Hey!!! you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis,
Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers,
Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters,
Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese
who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, and cunning
linguists. And let's hope the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!

Here is the place to have a ball!!!!!

Aren't you being selfish and asking too much of your partner? Show some consideration for him/her.
---------------------------
In this case, the questioner thinks he or she "is" selfish.

Are you not feeling well?

In this case, the questioner thnks he or she "is not" feeling well.

Am I right?
So, I guessed it was too abstruct and assertive
to say "aren't you" and "are you not" means the same.

Do you know that caffein weaken your bone?
It has been reported that caffein increases egestion of calcium, so
it is advisable that you limit the amount of coffee to approx. 2 cups a day.

Having said that though, I love coffee, too, and I don't have a large coffee cup.
What shoud I do?

They also say that salt weaken your bone, too.
But I like salt.

Life is tough.

caffeine is a terrible substance, it destroys your sleep cycle too.
I'd say if you need tostayawake, opt for a 20 min microsleep, it
would boost your concentration.
For refreshment, drink freshly pressed carrot-orange juice.
Organic, if you can afford it.
It refreshes and sharpens your cognition.
16名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/13(日) 10:40:59
Yeah.
A 20 min microsleep(during lunchtime break) brings me refreshment.
To be candid with you, the time was suppose to be my English studying time but ended up to be nap time.
Eveytime I started studying English, I become sleepy even if I drink a cup of coffee in advance.

Strangely enough, while chatting with you in English, I can stay awake.
17名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/13(日) 10:57:52
Caffein becomes active approx. 15 min. after you take it.
So drink coffee or tea, go into microsleep mode, then caffein will
wake you up in 15 min.
That's said to be the best way to take a nap especially at work.
18名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/13(日) 11:03:33

I've stopped drinking coffee some time ago...
Now I usually drink mate or green/black tea for caffeine, sometimes cola.
Right now though, I hardly drink anything with caffeine at all, since
it's not really necessary; I've graduated from school in June and uni doesn't
start until October for me. No need to upset my sleep cycle and feed
my caffeine addiction just for self-study.

Do you know Taguchi (23) from KAT-TUN and Komine (26) are going out together?
Age difference is 6 years. Taguchi is less popular among girls than
Kamenashi so the news isn't widesread overseas?

Their date was shot by a paparazzi photographer in 2007 for the first time and a few private
photo was leaked by someone on the Internet.
Up intil now, they seem to go out. One of the article of Yahoo news today is
they came back from a private trip from Hawaii. They departed to Hawaii on
the same flight but came back on different flight from each other to avoid
paparazzi photographers, according to the news.

Leaked photo: http://www.cyzo.com/images/taguchi_komine.jpg
These photos were originally uploaded by their friends on Facebook and
widespread.

16>> learning to speak a foreign language is demanding. Think of language as
water and you need to immerse yourself and swim, your whole being in it.

That is why learning a language in a class does not fully engage your
learning instinct. In a class, you are trying to swim but all you can
do is drink water. That is where media comes in. You can leave streaming
english sites on when you are in the hose, sing in English, watch English
films with subtitles. Engage yourself in English , if possible, make
English speaking friends. it will keep your mind aware and you wont need

I'm so thrilled to see the coffee topic thriving with lots of people in here.<3
Just thought I'd add this for those who haven't developed tolerance to caffeine yet:
It is recommended to start off with decaf if you want to switch from cola or tea to coffee,
and you may want to take a sufficient amount of calcium supplement or milk
on a daily basis, along with a short nap combined with enough exercise to keep up
the energy level as well as not to disturb your regular sleep cycle.
Though more importantly, don't max out your caffeine limit, and enjoy your coffee life!!

Disappearing is not related to whether one's life is really good or bad.
That sort of idea is either too heroic and selfish.
When you detach yourself from that state of mind, when the futileness
of everything sets in, you can enjoy life as it is a lot more.
Even if your life is in turmoil.

Through your posts, I get an impression that your real life is good(not miserable regarding job and all that...)
you are friendly and nice.

I don't think anyone whose real life is good has to disappear.

It's not clear yet the Yale student disappeared on her own will or were kidnapped or
anything. She is expecting to get married soon, which means her real life is very good,
I don't think she disappeared on her own will. Just my opinion.

Why do you love ugly japanese boys, among others, kamenashi?
He is critisized by even japanese for his ugliness and excessive
, unproportional exposurses on TV.

failure, failure and failure.

Staunch may have been strange.
I just wanted to say something like strong.

Kamenashi may look like anime characters. His hair style and
make-up may are made to resemble them. and long horse-like face.
These characteristics may attract occidental otaku people.

I don't like kimtaku and kusanagi. But their popularity
are proven by high ratings of their dramas.
Dramas in which kamenashi played protagonists have been
very poor in popularity and ratings. Audience ratings are exceptionally low.
It's wonder why he could keep playing a main role one after another.
Its rumoured that there were strong pushs from his talent agency
and an executive.
But at last he has not been given another chance for a long period.
Unfortunately ka-tun is not a successful group compared to smap, V6, arashi
and tokio.
kamenashi's rival akanisi? has not gotten nationwide popularity too.
I guess he has more antis than fans.

Johnnys failed to sell kamenashi as ka-tun's core member.
So Johhny's tried two star system, kamenashi and akanishi.
So far they have not succeeded much.

American don't value the number of single hits. They like something big
and flamboyant such as a big home run.

The don't appreciate the art of producing single hits. Use this anology to
think about American way of thinking. They produce big gas gazzlers. They look
powerful and flamboyant. Japanese car manufacturer is proud of their cars

don't look flamboyant.

All of the stage names evaporate
and it's just a blood-flushed and heart-rushing race
either to kick off too soon or stick around too late
to be far too dear or too cut-rate
hold my hand again
like at the lake

hold that mirror, babe
up to my face
hear the whipoorwhill
am i breathing still?

so take this thin broken down circus clown reject and give her the name of a queen
don't I know her from the mezzanine?
she didn't look like no princess to me
but with the proper words bestowed
and with her morning shoot
her evening clothes
don't call her a prostitute
she ain't one of those-
just call her a proper little state
come unfroze

Hatoyama appointed Nagatsuma as health, labor and welfare minister.

Isn't he a former journalist?
So he has a sharp nose for scandals. And all he did was questioning questioning and questioning in the Diet.
In my eyes, he is a one-pattern-person like エドはるみ.
I doubt, he is capable enough to deal with complicated political issues.

what does "put your panties in a bunch" mean?
I mean, plz someone express it in more plain English.
198名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/16(水) 23:15:38
LOL. Put your panties in a bunch is an expression Americans use that means
don't get so upset/angry. It's a little stronger than the phrase "don't worry"
and is usually expressed in a more negative way.

You must be trolling, but I might as well challenge.

He does ask very sharp questions at the Diet sessions and those questions are
all based on facts.
His strength is that he is capable of digging very into problems and find out the
truth.
He has been grilling the Kasumigaseki bureaucrats to discolse intentionally
hidden documents and never let them get away with hiding the inconvenient facts.
Now that he has the cabinet seat, he will use all it takes to, what we call,
lance the boil of political corruption.

While I was surfing the net, I bumped into two fabulous website sites run
by the same woman. She's Japanese, who has spent most of her life overseas
and is a great cook. She's not a pro cook but seems like to have deep knowledge about
Japanese dishes and bento box lunch.

If you're interested in Japanese dishes and bento box lunch, the sites are the
place to go. The links are to "about" pages of the both sites.
You can read her posts on the blogs and learn a lot about Japanese dishes
and bento box lunch.

One of the sites has a blog entry about how to make takoyaki.
ttp://www.justhungry.com/takoyaki

You can type a word in the search box at the top of the page and
you are shown links to relevant pages. I typed "natto" there and
lots of links to her blog entries came up.

This is one of the entries regarding natto.

He repeated saying NO GOOD.

But now he's in the post in charge of CREATING GOOD THINGS(good society)'.
We will see how things go.

Unlike other developed nations, notorious bureaucracy exists in Japan.
We must say good-bye to the present bureaucracy-led system.

Yesterday, Nori-P (Rari-P) was released on bail and made an apology
at a press conference. Surprisingly enough, lots of people across Japan
sympathized with Nori-P despite her drug abuse, wishing her a good
comeback for the tears she shed there. This is not even remotely fair,
but you can safely assume that if you are cute enough you should be
able to get away with stuff like this.
And, with bodyguards like these two yakuza, you would have nothing to fear, too.

The media coverage is just too sympathetic with that criminal.
Being a woman myself, I can tell her tears were fake.
She didn't sound appologetic at all.
She even sounded like she might have a chance to come back to the
entertainment world.
I think she shed tears only to gain smpathy from the viewers, especially
from male.
I sincerely hope that the press conferece would be her once in a lifetime
and the last performance, acting as a miserable, poor defendant.
The whole drug incident and the following media coverage is just so disturbing.
It's just the punk couple pickled with drugs.
Nothing more, nothing less.

only boots sales of the CD, and use the entire air time for more meaningful things!

I think she is mistaken the severity of her crime for what Kusanagi Tsuyoshi did
a while ago.
The general public sympathized with Kusanagi for what he did, because
any one of us could have done something very similar, that is why
he came back to the entertainment business right after the press conference.

But in her case, there is no way the general public can relate to what she did.
She seems to be underestimating her crime and does not seem to have true remorse.

IMO, what the instructor looks like shouldn't matter. If you only want to
learn English to meet women, that's wrong. Any girl who speaks English
will be VERY offended and your strategy will backfire. If you're looking
for a good teacher, make sure to ask them what certifications they have.
A lot of English teachers in Japan don't even have a degree in English or

you sign up for any classes.

When almost all Japanese people learn English for 6 years, how can they
say they are just a beginner or things like that? It's just they didn't study hard at all

you're supposed to learn at that time, I'd say there are no possibilities you'll be fluent in

I think some people find it insulting because of what it implies when translated back to English.
Gaikokujin = (literally)outside-country-person
That doesn't sound bad, right? Because it's true. A foreigner is from outside of the country.
Gaijin = Outsider
That has a bit of a bad connotation when translated back to English. "Outsider" usually gives off the feeling of "you're not welcome here" to english speakers.
So I guess I can see where they're coming from.

I don't mind being called Gaijin. :)
Although no one ever called me one to my face while I was in Japan.lol.
334名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/20(日) 11:14:14
Some foreigners here in Japan do not like the word Gaijin because it translates
into "outsider". For some people who have lived here for many years and
married Japanese people, this feels very hurtful. This is why they dislike being
called gaijin. Personally, I don't care if people call me gaijin or not while I
live here. Perhaps I would feel differently if I chose to spend the rest
of my life here. There are some things about living here that I do
not like, but being called a silly name is not one of them.

Thanx for the post.

It reminds me of the usage of 'stranger' in English.
English speakers call the other person 'stranger' sometimes as in

The same could be done with Gaijin.

337名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/20(日) 11:24:33
Japan is often called "a closed-off village society".
So 外人 implys よそ者(outsider of the village).
Village folk are kind of harsh with outsiders.

Japanese people may be friendly to Gaijin.
But when it comes to 「国益(national interests)」, Japanese put their interests above the friendship.
Japanese even apply double standards on foreigners.
The double standards are hard to die because it's invisible.

I'm a Japanese, however, I feel like I'm a foreigner in Japan.
Many Japanese call me odd-ball. I can't blend in the village.(泣)

340名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/20(日) 11:32:55
The term 'gaijin' has a good connotation as well depending on the context it's used in.
For instance, 外人っぽい, which could be translated as "look like a gaijin", usually means
someone looks exotic in a positive way. Of course, this only applies to Japanese people,
and you can use it sarcastically to describe someone unusually unattractive but that's another story..
Anyway, it is based on a positive stereotype of gaijin being good looking.
341keira:2009/09/20(日) 11:35:00
>>334
That's also true...
Maybe even if a gaikokujin has lived in japan for 10+ years and speaks fluently and has a japanese family...
If he walks into a place where people don't know him, he will still will be considered gaijin. >.>

>>335
Hai, hisashiburi :)
'Stranger' is a similar example, but it doesn't really have the negative meaning anymore. xD
Calling someone a 'stranger' isn't rude, but it's considered a compliment if someone says 'you're no stranger to us!'

371名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/20(日) 13:10:46
>>369
In a way, yes, but it doesn't imply that they don't belong in the culture. "Asian" has no association with the word "outsider".
It just means that they're Canadians whose background is Asian. It would usually only be used to describe appearance for clarification.
And Canada houses many ethnicities, so I'm often referred to as the "white" guy. Doesn't mean I'm an outsider... means I fit the stereotypical characteristics of a white guy.

Naming a person's background is a lot different than calling them a foreigner... But I'm rambling.

I think you've raised a very good point!

The word Gaijin has lost the sense or meaning of 'outsiders'.
It just means that the person doesn't have a look of a Japanese person.
So the word only refers to the external appearance of the person.
I think that is why, sometimes we don't call Koreans or Chinese, Gaijin,
because they look similar to us.
In fact, when we think of a word Gaijin, we usually imaging someone white people,

That's a fair point. And I think it makes me realize just how badly some words get lost in translation.
And I think it brings us back to the whole idea of misunderstanding.
Like you said, it has lost the "outsider" meaning to the Japanese... but perhaps not to the Westerners themselves.
Perhaps people could just be a little more conservative with the usage of the word.
But there are two sides to the coin. Foreigners, me in particular, perhaps shouldn't be as sensitive to it, lol.

Thank you for the explanation, by the way.

As a person, I want to be nice and I want to be a responsible adult in society, which
I'm not completely sure I act like that.
I've been given special treatment from people around me because I'm a person
in show business. I don't like being treated that way. I didn't want to
be spoiled because of the special treatment. I used to counter those special
treatment with insolent attitude.

Now that I'm grown-up, I know the special treatments comes from people's

I want to show difiance toward such special treatments even if I loook

Let me add that Tako is also a symbol of stupidity.
"黙れタコ" or "うるせータコ" is a common phrase that is often used to curse someone out, which means "Shut up, Tako."
Considering that Tako's don't speak in general, however, it's kind of weird to utter these, but you'll get the idea.

TOEIC explicitly defines what level of Tako you are currently at in terms of English proficiency.

to test on things like that.
It's much better to test someone on an "English proficiency" that does
not exist.

Now that I'm back in college, I can post to these threads again.

I'm taking a chemistry course, a linguistics course, and a Japanese
course. The last one is the one everyone's the most interested in,
right? Ha ha.

The teacher's an old man with white hair and a thick accent. He's very
fun. He's got a weird energy to him. It's kind of hard to describe.

He started out class by asking us if we knew any Japanese words.
Immediately, someone at the other side of the class yelled out,
"Nintendo!" Everyone laughed. Later, he wrote the actual symbols for
Nintendo on the board, and you could feel a ripple of "oh no" run
through the room. The relief once he told us we didn't have to
remember that just yet was palpable.

Once he started teaching us, though, he hammered stuff into our heads
really fast. Hito, yama, kawa, te, mizu, hi, tsuki, ki, moto. Jin,
san, sen, shu, sui, ni/nichi, gatsu/getsu, moku, hon. Bam bam bam. My
head's still spinning. He said we didn't really have to remember any
of this, either--he was just explaining that there were Japanese and
Chinese pronunciations--but still, it's making the class look kind of
daunting.

To give that sort of response you must have had very negative views of the elderly.
Besides this woman is 43, not even old, she is middle aged. How people expect a celebrity to
stay the same is what exactly drives the cosmetics industry. Don't you think it is cruel?
I think she is human like everyone else, not a vampire so she should be allowed to age and sag.

I'd like to write about Japanese culture, however, it's very complicated topic.
We Japanese can communicate each other almost without words.
So it's hard to explain the culture to foreign people.
534名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/22(火) 20:41:05
Yes, that is true.
Still, it must be very sad to be unable to communicate.
I think that the more difficult something is, the greater the joy will
be when you have succeeded.
So, if you truly wish to communicate with foreigners in Japan, do not
give up.
535名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/22(火) 20:55:20
Recently, I wrote something about Tako.
It's sad Tako is called devil fish in English speaking countries.

I'm going to study hard but I'm a regular worker so I don't have much time to study English.
I wish I could be a fluent English speaker as to be able to explain my culture easily.
536名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/22(火) 21:04:39
That's true. Japanese companies are quite different from American.
Unfortunately, it is going to be very difficult to become a fluent
English speaker. However, if you never try, it is certain you will fail.
Therefore, if you really do want to study English, you must devote your
free time to it. Try to make friends with foreigners, if you live in Tokyo,
this should be easy. Come to 2chan and ask questions of native speakers,
buy English music and sing along to the words. All of these methods
can be used in your spare time and they can improve your English immensely.
537名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/22(火) 21:08:56
I must admit, I live in Tokyo and have never eaten Tako fish. Does it

tuna and octopus.

One reason is because Japanese has 5 vowels but English has about 15 of them,
which makes you guys easy to pronounce Japanese words.
However there are certain combinations of words that are difficult for
English speaking pepole to pronounce, such as Kitte (stamps), Denenchoufu (a name
of a place), etc.

are more lively.

A large number of Japanese girls are interested in Korean guys.
Korean guys are really popular among Japanese girls. They get enthusiastic when
they see Korean guys. According to the news, lots and lots of Japanese girls bother
to go to the airport just to meet Korean guys. Yes, Korean guys are popular in Japan as well.
Like I said, Korean guys are amazingly popular among girls all around the world, which includes
Japan also.

I think Japanese society in general value aging less, especially women's aging,
than western societies.
Kyon2 looks a lot younger than average women around her age. (almost all actors
and singers in show business do, by the way.) But as a person who knows how she looked
when she was in her prime as an idol singer, I got the impression as I wrote.
I heard every actors, especially old female ones are afraid of digital broadcast because
different from analog braodcast, the images shown on TV is much clearer.
I'm amazed by the technology.

Stew gets delicious if you simmer it for a long time while fresh salad's

However, from an outsider's perspective, I think older women in Japan

They seem to get a little more respect and they are certainly treated
less like sexual objects. In this respect, I would prefer to be an
older woman in Japan.

I have to agree with you about the new digital broadcast, the images are
a little frightening. The clarity is amazing, you notice every wrinkle,

American actors are also terrified of this, so recently there have been

not a typo. That was your opinion, and it is rude and hurtful.

Hi, actually I disagree that sarcasm is found only a western humour.
The world is a huge place and almost every nation has sarcasm embedded
in their humour.

Illaugh when they say such and such is so English, so and so qualities are so British etc
cause as a foreigner living in the UK, I know it is not like so. People would like to think
that somwehow a very human trait becomes a national trait and makes them stand out...

Re: sarcastic remark on man rolling on the floor being erotic, I find it ironic that
everywhere in the world there are strip shows, pole dances/lap dances,
dedicated to men's viewing pleasure and nobody makes sarcastic remarks about them.

Re: Korean dorama, guys etc, I wrote about this before but,
Korean drama series are SOOO uncool. I forced myself to watch a few and
took me while to warm to the characters. Why are the actresses so shrill,
acting so immature and shallow, why is the subject matter all about
superficial emotions and materialism? In the dialogues people seem
to have nerve management issues. They argue a lot and sulk a lot.
When they want something they insist so much that switch off.
They don't allow space between dialogues.
Japanese dramas have such a minimalist balance, visually and emotionally,
some scripts are very intelligent, it is a pleasure watching them.
Look at the Korean drama titles, they are flashy, everyone grins on the drama poster, titles like
princess this, love so and so, we got married , richest man
such and such...so unoriginal. Sorry Korean guy-san. I like some of DBSK songs though :-D

Girls all around the world have a lot of interest in Korean guys because korean guys are smart, manly, sexy and really attractive.
Everywhere on the Internet such as a forum, some people post a question what nationality you like and the answer is always Korean men,
saying Korean guys are hot and sexy. That's all true. They are surely hot. That's why Korean guys are amazingly popular among girls
all over the world. White girls describe Korean guys as white in Asia because they know how to deal with girls properly - Korean guys are
romantic and gentle. I guess that's another reason Korean guys are popular among white girls as well even though Korean guys are asian.
I'm proud of it. :)

I think Korean guys are so honest and straight-forward about their popularity that some people like you
feel they're stupid but it's quite unfair. There are cultural differences between different countries and
we should respect them each other. Korean guys are honest and straight-forward, and that's what makes them
sexy and appealing to girls too. If you are the kind of person who can't respect such diffence, then you shouldn't
complain even if we don't pay respect to you. That's all.

Korean guys are really popular among girls all over the world. This is partly
because of the power of Korean Wave. The Wave mainly means Korean dramas, K pops, and Korean cuisine.
It's very strategic, you know. Many girls watch Korean dramas and in those dramas hear K-pops and get to
know Korean cuisines. In other words, starting with Korean dramas, those girls have started to get interested in
the whole Korean culture. What it boils down to is that they fall in love with Korea. Since they are girls, naturally
they are interested in Korean guys. They adore Korean guys. That's why Korean guys are popular among girls all over the world.
One more interesting thing is that those girls want to get cool Samsung IT products as well. Now Samsung has almost dominated the
electro-gadget market such as in America, Asia, and Europe. For the past 10 years, things have changed completely.

According to the recent survey conducted in Korea, about 60 percent of the Korean people think Korea's become an advanced nation
mainly due to its great and strong growth of the IT industry. Korea's considered the best IT nation in the world. Korea has Samsung,
LG, and Hyundai as its great asset. In particular, Samsung already surpassed Intel, one of the best American companies, and achieved
the worldwide fame. That's partly contributed to the popularity of Korean guys among girls all over the world.
Those girls want to get married to Korean guys because a) Korea is economically strong, and b) Korean guys are really hot and sexy.
To put it another way, Korean guys have what girls ask for men. I think the popularity will keep skyrocketing.
I'm proud of it. :)

Someone asked me how my Chinese was going a long time ago. Here is my belated response.

It is very hard to learn in that the accents are very difficult to remember. Other than that,
it is very simple and a ton of fun to learn. One of the sweetest things about it is noticing all
the similarities between Japanese and Chinese. It's fun to see the Chinese equivalent of a Japanese
word and to see how the Chinese still attach a hanzi/kanji to it while the Japanese seem to only
use hiragana. The best example I can think of right now is the Chinese 呢 (ne) and the Japanese
ね particle. They both seem to mean the same thing, in general. (呢 is meant to be a particle used
to either emphasize something or to ask a question when the context is already understood and thus
not repeated by replaced by 呢).

Chinese is also very simple grammatically. It uses subject-verb-object and also has some grammar points
which are similar to Japanese. So I can understand a lot of the grammar through mere intuition.

Also, I'm starting to notice myself unconsciously understanding what Japanese speakers are saying when
I hear them speak Japanese, rather than having to think about it. I wouldn't say I'm getting fluent or even
proficient, but it is a lot of fun to be getting some practical use out of all that time I spent learning it.
And I'm sure the utility will only increase over time.

Oh, hi, by the way.

If you were a real Korean, you would provide more detailed information about Korea, or something we don't know, intentionally or unintentionally.
And I very much doubt that you've never been to Korea. You don’t seem to know what Korean dramas are exactly popular, and what Korean cuisine is exactly delicious.
But since your writing seems to be grammatically right, I think it's worth reading for those learning English. Keep posting.

I'm 100% sure New Yorkers are the people who love to try anything new if that's worth it, and
they finally met a traditional Korean cuisine before they got into it. They can't resist spicy food any more.
Korea taught them how very good it tastes. Korean food has been accepted globaly as healthful and nutritionally valued food.
It's not too much to say New Yorkers can live healthy lives thanks to Korea.
I'm proud of it. :)

It is crucial to foster a contempt for baseness. There
is no law stating that committing a base act is wrong,
but that only makes it all the more important. In order
to foster the proper contempt for baseness, we need
to revive the Confucian family ties that are part and
parcel of the samurai spirit. Japanese children never did
any shoplifting when these still flourished.

There is no concept of "surrender" in The Imperial Japanese army.
And the army(navy) worked out KAMIKAZE special attack force, as you know.
You Westerners must call it stupid.

The US army was much stronger than The Imperial Japanese army.

Our army was WEAK BUT NEVER SURRENDER.
That's why I said " completely different from Western armies".

what 727 explains is the japanese seniority system in sports or martial arts is
based on that of the japanese army or the military caste system, doesnt it?
but such relationship used to be very common in the armies of western countries too.
rank and filers had to obey everything COs commanded. and unfortunately, there's been little change in the armies...

now, what's the influence of the difference written in 754 on the japanese seniority system?

The Japanese have been very much depending on seniority system.
For one thing, 体育会系 spirit greatly contributed to the post-war economical prosperity of Japan.
Jananese corporations used to welcome 体育会系 recruits even if they were a little studid, because they never give up in any situation.

Having lost the war, the Japanese transformed "zombie of The Imperial army" into 体育会系 spirit and then won the industrial warfare against the U.S. eventually.

Nowadays, the younger generation criticizes the dark side of 体育会系 spirit.
I admit 体育会系 spirit is out of date and losing power.
However, the spirit never die, for it still has a light side.

I think what makes racism in Japan so much worse than in other countries
is the fact that no one here bothers to speak up about it. Just like
chikan in the train, most Japanese people don't want to do or say
anything to stop it. They are afraid of being involved in this situation.

802名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 05:05:18
It seems to me that the examples presented in the blog is not exactly the kind
which should be called racism. japanese people simply show their respect to people that
belong to other races. They just want to be like them, that's all. I think there's a notion
that they feel inferior to foreign people behind it. Their longings for something foreign
is not seen in other cultures. They get a face job to make them look like whites, for example.
803名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 05:21:41
These attitudes are racist.
While there is nothing wrong with admiring another culture, this kind of
imitation IS racist.
As the author pointed out, ignorance is no excuse.
804名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 05:31:17

The time is now 21:39 in the UK. I feel like telling you guys a few real life stories.

The trap and the lifeforce

The first one happened yesterday. I was on my way out from where I l
ived, I was about to unchain my bike when I realised I forgot
something. As I was about to re enter the house I heard this
very loud buzzing sound. I lifted my head up to see a spider web
half a metre ahead. A large black fly was trapped in the middle, and
a a thick bellied spider with yellow-brown patterns, was clutching it.
The fly was flapping its wings in frenzy, it was like a car wheel
trapped in mud going round and round. The spider was not budging at
all. it was quietly hugging the fly. I approached the duo and at one
point, I could say that the fly had full confidence that it would
free itself from the deadly clasp of the spider. He was giving his
everything, all the energy he ever had for its freedom. At one
point i was so impressed bythe spider's struggle that I sought a
little twig to destroy the evil spider's murder attempt. However I
hesitated. I thought thatI was interfering with nature's work. Still
I almost heard the fly screaming " help! I am trying very hard. go get that
twig and help me!" I looked down and picked up a twig. However, I
thought: If i released the fly, would it survive? The spider had probably
delivered a toxic chemical into the fly's body and slowly,
the fly was to be paralysed. The fly was quieter know and a few
more attempts, it would slowly slip into darkness.
806名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 05:51:12
I nudged the coalesced duo a few times with the twig, however the
spider did not budge at all. The fly was still moving its legs but
his wings were definitely paralysed. And now the spider started
slowly to weave a cocoon around the fly, which was still concious.
I could almost hear the fly say, "is this it? this.... this can't
be true. "It kept trying with all the force he could gather.
I could almost feel the life force of this being.
I felt sad, but marvelled at the ruthlessness of the spider.
It had this "I have the complete rights to this
body" kind of attitude. I watched both in amazement for a while
and dropped the twig off from my hand.
A few seconds later I felt embarassed to be a witness to this
lesson in the ways of nature. I felt like a voyeour. I went back in the
house to pick up the forgotten item. When I returned the fly was
motionless and its head was submerged in a cocoon. The spider was
slowly completing the weaving with knowing body gestures.

I was in deep thought about life, death, the whole transition process,
the billions of years of this planet, of change, of the whole delusion
of what we think life is. I thought time and time again.
807名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 05:53:41
The next day, the cocooned white corpse of the fly looked smaller, and black.
Maybe the spider had eaten it. The transformation was so shocking.
I then noticed something even more shocking. There was a parallel spider web
only half an arm's length from the web with the cocoon. and the middle
of it was perfectly aligned with this one. An exactly similar type of
thick bellied spider was stationed right in the middle.

It was a perfectly laid trap. I looked up and down to see what made
these two spiders collaborate. Was there a fruit tree that attracted
flies? Whatwas the secret of thi strap? Once a fly forced to fly
through that air space there was no way he wouldn't be caught in one
or the other. It was a very efficient way of collecting food.

I could never satisfy my curiosity.
808名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 06:12:06
There is NO respect when it comes to xenophobia. Whether it's well meaning or not, some Japanese just can't get over physical and cultural differences.
Gaijin are never on the same level as Japanese, they're always either put down upon or placed on a pedestal.
But the worst part is that most fail to recognize it as a problem.
This xenophobia ranges from large scale things like the fingerprinting of foreigners, to small social problems like the assumption that all foreigners can't speak Japanese.

And ignorance isn't an excuse, it's just another problem.
809名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 06:19:03
The fingerprinting doesn't really bother me, I'm pretty sure America
does the same thing. It's really the little stuff, people touching my
hair because it's blonde, being amazed that I can use chopsticks (sugoi!

other little examples of racist ignorance that bother me.
It could be worse (I could be black), but why can't it be better?

Sometimes you see a fly or other insects trapped in a spider's web.
I think when kids find a insect trapped in a web, most of them try to
rescue them.

I'm an adult but I can't help but rescue trapped insects although even if
they are free from a web, sticky substance glued to its body may prevent it from
living longer.

Yeah, as you say, help from a human may be against nature's work but
human is a part of nature so why not. I'd try to help a trapped insect
if no one is around watching me. If anyone is around, I won't because it's
a shame a grown-up is swinging around a twig in the air.

What do you guys think about this song? It's about being Japanese and fapping mixed together.
Sure, looks like an old song, but still it's not banned or anything and a lot of people sing to it.
836名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 12:55:14
I think it's great that Japanese think black people are cool.
I only wish this coolness meant that they would study the history and
try to show a little more respect, especially to the African Americans
who live here. That was the point I was trying to make. Being a
foreigner here can be a difficult experience, for foreigners of all
colors, but it doesn't have to be that way.
837名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 13:06:15

Wow, i can't say I'm really surprised, since this video is from 20 or
30 years ago. Back then, most people had no clue about Japan other
than samurai swords and geisha. Still, the creepy misogyny and
obvious Asian fetish are jarring and painful to watch.
The part where he's waving the sword around and she's just standing in
the right hand corner of the frame was especially disgusting to watch.

Still, I take comfort in the fact that most people now know that this
kind of stuff is offensive.
The Gosperats are a current group and as the author demonstrated, no
one sees them as offensive. There is a difference there.

840名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 13:18:12
It's old, but it was used in the movie Charlie's Angels recently, and you can see people singing it on Youtube and the likes "now".
I guess that shows not too many people take it as offensive, unless they're Japanese.
841名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 13:25:24
Well, I'm not Japanese, and I thought the video was a little creepy.
Not blackface racism, and I think the actors were Asian, but it had a little
misogynistic me white man you pretty geisha girl feel to it that was
painful to watch.
842名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 13:29:11
The song itself isn't really that offensive anyway, since it's about
masturbation.
843名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 13:33:37
Do you really think so? What they mean in the lyrics is he's masturbating like crazy, thus turning Japanese though.

explain the line "turning Japanese", ok? When he orgasms, he makes a
face, he squints his eyes. So....without being too embarrassing, there's
your explanation.
All that aside, it's from 2-3 decades ago and this blackface stuff is
happening in Japan right now.

Hmmm, well, suppose you are black and have got offended by some doo-wop group, I could understand where you're coming from,
since you'd have a valid reason to be. Perhaps though, you might as well go back to your country immidiately and start
a campaign against Hollywood and the music industry that keep discharging negative stereotypes of African Americans through
violent movies and gangsta rap that some Japanese teens are drooling over right now.
That's a bit more of a serious issue, to be honest with you, but whatever.

You're completely right, every black person who lives in Japan should
just quit their jobs, spouses, lives and campaign against Hollywood.
Dude, are you joking?
Look, Hollywood puts out a lot of completely inaccurate portrayals of
everyone (Sex and the City, Heroes, etc.)
What the clip showed you is pure BLACKFACE, something Hollywood hasn't
shown in decades. This is produced in Japan, and if you can't see how
wrong it is, you're the one with the problem, not Hollywood or rap.
851名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 14:17:28

NOIRIAKI is the one and only rapper the essence of rap.
853名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 14:29:15
My point will have gotten across when Japanese people understand why
blackface is bad. Not just blackface, but all those other ways foreigners
here are dehumanized and treated. Blackface is only the most egregious
example of the way foreigners are demeaned here.
Please don't misunderstand, Japan is a wonderful country, but I really
wish some people would think before they act. Some of the things I've
experienced here I really couldn't have expected.
854名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 14:43:38
Then I think you should state the historical backgrounds of not showing blackfaces in the show industry anymore,

Otherwise, people wouldn't undersdtand why.

African-Americans? Why do you think it would be offensive?
858名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 14:59:38
It's simple. If you don't feel comfortable in Japan, go back to your country.
If you have a family here, like having gotten married with Japanese spouse
having a kid, things aren't so simple, though.

In case of the African American man, he just wanted a turnaround in his life and with no specific reason, he came to Japan.
Maybe he just think he can earn easy money by teaching English.
He wrote he wants to be a writer. You can be a writer in America or wherever you like.
He doesn't have a family here right? Then go back to America. It's so simple.

>So I'm just gonna punch the next Japanese immigrant

Unlike Africans, Japanese do not spread out like a plague into every other
country on earth and demand those countries give them preferential treatment.

Nor do they engage in criminal activities to the same extent blacks do.

Niggers claim that their shitty existence in Africa is whitey's fault.
Whitey stole all the natural resources of the land (as if it's possible
to 'steal' the earth's ability to grow crops) and split the continent up
to cause niggers to fight each other all the time.

Even on their own continent, niggers blame whitey for their failures.
But the fact is that no matter what situation niggers are in or what
part of the world they are in, niggers consistently fail. This fact
has remained true throughout history and is evident by the present-day
status quo. No matter where they are or what their present condition,
niggers will invariably FAIL. They do not improve or advance at all.
In fact, when niggers get together they destroy and denigrate and they
do not stop until they have beaten down their existence to the point
where they are crawling in the dirt and living in crude straw huts.

Can anyone reading this prove me wrong? Can anyone show me ONE single area in the world or in history where a dominant population of niggers have created a living situation that is better than a toilet bowl? No.

This nonsense that niggers are equal is a LIE.

If I ever went to Japan. I would not expect to be treated as Japanese.

This is the height of absurdity. I would be a foreigner in a country, analagous

It would be rude for a guest to say to his host 'treat me like you treat your own
family, let me sleep in your house, cook me dinner when I want, make my breakfast,
clean my clothes.'

Races exist, they are not just 'social constructs', people have a clannish mentality.

Actually it's a pretty poor analogy, one implies breaking the law. What would
be termed Grevious Bodily Harm or Assault depending on where you live, which would
render the perpetrator of it a criminal who is liable for criminal charges.

What you are talking about has nothing to do with criminality whatsoever. It's a piss
poor analogy. Go back to your sociology class or something.

The US is a 'multicultural' country meaning it is largely ghettoized and racially
divided. Generally speaking neighbourhoods are become ever more demarcated along
racial boundaries. Simply speaking, there is no comparison to the US because Japan is
a homogenous society with a sense of national community that the US does not have. Mexicans
and Blacks and Chinese do not have to integrate into society because they can and do choose
to live amongst their own kind by and large.

>one should try and overcome it

How do you plan on 'overcoming' it? White people make it tacitly clear they
do not want to live around black people with the phenomenon known as white
flight, which is actually increasing in urban areas. Black Senators in the US
vote along racial lines, the NAACP lobbies on behalf of black people, as do various
Hispanic groups on behalf of Spanish people.

The US is a racially segregated society in which each race looks out for its own interests.

We all know that, whether you enjoy the fact or not.
Some might not want any undue attention, but you do have that novelty side to being a gaijin anyway.
All I can say is, if you're oversensitive to being too different in a homogeneous society, Japan might not be for you.

No, those 'workplace laws' aren't laws, they are regulations. And they're largely counter-productive.

I'm not sure what your point about home-ownership is. That doesn't relate to hurt feelings.

In any event, property owners should have the right to discriminate as they see fit.

>non-discriminatory Japan

What does this entail exactly? I know you're probably an advocate of mass immigration as most liberals are.

But what if the people do not want mass immigration?

Because the only way you're going to get rid of the tacit 'discrimination' (read: natural reaction
to racial differences) is to saturate the country with third worlders to the point where any concept

If you find the fact Japanese are conscious of racial differences and react

Because that will never change. Ever.

I love Japan personally. I love it because it is unique, it is homogenous, it is so.... peculiar yet similar.

In any countries, racists live. But, those who a foreigner believes are such a person are often
never such people. As most Japanese have no foreigners in their neighbourhood, sometimes
they don't often know how they treat foreigners. So, they often try to keep some distance from them.

A very uncomfortable and frightening situation for her every time that
happens. So, again, don't think precious white foreigners won't be
treated badly.

Then you are setting a bad example for all of us. Do you realise that probably many of the reasons
you like Japan are a result of its homogeneity? Would you like to see Tokyo with its own variant
of Brooklyn? Or a Osaka to become like Detroit and Baltimore? To become like we've become, losing all
of our traditions and culture?

You need to accept that with homogeneity, there is an 'us' and 'them' mentality. It is how the idea
of community is maintained, community is not an altruistic, welcoming concept.

Enjoy Japan, just don't ask to be accepted. Don't behave like a nigger and complain about racism. Please.

That's not racism, if their anecdotal experiences of Russians have been,
broadly speaking, similar. Then what do you expect? It's only natural for
people to draw preconcieved notions based off experience. Would you keep on
touching an electric fence even though it electrocuted you the first 10 times?

Russians behave very badly in Japan from what I've heard anyway.

You raise many valid points. In fact, I suppose you're right, though I still hold on to my belief that there should be more equality and cultural understanding in Japan.

However, your use of the word "nigger" and general hatred of black individuals makes you seem dumb and ignorant.

Is it 'dumb' and 'ignorant' if I point out according to NCVS statistics gathered
for the year 2008, there were 40,000 black on white rapes while only 0 - 10 white
on black rapes?

Is it 'dumb' and 'ignorant' to point out that even if you use data controlling for social
variables, the best determinant of an area's violent crime rate in the US is not socioeconomic
status but the proportion of the population that is black or hispanic?

Is it 'dumb' and 'ignorant' to point out that many black people believe there is an omnipotent,
omnipresent, omniscient white entity in the universe that causes them to fail at life?

This is not 'racism'. Black people have destroyed urban centers all throughout the US, and what do
we do? We say that it's not their fault for committing crime, raping women and being chronically unemployed.

No more apologies.

The most interesting subject I encountered today was Russian whores.
Let's talk about them.
931名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:23:46
Can't say I really know too much about whores, I wouldn't pay for it,
if that's what you mean. Besides, those girls look dirty and worn hard,
not something I'd want to pay for.
932名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:27:01
You pay for it? Was it worth the money?
933名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:30:23
That is an overt discrimination towards whores generally, they should be treated equally as human beings.
That said, from what you just said, I can tell you are a virgin, so never mind.
934名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:37:34
I treat them as human, humans who are likely to give me STD's. I'll
talk to them, treat them like people, I just don't have sex with them.
That's not discrimination, it's not racist.
I think sex is the one area where you can discriminate.
If you can't, that's your problem.
935名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:44:03
You call them dirty, worn hard , based on a mere assumption that they are.
You do have a great deal of prejudice when you say you don't know much about them.
Any form of discrimination comes from ignorance, prejudice, and most definitely, hatred.
You've just proved that point youself clearly no matter how hard you deny it.
936名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:50:25
I know what I see. If I'm in Roppongi and I see a woman, any
nationality who looks like she's been around the block more than I have,
I'm not gonna hit that. More than that, I don't have to pay for it.
I don't hate them, I just won't have sex with them. I can get a clean
girl for free, so why pay for it?
937名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 17:55:26
The fact remains that you are most likely a virgin. That is, you will have to pay for it eventually.
Believe it or not, there will be a day when you thank a whore for what you can get.
Therefore, you should educate yourself and change.
938名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:00:07
Men who don't have sex with whores are virgins? That's bad news for
Japanese men,in America I never had to pay for it.
No, I will never need to thank a hooker for anything, unless I get
directions.
939名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:02:32
I have no idea what's the difference between painting face black and dyeing hair blonde.
It's same to Japanese.

941名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:07:50
If so, educate all Japanese. Average Japanese doesn't know the difference.
942名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:10:24
Well, you are in serious denial, you have yet to know what a real woman is like.
Perhaps, fapping to an anime character might count in your definition of sex,
but that's not what it takes to be a real man in reality. You need to face what
you can do for yourself realistically. Just be protected.
943名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:13:01
Why don't you educate all the Japanese people you know and save me some
time?
944名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:18:10
942- If you're paying for it, you're not getting the real woman.
She's faking it, she's probably got STD's and there is no amount of
latex that is gonna help you if it breaks. If you pay for it, that's cool.
I'm not judging you, man. I'm just saying that's not my style, and will
never be my style.
945名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:21:08
Considering the fact you don't sound like a mac daddy type, I guess you'll have no choice though,
but if you choose to stay that way for the rest of your life, that's that then...
946名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:25:49
What way? The not paying to get syphilis way? Look, I can get better
pussy, cleaner pussy just hanging around any military base. I can go
to Shibuya, Yokohama, Fussa and meet a nice, clean girl. I
don't need to pay for it. I never have before, and I won't start now.
947名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:32:11
You are being way too difficult here, dude.
You know you're never gonna get a girl in real life, that's why we're trying to give you some advice so
you won't freak out about a silly chorus group ever again. It's okay to guy a hooker.
948名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:40:06
Dude, I do not need a hooker and what does that have to do with blackface
anyway? Seriously, why are Japanese guys so interested in my sex life?
Trust me, I'm all good on that front.
949名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:49:06
Because obviously you're sexually deprived for too long.
Have good mind blowing sex, preferably a professional job, and you'll be alright.
You didn't even realize that's what it's all about?
950名無しさん@英語勉強中:2009/09/26(土) 18:58:56
All I know is you tend to stare at my dick a lot when I go to the onsen
and wonder why I don't pay for hookers on 2ch. Look, I really don't
have to pay for it. I can go to a bar, find an American girl, watch her
get hit on by guys who don't have a clue, swoop in and rescue her and I'm
good. That works here, better than when I went for Japanese girls. The
sex is great, I don't catch anything and I can talk in English after.
The only reason I'm frustrated now is the girl I'm into is kinda shy, so
I'm trying to go slow. She just broke up with some Japanese dude and
she's a little freaked about going out with anybody right now.

hey guys, why don't you cheer up a little. let's accept the world as it is,
with humans that can be hostile but gentle at the same time, with life
cruel but rewarding at the same time. Just concentrate on things that are
refreshingly different and interesting, keep on learning about the
ways of life and learn how to deal with it. one can be born into
a disadvantaged situation because simply some other group of humans
decided thatit was so. Therefore do not play the game according to their
rules. Human scan be powerful to a large extent but there is no absolute power.
NAtura has it ways of dealing living things who think they are invincible.
Just read my spider story and you will see what i mean.
If you are faced with a difficult situation, deal with it. If you are
fail again and again, devise methods to deal with it. Difficult situations will only
make you understand what you are made of. So move on guys.
