In fast place, you should need to must say "I'is sorreing at you" instead of "I'm sorry for you." "Is" are used when you is saying one person, so "I is" are correct. And then you should need change "I is" into "I's". And and, sorry is naturaluly change into sorreing because for 現在実際進行形. but and, you mast super carefull about sorrying and sorreing. The latter is correcting. and final-answerly, "at" is much alots bettering than "for". because you can able to use "at" like in tha way as "I throw at this dogs", so just the same reason. OK? no no. You donting have to need to apppolojize to at me. I's very kind gentle gentleman.
One movie I have always enjoyed is "Clue". It's actually based on a board game. Amazingly, it's very good. I always end up laughing...
Speaking of The Usual Suspects, I was disappointed when I saw that someone had removed it from NicoVideo. ...I like scrolling comments.
Speaking of movies in general-- Sometimes, when I watch a subtitled movie, I wonder if the subtitles are really accurate. I know that sometimes, dialogue is purposely translated wrong. For example, in The Usual Suspects, the line "Oswald was a fag" was replaced with a generic, uninteresting threat.
The only way I'd know for sure, though, would be if I spoke the language the movie is in. But then, of course, I wouldn't need subtitles.

Have any Japanese people read "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift? http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~rbear/modest.html It's probably too difficult unless your English is really good, but this is considered classic satire in English literature.
Or, some of today's most famous satire in America comes from a newspaper called "The Onion": http://www.theonion.com/ This uses much simpler language but is also a good example of satire. Is there something like this in Japan also?
>>65 Although I read "Gulliver's Travels" translated into Japanese when I was a elementary school student, I didn't read "A Modest Proposal". I hear Swift was an Irish who was a parson of Anglican Church. A story that how to cook human babies to save Ireland from starving is too bitter satire for Japanese people!!! In Japan, there is not a newspaper like "The Onion". I think its satire is bitter as well as Swift. I guess Japanese people dislike such bitter satires.
65 here. >>66 I'm impressed by your understanding, good job. It's too bad that Japan doesn't have a satirical newspaper like The Onion. I think it would be very interesting.

Iranians are also good at satire. http://www.irancartoon.com/120/holocaust/ Freedom of speech is much more protected than western world, where descendants of iranian(aryan) live.
>>112 Of course, I admit that Iranian people have freedom to swear at Israel or US and so forth. However, they obviously haven't freedom to swear at Iranian regime. Needless to say, Israel isn't peaceful and moderate country but I think middle eastern countries including Iran should become democratic countries.
I know what you mean. I'm the one who has the trouble of scrolling. When reading 2ch, I often need to get to the bottom of a page. When using IE you just right click and choose "down" then you can reach to the bottom of the page in a flash. Now Google know every single step you make on the internet. How come nobody in the media talks about the possibility of personal information being used without consent? Or is that actually included in the terms of use when you install it?

>>152 I suppose your writing skill is better than average sub-1 graders. I don't understand why you had hard time to pass sub-1. Have Sub-1 gotten harder than the one I took?
I'm not the man who wrote 152, however am writing for feeling like to ask you, who has written 155; whatabouts is "sub-1 grader"? For anyone who doesn't intend to study abroad, nessesity of have the TOEFL examination is little. Furthemore, TOEIC and EIKEN is not necessary for me. It's sufficient to read, hear, and write English sentences well.
It doesn't matter to native English speakers if you have passed Eiken's grade1 test or not. Eiken is a kind of a test that helps you prove your English proficiency only to "Japanese people." Nobody overseas don't know what it means if you have passed Eiken's grade1 test. They just judge your command of English just by how well you write, talk or communicate with them.
Some Japanese people may think it's sound like a sour grape, reading me not valuing Eiken test itself but I actually passed the Eiken's grade1 one a few years back. I know from my own experience that Japanese people think my English is spurb when they once know I've passed Eiken's grade 1 but in reality, I'm not that good so I don't tell anybody I've passed it not as long as someone I ask me if I have taken Eiken test.
Eiken can be a motivation to study English and it can assess English ability to some extent. But I also agree with you in that eiken is not the absolute scale on English or final goal of English. And Fluctuations can happen. I'm studying not for eiken. But I think someday I can pass eiken-1st-grade when I get proficient enough for eiken. So when eiken 1st grade gets not hard for me, I'll take eiken 1st grade.
And even if I got 1st-grade, study of English would go on forever...
>>160 Yes. The ablity to write better English or not, can not be obtained by but studying for English test. Even for native speaker, using better English is difficult; various kinds of natives speak English. Even if some method of leaning English is found up in future to transform foreigner to native, it is not likely you can use better English. Furthermore saying, why do you get a test? Can't you know your ability by yourself. I think you are the most appropriate person to know your ability.
>>164 I think he once struggled to pass eiken lst or wanted to have certification of English proficiency. But Maybe when he got lst-grade, he didn't have much feeling of accomplishment than he had expected. He decided to proceed in next stage instead of being content. But that kind of feeling is a privillege given to people who attained.
i want to talk with someone in english because i want to develop my english skill ! but it is time to go to the bet. i will come this thread tonight again. and if there are some mistakes in my sentenses, teach me please.
>>162 >Your English is not strict. What do you mean by this?
>>163 I think you'll pass it even if you take the test tomorrow. You write English very well.
>>164>>168 As 166 says I want to have certification. I have studied english for a long time so I wanted to have something that proves my English proificency to be pretty good. It was just like a pat on my back.
My friend, she speaks english very well. And teachers of American say "Her english is advanced, and natural." But her TOEIC score is only 600. And teachers also say "She must take good score at TOEFL, better than TOEIC." TOEIC score < TOEFL score? Do you think it is possible ?
>>174 The below is my opinion. She must be a good communicater in Japanese and likes to talk with people. A person like that is a good commnicater and likes to talk even in a foreign language. So she looks very fluent when talking in English. But as you say, her TOEIC score is low and it shows her English isn't so good in reality. She knows how to communicate with people in English with her limited command of English and makes the most of her command of English so to speak. It's just that she "sounds" like a good speaker.
As for the comments of American teachers, I think they just mean that she knows very much how to comunicate in English.
>"She must take good score at TOEFL, better than TOEIC." As far as I know, TOEFL is more dificult than TOEIC, so I don't believe what the American teachers said. But maybe they think TOEIC is for business people and TOEFL for students, so they thought she would get good score on TOEFL.
>>176 If you want to ask a question to native English speakers, the thread below is what you are looking for. I think you should announce in this thread to native speakers that you post a question because the thread is very slow and no native speakers wouldn't notice your post there without your announcement.
>>162 >Your English is not strict. What do you mean by this? ---------- I meant to say japanese English tests like eiken are strict on (meticulous about) grammers and spellings. -------------------------- a kind of a test Nobody overseas don't know it's sound like a sour grape not as long as someone I ask me if I have taken Eiken test. ---------------- sound unnatural to me. I thought these seemingly mistakes mostly could not be made by eiken 1stgrade holders. "it's sound like" is abbreviation of "it does"? I learnded "nobody" is third person singular. so "doesn't" should follow "nobody". I feel "nobody don't" more familiar though.
I feel "as long as not" sounds more natural instead of "not as long as". But it can be my misconception.
I know I am writing in a more terrible way. But when it comes to reading, I sometimes can notice mistakes of others. I often find my own mistakes when I read my own writings after a while. Rading is easier than writing, you know.
These are the reasons. But I'm not confident. Just my feeling.
Everyone in this thread, please listen to me. As you may know, my "trip" was cracked and because of this , some fakers has appeared here a few times.

I would greatly appreciate your kindness, patience, and warmth.
P.S. I love my alias so much that I couldn't change it. It is cool and sleek, isn't it?
>>180 OK. Now I know what you mean. Yeah I sure made some grammatical mistakes in >>161. Some could be avoided if I proofread it, which I didn't, before posting it, some couldn't be avoided even if I proofread it.
Believe it or not, I sure passed the Grade 1 test.
Some could be avoided if I proofread it, which I didn't, before posting it, some couldn't be avoided even if I proofread it. ----------------------- I know. It's interesting that my speculation is true of your before. We expect too much on eiken the first grade holders and even they can make mistakes we can notice. That's not a cynicism. It's encouraging for English bigginers in a good way.
>>147 Adobe's installer just looks for running services which may interfere with files being copies during installation, rather than specific programmes that are running. It's a pretty good sign of Chrome's lightness. I just miss the extensions that Firefox has, though, which would make some things easier.
As for the international TV-viewer thing, I've given up on that altogether and uninstalled it. Might try again in a few months (if they have a more stable release), but the crashes are way too frustrating to bother with right now.
It's pretty sad that I'm excited about it, but I can't wait for the release of Adobe's CS4 suite. If anyone has any ideas about some sort of useful Flash application, please feel free to mention it. I'm running out of things to work on.
All in favor of the motion to suspend the rules and nominate by acclamation Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, please say "Aye." ---------------------------- I have a question. What does "suspend the rules" mean? For me suspend is to stop something for a while. Stopping the rules for a while doesn't link to nominating Obama as a presidential candidate.
>>192 You're right. In this case, "suspend" is the same as "stop".
To help understand why they had to suspend the rules, I will supply you with what was said immediately before your quote. ---------------------------- CLINTON: "Madam Secretary, Madam Secretary, I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules and suspend the further conduct of the roll call vote, all votes cast by the delegates will be counted, and that I move Senator Barack Obama of Illinois be selected by this convention, by acclamation, as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States."
PELOSI: "Thank you, Senator Clinton. Senator Clinton has moved, in the spirit of unity, to suspend the rules of the convention and to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation as the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party." ---------------------------- Clinton's request is made confusing by the fact that it is not entirely grammatically correct.
>>194 It's an informal insult. "Ass" + "hat". It's pretty much the same as "asshole".
Supposedly, it comes from the expression "having one's ass up one's ass". If a person were capable of such a feat, he would be wearing his ass as a hat.
There is also the less popular "asshelmet", which is, of course, "ass" + "helmet".
I know there's a thread to ask native English speakers questions but that one is old and boring. Let's start a version in this thread. I'm an American, any questions? (any are ok, bring on your racism, stereotypes and general foolishness)

I'm learning English in an English-speaking country. Studying English here is good to English speaking skill. However, I find it difficult to improve my vocabulary since I hadn't studied English before I came here. So, I'd like to ask you how you increase your vocabulary, please.
>>155 Sorry to forget answering your comment. I appreciate your remark that I am better than average holders of the Pre-1st Grade.
I think there seems to be two reasons. First, it was January when I passed narrowly the first-stage test of Pre-1st Grade. It has passed about 9 months since then, and this time is enough to improve my ability in English.
Secondly, I like to study English. I have learned a lot by reading books, watching news, and writing here. Some books such as "BARRON's how to prepare for the TOEFL essay" have greatly enhanced my skill in writing, I believe.
>Have Sub-1 gotten harder than the one I took? Sorry to disappoint you, but I can't answer this question because I only took the recent test.
>How much is your TOEFL score? Never have I taken the TOEFL in my life, though I have some books for the TOEFL. Considering my experience and proficiency, it would be better to take the TOEIC first instead of the TOEFL.
Furthermore, I heard that the TOEFL is much more expensive than the TOEIC. Therefore, after passing the 1st Grade, I'd like to decide whether or not.

>>316 Some Japanese students want to study in US. My sister studied in NY state (almost bordering Canada) as an exchange student when she was a high school student. School system, carriculum and how classes go are different but somehow I think she adjusted herself to it. After one year of studying there, she wanted to go to university in USA but my parents didn't allow it partly for financial reasons. she gained more than 30 pounds while she stayed in USA. She looked like a different person when she came back to Japan. She suffered some discrimination. She said she was called "Chink." One of the big difference is you guys go to school by yellow bus, which I sometimes see in American drama or movie.
Some Japanese people just adore American or western school life/lifestyle. Their only source of information about America or other western countries is movies and dramas and those dramas and movies don't reflect real schoo life. I often watched Beverlly Hills 90210 and other US dramas centerin around American school life and to tell you the truth, I admired American kids' school life depicted in these dramas. But you have to keep in mind that students from abroad end up having to endure some discrmination and go through adjustment sage like my sister did, and they have to keep in mind that going to America doesn't necessarily promise you happy school life.
I think you can adjust yourself to Japanese school life.
>>326 Well, yes, school life here in the U.S. is not as it is depicted in the movies/television programs you speak of. However, the experience also varies widely depending on the school you go to, and where that school is located.
There is always discrimination, no matter where you go. I'm sure people that move to Japan and go through the Japanese school system have certain peers that make disrespectful comments about their race as well. As previously inferred, the quality of the people varies greatly due to the school and where that school is located as well. As such, while you may be subject to a higher level of discrimination in one school, it may not be the same in another.
The U.S. has a very high level of diversity, so, naturally, how you are treated is largely dependent on where you are and whom you're talking to.
>>326 I have finally found an attractive school as well as that of Beverlly Hills 90210. I think it is the best to you. In the video, four British new students are given a welcome by a good looking upperclassman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TeUtBpm3zE&feature=related
>>328 As for american school image in japan or in me, wide and long corridor and series? of lockers on one side of the wall. It might be not just an image but mundane daily scene for americans. But very american scene for me.
I don't have any interests in american school dramas like beverly hills 90210. Big headed, wrinkled psuedo James Deen and floozy girls always fighting over trivial things such as sex. Yes, it's also image. But I sometimes happened to watch it for a while when changing from channel to channel.
And it's true some japanese girls and boys aspire for such an american life style. Are they jokes from ordinary americans?
High school life in America must be much more exciting than that of in Japan. But have you seen the dark type of American highschool drama? such as Boston Public. It was such a dark drama. One single mother without her hand...that woman was a really skillful actress lol
full of black? nope...I don't think so. But yes, some black some white some spic some asians etc.. It was not that violent drama though. It was rather serious and each student holds some kind of problem and teachers too. They struggle in life and ummm...it was written by that famous script writer, David E Kelly. That was a good one.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=_bsniYwSaWg What I pointed out >>342 is in this video... In japan lockers are usually in the class room. And I guess lockers are not always equipted in japanese school. Highschool I went to had lockers in every class room though.
Isn't it true that american girls are more flashy and wearing heavy make up? White girls are more attractive but I don't like their flamboyance.
I want to go to orange county and challenge racialists here. I'm gonna I'll show them what true japanese warrior is.
I'll kick the door of a restaurant full of white peopleand drink alone with my legs over the table! But when some ugly nazis made faces at me and try to offend me, I'll pour beer over the face, punch them in the face and throw them one after another!

>>342 Yes, many high-schools here do have corridors with lockers in them as you describe. But not all. My high-school, for example, did not have lockers at all. They gave you a separate set of books in the classroom and you had a set at home as well. Therefore, you did not need to carry any books.
>>349 We tend not to have lockers in classrooms here. If we had lockers (past tense, I am no longer in high-school), they would be in hallways. Going into another classroom in between classes would just be bothersome and cause problems for the instructors.
-------
If anyone here plans on going to an American school, make sure to choose one in a good neighborhood. Some of the others can be pretty rough. The teachers won't care as much about your wellbeing in a school in a bad neighborhood either, most likely.
Do not expect things to be as they are in high-school dramas. They're just that, written dramas. They're completely fictional. Things aren't like that.
>>367 I heard somewhere White and African American don't mingle much at school. They sure spend some time together but that's just bare minimum such as after school football practice and other school activities.
Other than that in their free time, they don't really mingle. In a class room, white and black people sit sperately unconciously. Why is that? I think they think they are different from each other at th bottom of their heart.
>>367 Interesting story. By the way, I have had a question for you. When do you think you started to be unable to post in 2ch? Many foreigners with trip-code left 2ch. 米人, keitan, rosiajin for example. There is no evedence to prove the connection of their abscence and IP problem. But I want to know the date. Then I'll check the date of their disappearance.
>>369 I can't really provide you with an accurate time-frame; first it started with them banning everyone from my ISP (*.rr.com), so I began using proxies to connect. Eventually they managed to ban every proxy I had, and I couldn't find one that would work, and wasn't particularly motivated to try. It was for quite a while.
>>368 Not necessarily. While this is certainly true for a large portion of people of different races, there are many who do choose to intermingle with those of other races. I was one of the people that would do this. Many of my best friends growing up were of other races.
As for the others, I think it's more of a subconscious action than anything. Most people are brought up amongst people of their own race, and tend to flock toward them in social environments and otherwise. My mother ran a daycare when I was small, and I was raised in a very multicultural environment. I can only assume this had some impact on me, as I do not feel the urge to mingle with people of any particular race.
What a Friend we have in Jesus, [ all our sins and griefs to bear ]! What a privilege (it is) [ to carry everything to God in prayer ]! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, (It is) [ all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer ].
>>372 Thats was June of last year. It had been about a year when 2ch accepted my ISP again. (My ISP is also rr.com) When I really wanted to post, I borrowed the naborhood's wireless network that worked well lol.
>>380 nvm, I'm an idiot. apparently my lines were too long. my ISP was blocked before tho.
So I go to a public school in Chicago and it is very very diverse. Here are my estimates: 25% white, 25% black, 25% hispanic, 20% asian, 5% other. I hangout with tons of different people at school and I have plenty of friends across every ethnicity. However, it is true that outside of school I hangout mostly with other white kids. My school is a little different from other Chicago public school though because you need to take an entrance exam and get at least a certain score to attend. So pretty much everyone is intelligent and therefore we all have common academic backgrounds. Also my high school teaches 5 different languages: Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Latin.
>>349 Actually at my school the girls wear less make-up then the girls at the Japanese high school I went to. However, since we don't have to wear uniforms at my school the girls definitely show off through fashion. This of course is in general, there are also girls that wear lots of make-up/don't wear flashy clothes.
They gave you a separate set of books in the classroom and you had a set at home as well. Therefore, you did not need to carry any books. ------------------ This idea is very impressive. Had I known about it! I used to carry and bring back all the text books and note books everyday. At least I could have left them at school. And bring them back home if necessary. I wonder why I didn't come up with this idea. And I'm not sure everyone had his/her own key to his/her locker. It shoud have been. But I don't remember.
>>382 15% White, 25% Armenian Aren't Armenias considered to be white? They must be white in census. But there seems to be an implicit barrier between true white people and Armenians.
