of conspiracy made up by the US government. It is happening just after the Toyota company has become the No.1 car retailer in the entire auto industry. The focus of this conspiracy is this: Jealousy. I can't stand these events occurring and just watch it.
When I think of the former two decades, I can't ignore the existence of the US conspiracy against Japan behind the fall of this nation. For example, the education level of japan has dramatically fallen down after introducing the so-called infamous "Yutori-kyoiku." I've heard that the introduction of this institution has already been discussed in the late 80's Japan-US Structural Impediments Initiative. It's not only limited to education. All genres of declines can be found and explained by the US intervention, or rather, as frequently reffered to generally, overseas pressure (GAIATSU.) I used to be a fervent believer of America, but when I realized these facts, I couldn't help but feel disappointed with the nation. I think it's time for Japanese people to completely be awaken from the illusion conjured up by this harmful, manipulative nation.
Do not be so self-centred. The Americans aren't clever enough to come up with conspiracies, and Japan is not important enough compared to others to deserve being the target of one.
No. As for autoindusty, Toyota will be the first rival to GM and Ford. I'm not asserting America played a trick though.
In japan no accelration problem like one which occured a couple of days ago was reported. So it feels strange. It that accident was real, maybe american autoparts factory did something improperly. Ofcourse Toyota can't say right this theory right now.
>>57 You underestimate them. of course I mean American. United States often disregard Japan on many things these days. As they are doing, Japanese should stop depending on United States. Japan would become more stupid, corrupt, rotten country by depending on them.
If we let Koreans run loose, they will be having a bad influence on the ehical development of the human rece. History must not be fabricated. It is natural that we get angry with the fakers. I suggest that we japanese should avail ourselves of the anti-Japan to improve our Englsih.
>>71 Yeah, you've made a point. The reason why we should go against anti-Japan activity by Koreans is not because we hate Koreans without any reason like racism, just because Koreans take advantage of anti-Japan to get profit from Japan.
In fact Japan has already gave Korean gorverment $ 8million as compensation of WW2 in 1965 when the relationship treaty between Japan and Korea was made in 1965 and abvove all, lots of prime ministers including Junichiro Koizumi who Koreans hate have apologized to Korea about WW2.
The west has never ever apologized to Africa, Asia and South America about their long rule, but Japan did it to Asia. So we don't need give appology and compensation to them anymore. Our responsibility is over. If they still insist, we should call them beggars.
>>73 Yes. I don't hate them.either. Recantly they made a new low which they will be able to demand the compensation of ther parent generation. I can't believe it. They're mad.
It's an important topic, but it improper for this thread.
ttp://academy6.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/english/1251331352/ is a Japanese thread. Japanese may need the tread that English beginners, like me, can exercise English about anti anti-Japan. So to speak, the training school of the soldiers against anit-Japan.
kind,stingy...you seems to like abstract words. The trouble is that Korean hate Japanse from fiction and that they should know it. Their attitude like "The end justifies the means." is very very danger.
I don't think so. I'm a Jpanese, and I'm not so interested in Korea. But if they're trollers, it's not better way to ignore their things. It's just discrimination against minorities.
I think this thread should be separated into 2 threads : the one is for anti-Japan-related issues in English, the other is the topics except anti-Japan-related issues in English, for users of this thread might hesitate to post a comment here about ordinary topics. And there is a thread about going against anti-Japan on this bulltein board, but most of comments have been written in Japanese.
not only for Japanese and Korean but a person coming from other countries. →not only for Japanese and Koreans but people from other countries. those person who come from other countries , →those people
>>104 http://academy6.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/english/1251331352/l50 海外の反日宣伝活動に英語で対応するスレ Part 38 A threat like your aim already exists. Why not vist this threat? I like talks about anything including korean issue and Sometimes bring up korean issue myself or follow others who proposed the issue. But I agree it would be useful to divert the issue into several threads, depending on the object.
hi guys, I am one of those people from other countries. I think it's fair to raise any topic or issue here as long as people focus on rational discussions than hideous personal attacks.
But why not shift to something non-political, like chatting about the Oscar award result? ^^
Where is アメリカ人? Where is スコットランド人? アメリカ人 ended up in entering USC? (I used "end up in" for a positive result. is this usage o.k?) I saw a name of "jook" on the previous threat. I don't remember who he was. But he was a frequent visitor more than a year ago. Is he the guy who live in the surburb of new yourk state?
I don't see anything wrong with talking about anti-Japan things here, even though I'm not that interested. Just let them discuss whatever they want to, and if you take issue with them, then bring it on, or steer the topic into another, more interesting one preferably.
>>114 I tend to agree with you, that I applaud when someone makes a very deep & good movie with extremely low budget, because it proves that it's not the money but the talent that counts. This used to be called American Dream, I guess.
>>117 Yeah, I also wonder what has become of them, but at the same time, I understand why they left this thread, because when they were here, all we talked about was boobs!
I also wonder how *schoolgirl* is doing. I'm sure she is enjoying her college life, but it would be nice if she could come visit this thread once in a while!
Money is not everything. Remember "Water World". Cameron used money effectively. After all, blockbuster like Avater can not be made without huge amount of money. But huge amount of money doesnt guarantee huge success. After all, Cameron himself invented various devices and script was written by himself. The hurt locker and Avatar have their own merit.
Sorry, at least Water World was in the black. I presumed it was in the red. Its sales in America was quite bad. Japanese made up for its failure. Commercially it was not good. And qualitatively it was no good.
>>122 Indeginous people like inuit were protected while norwegian and icelander fishermen were criticised. Norwegian and Icelander weren't indeginous people in Scandinavia, aren't they?
>>117 He told us he had passed USC but he had trouble accessing to 2ch so He then tried to come here with his ipod touch or comething but eventually, the access from the device was denied.
I don't know how Scotland-jin is doing. Maybe he got bored with 2ch.
I might be criticized, but I created a new thread, because anti-Japan-related issues are deeply related with WW2 for some reason and some foreigners must be allergy to that sad War. In fact someone mentioned that here before. so I want to respect their mind, so I made the thread. In that thread in order to take action easily, I listed some basic vocaburaries which appear frequently in anti-Japan-related issues.
>>121 >Cameron himself invented various devices and script was written by himself.
Do you know that some Chinese are filing complaints to Cameron citing that Cameron stole their ideas in Avatar? Cameron has admitted that he got inspiration from the mountainous scenery of China and used it in the movie, which is perfectly alright because there is no copy right involved.
>>127 Scotland-jin may be busy trying to achieve indepent of Scotland from England. Scotts almost succeeed in doing it a few years ago, but then the global financial crash hit Scotland pretty bad, so now they must hold on to England against their will.
The plot devices and script of Cameron are very old. In fact, Avatar is exactly the same Story as an old tale called 'Pocahontas'. Also, many Western countries believe that his tale of a White man becoming better and stronger than the people he has moved into as soon as he is with them has unfortunate implications.
Also, the romance was very poorly done. And the morals of the story were very blunt. James Cameron has no subtlety.
>>136 seems to be a part of the lyrics of Kimi wa Poison(You are a/the poison), one of this thread's anthem, so to speak sung by Noriaki, the other is "COOL TAk" not to mention.
"tsutawanne" is a very casual form of "Tsutawaranai" meaning, isn't conveyed to people or hard to be understood by people, or doesn't reach people's hearts. .
The fist time when I jacked off at the age of 13, I was in the seventh heaven. But now I don't feel good during jacking off as I was 13. What should I do?
I think my penis size is long compare other. My girlfriend often say my penis is the longgest she had ever seen. She say that sex with me is excite especially.
The New Zealander terrorist of the Sea Shepard, Peter Bethune is under arrest for trespass. I hope they those criminals all get arrested and arse-fucked in prison.
These Toyota problems are getting ridiculous by the day. As someone who is left behind those advanced technologies, I'm not sure how dangerous Toyota's cars really are and how far they are to blame. For now, I'll skip that "shame on you, Toyota" woman, who sold her devil car as if she didn't care if the next owner could be dead because of the sudden acceleration problem that she had suffered from, and that guy in the spotlight, yeah, a possible money monkey whose Prius accelerated regardless of his own will on the very next day Toyota had succeeded in an open experiment to refute the claims of the systematic failure in its cars, I'm going to focus on ABC news.
ABC, the Absolutely Biased Companies, admitted that the demonstration they had aired to show electric problems in Toyota's vehicles was a fake. It comes as no surprise to me. Unlike Charles Gibson's step down message "Objectivity is important. It is what we strive for each day", their coverage is splashed with fabrication and exaggeration when it comes to anything from Japan. Are you sure you don't just want to say "objectivity"? They have reported that many Japanese corporate executives have committed suicide when their business failed because of Samurai spirit, and that questions of Akio Toyoda's first press conference were "will he bow?" and "how low will it be?" because the deeper you bow, the more respect you show, which in Bushido Samurai means "offering your head", that is such a strong expression that there is a consensus built among Japanese that he doesn't need to resign, which is sufficed for his apology.
Even though the origin of bowing might be so, it’s just a perfunctory act. People were more concerned about what his explanation of the problems would be at the conference as the U.S citizens would be. And I doubt that they don't have any malicious idea when they try to connect those things with Samurai, as if Japanese were as much as "something different from us", if not dinosaurs, or barbarians living in the past.
Every company acts in its best interest. So, ABC, if you want to be nasty to Japan, I think, fair enough, as far as what you're saying is true. It is a shame that you're virtually free from bankruptcy however irresponsible you are on your job, unlike Toyota.
As a matter of fact, Mr. Toyoda didn't bow even an inch at the hearing to follow the American way of showing courage, i.e. keep your chin up, or maybe keep your chinchin up.
By the way,let me give you a small lecture on chinchin. Excuse me, ladies.
Chin-po(珍棒or珍宝) means dick in Japanese. As you know, every Japanese name has its meaning. Chin means intriguing and po means stick. Do you think your dick is intriguing enough for women around? If so, you will be able to survive your next generation.
Former F1 driver Sato(Family name) Takuma speaks English very well. He went to UK after graduating from high school to go to school that nurtures racing drivers. Nobody can't become F1 driver from the beginning. His Track records (literally) led him to the top level F1 racing after gathering experiences in lower categories of racing.
I think he raced a few seasons in F1 and now no racing club in F1 contracted with him and he's now incvolved in another racing category.
Maybe American people have no clues about F1 because it's not popular with them. They're interested in Nascaror Indy 500 miles and things like that more. F1 is popular among motor racing fans around the world except USA.
>>254 I think there exsist two different types of "fool"in this world. We call someone so when they lack common knowledge such as academic skills. On the other hand, we call someone so when they lack common sense, which, who is, I think, a real "fool." It is good thing you punish yanki when they misbehave.
>>266 You mean you are the capable person? You faltter youself a lot, which must be the reason why she treated you coldly. You are a natural fool, I'm sure.
As of the Toyota recall problem, especially with the unexpected acceleration that occurred a few days ago, I feel anger and disappointment. Several US media reported that the old man, aged 61 had lied that he kept stepping on the brake pedal. Actually, he just stepped on the acceleration pedal on and off intermittently. The guy even considered suing Toyota company. I don't think it's occurred because of the lies he said about Toyota . Somebody behind the accident talked him into doing so.
One woman in America sued a manufacturer of a microwave oven when she put a cat in the microwave to dry her cat and killed it. She claimed that the manufacturer should have warn users not to put a cat for drying.
>>289 I'm not sure it's time that the gay marriage was also permitted in Japan, though I'm actually gay and agree with the basic concept of the gay marriage, because compared to other countries Japanese gay and lesbian are still less visible in the society at all. In fact as you know, most of the people in Japan have never seen gay and lesbian in their real life except TV programs and dramas and have strongly believed that gay doesn't exsit anywere in schools, working places and their neighborhood. So whenever I confess my sexual orientation to the people, they're usually astonished and embarrased at me as if they were seeing aliens.
Anyway what I want to say is before making the gay marriage permitted by the society, fisrt of all the exsistence of gay and lesbian should be known in the right way to the people through mass media, Because it'll take long time for the people to understand what gay is and how important the gay merriage as for gay is. but as long as mass media intentionally continues to choose very sissy gay and treat them as stupid clowns, I'm sure the situation will be never changed and they'll just continue to fubricate the truth of gay and lesbian like they are fubricting the truth of Minshutou, Democratic Party of Japan on a daily basis. so I almost gave up the merriage in my life, but predict that the paradigm shift will happen in Japan in 100 years.
>>290 Your background is very unique. You should start critic carrer. Your background will draw a lot of attentions.
I think people who openly admit gay might be seen as strange and kept out of straght people here, but there would be almost no threat to be attacked for being gay. In america and european countries, that could happen. In america, there is a chaos. Japanese don't think abortion is good. But it's forgiven and let go. In america, abortion doctors have to risk their life.
I heard "gay is bad" culture was brought by america after WW2. True Christianity strictly ban homos. There is no such ideology in original japanese religions.
>>296 His popularity is very low here in Japan. His dramas are failure after failure, average ratings below 10%. Strong push from journey's agency keeps him on TV. A drama on air might be the last straw.
By the way, is my use of "on air" right? Can it be used even if it's not aired right now?
>>297 do they count the ratings from overseas? obviously not. Are they aware that he is a walking brand overseas? obviously not. Ome has to think global. Advertising now sells to the whole world. Kame is very popular in Europe.
I am not a native speaker but this is what I think:
From what you are saying I understand that the audience cannot tolerate his TV presence, and a drama that has Kame in is unacceptable. I understand what you are meaning to say so the use of "on air" should be all right. Maybe you could say "his drama being aired" but then, it is not only his drama.
What I don't understand is the fact that the audience judge actors by the drama ratings. A drama has a lot of components to make it a success. It is a team work. To single out an actor and blame everything on him, is not logical at all.
Ithink there is a media person who is trying to defame him for personal reasons. I cannot understand whythere is a mass of Anti-KAme people out there. Unless they hate him because he is unrealistically good looking? Or because of his relationship with the most popular idol? Or because he is an unusual man who is not macho at all?
He is very hard working and polite, what is the problem?
>>290 Last year, a Japanese penfriend and her cousin visited the UK, and when we were discussing her time in London, she had mentioned that they had walked through Soho and they were very shocked (and amused) at seeing same-gender couples even just holding hands and kissing. There are many such areas in the UK, especially in major cities.
>>296-298 I'm afraid that very, very few people would know who Kame is here (just had to look it up on Wikipedia, myself...). I think only hardcore female anime fanatics and creepy yaoi fangirls would know who he is. At least that's how I imagine it is in the UK.
>>297 I think that "a TV drama" would be more commonly used, but if you really want to use the concept of "on air", then maybe "an aired drama".
>>299 what has anime or Yaoi got to do with Kame? If you bother to look on the net, people who listen to JPOP do not always read Yaoi, that is such a wrong assumption.
Johnny's boys = guys who take old man Johnny Kitagawa's cock up their ass. And that's a fact, not a flame (no pun originally intended). Of course it has a lot to do with yaoi.
>>305 yes yes we know what he was up to, but that still doesnt change the fact that his boys are well known to a large young audience all over the world. There is an untapped overseas marketing opprtunity for Japan. Johnny's fans couldnt care less about Mr K's (nonexistent) sex life.
In 1995, Akiyo Asaki was murdered. Akiyo Asaki was helping people want to quit Soka Gakkai. Soka Gakkai was added in sect index in some countries in Europe, (France, Austria, German,Chili, Bergian etc..) Asaki was criticizing some of criminal activities and other illegal activities of Soka. Akiyo Asaki was obviously murdered. We don't know exactly who murdered her, but think about what she was working on, then you can guess who murdered her. It is said Soka Gakkai the religious organization is the biggest suspect. Right after the homicide, even before police announce whether it's a homicide or suicide, Soka Gakkai magazine "ushio" said Akiyo Asaki committed suicide because of the shop-lift. It does not sound right at all. If Soka Gakkai has nothing to do with the homicide, why do they say the reason for her to commit suicide is shop-lift. If Soka Gakkai is really innocent, they could have said "we did not do it, that's all"and it will be sufficient. I can not understand why they make up such a fictitious story to insist that they are innocent.
When I was in elementary school,, I've met some kids trying to get away when they break vase, light on ceiling or window by saying "did Jon do it?" or "It is broken because of the nature cause isn't it". One who did wrong says stupid things. What Soka Gakkai said is not any better than that. The stolen T-shirts costs about 1900yen(approximately 21 U.S Dollars). Akiyo Asaki was working for Higashi Murayama City, and she returned some of her salary to the city. The total amount was 8,000,000 YEN(90,000 US Dollars). She is not greedy at all, so why do you think she steals such a cheap T-shirts costs only 1900Yen? It is impossible to believe the story. Later we found out that the boutique(guy?) claimed the shop-lift incident is a subscriber of Seikyou-Shinbun,(It is a news paper for Soka Gakkai member.). Even before police says whether it's a homicide or suicide, the Soka said Akiyo Asaki committed suicide because of the shop-lift. It does not sound right. The prosecutor, handled this case, and his superviser, they both are kanbu(people in superior position in soka) of Soka Gakkai. It does not seem to be a fair investigation. Think about this. When Soka Gakkai members give you problen and you talk to police officers and prosecutors actually a member of Soka Gakkai, what would happen? There are possibility that you end up going thru the same thing as Akiyo Asaki has gone thru. We are here to tell you the truth, to stop the corruption of police, justice, media, freedom of speech and publishing.
I read that Japanese people want to be considered White, and not Asian. They argue their skin is very pale after living 1000's of years in the cold whether of Japan. They also argue that people think of them highly in every sense of the word, so they're ready to be whitey. What do you all think?
>>300 The vast majority of people over here who listen to Japanese pop music are also those who are (or used to be) interested in anime, mainly because initial contact to Japanese music is usually through either a show's beginning or ending theme or through Japanese video game soundtracks - usually the highly stylised ones. As I say, this is just on the basis of majority - not everyone falls into this category. If you bother to look on the net, you'll see this trend.
>>301 I don't really know much about her (other than what I read on Wikipedia five minutes ago), but she released a song a couple years ago... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZZuxC2CqDg It's not really very good, oh well...
>>311 Bottom line is, it's okay if your sexual preference is young pretty boys sucking and fucking an old ugly man and vice-versa. I personally think it's abnormal, but it's okay. You can rub your clit all you want to that imagery.
But people don't need to hear or read about such sexual fantasies. Of course you're free to, many others do it online and on 2ch, this thread being no exception. But, it would be nice if you didn't. Please have some courtesy.
>>313 You must live your life apart from football, fish and chips and beer. You should associate with working class people and enjoy talking about gossip, tabloid news papers and page three girls.
I may have lumped Keeley Hazel in with Jordan. Jordan seems to be much more famous than Hazel, eventhough they are page three girls they relesed singles and sells sexuality.
Speaking of Yaoi, the 801 board is considered one of the toughest here on 2ch, along with Kijo (married women), so you might not want to mess with them at all. In fact, those Korean netizens first rushed at the board, thinking it had something to do with Yaocho (staged match), but they got trolled back like 50,000 times harder by the residents there. I found it pretty funny.
>>319 I hadn't heard of him until the BBC reported his death a week ago. The only film of his that really stands out is The Lost Boys. I'm not sure how popular he was among other people here.
>>317 I think Jordan had a lot more publicity. She seems to be trying to do almost anything for attention from the public, and desperately wants people to like her. She's like a slightly more popular version of Heather Mills (McCartney).
Don't worry, I'll take my whippet down to the pub tomorrow, and chat with my working class comrades. On the way back, I'll fetch some fish and chips. Then wake up the next morning, put on my bowler hat, and stroll outside drinking some tea and complaining about the weather.
It's almost 4am, and I'm still working on a couple brochures for a client. Almost done... almost done...
>>314 Quite a few ex-johnny's people confessed relationships with him and the court ruled that boy's testimonies were reliable and beared no illegality.
We are not saying kamenashi was okini(favorite) of kitagawa and exploited by him. Kitagawa is too old and in my opinion kamenashi is not kitagawa's taste.
When it comes to gay-related issues people usually bring up Johnny & Associates, Inc,. It's just disappointing. Ordinary gay have nothing to do with sexual abuse.
>>313 I made an effort not to be confrontational but I hate your patronising attitude. Your statistics are all wrong. Your life view is limited to your statistics.
You are such a thick headed pathetic old man really.
Yeah she should just go away, it'll do everyone including her a favor. You can tell her face is flushed red and her eyes are teared up from all the typos and the messed up anchors. Just not cut out for the internets.
>>327 The whippet and flat-cap are stereotypes of people from Yorkshire. These days, people associate Yorkshire with farmers, but they're also the most trusted people in the country, seen as honest and hard working. In Victorian times, Yorkshire was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, with many factories and mills, as well as technological developments, such as modern concrete and assembly lines.
As for whippet dogs, I don't have one.
>>330 I'm not sure how it's condescending when I did as you asked and looked on the net for such information. Now I am hurt because you've pointed out that I am old and pathetic, and have nothing left to do in life except wait to die.
I think its funny and also pathetic how fangirls get defensive of their idols and say people are jealous of the idols or whatever, when actually its the fangirls themselves that people are annoyed with and dont like, not their idols.
>>333 I have just found out that shaver costs \30,00 to \45,000... I'm pretty damn sure it's all high-tech and works more than perfect, but ridiculously expensive for a shaver. I think I'll stick to my \100 razor.
>>337 Oh, I see. I remember you told us before about people from Yorkshire. They are trusted, and customer-relations centers tend to use them, so you hear the Yorkshire accent if you call them....
BTW, is there such thing as Eton accent? Or is it the same as Oxford or Cambrige accents?
>>340 you don't get the whole point. Kamenashi wouldn't be selling a cheap razor. If you have smooth skin, girls (and some boys) will kiss you. Sorry if I sounded judgemental or anything in 359. Maybe you're just having fun to make commotion here. Whatever your intention is exchainging verbal abuses may be better than a very slow thread. I'm going to bed, Futon, rather.

>>375 European men usually have a log like body shape. Tall and straight, boring. Rarely you see a thin waist like that. They are big, fat and shapeless unless trained. Even the beautiful ones are too thick on the waist. I wouldnt think that V-shape, compact, slim body with the right muscles is a common body shape anywhere.
Reagardless of ugly boys or beautiful boys including Johnny's boys will turn to fat, oily, boring with love handle around waste middleaged men without exceptions. Any thought?
I feel sad when I saw this video. I wonder what I would have done if I had been on the spot. According to the video discpription, the shouting man were on "Silver" seat, which is seat common in Japanese train and These seats are for elderly people. If no elderly people around, you can sit on Silver seat. It's recommended that you give your seat to standing elderly people when they stand near you.
The problem is not the shouting man was sitting on one of the silver seats. The man was listening to music loud with earphones and the sound was leaking. The old man warned him to turn down the volume. The man got angry and shouted him back furiously.
The shouting is very ugly. He says things like, "You, smelly old man," again and again. "I'm hard to hear things so none of your business." Of course this is his excuse and I doubt he has a problem of hearing. I think he just got angry because he was warned. And, he says to the old man "You are smelly." "When you are very old and smelly and annoying, why in the world can you warn on the volume? you take care of your smell and don't bother the volume"
According to the video discription, no one mediate this fuss. The person who filmed the video regretted no one could help the old man. He showed the video to a station employee and he said he would report this incident to higher level station staff. But the person who fimed the video got the impression he's just saying that and that no specific measure would be taken.
He says he uploaded this video after he got permission from the old man but I doubt the old man understands upload or anything. The shouting man is old enough to behave when warned. I don't mean to sound like Mr. Justice but I'm sure the shouting man should have acted differently than shouting furiusly like that.

I have some normal pens and a cosmic pen. The normal pen is smaller than the cosmic pen. The cosmic pen is twice as large as the Andromeda Galaxy. I nicknamed her "Mache." I'm willing to show her to you but I can't do it. Because the law of universal gravitation is sure to break the earth. I'm not a liar. I hope simply to maintain peace.
"Out of sight, out of mind." She is an automatic cosmic pen. In somewhere of the universe today she is signing cosmic documents for the profit of the earth by herself. Mache, we don't forget you. We all love you. Thank you.
Thank you. What an utterly useless feature. Who would ever want to reload it like a maniac anyway? I only check it every now and then, between bits of reading.
I'm not for kamenasshi's beatuty at all. Even many japanese cast doubts about his face. Many say it's average or worse than average. Exaggerations may be included. But his (made-up) popularity and apprearaces on media seem to be unproportional to his real popularity. Besides Few people attack akanishi(kamenashi's counterpart) for his ugliness. Johhnny inc made them debut with great fanfare. And Kamenashi was the center for some reason. But it was a total failure compared to their prior expectations. Then Johnny dicided to sell akanishi as well and made kattoon? double center group. But this promotion didn't succeed much either. News was a failure too. But yamashita alone has been successful. I have to agree yamashita is a cool beauty. I don't like him either though. lol
And about age and beauty, go hiromi has been in quite a good shape since his debut. There are dislikes and likes, depending on person. But none argues that go hiromi is ugly. Kamenashi and go is different.
My opinion offends kamenashi fan girls. I just want to say people who bash kamenashi come from no jelousy.
>>406 Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. So I respect yours but here is mine. I think Hiromi Go is very ugly. He also has very strange voice and likes himself too much. Kamenashi stands out because he is different in many respects, such as the way he dances, the fact that he truly is a very good baseball player, etc. In any case, Go is a passe and Kame is living in the 21st century.
Kamenashi don't have a special talent. He can't have a big impact on my life. I don't think that I want to become him and highly of him. He is one of the citisenry for me. That's all.
To kamenashi fan girls. Since you fell in love with him, you have some illusion. Don't worry about it. When I was in love, I was just same as you are. Kamenashi's matter is one of trivial things in my life. How can I jealous of him?
By the way, I think Kame-nashi is unlucky name. KAME(meaning dick)-NASHI(meaning without) dispirits me. Excuse me, girls.
don't know about kame-hame, but I do know a girl who frantically ask for dicks. big dick. small dick. hard dick. soft dick. whatever. doesn't matter to her as long as it's a dick.
oh no! i was writing a long one and lost the message.
great to see people are talking about Kame. To reply some of your questions:
>>403 I am from Venus because you are from Mars. >>404 Your deduction method is flawed. >>405 Akanishi and Yamapi are cold beauties, they don't move my soul. Kame has a crooked nose and has a small frame. and may have spots. But he looks so hot that way. as >>407 says it is the way he moves. He tries so hard and is such a perfectionist, he stands out. moves like a snake, does unexpected things on stage so one gets transfixed watching his moves. I have come across people who do that naturally. BTW I am surprised that Japanese has changed that much since I looked in the dictionary. Turtle-pears is very successful, like Ikuta Toma, he managed to spread his fame all over the world. Tell me if you still aren't jealous now.
Ok fools, enough of Kamenashi and johnny's crap, this isn't remotely LOL entertaining. Quit feeding her the way trolls wants to be fed 'cause you guys are not going anywhere with this one.
The guy who pretended the Toyota Prius didn't stop was short of cash and on the verge of bankruptcy. He at least wanted money, if he didn't do it as a part of conspiracies against Japan. But I end up inferring from all that bunch of events occurred in the US that Toyota problems are all made-up, led by the US government itself. In fact, no other region in the world including the EU and Japan has not reported such incidents regarding Toyota Prius. If Prius has mechanical problems itself, the same kind of reports must come from all over the world.
and kyoko was sitting next to kame, ready to give him a head, when she saw a shiny gold prius outside of the window on the left, speeding as if it were being chased by a police car. "what the fuck..." he said in a somewhat disappointed voice.
The vote on health care plan will take place this Sunday at the earliest. President Obama is confident that the bill will pass. 46% of Americans is for the passage, while 45% is against it. Do you think it will pass?

Sorry for being a bit Kame, but Has anyone watched the Academy Awards this year?
I saw it last night, and saw that as soon as Steve Martin on the stage made fun of TOYOTA Prius, the camera zoomed in on George Cooney and aired his grumpy face while eveyone else was laughing. I wonder if he is doing the commercial of the car also in the US? Otherwise, how would anyone know that he is doing it in Japan?
>>438 I know...the weather was terrible last night wasn't it, but as you said without much rain. I was woken up by a BIG sound of thunder, and I thoguht some huge iron ball or something fell from the sky.
>>446 I guess it was a joke for 445. I believe Japanese joke is the best in the world. Westerners often say Japanese has no sense of humor. It's untrue.
I heard, when you can make a joke in English, your English skill is deemed to be first rate. So I always try to make a joke(including dirty ones) in this thread. However, I strongly feel my English is still in low level.
Anyway, what's the definition of Ikemen? There are some previous posts concerning who's beautiful and who's not, taking Johnny's idols for example. But did you guys ever think about the general principle of which type of face can be called beautiful, especially of men? Recent studies show that there is NO principle in beauty of men's face, while women's beauty can be clearly described. Without this consensus about the beauty of face, the debate over the face is futile. In short, the discussion is only of one's preferences, which are not applicable to everyone.
>>450 I didn't know there was such thing as 'description for women's beauty.' Some people consider Penelope Cruz beautiful and others might think Gwyneth Paltrow beautiful, but there is no commonality between the two women.
Could you tell us what the studies say about criteria for women's beauty?
It's pointless because the notion of beauty changes with time, and culture. In the middle ages in Japan, women who had plump faces and had their teeth dyed black were deemed beautiful. It's TV so it could have been rigged, but Masami Hisamoto was chosen as the hottest among pictures of Japanese models and idols shown to African tribesmen.
But one thing is certain when it comes to faces, a near symmetrical face is what we naturally see as beautiful. The funny thing is, when a face is PERFECTLY symmetrical, we feel awkward and don't see it as beautiful.
>>451 Thanks for the response. The criteria of women's beautiful face differ in races and regions, but the following conditions are found universally.
The chin is relatively sharp but not very long
The eyes are relatively big
The nose is relatively slim, but not too sharp
The hair is long
The following is the features found among beautiful Japanese women.
The distance between eyes is relatively wide
The chin is relatively short
The distance between the tip of the nose and the upper lip is relatively wide.
The 'relative' as I mentioned above refers to the deviation from the average. Of course, women's face is more beautiful when it's closer to the average in general.
If you look at men(boys) or women(girls) as dolls, there should be some definition. Independent men(women) have their own beauty inside. As you know, women used to be viewed as men's doll in Japan(and maybe also other countries).
Yeah, we men have a long tradition to call women sex animals, as you can see in the magazines like Playboy. We men even view the playmates as Pets, like a bunch of sexual toys. Women are slaves to men forever, as long as human beings continue to fuck each other.
A woman is the true power of the world. With a batting of an eyelash and the tilt of a hip, they destroy the minds of strong men and run the world however they wish.
I don't mind that, myself. Women are generally smarter nowadays.
No, ugly women are the strongest actually. Direct eye contact of a truly ugly woman can crush the minds of every single man within the 100m radius, so it's kind of true that some women have the true power.
It is males that must look beautiful, strong and attractive. Only then females can select the best. That is the rule with all animals. But humans have discovered the concept of money. Female selection of mates criteria is destroyed by rich ugly men. Thatis why the world is in such a miserable state..
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/7391/keniz.jpg My name is Ken. I am a beautiful, strong and attractive man. I aim to fulfill the traditional japanese standards of dress. I had my kimono hand woven and trim my beard and hair regularly. My dream is to one day marry a beautiful japanese woman. We'll have beautiful kids together.
>>482 Which do you prefer, Digo or Joy? I think both are equally annoying, but Joy has a very Zannen facial structure for a mix of English and Japanese parents.
>>489 That's because Japan has been foolishly following the footsteps of the US, the nation on the verge of extinction. In order to reshape the Japanese way of thiking back to that of before WWII, the governement introduced the policy of Yutori (lax) education, but it just ended up producing lots of NEETS as we all are aware. I think the extremely rich Hatoyama family should donate some of their assets to save this conutry.
>>494 Japan has been foolishly following the footsteps of the USSR, not the USA. The social structure of Japan was modeled after the that of USSR(the highly equal society lead by bureaucrats). That's why I am afraid that Japan would collapse like USSR did.

I ate Ohagi(a kind of Japanese confectionary made from rice cake wrapped up by red bean paste) today. I usually find it too sweet, but want to eat it sometimes. A combination of a piece of Ohagi and a cup of green tea is perfect. It's March, and the temperature here is not too hot or cold, it's the best season in a year.
In Japan, the unemployment rate is about 5 per cent, whereas that of the U.S. is about 9.4 per cent.(That includes not only full-time jobs, but also part-time jobs.) What if the recession on a global scale continues? the yen is going up gradually while the dollar is going down.
If you take a close look at Yutori and NEET, you find little or no connection between the two. Rather, you find a geneartion gap; the majority of those who received yutori education haven't reached the age to promote and sell themselves in the job market yet. Their lowered academic performance, however, might lead to a substantial lack of competitiveness against foreign firms in the world market. I think that can be a secondary impact of it on the Japanese economy sometime.
Yes,the two differ,but... Yutori don't have lowered academic performance. Some "Dankai" spoiled their own childre by the physical and metal cruelty ,etc. In Japan a lot of older people regard the Adult Children as those who are wheedling child.
So why are NEETs being NEETs then? They've received faire amount of education, their parents are doing OK financially, etc. etc. It boils down to the fact that NEETs are only being lazy.
Dankai made the bubble economy and the collapse of it. In the bubble they spoiled their own children by indulge and threat of money, but in the collapse Dankai took their displeasure out on their children. So they made both economic and family collapse.
For Dankai generation, making tons of money was the top priority. They retain some memories of childhood, where their parents were starving and in need of money due to the defeat of the country in WWII. The generations after Dankai have no idea of making so much money, and rather, they are in serious need of family bond and friendship which they can hardly find in today's Japan. And this, "I-don't-need-so-much-money" attitude has been quite natural and common among older Japanese generations.
I don't say so about all of the Dankai. We can only know my own family. I may have gone a little too far. But the Japanese government must develop the internal human resources before they think about the immigrant policy.
During the prolonged recesssive peroid, so called "lost 10 years" after the bubble bursted, companies in various fields find it difficult to manage with Japan's long tradition of the 'permanent employment' system. Then, the government deregulated the use of temp workers in an attempt to maintain the employment and economy, but working without proper benefits didn't help keep up the good work ethic in the long run. No one wants be exploited too long. The reason why some people choose not to work at all, I don't know. It may vary.
I was astonished by the big boobs of a U.S woman politician on the podium and her cleavage, explaing about new healthcare program. I don't know whetehr she was for or against the bill. Who is she? She looked middle-aged.
>>486 he is boring... how he became an idol is beyond me. being some politician's grandson makes one "noble" does it? That makes him doubly repulsive, regardless of his ikemenish looks.
He is a grandson of a former Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita. He is 31 or 32 years old and already over the hill to be called sexy or stuff. Look at his resume. He made his debut as a visual-kei musician, but was totally unsuccessful. but he made his second debut as a being-kei musician. The name of the Prime Minister is his catchphrase. He became popular among 30 something housewives after that. There's some political clout behind his success.
>>535 Yeah, I agree. Daigo is in a way in the same category of bokuikemen. Daigo is a half-clown. He is playing ikemen character.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ5FO5giA4k Real ikemen is like him. I am not a fan of him. I knew of him and stumbled upon him on tv a couple of hours ago. he was just a good example of ikemen.
As for raba, japanese usually write raba in katakana character, ラバ. And foreingn languages are usually written in katakana. So I gueessed rabaラバ derived from English.
>>534 It's nonsense that daigo was removed from appearing on kohaku utagassen, music battles on new year's eve becase his background with former and deceased primeminister takeshita could have promoted jimin party, then-ruling party.
I wonder whether hatoyama appears in this year's kohaku. he might dare to do so. Hatoyama was on the stage of nihon academy award.
>>538 Which means his background works both positively and nagatively for his career. I think that's faire enough, because Daigo wouldn't have been known to general publich but for his granpa.
>>540 isnt this strange, that when you say you love Daigo, I do not call you "a rabid Yaoi fanboy", or question whether you have a boyfriend or ever had one, whether you are Eastern European or not, etc etc. I wanted to point out this huge difference in behaviour. And add that, perhaps you men are disrespectful of women's choices, tastes, thoughts to the point of reflex. Maybe if you accept them the way they are, you would be more open, understanding and friendly toward women. Thank you for reading this sincere note.
The health care bill passed in the U.S. parliament today. Good or bad, it surely is a historical day for the U.S. What kind of impact does health care reform have on the U.S.? Some of the U.S. critics predict that the U.S. will be like Japan in the 21st century. The biggest benefit that the people will get is the increased population that is insured. But there must be adverse effects , too. Japan's medical care has been a total failure in these two decades. Shortages of medical staff has been one of its biggest causes. Why did it happen? Because of poor medical expenses. Japan used to be the No.1 country in the world in terms of the medical standard. But the expense cuts could not stop Japan from falling off the cliff. There are enough evidences that the future of the medical care in the U.S. will be like that in Japan. This health care reform is a necessary evil that's inevitable for the reconstruction of the U.S., but if the fall of the nation begins, it will be from here.
Yeah they say..R&D budget for higher medical technology will be curbed so..significantly, and progress will be hampered.. but there was no other way to break the deadrock situation?
I was secretly harboring my expectation to.. pet doggy's cloning, giving birth of 8 childs all at once freely by woman in 50s, or..the development of secret mind-reading machine etc..by wacky Americans.. But such things will be all gone shortly? Sad!..
The concept of health insurance here is quite foreign. Part of our taxes go toward state-funded healthcare, provided to anyone of any social standing or level of income. There is the option of private healthcare for those who can afford it though.
Do you get better treatment if you pay for the private healthcare? If so, what is the better treatment as compared to the ordinary healthcare? Stronger pain killers, or something?
Looks like real brit person talking about their health care!? I saw it in Michael Moore's Sicko- compared to American system it looked like paradice like Guantanamo bay.
>>548-549 All the medical technologies that you posed here sound so crazy! But looking back all the history of medical progress, such as organ transplantation and infertility treatment, there was always somebody crazy who dared to do that. Universal health care won't stop such technologies from being developed. I think some of these were already realized in some parts of the world :)
>>551 The treatment isn't necessarily better. I suppose you could say that state run hospitals might be like three-star hotels, whereas some private institutions might be like five-star hotels. The service is usually friendlier and more personal, with greetings, face to face consultation, more options and so on. Private doctors, consultants and surgeons are always better paid. Unnecessary operations, such as cosmetic surgery, is always done through private centres rather than state-run.
>>558 It is true that through the National Health Service (NHS - the state-funded one) about a decade ago, the waiting times could be horrendously long, even for some pretty major operations. The waiting times are a lot fairer now, though, and carried out well before the fifteen week limit. I know people who have only had to wait a few days before their procedures could be carried out.
However, there is still not enough government funding to the medical sector which could shorten times even further. Much of the problem is due to lack of space in hospitals for patients. They will never be prematurely discharged (unless they demand to be discharged from hospital) until treatment been carried out and shown to be working. This means many of the wards are full, and patients cannot be accepted until there is room. This means that occasionally, patients have to be sent to non-local hospitals, which is pretty inconvenient, but this doesn't happen too often.
The quality of service also depends on the foundation trust management (the foundation trust being the board which has jurisdiction over a cluster of hospitals and clinics in an area or district). The food in one hospital might be wonderful, but get transferred to another, and it might be disgusting.
my mom said- .. usually in places like Tokyo, the dirtier or the shabbier the hospital is, the nicer its (actual) medical assistance (to the long-stay patients..) is.. Because good-looking hospitals are often a place for short stay people.. namely, the hospitals expect them passing away soon..
>>556, 561 Thanx very much for you very clear explanation about the situation in UK. What we call 'shortage of hospital beds' has also been a problem in Japan as well. For example, here, mothers usually stay 1 week after a child birth, then go home. Whereas in US, I've heard that they are almost forcebly released from the hospital the next day, or something. So Japanese women having a child-birth in US tend to go to hospitals with Japanese-flavor (i.e. owned by a Japanese doctor) to be on the safe side.
>>563 >usually in places like Tokyo, the dirtier or the shabbier the hospital is, the nicer its (actual) medical assistance (to the long-stay patients..) is
This is very true for Chinese restaurants, especially for the Ramen shops!! The Ramen shop owners are too busy experimenting for producing good Ramen to clean the shop, seems to be the ground for dirtiness.
What you say sounds like 'I meant to use salt, and used sugar instead'. In this case, 'instead of' is a better fit than 'for', because the sentence structure can make it confusing.
>'I meant to use salt, and used sugar instead'. Maybe that's what I wanted to express. The situation is that I wanted to use salt, but I confused sugar with salt and used sugar mistakenly. I want to express more idiomatically. I was worried that "mistake A for B" could refer only to the movements of minds and could not be used for actual movements.
>In this case, 'instead of' is a better fit than 'for', because the sentence structure can make it confusing. Do you mean "I mistook(misused?) sugar insted of salt" is more clear? Do you mean that "I mistook sugar for salt" could be interpreted as "I used sugar eventhough I meant to use sugar" but it could be interpreted as "I thoght sugar was salt" as well?
I looked up in the dictionaries on the web and googled the phrases.
As I said, mistake(verb) seems to come with one's own wrong judgement.
And this is one example I picked up on the web. "How many people have accidentally used salt instead of sugar." Then I guess "I used sugar (accidentally or mistakenly) instead of salt." is what>>568 meant to say. If somebody has suggestions to my thought, it will be grately appreciated.
>>567 I disagree. I don't know any dirty ramen shops that are good. It's impossible to have a clean kitchen at a ramen shop, but if the customers side is dirty, don't count on good food. It makes me wonder what's at the bottom of the soup pot.
>>574 Your original line in >>565 "I mistook sugar for salt" is fine.
"I mistook sugar for salt" Think about the situaiton that I poured spoonfuls of sugar into boiling hot water for spaghetti. "I mistook sugar for salt" Does it boil down to refering to the time when I assumed sugar was salt and I was not pouring sugar yet.
'I mistook sugar for salt' is fine, but mistook is not a common word and may confuse some people who read different forms of English. It refers that you had already poured out the sugar first, and then realised your mistake.
Execuse me,I'm going to have TOEIC test this time. But when I did the test before, my score was just 400. Newt time I want about 500. I would like something good advice,if you will.
>>576 Good Chinese restaurants in the China Town in London are usually dirty and waiters/waitresses are extremely unfriendly. You need to be careful because they are always in bad mood for some reason and throw bowls and chopsticks at you!
>>603 I'm planning to apply for a trading company or a travel agency in a south east asian country. But I'm nervous about the job interview in English, though I have been staying in the country for a year. >>604 I'm not into a part time job.
Hey guys, I have a question...I have a friend who is Japanese, if I haven't seen them in about 3 weeks is it okay to write ひさしぶり in an e-mail? How long does it have to be before you say that? We're pretty good friends, I've never used the phrase before to anyone.
>>606 The word, ひさしぶり, depends on how often you contact them in regular basis. If you usually contact them once in a week, for example, you can use ひさしぶり when you haven't seen them in about 3 weeks.
The word ひさしぶり seems like a strange word even to a Japanese like me. I remember I felt something strange when I heard my parents use this word in my childhood. So I imagine that it's a rather difficult concept to understand for non-native speakers of Japanese. In English composition class, Japanese students learn it's translated to phrases like, "after a long absence," "after a while." But I've never heard English native speakers use such phrases. I also feel there's a great gap between ひさしぶり and these phrases.
>>606 As you already know, ひさしぶり means "Long time no see" and it's a phrase you can use when you see someone you haven't seen in a long period of time. The question here is how long is long enough. 3 weeks is definitely long enough. 2 weeks is okay. 1 week is in my opinion safe, though others might disagree. Oh, when greeting someone in a formal situation, a Japanese might say "おひさしぶりです" instead. This means "I haven't seen you for such a long time." As you can see, it's a subtle difference in how they look, but actually there's a huge difference in nuance. You might want to keep that in mind ;)
I've heard that the phrase, "Long time no see" derives from Hawaiian dialect. This phrase has a grammatically incoherent structure. I suspect that the origin of the phrase is Chinese. Chinese people tend to express things in four Chinese characters. That's why I think that way.
i say hisashiburi to my japanese friends whenever i would say "long time, no see" to my american friends. this is probably incorrect for nihonjin, but if i feel like it's been a long time, i say it.
I'm for reconciliation. Later this week, I'll make that case. But if you choose to fight the evidence, here's what you're up against. Among white Americans, the average IQ, as of a decade or so ago, was 103. Among Asian-Americans, it was 106. Among Jewish Americans, it was 113. Among Latino Americans, it was 89. Among African-Americans, it was 85. Around the world, studies find the same general pattern: whites 100, East Asians 106, sub-Sarahan Africans 70. One IQ table shows 113 in Hong Kong, 110 in Japan, and 100 in Britain. White populations in Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States score closer to one another than to the worldwide black average. It's been that way for at least a century.
>>579 My understanding is "mistake(verb) is "to recognize A as B errorneously". It's about wrong perception. So it(I mistook sugar for salt) can apply to when I saw a sugar box and thought it a salt box or When I poured spoonsfuls of sugar into boiling pot with spaghetti in it.
My response might be strage because I am a questioneer first. Your explanation helps a lot and I wanted to narrow the differences between us.
cosmetic surgery >>556 cosmetic surgery is not covered by health care system in the U.K? In japan it's the case.
Is it true for patients to get medical treatments for free? Any medical treatments are free? I guess patients can't necessarily get state-of-the arts treatments, even if they will. it must be the case in the U.K. No?
I'm not very good at keeping in touch with my friends, and it's not unusual for me to lose touch with them for long stretches like a couple of years sometimes. I'd just say, 元気?, and they're fine with me most of the time.
I heard by the news that a company in the US launched the rental friends service recently. I had a fixed idea that all American people are outgoing and cheerful and have lots of friends like american dramas. So when I know the service, I was surprised that lots of lonely people exsist even in the US.
>>614 Cosmetic surgery is only covered with very strict guidelines. One cannot have cosmetic surgery, for example, if they feel their nose is too big, or if they want a better looking mouth. They would have to go to a private surgery for that. However, if the surgery is for facial reconstruction in the event of an injury, then it will be done through state funding. Some state-funded hospitals do have clinical trials for machines and drugs, so a lot of the machinery and procedures are state-of-the-art. But only available to those who really need it. In short, healthcare is free as long as the patient needs it to be able to function effectively in social and working environments.
>>605 Good luck with your interviews. Just practise a lot and have confidence in yourself. South-east Asia can be a crazy place, but I have some good memories there.
>>616 Wow, I am relived to know I'm not the only one. My friends and I are exactly like that. I admit to having only a few close friends who I can confide in. To be exact, only two. I haven't been in touch with one of them for nearly 2 years. I talked with the other one a couple of weeks ago, but it was a conversation through e-mail. Nonetheless, every time we see each other for the first time in quite a long time, we just start chatting as if we had seen each other the day before. It sometimes feels funny, but that's how we have been with each other.
>>617 I don't figure out what kind of stupid you are talking about if there's only one kind of stupid, but friends are something you can be stupid with and enjoy being stupid with, and it's really a fun thing to do. Also I woulnd't agree with you that friends will ALWAYS let you down. Friends may let you down sometimes, but as far as I'm concerned, it's not always that my friends let me down, anyways.
I too prefer syouyu ramen and sio ramen. Almost all of the tonkotsu ramen I have eaten tasted so rich that I would soon get tired and was not able to eat it all. Many people say that that rich flavored taste is what tonkotsu ramen is all about, but I personally like plain tasted ramen much better.
Do you know "山頭火"? This ramen house serves tonkotsusio ramen. I think it isn't oily, but if anything it's near to tonkotsu,so it has thick roast porks.
I just reviewed what I've written on >>628 and remembered about the friend who I mentioned earlier I haven't been in touch with for almost 2 years. He once let me down big time when I realized that he had divulged to a friend of his who's a total stranger to me, a secret that I wanted to keep between him and me. This was rather more of a shock to me and got me so upset that I even determined not to confide in him never again... Yet, it's good to have friends, I would say.
>>638 Sweet flavored ramen... That sounds awful to me (if I can be honest with you...) I myself have never been to Santouka, but your mentioning made me curious.
I don't live near Santouka now. I was glad that the instant cup ramen of Santouka released then, but it can't catch the taste, smell and the texture of the noodles. I found it rather disappointing.
"The climate of the earth is much milder than that of my planet," Jelly said. He(hermaphrodite creature)is my alien friend. His real name is Bod,but I named him to distinguish him from my friend Bob. He seems like a jellyfish,so I named him "Jelly." I said to him that I thanked him for coming on behalf of human beings. The future of this planet depends on whether I can live at peace with Jelly. He likes ramen and curry, too.I'll go to Santouka together.
The problem worked out already. If you've been eating only curry every day for a week, your poop( dilute it with water,OK) will become what? Let's try in person!
Health care bill was passed and signed. Most of the middle-class Americans will be covered with insurance. But there lies a long road before them to getting proper medical care. Will the day come when the dog-eat-dog world end?
Japan has adopted universal health insurance system after WWII, but it's very likely that the system will collapse in 30 years. Then most of the Japanese are obligated to take out private insurance policy and many of them will be left uninsured. In this sense, Japan is going just the opposite direction. More than half the Japanese are becoming working-poor, and some of them would not get proper medical care at hospitals.
Yuna has an ugly personality, doen't she? Why did she put her luggage on the Mao's seat? Why was she useing a cellular phone the interview to Mao.? She is an obvious typical Korean. Why am I displeased at the match of the figure skating whether Mao wins or loses?
Her pussy smells like Kimchi. I love it when I taste hers. The stinging flavor blends into the scent of vaginal secretion, and they play a supreme harmony. I took some red pepper and smear it to the pussy. She cried in joy and agony.
Hello everyone :) I am American. Have any of you ever heard of Kentucky? It is a state in america. I've lived there for 24 years. some people think only rednecks live in kentucky, however this is not true.
>>680 Typically, there will be a small community or group of houses built in a "holler". Some people use it similarly to "subdivision", or a small group of homes built around the same time. Often, especially in the Appalachian areas, such as in eastern Kentucky, many of the people in a "holler" will be members of the same family.
I was curious about where Kentucky is located in the U.S.. so consulted a world atlas at hand. The area of the state is relatively small bur maybe bigger than that of Japan.
>>687 In terms of square kilometers, Japan is actually about three times larger as Kentucky. Kentucky is closer to America's northern border with Canada than it is to the Gulf of Mexico, however almost everybody still considers Kentucky to be part of "The South". This is because during the American Civil War in the 1800s, Kentucky was part of the Confederate States of America, who were attempting to separate from the USA and form their own nation. The Confederacy was made up of many southern American states, which are all considered to be "The South" today, at least culturally speaking.
>>683 I apologize for missing your question yesterday. It's true that in America today, many young people have adopted aspects of hip-hop culture. This is not only limited to pronunciation and vocabulary, but fashion as well. This pronunciation and grammar is often referred to as "Ebonics", from "ebony", meaning black.
>>688 No, people don't generally care about figure skating. It's just that figure skate fans in general are a bit crazy and loud, and to make matters worse right winged people in both countries use the Asada-Kim rivalry as a way to argue superiority of their nation.
>>689 I don't know much about the American history, which I learned, for the most part, in my school days. When it comes to the Civil War, we tend to have a prejudice that the south was on the wrong side back then. Because the Civil War is often told in connection with the emancipation of slaves by Lincoin .
>>689 You from Kentuckey reminds me of this song titled "East to/of Kentuckey." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8VbYNKAvAI I wonder if you can recognize English sentences, shouted out some times in the song. This is a song probably from the perspective of a baby chick. This is just a comic nonsense song so don't take it seriously but it shows Kentuckey is associated with a fried chicken among Japanese people.
The singer isn't a professional singer and somehow in a project or something he sings this song and maybe some others. He do a lot of things in his carrer even acting but he's famous as a DJ for radio and TV shows. I haven't seen/listened to him on TV and radio recently though.
This is when he was young. This TV show was his signiture show and back then this show is precious and rare source of American, UK and other Western countries's music information for Japanese people. Japanese people me included admired his English fluency while we watched his shows. We admire him when he speakes English with various guests on the show A few decades has passed and still I don't think I'm not as fluent as him. Shame on me.
The show in >>698 is a revival version of this show.
It's been a long time since I heard the name Katsuya Kobayashi. He used to a center of topic among Japanese people learning English. Well, I remember virtually everyone wanted to be like him. I haven't seen him speak English for a while, but now I see him speak and find that he still is a great speaker of English. These TOTO members get along with him so naturally. I still don't see many Japanese people who casually interact with native speakers even today. Speaking of Kobayashi, I didn't like his voice because it was too nasal at first. But his proficiency of English exceeds everything else which is required for a DJ.
Also, TOTO is a great band. They epitomize the typical 80's professional musicians. They had enough musical skills to play "music", which is totally different from crappy rock bands nowadays. Personally I believe that the 80's is the most shining days of pop music. The songs in that era had a magnetic power to captivate listeners. Almost everyone listened to the radio and knew every top 40 song played on it.
Vote for BNP. Admit jews and ethnic British in the party. Then, at the time you have the power of majority, turn around abruptly and expel all the jews and non-whites. It's a secret blitz plan. It's a submarine approach. I'am counting on you, イギリス人. You know your duty and what to do next.
He looks great in his black suit. I like his voice too. He looks so serious though. A serious face is not entertaining. I see too many of them at work.
I could not care less about a drama's rating. If it is fun and engaging, I watch it. Most drama lack a good storyline, so I watch if the actors are good looking.
I think people who look at ratings are only a special breed of otaku.
on a discussion thread titled.. "should we ban the burga" (burga is the garment which Afghan muslim women put on..) ..my funny friend used to say this: What I find most disturbing about the burqa is the inherent sexism associated with it. Rather than banning it, why not make it compulsory for all fat ugly people of both genders?
France is a complete mess thanks to their uncontrolled immigration policy. Meanwhile they mainatin their elite education system which effectively excludes muslims and non european french and the poor. Graduates of Grandes ecoles are to be deployed to responsible positions for bearucrat and technocrat regardless of the marjority-take-all rule.
(but of course.. it was inspired by French burka ban.. I'm not sure how French immigration law is "lax" compared to UK's.. at least British law had been lax ..for accepting them from Common Wealth countries.. and now a lot of problem in both places
I heard thta George Lucus was eager to make a sequel or prequel to Star War's series. I must be a big happy suprise to Star Wars fans. Avatar chaged his mind to never produce live-Star Wars series again.
In today's technology, can it be possible that young mark hamill and harrison ford revivded on the screen? I wanna see it.
>>728 Japan will face the same kinds of problems soon with the government policy of accepting increased number of immigrants without having any specific policies as to how to deal with those new people with different cultural backgrouds. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against accepting immigarants, but it's just that the unpreparedness is something that bugs me. Remember what happened with uncontrollable Asashoryu and the incapable stable master? Japan could be the uncapable stable master and could face lots of problems with immigarants like Asashoryu who don't care to understand and conform to the way things are done in Japan.
Ever since the Democratic Party of Japan has started to take the leadership in Japan, there is a debate over whether Japan should accept immigrants from overseas or not. Even the political rights of these immigrants, to vote and to be voted, are discussed. This has been a pledge of the party but many citizens have been against it, since it would become difficult to maintain the public safety inside the country if the policy was granted admission. I personally believe that accepting this policy is absurd. In some countries in Europe, such as Netherlands and Germany, in fact, the endowment of political rights to foreigners are causing many problems. This policy seems to be even destroying these nations.
Obama just passed a law regarding health care. From now on, all the fast-food chain stores must put calorie counts on their menus. Even McDonalds, too. Will it change American people's behavior to prefer high calorie food? I don't think so. Some of them may look at the menu and stop eating heavy stuff that might lead to obesity. But others, not. They don't care about their diet no matter what, until hell freezes over. Japanese food are known for its low calories. But many Japanese people prefer high calorie American-style dinings to their traditional diets. Before Meiji era, they used to eat only fish as protein, except for some reindeer, canard, and boar meat on special occasions. They struggle to lose weight desperately in spite of realizing the cause of their obesity. Bad eating habits. according to Time magazine, People do not need to take a lot of exercise to lose weight, but they can, only by improving their diet. If you want to lose weight, kicking the bad eating habits is the easiest way. How about eating fish instead of meat? Fish contains less fat, a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acid, and even DHA, which makes you look younger and improves memory. Going back to the traditional diet will change your everything, because you are what you eat.
Yes, the ideal solution is not to give foreigners right to vote, kick them all out and eat only traditional food. The world would be a better place if every country sticks to their own. Anything else should not be tolerated. 2ch should be banned too. There are too many freeloaders not contributing to the economy. They should be forced to wear the Darth Wader outfit, and banned from voting.
Obma's improvement of Health care system does not change anything in US, but adults belonging to the lower middle layer' ll get to be able to receive medical services when they are ill, differing from the time up until now. Fast food chains such as McDonald might offer people some menus they say are health, though I think they often aren't worthy of health. Health will get to be the keyword attracting a lot of customers.
Thank you for a response. Are you talking of sounds of individual words? What I mentioned above was something like continuous sound between words, and the rhythm of a sentence it has when it spoken. It sounds like Haiku, with rhythm of 5 7 5.
>>750 as far as sound goes, one of my favorite English words is "Federation." In Japanese, I really like 式(しき) and 月(つき). But only when they're pronounced as "shkee" and "tskee" respectively, not when the /i/ and /u/ in the first syllables are stressed. In German, I like any compound word that contains "Geist," such as "Geisterhand," "Zeitgeist" or "Geisterfahrer."
>>753 >how do you stady about pronunciation, if youd like? me, I mostly watch videos and listen to music. When, while reading, I come across an English word of which I do not know the pronunciation, I sometimes look it up at dictionary.reference.com, which has audio clips or at the very least IPA for most of its entries. For Japanese, I unfortunately haven't found anything similar yet (I use kotobank.jp as my main dictionary, but it doesn't have audio clips. Jim Breen's JDIC does have audio clips, but it's a bilingual dictionary, which I generally try to avoid in favor of monolinguals).
Yes. Watching dramas and movies is a good way to learn a language. First, try to understand the gist of the story. Second, try to listen to the details using the subtitles. Third, look up the dictionary and understand the meaning of what is said. Fourth, repeat every line along the subtitles. Fifth, follow and read aloud every line without looking at the subtitles. Finally, memorize every line.
>>767 Are you a freshman? I just transfered to university from collage. Classes havent started yet but I'm already tired, probably as you are, coz the system to take classes is so complicated...
I'm a senior. This week I look around for selecting the classes to take.
Foreign students? You must really ambitious.Go for it!
I hate the complex system too. Moreover, since I've selected classes irresponsible til last year, A lack of units of professional education courses troubles me.
Hello everyone,my handlename is Umechi. I've been writing at the Owarai-kobanashi board for about 6years. I'm a student(1grade) of an University of Foreign Studies who still have non-confidence to my writing English(including Speaking)... So,I'm gonna do my best in here. I will come here if I have something to write. Everyone, please remember me.
>>798 When I'd came the Owarai-Kobanashi board for the first time, I'd used a handlename,"ウメッチ"(It has non-meaning). But when I was a highschool student(2grade),I thought "I think it's time to change my handlename". So,I shortened the handlename "ウメッチ" and turned it into"埋地". This is just a phonetic equivalent(Haha).
Nobody's here? U guys talk! It's just so lame talking here alone. Lol I guess it can't be helped. Listen guys, here is the breaking news! Polish president just died due to a plane crash. Omg...how could this happen?
Hello, everyone! I'm an university student in the second year and major in British and American literature. I also like studying English, but frankly speaking, I'm not good at English, so I would appreciate it if you could give me useful knowledge about English through this board. Be that as it may, I will make many efforts.
I am in the UK. Flights are cancelled due to the Eyjafjallajökuld volcanic ash precipitation. However I am not travelling anywhere so it is irrelevant to me.
Foreigner has entered the building! Call me Naba, or just call me an idiot, your call.
I shall dispense with everything I know of Western Culture, English language, and Commonwealth cooking. (I still don't know if Japan has househusbands).
The sky is somewhat a pale blue, with some clouds and some bright disc which is called the Sun I believe. They don't have much sunlight here. Today I felt like I was choking, I said to myself, "Oh no the volcanic ashes..". I then saw it was the next door neighbour burning the garden waste...
I didn't like the author murakami sometimes intentionally inserts unnecessary sexual (allusions?) ..or sex illusions with the protagonist girl in order to maintain male readers' instinctive interest with the novel, ...maybe male readers would stick to it simply like how they watched.. Dirty Harry's violence movie starring sexy woman, ..it's quite low level. almost like anime for the nerds, I hadn't been inclined to read after the chapter 4..yet
I am not stuck at the airport. I live in the UK. Btw the sky is looking rather different, the blue looks paler and grayer over Anglia. And the air is definitely stranger than before but I cannot describe it. I don't know how asthma and hay fever sufferers will cope.
British-based cooking, mostly. Hotpots, Bolognese', Ragus technically aren't British, but it's used so much in British, Ozzie and Kiwi cooking that it might as well be, like Kimchi. Then there's Toad in the Hole, Chops, Bubble and Squeak, Kippers, Jam pudding, Chocolate Tart, and so on.
4chan complains about that a lot, calling the later series like K-on and anything with a protagionist Tsundere 'Moeshit'. Is it too much to ask for some plotline without fanservice?
882 ..Maybe all European farmers will suffer cold weather damage on their crops.. during this summer-
(4chan-) Wow. Foreigners know too much about Haruki murakami! No Japanese youth know such thing at all..He might be..more Western author than JP author now.
Oh, I do not know if they know much about Haruki Murakami, (I didn't), but Westerners see the trend of authors, novelists and film producers tacking in superficial romance and fanservice as a sign of poor ability and lack of talent, and are despairing a little at the upward tendency for this to happen.
Take the Twilight novels, which were basically fanservice about one man's stomach and 'perfectperfectperfect face like a statue' spread over 400 pages through 3 books. Universally hated in the Western world, except for the millions of frustrated preteen girls, lonely housewives and insane cat ladies who sustain that disgusting juggernaut. We hate things like that. But since it sells, we're going to see more of it.
Toad in the Hole is a traditional British comfort food: You make a batter without butter, wrap sausages in bacon and lay them in a roasting dish with the batter (You boil some oil in the dish and then put the batter in to precook the bottom). You serve it with Onion Gravy, it's a little unhealthy but damned good to eat on a cold winter's night.
British food is abysmal. Well, not so interesting, anyway. A bit of meat, some vegetables, and one of about seven different types of potato. That's why you never see 'British Restaurants' anywhere. I guess pubs count, though.
>>888 How would you feel if New Zealand became one of Australia's territories? We've heard a bit about the polls over here...
That's lower class English cuisine, though. The better stuff tends to have a helluva lot more flavour.
As for becoming one of Australia's Territories, there's a lot of sense in doing it, but... Well, it's like virgin nervousness. Someone gains something, someone losses something, Someone gloats, the other one just curls up in the sheets. It's going to happen anyway, but New Zealand's a girl, Always putting it off because she's 'not ready'.
>>893 Still can't really think of any classy English food. Technically, casseroles and hotpots and things are peasant food, though not so much eaten by the lower classes these days who tend to go for fast, cheap and easy food. Was in a supermarket last night collecting ingredients to make a delicious tagliatelle carbonara, and the guy in front at the checkout had a can of sausage and mash (together!) and some tuna. Meals at schools are very British too. Processed turkey in dinosaur shapes, ploughman's lunch, mushy peas, mashed potato, tinned spaghetti boolognese... followed by desserts of jam roly-poly, spotted dick (one council had its name changed to 'Spotted Richard', but changed it back after complaints), chocolate tart... with disgustingly lumpy custard. Everything had custard.
I wonder how many people overseas are luriking in this thread. When one seem to be gone, another appears as if he/she fills the gap. A short file ago, there was a person from Kentucky, US and once he/she seem to be gone, then a person from NZ appears.
Even though foreigners who often post here changes as this thread goes on, one thing never changes, which is this thread's anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8XSGqO7vwk

>>926 >I sound British to Kiwis, American to the British, and Canadian to everyone else.
Igirisu-jin-san mentioned the same thing about his accent. Being a secret agent, I guess he had to master different accents to conceal his nationality. He even had a Russian girl friend to learn Russian accent, lol~
Igirisu-jin's clourful accent comes from his upbringing, raised in different countries. If he had ben raised sololy in UK, his accent would have been British.
Wonder why this Kiwi guy's accent is recognized differently by different people in origin. Just curious but don't mean to put my nose into the reason. Maybe he has colorful upbringing or maybe not.
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.

>>946 I have something to ask. The mask is familiar to me. The same masks are worn by protesters against Church of Scientology, whose activities against the cult aren't known at all in Japan. Do the masks they wear originate in this movie? What's the title of the movie? What is the movie about? Why do the protesters connect themselves to the masked man if the protesters and the masked man are relevant.
Some google searched tells me it's title is "V for Vendetta" and it is originated in a comic book. If you know something about a connection between the mask/movie and the protesters against the cult, fill me in. Thank you.
>>948 It's hard to sum up in just a few sentences, but basically the mask in the movie is a Guy Fawkes mask (look him up on Wikipedia). In V for Vendetta, the people who wear the masks are fighting against an oppressive government. The Anonymous people who hate Scientology probably use those masks because they feel that it's an evil and oppressive organization. I'm not sure if there are other examples of protesters or revolutionaries wearing Guy Fawkes masks, but it would probably be interesting to research.

A load of people get together and burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire, and set off fireworks.
I don't really know if we're celebrating that he was caught, or that he almost managed to do it.
