>>6 on love? lol, probably not my vlog will probably just be boring, and maybe I'll practice my japanese on it. also, I'd be worried about trolls leaving nasty messages. .__.(like magibon) but kerokerorin doesn't get bad messages, so hopefully I'll have peaceful observers like her.
>>8 Hmm, I hope you won't let such trolls stop you doing vlogging.
Anyway, first of all, I don't think you don't have to worry. As I see it, MRirian's got nasty messages because proabably she doesn't speak to her e-audience and jst stare at the camera. I mean, I don't read all the comments left on her vlogs but from what I understand, most of the trolls left comments like "i wasted my time. Why is this video top-ranked? It's stupid" or something like that. there are many other people posting videos in japanese, such as of course "japanese vlog", and "me singing japanese song" kind of videos. But they have peaceful observers. The point I'm trying to make is, big youtubers (i'm not sure if magibon deserves it) like MRirian should/is supposed to live up to their expectations like funny stuff and everything.. If she speke a lil bit more, things woulda been diffent, I guess.. That said, it's not fair to speak badly about youtubers. I mean, you don't have to watch her videos if you don't like, what do you say?
More importantly, I take it that you are planining to make videos in which you actually speak to us, right? You want to make videos (and I watch them) and no one has the right to stop you (and I'm on your side). So go ahead, keira!
Hi everyone. I wanna ask you to how to learn correct English. I usually mistake grammatically(maybe in this), I want to reduce it. I think the best way is send a statement I wrote to native speaker but I can't. Do you have any ideas?
1. Which is correct? ・people need the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow ・Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow Gramatically speaking, I think the former is correct, but I found out many lyric sites tell it's the latter.
Another "which is correct?" quesion... ・ well one small town to decide on ・ well once more time to decide on From the sounds I caught, I think the former is correct, but then the lyric doesn't seem to make sense..
Read a lot of books. Classic literature, books on technical subjects, fantasy adventure stories, whatever you are interested in. Write on English-language forums. Spend time with native speakers, if you can.
Practice, basically. Use English while doing things that are interesting and fun.
That is pretty much what worked for me. (It helped that so many good science fiction books were published in English and never translated...)
>>8 What a turnaround. You are thiking of starting vlogging? You talk to web camera? You were shy enought to hide the URL of your blog. Now you start youtube? It must be fun to interact with other Japanese learners and Japanese people who are interested in foreign people studying Japanese.
It's fresh to my eyes even western people feel anxious about starting youtube. In western community, speak up your own opininon to the public is the norm while we are shy about it..as far as I know. Maybe that's one of the stereotypes. I don't know what I'm talking about. If you really start youtubing, I hope you get a lot from it.
keira, are you gonna start a vlog on love? I will subscribe to it!
Hmm, I hope you won't let such trolls stop you doing vlogging.

Since you were so late with posting the timings, I went ahead and listened to it without them, be grateful. :P
"Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder where it's so white as snow." I am 100 % sure, without fail, that this is correct.
"well one small time to decide on" is what I'm hearing. I'm pretty sure about this, but not 100 %. What I am almost 100 % sure of, is that it's either "well one small time to decide on" or "well one small town to decide on".
>>35 Yep. Tomorrow is the judgement day. I wonder how my seeing with my doc will go. I'll Try to sleep now.
In case I can't fall asleep, these days I always set my PC in Sleep mode in which you don't have to boot PC from 0. Sleep mode make PC a lot faster to be ready to be used again. Surfing the net make me feel less pain.
Maybe I come back in the middle of the night whining about my pain. Hope I can sleep until 7:00am non stop.
>>38 You shouldn't lie to the doctor. If you do, he can't decide what's best for you. Just bite your tongue and tell him the truth. It's better to be a little bit humiliated in the hospital than having extreme pains at home.
>>9 yeah, I think you're right.my vlogs probably won't get too popular when I make them. Only the people I suscribe to and 2ch english visitors will be the ones watching, probably. xD thank you for your support!
>>27 I hope that maybe I can try out a little bit of my japanese, since I need a lot of practice. I'll probably be laughed at for my horrible japanese, but at least I'll get practice and hopefully people can tell me what I'll be saying wrong. I think that it probably is a stereotype that westerners are not shy at all. xD What people across the world see in American movies, sitcoms, ect. are the not-shy confident people, because a story would be boring without them! As for my blog, it's super boring and I don't know why anyone would want to read it besides my friends, but now I have a japanese and english one. the url for the japanese one is in the email. >.> from the japanese one, you can probably find my english one.
>>38 Good luck! I hope the doctor will be able to help you!
i came back now because i had a part-time job, cram school. i'll make an effort so that i can give up my ex. my current byf don't live near me, so we can't often see each other. so i feel lonely..
>>42 That was the cutest blog ever, keira. I wanted to leave a message but I couldn't since I'm not a LJ member. But, probably it is better that way to keep visitors' comments clean. If I get the chance to become a member, I'll leave a comment. "Imaginary Folklore" is my favorite from that album too! GJ!
>>44 thank you. n///n oh, I enabled anonymous reviews, so now you can post if you want. you like nujabes too? n___n his stuff is so relaxing yet upbeat. thank you for reading.
>>53 Probably people in their 40's or older used a textbook like that when they are taught English at school. It's a very easy sentence to keep in mind, so even after they came of age, it's still stuck in their head. So, yeah, it's common in that sense. lol
>>40 Judging from the way he talked to me about hospitalization last time I saw him, the persentage of me hospitalized was 50/50. He didn't strongly urge me to get hospitalized. His tone was like, "It might be a good idea for you to get hospitalized..."
I told him to give me a few more days and suggested he change from injection to IV. He agreed and instructed me to have IV every day and I got IVed for the past three days in a raw. This is the forth day to try IV and at the same time, this is the day to see the doctor.
I have to report him how my foot was like for the past few days while I have gotten IV. I won't tell a lie but I think I hint at him I don't want to get hspitalized. But at the same time, I can't bear more killing pains (I haven't experienced that since I got IV, though)so, daring to get hospitalized is an idea.
I have a big strang feeling in my foot but I can' t say it's pain now. I managed to grab 6 huorsd of sleep last night. Thanks.
I must learn English much harder to stalk better, since I can hardly go on like this. I'm like just an idiot with this poopy English that only makes a laughing stock of myself.
>>73 I think you know your english quite well! Perhaps you just have to use it in more...productive ways. good luck and keep practicing! that's what this board is for. :)
Ah ben calisse, sebas est de retour, oh oui. Watcher vous ma gang de farfadets. ... Bon ben c'est pas mal ca pour a soir. On se reprendra la prochaine fois kthx chow bye
>>68 OHHHH, If you are hospitalized, who can insert some painkiller to me. As you are very good painkiler inserter (your PhD treatise is exellent), I would hate to miss you......
hum, seriously, I think It's a good idea to be in hospital. If you can't eat meals or sleep enough due to your pain, your wound won't get well easily. We hope you get well. :)
>>80 Thank you. I'm back home now and just had dinner. I saw the doctor in the morning and explained to him how the pain had been like for the past 4 days. He didn't mention the need for hospitalization today. Instead, he said, " in the meantime, let's see how your foot will be like with you under IV drop treatment."
I have to see him next Tuesday and until then, I have to go to hospital every day just to have IV drop treatment, including this coming Saturday and Sunday. I feel gloomy because I have to go there even on weekends for one hour IV drop treatment.
But I have no choice. It's a lot better than being hospitalized. So I think I'd better look on the bright side.
As for my foot condition, it's on plateau. In this conditon, I think I can sleep well enough. I have to be always on guard because the pain might attack me out of nowhere but at the same time I have to be optimistic to prevent me from exhausting from the fear of poosible surge of pain.
So, as of today, I'm not hospitalized. Holler me when you need painkiller to be inserted. uho
While there are about 5 million websites teaching Japanese, there are about 1.5 websites teaching Mandarin. This sucks, as I'd like to start reading mandarin by myself, before perhaps fully studying it.
>>102 My university gives distance courses, and there are no tuition fees. Don't know how they feel about people not even living in the country, though; or if it's possible to get by entirely in English. (Assuming that you are, in fact, not in Sweden...)
Hm. Actually I'm going to meet up with a guy who used to study Mandarin, and a bunch of Chinese later tonight. I'll ask if they know any useful sites. Assuming I don't get too drunk and forget about it right away...
Could I take part in the chat? My English writing is totally rubbish, so I'd like to improve it through this thread.
>>102 I've never heard of that. There are lots of teaching Japanese and Mandarin websites in the world.
In London, there are a few advertisement of training course for Japanese-language teacher. I often go to Japan Centre, which is one of the famous Japanese grocery shops in London, to buy some food and look for books, and see the advertisement as well.
Recently, a friend of mine stated teaching Japanese to British people. He told me that it was helpful to improve my English.
>>107 Yes, there are lots of good websites for learning Japanese, but after searching through every corner of the internet, I still haven't found a single good website that teaches Mandarin.
>>117 Yes. Why in god's name does he care so much about Britney Spears? Britney got herself into the mess that she's in now, she's got no one to blame for that. I thought people stopped listening to Britney Spears at the age of 11, I guess I was wrong.
>>118 Hmm, it's interesting. In my opinion, there are lots of rubbish language teaching websites in the world. The administrators of the websites are mean people who like to earn big money.
>>119 Yeah, yeah, yeah, I totally agree with you. Her music is a bit childish, isn't it? I'm always not interested in the kind of music. I recently booked the tickets of the concerts for Eric Clapton and The Police, which are better than Britney.
>>121 I'd say (from most difficult to least difficult) Chinese (Cantonese then Mandarin), Japanese, Korean.
Chinese because of pitches and ridiculous amounts of Hanzi, Japanese because or particle usage and ~2500 Kanji, and then Korean with no Kanji in use in modern times.
The latest poll numbers are in and Obama is now leading in Germany by double digits and running even with Hillary in Japan, Russia is solid Romey territory, while Iraq is trending for McCain
>>134 I hate the Chinese censorship. They're still semi-communistic.

My opinion on the homosexuality discussion: Of course gay marriage should be allowed. Marriage is nothing more than an official announcement that you and your partner are actually seeing each other, and want to keep doing that for the rest of your lives (at this point, at least). Christian morals should not have anything to do with it, but unfortunately this isn't the case. This is a prime example of religion trying to control people's lives.
I feel that churches/religions should of course be free to allow or disallow gay marriage withing the church/religion itself, but not outside of the church/ religion. There are too many narrow-minded brainwashed religious freaks that feel the need to impose their beliefs upon others, that is why gay marriage hasn't been officially accepted in all countries of the world.
PS: I'm not gay, just to get that one out of the way.
I have almost no interest in this adultery thing, but the world is, I'm sure, more worried about Chinese communist party destroying nature, exporting poisoned foods, commiting genocide and what not..
>>82 What does uho(ウホッ) mean? I have seen a foreigner asking the same question here before. That has to be on FAQ list.
Uho!!! originats from a comic book made for gay people. In the comic, when a gay man spotted a man of his type, he said to himself with excitement, "uho!! He is so cute./he is my type." Uho is kind of like "Wow!!!"
As far as I know, the comic book was not widely known before because gay comic books are underground thing in themselves. But one 2channeler (I'm not sure if he himself is gay or not.)found the comic very amusing because of impossible ridiculous but setting, he introduced the comic to 2channelers and the comic book has become widely known to 2ch.
And then, Uho began to be used in different ways as a joke. For example, if you say, "I'm uho," it means I'm gay. "Are you uho?" means "are you gay?"
In >>80 he said, "If you are hospitalized, who can insert some painkiller to me. " jokingly, so I replied in >>81, " Holler me when you need painkiller to be inserted." He and me are not gay (possibly he is?!?! lol) but I answered as if I was excited to insert painkiller in his anus.
>>107 > There are lots of teaching Japanese and Mandarin websites in the world. So tell us about them already. (We already know about the Japanese ones.)
When is super bowl? Does fuva? favi? fovi? hoova? the QB's team moved on to Super Bowl? I was updated in the biddle but lost track of how things are going?
>>160 Oh, It's monday.. Has the famous QB's team advanced to Super Bowl? The famous Quarter Back whose name is fago, figo, favo???? I forgot. I haven't seen him playing on TV so If his team will play in Super Bowl, I watch the game.
Joe Montana, Steve Young, Dan Marino, are the only QBs whose name I know. That was waaay back in '90s though.
I googled. Don't tell me I should have before asking here... And OOhhhhhhh Nooooooooooooooo... His team lost to the Giants in Conference Championship.. His team is Greenbay Packers.. I think that was the first loss for his team this season... His name is Brett "Favre." http://www.japantimes.co.jp/shukan-st/writer/writer_sports/writer_sports.htm?v=078
When I see this thread is not as active, I feel kind of sad. 2channel's English board is the site where I vist the most often when I turn on my PC.
SNS, blog. There are lots of websites that help people interact with each other on the Internet. But for a person like me who has no social life, I don't undersatnd why facebook or myspace or mixi or other sns sites are so interesting. Especially face book is designed to complement real life's relationship, I can't take full advantages of it. I have my account but I haven't used much.
2channel is the place where a person like me who have no contacts in real life can enjoy under anonymity.
(con) But to tell the truth, as I've been reading your kakikomi for more than half a year, your appearance doesn't match the image that I had in my mind. I used to imagine someone that is older and low-key and you are a bit different from my imagination. ^^
↓の英文を訳していただけませんか? Dropped by "Lock Girls" to get the story and the gossip was that the Japanese guy had given up after an increasing dumb set of "economies", apparently at one point trying to fine the service girls for spending too much time chatting to customers!
I have a question. If I get Igirisujin-san as mymiku, can I add as my friends' friend such as other America-jin san and miscellaneous people here automatically? lol
I've never wanted to go to China in the first place, really. I know you can't boycott China's goods since they make everything, but why vacation in a country known for violently repressing any and all criticism? Is China so beautiful that it's so easy to ignore their atrocious human rights record?
Hey guys. Anybody use a Vista here??? My PC is getting old and want to buy a new PC but all the new PCs come with the Vista now Can you use XP SW with a Vista? Like MS office...
>>210 I never used Vista myself, but read so many negative articles and comments about it. Some people say it's worse than ME. I guess there's a lot yet to be done with it. Mine's Vista capable, but I'm still waiting for a better upgrade.
>>216 That's maybe because Vista's Aero feature. Lot's of new gimmic features make vista PC slow. It's said you need 2GB memory to use Vista PC comfortably.
Yeah, me too. I actually never tried Vista, but Microsoft OS's are usually like that. The first year or so, they're terribly until their free bug-test... I mean, paying customers locate and report enough problems and they fix it.
Watch out people. If you've been buying music's online, you are going to have a hell of problems after you changed to Vista. I have so many problems playing those music's with licensing I gave up some of them.
The Paranoid, Security-Conscious O.S. Prioritizing the security of copy- protected material over customer satisfaction. That's some great priorities there, Mr. Gates.
>>168-169 Feel free! I had to look up 'mymiku', but now I understand - that is the whole point of mixi, after all.
>>222 I've had a couple licensing problems in the past when using XP, but got around them by using an application that converts audio types. Set it to MP3 -> MP3 and it makes it exactly the same, but strips it of DRM. I still use XP.
The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
I just saw a shooting star. It was very big, looked almost like a comet, and it got pretty close to the ground (much closer than any shooting star I've ever seen before).
I wonder how many times you can see shooting stars from the earth over a period of, let's say 50 years? Let's not take your position on the globe into account.
>>227 Oh, You had a very exciting experience. I have watched some small shooting stars at morning jogging time during the winter when I lived in Numazu city(which is near Mt.Fuji). Also, I often watch them at a ski resort. In my opinion, If we go to somewhere has few lamp, we can watch them easily. (And they say that during the winter It is easy to watch small stars due to dry air.)
By the way, Do you know "the Meteor shower" as known as "Ryu-sei gun"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor_shower These are the celestial events which we can watch a group of shooting stars in a particular area of sky at a particular time. These occur not rarely. For example, There was the Perseids meteor showers last summer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perseids If you would like, why don't you watch some meteor showers of this year. IMO Meteor Shower Calendar 2008 http://www.imo.net/calendar/2008 (It is not an abbriviation of "in my opinion" :P ) And If you watch a discoloring shining object above the horizon, let's call an astronomical observatory and say "There is UFO!!". :) :) :)
The Perseids are awesome. I live in SoCal, so we get a good view of it in August. One summer night me and a friend drove out to the desert in her truck and just lay in the back, watching the shooting stars. Good times.
Shooting star is not as rare as you might imagine. I've often seen it when I had a dog and took him out for a walk at night.
UFO is Unidentified flying object so it doesn't have to be operated by an alien. It's just unidentified. So UFO in most case is just a natural phenomenon.
>>238 I tried to solve the riddle you proposed there, but came to the conclusion that you are immaculately retarded, which is not a bad thing. I like it.
>>256 I take it you're already a millionaire, seeing as 90K isn't much to you. Why don't you pay off your loan with that money? Oh, you get tax cuts since you have the loan?
>>257 Uh... If I were a millionaire, I wouldn't *need* student loans in the first place. And 90k isn't that much for a question like that. Usually people ask something like, if you had 10 million dollars, what would you do, or something like that.
today I watched a program about the musical genius, Derek Paravicini Have you heard of him? He is blind and autistic (He is 24, with the IQ of a 4 year old) but is very musically gifted! There is a documentary of it on youtube. If someone plays 10 keys on the piano all at the same time, he can tell which keys were touched!
>>261 Autistic people have very concentrated skillsets, so that doesn't surprise me at all.
That reminds me of this American guy that had some sort of mild form of autism; he didn't like open areas and was a little shy, but those were his only negative autistic traits. He had an insane memory, and could do some sick math in his head. He literally saw numbers as colors and shapes in his head. The ugliest number to him was 199 or 299, I don't remember.
Anyway, this guy memorized about 20 000 digits of pi (3,14), if my memory serves me correctly. He also learned Icelandic in one or two weeks, and then proceeded to hold an un-staged conversation with an Icelandic news team, live. As you may or may not know, Icelandic is ridiculously hard to learn, and is generally accepted as one of the hardest languages to learn.
>>275 me no. Coz I'd get jealous if he would be so handsome and get people's attention all the time. I want to be the one who would get the attention from people. lol
Since I'm neet, I usually stay at home but because of the pains in my foot, I have gone out every day to go to hospital. Luckily, I get to sleep for 5 or 6 hours for the past few days but I don't think that's enough to stay out of my house in the daytime.
Even though I insert a painkiller in my anus, I wake up in the middle of the night because of strange uncomfortable feelings in my foot and it's not easy to get back to sleep. That's why I lack in sleep.
I think I have to put a painkiller in my anal tonight, too. The strange uncomfortable feelings there are bad enough to deprive me of sleeping time. Actually, I'm very sleepy now but the strange feeling there prevents me from falling to sleep.
I'm fed up with it. I have to go to hospital tomorrow, too just to get IV drop. The day after tomorrow, I'm going to see my doctor. Chances are he will instruct me to come to hospital to get IV drop later on or for other treatments.
If the severe pains come to me next time even under this circumstances of IV drop treatment every day, I'll have to be under 24 hours surveillance, which means getting hospitalized.
Haaaaaaaaaaa..... I'm so frustrated that I could punch strangers in the face on the street or bad attitude nurses. Have to be careful not to end up seeing headlines of papers that goes like "Frsutrated man hits passerbys with a painkiller in his anus."
haaaaaaa.. I guess it's about time to have a painkiller in there.
Now I've just put my friend, painkiller in my anal for tonight. I usually use a sheet of kleenex to avoid dirct contact with my anal. But to see if it is comletely inside, I check with bare middle finger.
The problem is, I think once in a while I forget to wash my hand before eating a piece of bread for breakfast. I hope it's just my imagination.
>>284 There's nothing I can do but to follow my doctor's instructions. I post partly to vent my frustration, partly to practice writing in English, and for other this and that reasons. Just read as an entertainment, an adventure story that develops deep in my anal.
>>285 Not at all. but once you put it in, it starts to melt, so that's OK. But for the first few minuites, there's strange uho feeling in there.
Gotta eat breakfast and go to hospital. Room for injection, IV drop is crowded the most on Monday. I have to wash my hand before grabbing a piece of bread.
>>297 nothing really. My teacher told us about the move 'Densha Otoko' and I found out that it all started here. So I came to look at this place, and maybe I could practice my japanese, but there's so much that I don't know
>>298 I don’t know if ‘densha otoko’ started here or not. But if you want to know the Japanese cultures. You are at right place. Are you interested in Japanese? Like mangas and games?
There's a new story named "Anus Otoko" now playing here in this thread, but it's not really going anywhere, so you can say whatever you want to. Perhaps, you can start your own story here.
>>300 I started reading about "Anus Otoko" but there's 300 posts here! I couldn't read them all
>>299 When I was younger I was a lot. Now, I am more interested in the culture, current and historic. I'm studying Computer Science and Japanese, so I might do business in Japan, too. I want to study abroad in 2 years, but I've heard that from different people that it's either a really good place to go, or really bad. Some people have said that foreigners are looked down upon, while others say that people love them. If I studied in Japan, I wouldn't want either -- I would just want to be normal.
>>304 Just forget about being normal since you're studying Japanese. People will naturally assume that you're just another one of them crazy wapanese anime geeks when you tell them that you're studying it.
I've watched perhaps 5 hours in total of anime in my life, and I couldn't care less about anime/manga, I find the language fascinating and that's why I'm studying it, but that doesn't matter to anybody else.
>>305 I've even noticed that here on campus. I don't even look like one of those types, yet when I mention I'm studying Japanese and Computer Science, I get "those looks." I generally don't even mention it until after they know me pretty well in order to avoid those kinds of assumptions.
I wonder why they are assumed as wapanese or geeks? In the first place, why wapanese are so looked down on? Just like otaku here? Is it a form of bullying? Or something Japanese is a disgrace to some people?
>>310 Japanese things aren't disgraceful, but it's the people who take it too far tends to be. It's the people who claim to know so much about Japan, the language, culture, etc. when they aren't Japanese, haven't been to Japan, and the only exposure they have to Japan is through anime, manga, and games. They generally have bad social skills, because they stay at home, or at their friend's houses watching anime. I guess it is like otaku over there. "Otaku" over here call themselves otaku as a sign of pride, because they don't realize that it's a bad term.
>>310 Let me give you a run-down of how a weeaboo (another word for wapanese) acts and speaks. Remember, I'm not even fucking kidding now, brace yourself for embarassment.
Hi Jeremy-kun, did you watch Naruto yesterday? It was so kakoi and kawai (note that they cannot spell any of the ten words of Japanese they know). I wish Naruto was my friend so we could go and do ninja stuff together lol. Anyways I put on my nekomimi today, and I'm drawing this yaoi sketch of Naruto and Sasuke lol desu~.
Seriously, I can't go on, my brain fucking hurts after typing that out. Also note that if they were to actually write something on a forum on the internet, at least every second word would be spelled wrong, and there would be at least one smiley for every three words.
These retards can suddenly start yelling crazy shit with no actual purpose, like KAWAIIIIII DESUUUUUUU or BAKKKKKKA and stuff like that. Every time I bump into one of those motherfuckers, I get so fucking angry that I almost get a blackout and kill everybody in a 100 m radius around me.
This is why I don't tell anybody that I study Japanese, because I will automatically be lumped together with these inbred fucks which are a shame for humanity and should be put down as fast as possible.
>>311 Hmm... I kind of got it. Sounds like serious otaku here in Japan. It's sort of true that anime, manga and games are big part of Japanese culture, though. I mean, we grow up with those, more or less. But, I guess it's about their social ineptness that gives them a bad name there, right?
>>314 The basic notion is that "cartoons are for kids". Of course, most of anime (basically the only anime marketed in the western market) is for children, so westerners never get to see anything else, and thus believe that it's only for children. It's the same for western cartoons, I've never seen any cartoon made for adults.
The same thing goes for comics to some degree, although most people don't really give a shit about that.
I've watched a few shows myself, and found them to be pretty good. I've watched Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Mushishi and Berserk. Of course, if you're just an everyday westerner, you'll never be able to get ahold of any of these shows, simply because they aren't marketed here (exceptions may be Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, but I don't live in the US so I'm not sure).
>>314 I think you've got it, then. It's definitely their social ineptness. But >>313 is right too. They think they *think* they know about Japan. They do things wrong, and don't care about fixing it. "kawai desu" and "baka" are probably the only words that they know, and they overuse them.
>>315 I was merely giving an example of how weeaboos act, and being around them is extremely fucking awkward to the point of wanting to commit suicide. I didn't say that all 腐女子 (hey, I learned a new word, thanks) are weeaboos.
>>317 I notice that "cartoons are for kids" thing. I'm not that big on anime(I never watched any of those you mentioned;;), but some of them are really good, like Death Note was really well written and plotted. I liked it alot.
>>318 I don't get that part well. actually. This analogy might sound stupid, but when I first ate Califonian rolls, I thought those were just wrong because they were not right. I wasn't mad or anything, but maybe that was a similar feeling. I love them a lot now, though. But if they had insisted those were genuine Japanese food, I would have corrected them. I'm kind of getting lost, sorry.
>>320 They try so hard to be Japanese that it's just pathetic. They think that if they say it in an anime, then it must be true. They don't actually know Japanese, except for the few words they learn from anime. "baka" "kawai" (kawaii, but they can't tell the difference) "desu" It's not that is "just wrong." A better analogy would be like a science teacher coming into class and dancing around doing African dances and tribal dances because he saw it on the Discovery Channel. He doesn't actually know anything about the African cultures, so they are just embarrassing themselves by doing it. That's probably not a good analogy either.
>>324 They are like mentally retarded children that's escaped from a medical clinic. Just being around them is fucking awkward.
Imagine having a couple of friends over at your house, and you're all in the livingroom with your mother, father, and siblings. Suddenly, one of your friends starts talking about how he shat in his girlfriends mouth and then proceeded to let his dog fuck her while she gave him a blowjob.
That kind of awkward. You just want to get the fuck out of their presence. They have absolutely no social skills, and they do not know what's proper and improper conduct.
>>324 an attitude problems depends on the individual. They almost never have good social skills. If they ever get made fun of for their hobbies, they just claim that they can't be made fun of because Japan is better than everything anyway. Now, I like Japan and all, but I'm not going to say that Japan is better than everything just because some obscure anime is from Japan.
So yes, a lot of them do have an attitude problem.
aha, i think this is a funny conversation. Just like the fellow up there^ I also don't like being lumped into the "japanese-obsessed" category. I do stand out a little on campus because I like to try out fashions that I see in Japanese magazines and websites (nothing extreme, just different) and as soon as someone knows that I am learning japanese, I get the "Oh...so you're into anime huh?" ...Anime and japan apparently are inseperable. Granted, I used to love anime when I was younger (pokemon and sailor moon) but I've kind of outgrown it.
I don't really get along well with otaku, even though otaku seem to like me a lot. >.> I have nothing against them too much, but sometimes (and those who know can vouch for me) American Otakus are loud and disturb the peace.>_>;;;
and yeah...I get second-hand embarassed when I hear someone throwing out random japanese words. 9__9
I feel your pain, >>321 さん. Good luck in your studies, I am also trying
He's only taking Japanese so he can go to Japan and meet "hot Japanese women" who will think he's "so kakoi" for being "america jin" and he knows about their "culture" (anime) With the main goal being the women.
>>329 And I've met a subcategory of Japanese guys, who are learning English to meet hot American/European chicks. With their main goal being the women. So what's your point? People do things for the reasons that are important to them. Yes, some of them make themselves look incredibly stupid. But so what? It's no one else's business as long as they're not hurting anyone.
>>326 here It's not that they talk bad about American things. It's just that they can't accept that they ARE American. And that they don't have any basis in their arguments that Japan is better. Let's say 2 people are debating. One person says that Apples are more healthy because they have nutrients, they taste good, and they are filling. The other person says that Cake is better just because it is. You get really annoyed at the person who likes Cake, because they have no argument there.
It's the same thing with Japan. I like Japan because of the culture, history, language, grammar, literature (once I can read better), and a lot of different things, but the American otaku likes japan because they have "s00per kawai ninja yaoi desuuu~~"
>>331 Sir, I want to shake your hand. I wish I could meet more people like you in real life. I personally don't care what he does, as long as nobody gets hurt. Are a lot of Japanese people like you?
This person I'm thinking of in particular, I think, is missing out on a lot that Japan (and the world) has to offer by being so focused on women. And that's why I'm so disappointed.
>>333 Haha. Well, I'm American (and a girl XD). But personally, I totally agree with you about people like that missing out on a lot of Japan. I think it's a shame, but hey, we all appreciate different things in life...
>>330 hello there. Yes, when they are with friends, I've noticed that they get pretty looud. >.>;; This is just from MY observations though. I know that there are some hardcore otaku out there that keep their love for anime a complete secret and refuse to interact with typical american otaku (i used to be one of them. lol)
Japan really is a facinating place, with an interesting culture, so when people act that way( only liking japan for anime and butchering the language) I find it a bit disrespectful. :/ The same thing could be said for those who think they are cool for watching french films and butching french and wanting to move to paris. ...I guess what I'm saying is, that it's fine to like another culture, but people should still be able to accept themselves for who they are.
>>335 LOL Well, here I am on this almost purely Japanese website, and I end up talking to an American girl...what are the odds I thought you were >>330 when I posted it before. Anonymity: making conversations complex
>>336 and they have to realize that they are not Japanese, no matter how much interest they have. If they want, they can try to *integrate* into some Japanese thing, as long as they realize that they are *not* Japanese, especially when they have a minimal knowledge of what is there.
>>336 Fans of anything are loud in groups. That's the way humans are. Anime fans are no louder than football fans. And I think that childish "veneration" of Japan (or France, or what have you) is often a natural phase that people go through, especially younger fans. I think I went through a similar period when I was in middle school, although it wasn't as pronounced as some other people. Yes, it's annoying. But for many, it's a natural, preliminary step towards a more mature and thoughtful appreciation of a culture.
>>332 Okay, so, they have way different tastes in Japanese things from yours. Perhaps, completely different.
>>331 I tend to agree with you, because I've never had a bad experience with them. Basucally, they just keep talking about things I have no idea about. But, maybe because I'm Japanese. I don't know.
>>336 That's one thing I'm not sure about. What is 'being American', do you think?
>>339 >>Fans of anything are loud in groups. That's the way humans are. I disagree, if you're saying that this is always the case. This is a huge over generalization.
Also, there's nothing wrong with moving to another country with a different culture because you like it there. You might not be from that country, but who gives a flying fuck about that anyway?
>>342 Of course there always exceptions. What I meant to say is, in my experience, when you get a bunch of people (or maybe this only goes for Americans, who knows) who share a common interest together, chances are shit's going to get pretty loud.
>>342 no, there's nothing wrong with moving to a country where you like it (the culture and everything) but just make sure you know what you're getting in to.
If you have a false (or limited) view of Japan, like most American Otaku have (>>341 : That's what it is, American Otaku don't know what Japan *really* and *fully* is. They ONLY know anime/manga/games/etc.) With a wrong view of the country that you're going into, then you will have expectations, and no matter what your expectations are, you'll be disappointed when they aren't fulfilled. That might be why some people have a GREAT time in Japan for only a SHORT amount of time, and others have BAD experiences over LONG periods, and vice versa.
>>344 Then you'll either learn from your disappointment and like Japan for what it is (not for what you think it is). Or you'll leave and never come back. Either way, win-win for all parties involved.
>>340 Hello fellow American girl. x] you're not alone.
>>341 Hmm, well it wasn't really the fact that they are American, just more of the fact that they really want to be japanese. But...this is just a stereotype of the ones that I have known. And really, as earlier stated, I guess it's not really my bussiness what hobbies people partake in right? n_n I guess I'm just tired of being generalized into that group. TT_TT
>>345 OK, well that brings up a question that I've been curious about: How xenophobic is Japan in general? I've heard good things and bad things, and I don't if it's a regional thing, or an entire national thing.
>>347 Impossible for me to say, as I've never lived there, only visited. I'll say first that I imagine it's a similar question to, "How racist is America?" Probably impossible to answer. It all depends on where you are, who *you* are, and who you talk to. In my experience, many Japanese are wary of foreigners. They just don't want anything to do with them. If you ask for directions, they'll smile and try to help you out. But that kindness is very shallow. I get the impression that they're telling me, "Yes, you can visit. Yes, we want you to enjoy our country. But you'll never belong here, so don't stick around for too long." (There are the rabid right-wing assholes, but every country has its share of those.) I don't know why, but I get this feeling that a lot of Japanese consider foreigners as somehow being incomprehensibly different. But the Japanese people that I've had extensive relationships with have all been very friendly and welcoming, once they got to know me a little (and especially when they saw that I speak good Japanese). Basically, once I was no longer a stranger to them, they had no problems with me. I've also been lucky in that I've had the opportunity to interact with a lot of young (college students) Japanese people, who are generally much more open and excited about getting to know foreigners.
>>344 So, as long as they come to Japan to participate in a Comiket or something, they should be allright, I guess. But, I agree that they need to study at least customs and stuff if they want to stay longer.
>>346 To be completely honest with you, if someone categorized me into otaku, I'd be so upset too. I know exactly how you feel about it there. This might sound weird, but the part of them wanting to someone else is already part of who they are. And one of American values that i respect is freedom, so I assume it's quite ok to like that, just in principle. Sorry if what I say doesn't make sense.
>>347 Oh, just to add on the topic of it being a "regional thing," it's certainly true that you'll get maybe a little more welcoming treatment in Tokyo or Osaka. But at the same time, maybe because they're used to dealing with foreigners, they can be a little more brusque. In the "small town" kinds of places, which I've had the pleasure of visiting as well, you get the people that stare at you like you're a circus attraction. XD But they also put in a very kind, genuine effort to help you out. Of course, this is all speaking purely from my experience.
>>350 Anything helps. I'd like to study abroad (like I've said) and I have choices of Sapporo and Tokyo, as well as some others I believe. I would like to go to a large town/small city where at first they might stare like a circus attraction for a while, but since it's small enough, they WILL get to know you, and end up having friends like that one person said.
>>347 This was discussed in the first thread, and the conclusion we came to was that Japan isn't as racist as people hype it up to be.
I think that the Japanese that don't like foreigners, don't like foreigners because many Americans go to Japan and treat everything as their own personal toilet; not caring about anything and being loud and obnoxious, because the Japanese are so modest/shy that they don't say anything. In my opinion, the majority of Americans I've seen in Japan are of the unlikeable-in-any-country-type, or total morons, if you will.
Right, I've seen the same people in Switzerland and France. And of course, since they are so loud and vocal in other places, when they get back to America, they are loud and vocal back here, and give everything a bad name. Since they are so vocal, more people will hear them. I'll definitely check out the other thread at some point, if I can, but at this point I have to go to bed...I've got class (Japanese, ironically) in the morning.
>>352 ewwwww... those sorts of people are SO embarassing. D: While I was in Japan, sometimes we'd go places with a group. There was one person in the group who was very disrespectful and the whole group was so embarassed to have her there with them. We didn't want to associate with her at all. She said things like: "What?! they don't speak English here?!" "I don't have any yen! you don't take American money?" It was terrible. =___=
And I didn't learn until I got back from japan that...you aren't supposed to talk on the subway! I had talked with my mom a few times, and I didn't realize that it was a social norm to be quiet on the subway. But at least people here on 2ch assured me that maybe they didn't mind. >.>;; Whenever visiting a foreign country, I try to follow the customs to be polite.Even though I stick out a lot, I'll still try! lol
>>354 People talk on the subway all the time, it's just talking on the phone that's "frowned" upon, but many people do it still. It's kinda funny watching people pulling their jackets over their heads and crouching down in a corner to talk on the cell phone.
>>355 It's because they know they shouldn't deep down. But if it's urgent, it can't be helped.
Some westerners are total morons. They don't know what "public" means, nor do they try to understand how much they disgrace themselves. Halloween isn't an excuse to be nuisance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Keo385PUlIQ
It's funny, though. We have plenty of Japan fans in my school and class, but none that are as extreme as the ones you've been talking about. Perhaps it's just a difference of degree, I can definitely relate...
>>360 It's a website that offers anime downloads. It's illegal. Yes, everyone knows about this.
Piracy is a big problem for anime in America because no American anime companies have sued or taken any action against these type of websites. Currently the US anime industry is doing worse than 10 years ago despite anime being more popular. This is because nowadays many fans just illegally watch anime instead of buying it. I think it's really horrible all of the newer anime fans that I have met mostly just watch anime off of youtube instead of buying it. I of course buy the DVDs but I don't think it's enough.
DVDs are ridiculously overpriced. Sometimes there are only 2 or 3 episodes per disc. Fuck that. If it's a choice between pay nothing and watch no anime, or pay nothing and watch anime, I'll download it. They wouldn't have been getting my money either way.
>>364 DVDs are cheaper in America than they've ever been.
>>366 Only idiots use that particular since it has a subscription fee. People who call themselves fans of anime and yet don't support it usually either downloads the anime off of a bittorrent site or watches it on something like Youtube.
Very interesting duscussion is going on so I hesitate to post but let me tell you Anus Otoko is back..... Wait! Who in the world dubbed me Anus Otoko? I bursted out into laughing.
Yeah, nothing funny about my story so far. All I write is how much I'm frustrated, irritated with a little bit of "uho"ish painkiller experiences dotted here and there.
If I ended up being hospitalized, maybe that would give my story more twists and turns. Maybe I would fall in love with a nurse. I would access to 2ch on hosipital bed and ask for advice on what I should talk about with her when she comes to my room to measure my blood pressure every morning or how to ask her out while I'm in hospital.
Not all the nurses are female these days. I have seen a few male nurses when I was hospitalized about two years ago so It would turn out to be an uho story.
The problem is I don't have a lap top PC so it would be impossible to access to 2ch once hospitalized. Yes, you can post in and read 2ch threads even via cell phone. I have a cell phone but I haven't subscribed to web browsing service of my carrier so I would cut off from 2ch completely. I usually stay home so to me there's no point of owning a portable phone in the first place.
Well...All I want now is enough sleep without being disturbed by jittering weird uncomfortable feeling in my anal, no, I mean, in my foot. Probably I have to put an uho painkiller in my anus tonight as usual to sleep well before I go to bed.
Wapanese and weeaboo are the words I hadn't ever known until I saw them here in this thread a while ago. Now I know what they mean but, are they commonly used? Are average American or people from overseas familiar with the words? Only Otaku arena overseas know the words? Or only people in a particular age groups know the meaning of the word? I want to know how they are commonly used.
By the way, I have read thier definition at urbandictionaly.com, too.
>>371 I personally would not think that most people have even heard the words; I never saw them until I started visiting imageboards, myself. But "wapanese" is preobably easy to understand at least.
>>371-372 'Weeaboo' originated in a comic strip from the webcomic 'Perry Bible Fellowship'. A wordfilter was added on 4chan so that whenever someone posted 'wapanese', it changed the word to 'weeaboo' in the actual post. The wordfilter was eventually removed, but it became habit for many to use 'weeaboo' instead of 'wapanese'. I used to moderate over there.
>>372 Thanks for your response. So maybe they are used only on the Internet.
>>373 That's very interesting. >I used to moderate over there. You mean you were a kind of a watchdog to see if Wapanese is not used on 4ch? If so, it's new to me that you are a 4channeler. I can't access to the link. Originally in the comic book, weeaboo has nothing to do with Japan?
>>374 That's right - the comic has nothing at all to do with Japan. The whole site seems to be down at the moment, but it's worth trying later. Some of the comics really are good. I've tried not to mention 4chan before, because I really don't think it belongs here. It was my role to make sure people were following the rules: to delete threads which didn't belong there, and ban people who broke the rules.
Anyway, good luck with your painkiller. Maybe one day someone will find a way to apply strong enough painkillers without having to slide tubes under your skin, or... the other way.
>>375 Oh, I see. Thank you. I'll try accesing the site another time. I take that average British don't know what weeaboo means.
>slide tubes under your skin I don't understand what this means but if you are talking about IV drip I get everyday, it doesn't work as a painkiller. The liquid injected by IV drip works to remove the root cause(, which I haven't mentioned so far)of the pain in my foot, while uhoish piankiller in anus and another painkiller tablet I intake by mouth work just to reduce the pain. And it's not tube that are slided under my skin but just a needle attached to the end of thin tube. Hard to expalin but thank you. Maybe I misunderstand what you mean.
>>378 Ah, your explanation has helped. I've never really seen an IV up close, probably because I have a phobia of needles. They make me cringe more than the idea of your painkillers...
By the way, is anyone here knows where to download the new Japanese verision of Dictionary Tooltip? I'm so inconvenienced to read English web pages without this Firefox extension. :(
I walked 45 minutes to the electronic place, bought a webcam, and then found out that it only works with windowsXP or vista. TT___TT
oh well. I'll have to return it this weekend and try to find another. ...guess I should have been careful to read the box. >_>; Thanks for everyone's comments on my blog btw. n_n I try to reply to all of the comments. n__n<3
btw, it was groundhog's day recently, and apparently we're going to have 6 more weeks of winter...but the weather is already clearing up for spring!
I like to imagine that when I fall asleep my head becomes a planet and the dreams I have are really caused by the moons that appear and orbit me. It's a comforting feeling.
>>401 Sorry about that. Almost the same thing happened when I bought CD-RW. It turned out that the CD-RW media I bought was not suitable for the CD-RW Drive of my PC and I had to take it back to the store.
I don't know abuot America but there's a loophole to get a webcom and headset free of charge here. You register as a webcam girl and the company that runs the service send you webcam and headset. After that you can work as a webcam girl or you don't work if you don't want to.
No quota for a webcam girl as for the time she has to be online. Once you have them sent webcam and headset, your puropose is accompilished. I said, webcam girl, but in Japan, you don't have to do striptease or other cyber sexual things. Of course, there are adult types of webcam servises here, but many are non adult and amateur girls such as housewife, university student, part-timer are earning some money by working as a webcam girl.
All they have to do is chatting with men. I never want to pay money just to chat through webcam with a woman but I heard it's a lucrative business. You can imagine, some men ask you to take off your shirts or other things but you can just say, this service is non-adult.
>>401 I think the groundhog's day is one of the least well-known day in Japan. It's on the opposote end of Christmas and Halloween in terms of how many meople know it. It's like beaver like creature get out of his hole and see if spring has come or not. And if he does a particular behavior, it's considered that spring has come and if not, It's still winter and things like that as far as I know.
I'm going to work now. I want you to play nice at school today and work hard. And please, honey, no more fighting with the older boys. Your lunch is in the fridge and I cut off the crust off the peanut butter sandwiches the way you like. I love you!
>>379 Thank you very much. Using the webste, wayback machine never occured to me.
Lot's of doctors and nurses in hospital. It's impossible to get involved with all of them. But from my limited experience, it seems like not all doctors and nurses have the same attitude toward patints.
Some are very empathetic to patients, some seem to treat patients like a commodity in a factory's assembly line. It's interesting that you can judge what kind of attitudes doctors and nurses have toward patients just by exchanging a few words with them or by how they look at patients, by the tone of voice etc..
Basically, patients are gloomed, pecimisitic in a way because of desease they have, so I want doctors and nurses to be really nice and empathetic to patients. Worst type of people in hospital are people who take care of patients' patying the bill. They treat patients really bad. Their job is routine work so I understand they tend to be unfriendly and unkind but I want them to be act like more professional.
I'm not white, and not a nazi. But I feel these works are not art. absolutely degenerate, decadnnt art, not suitable for kids. That movie seems to be created by a swedish national socialist. http://www.den-svenske.com/ On the subject I think he is right. Am I mentally ill and biased? How are you guys, especially north europeans?
I think Marc Chagall and Egon Schieleas as such nazi persecuted are art. I don't think today's degenerate arts that I showed will be approved even after 60 years.
>>412 Yes, you may be a lunatic, a minority of one. But never mind. Sanity is not statistical, as a famous writer said. Believe in yourself, your decency.
>>417 Wow. Am I lunatic? lol I want to know if you are disguted watching "those arts". I was disgusted. FYI I don't admit vandalism. Freedom of expression must be made much of. But I don't think those are not arts. And those should be stricted to open public exhibition.
hi guys, i'm german and wanted to check out the "biggest internet forum world wide" without the help of the google translator i would be hopelessly lost ^_^; i plan to learn japanes starting at the end of the month and then visit japan i love japanes girls... they look soo cute ;)
>>434 Willkommen in 2ch! I'm studying Deutch ,English, and French. Let's do our best each other :-) Please tell us something about german when we ask you, bitte!
I am really exploding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I applied for a homestay program on January 28th, but I've not received any respond yet until today. So I send an email to the homestay company to make sure that they are going through my application. And then, they sent me a resonse today that says "Copied below is the email that I sent to you on January 29th 2008", and there was the copy. So I thought maybe I overlooked that email, then I checked where that email is in my inbox carefully and thoroughly, but I coudn't find it! Then, I send an email to the company, asking "You din't make arrangement for my homestay until today?", and then, the company replied "No. Because we could not receive your reply to the email we sent to you on January 29th."
What?!!!!!! If I hadn't sent the make-sure-email to the company today, the company would have not start making an arrangement for my homestay! What a nightmare!!!
I rewrote >>468 because I found many mistakes... So please do not read >>468 and please read the following:

>>467 Why Magibon, though? Just because Leah Dixon will go back to American, it doesn't mean Magibon take the place of Leah, you know. And first of all, what is she winning? Sure, she made big money by youtube partner program, but she also lost one thing. She has too many haters from America, where she belongs. She says again and again and again that she wants to go visit Japan, but what for? To become a celeb? I don't think she will have a chance. The Japanese TV industry is not so incompetitive. She has to sleep with a TV producer, like it or not, if she wants to cut a remarkable figure in Japan. Magibon's grabbed attention mostly from American people or English speakers. Not so many Japanese people are interested in her. So all she needs to do is make love with a big shot in the Japanese TV industry.
I like the pop music of Japan even if most of it seems like girly and cutesy-poo bubblegum pop. AKB48 is now popular, yes? I like them but it's hard to take them seriously. Most are very cute but it seems only a handful of the girls are truly talented. I'm very impressed with T&C Bomber but, unfortunately, they didn't last long as a group. Maybe it was because they were older than most acts? I wish I knew of Japanese rock bands to follow as that is more my style of music.
>>480 I think I've only heard 2 songs by utada hikaru, but I've liked both of them! maybe I should look into her music more... a lot of people seem to like her.
The results of Super Tuesday: John McCain made impressive victories and is now the front runner for the Republican nomination. While there's an equal split between McCain, Romney, and Huckabee in the number of states won, McCain won states like California and New York which have more delegates.
The Democratic nomination is still a tug-of-war between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. Hilary won big states like California and New York and that makes her a strong contender for nomination. However, Obama won the primaries in more states than Clinton which gives him a strong number of delegates also. There's still no clear front runner for the Democrat nomination.
Tuesday was the day when I was supposed to see my doctor but he was absent. Maybe his close realative has died and he has taken a few days off. They didn't tell me why he was absent. A female doctor saw me instead.
She is not as empathetic as my doctor and the way she handles my foot lacks in tenderness. I recognized again, he is a doctor I can put my full trust in. He listens to me very well with empathy. He doesn't seem to think a doctor is sperior to a patient.
It's said that first impression counts and lasts forever and the same is true with my doctor. The moment I saw him long time ago, I thougnt he is a good doctor and I can trust him. He never fails to meet my expectatin ever since. Writing this, I found this post to be uho. Maybe that's because of a pinkiller I put in my anal these days.
Last night I didn't put a painkiller in my anus before I slept. The level of sleep was not so deep but I managed to grab 7 hours of sleep without waking up in the middle of night. That's a good sign although I can't breath a sigh of relief yet. I still have this strange uncomfortable feeling in my foot many times in a day. Recovery seems to be at a snail pace and that sometimes irritates me but there's nothing I can do about it.
I have to keep going to hospital in the morning to get IV drip. Three nurses take care of IV drip patients. Two is middle aged women and the other is a young woman. The young woman looks like a quiet type and doesn't look friendly. She just does her job and doesn't talk with patients much. That's OK as long as she does her job. I know nobody wants to be critisized by neet about their job attitudes.
Friday is the day I'll see my doctor. I don't know what's happened to him but I hope he'll be all right. uho
Could anyone, please, translate lyrics for this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDOrv5GsdlI ? It's "Requiem for Phantasma [25,Dec]" by Hatsune Miku (vocaloid). Someone attempted to translate in comments, but it looks like incomplete translation. Thank you for your help!
Just drink some vitamin C and take a walk in park. It helps. Enjoy your life no matter how bad the current situation is.
I'm first year student of the same university third time already! And I have big problems with exams AGAIN! It's very dishonourable for me. If I would get expelled again I would become desperate, but may be I'll find the way through. I had suicidal thoughts some time ago, and then mocked them. Not just I got rid of them, but I also had a some laughs. Even if I would be kicked out, I will probably go to military draft myself, maybe I'll find a job. My main problem is that I can't pay enough attention to studies, I just keep losing my time without doing something worthy. But no matter how bad my lifestyle is I enjoy living.
Ha, I was NEET a year ago! That was a time! Just like "Welcome to the NHK" manga. While my friend was just laughing at it, I was looking in the mirror. And got twice as much of joy!
>>515 I always feared the day when the presidential race would be between a woman and a black man. No wait, actually, I didn't. Seriously, who could've possibly predicted this?
And for god's sake, don't vote for that horrible woman! I just know that the US is gonna be worse off with her than with Bush, so for the love of god, vote for Obama.
>>518 Hey, how are you? Are you doing well? Feeling fine? That's nice to hear. Listen, can we speak frankly for a moment? No consequences and no hard feeling afterwards, O.K.?
You're being tedious. We get it; America is a flawed nation. Congratulations for expressing an opinion! Now, let's move on to something more important, shall we? Or, at least, make a more astute observation of the United States and its culture? Hmmm? Can you do that? Good. See, I knew you're smarter than that. I mean, really, did you think you were saying anything new? Did you honestly think anything you pointed out was refreshing or insightful at all? Why keep bringing up a worn out and sarcastic viewpoint? Are you empowered by such a thing? Does it truly express your full views? Is your opinion so shallow it's essentially a weary and sarcastic barb against my country?
Anyway, I don't mean to harp on it, but, please, everyone, if you've got nothing to say that could contribute to these threads, it's best to reconsider posting at all. Thank you for your time, >>518 Here's to hoping you'll post again soon.
Hohoho, Mr America, the superpower of the world, will never allow people to post, even though he himself contributes nothing to this thread. How beautiful and friendly. That's why I like America a lot.
>>516 Reportedly, Middle-aged women voted for Hilary Clinton because she shed crocodile tears. I don't buy that, though. Hilary Clinton is the one and only woman who can unite all the people and manage to fulfill her promises. She alone has what it takes to be president.
>>514 The only consolation for me is that i don't drink and smoke. You know lonely, disruptive indivisual immersed in alcohol usually end up in tragic ending. The worst case is jeffrey dahmer....
Maybe taking vitamin c and take a walk(light exercise) for a change are good. hahaha, also I'm not gay. But I and jeffrey have Loneliness and (a little bit) good looking in common. haha jeffrey is extremely handsome. I'm just average or above average though. I was approached many times in my highschool days, but I was too shy. It's my repent.
Leah Dizon showed her nipples before she became professional. MRirian's stared at her video camera before she become professional?
MRirian is boring, isn't she? Why are American making respond-videos to MRirian? American people seem to like MRirian to be successful in Japan. Without American haters, MRirian would've never taken care of. Hmm, MRirian is really good at tactics. She used American haters to be big on Youtube.
>>522 crocodile tears phenomenon was out of expectation for me. cos I thought compassion was japanese thing. I presumed americans prefered a strong, agressive leader. I thought her weakness showed her flaw in the qualification of president. But her act seems to have been intentional.....
>>524 leah looked like a typical white trash bitch in every corner of america. (leah is half white to be excat though.) She had a pierce in her tongue. And her way of speaking was very foolish. Her akihabara ohimesama character is not her real character. So she may have been feeling stress to pose artificial character. She may have been feeling stress for japanese tv program, which is more controled and set in advance by tv staff.
Americans are actually very sentimental people. More so than French people for the most part.
The French truly elected a strong, aggressive leader. Americans like to elect people who look like their neighbor or some nice guy. It's totally emotional and arbitrary.
A large part of the voters don't seem to care about the candidate's competence as a leader at all.
Sorry, it was no offense. But many fields medalists seem to be jew. mathematicians are like modern mountain hermits. It doesn't have a direct relation with daily life. But it's a miracle tha men's potency can create. But I'm not talented with math. So it's better for me to spectate math.
Yes, I guess so. I myself love to study. Some ppl ask me why you are always studying? I always go....I dunno...>,<
I just want to know new things. I am a curious person. Intelecutual stimulation is something like "nutrient content" to my senstivity. I would say if I would be 1000x hard worker than today, I would have been a researcher of some important institute....but I am too lazy. I like to study. I can't live without some intelectual stimulations.
>>504 Thank you. From my veeeeeeeeerrryyyyyyyyy limited experiences, I've never seen food court in Japanese hospital. All I have ever seen is just a usual style restrant or cafe. I wouldn't want to eat at a restaurant or caffe in hospital when I visit someone at hospital. Because atmosphere of Japanese hopital tends to be gloomy (from my limited experiences, again) so I have impression that foods served there don't taste good.
>>505 No. She doesn't look hot at all. I've never seen a sexy female doctor, including the ones you sometimes see on TV shows.
she's a erotic funny doctor. She has everything: fame, money, beauty, she probably owns a hospital. But she's still single. she doesn't seem to get love forever. a lonely woman but lovable in a way. lol
ex-boyfriend the other day. He has asked someone's help and advice, like me... Because he is really worried about his job these days. Such as he's thinking of going to quit his job and so on. To tell the truth, I broke up with him about 5 months ago. He's 5 years yonger than me. He graduated from university in Nagoya, and decided to start new job in Osaka last spring. After few months later, he got transferd to Nara. He was really busy from then on. (He is still busy now) He couldn't take a day off,and had to work overtime. So it was so hard to keep relations between him and me at that time. But we still keep in touch by e-mail once in a while.
I wish I could help his matter. But I couldn't advice to him easily... I hope to it turns out well!
I'm sorry for writing my poor English diary. Thank you for reading.
I feel sad since イギリス人's gone. he must have been busy in scoop on japanese girls in mixi.
hey Do you guys know japanese band "skoop on somebody". http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=WMs0bB-_Ti0 Their song reminds me of british music style, which I don't know what to call technically. Rick Astley would match with their song. I think they are doing very well as japanese. A vocalist has high, still strong voice. His natural looks is one of regrettable point.
>>562 lol Yea,, we are. That's why we like being anonymous on this huge bulletin board too. It's weird, but being apathetic sometimes makes a comfortable space. I'm not that fond of the crowd either though.
lmao didn't Clinton get voted/decided on just recently? Although I think Obama would've been a great president as well... hahaha as long as Bush is outta there!!!
>>572 Glad you are here! I've wanted to ask you, if you happen to know any good introductory linguistics books that are probably used in universities in the UK? I found some on Amazon, but I can't tell which ones to buy....... If you happen to have any idea, could you kindly let me konw the book titles? I promise I will never make fun of your hats collection! Thanks.
I'll try and post more if I can find them. Most universities have them listed on their intranet sites, but these aren't accessible to outsiders (me). Feel free to say what you like about my hats, though; I won't get too angry, and promise not to kill you or your pets.
From self-teaching languages, I've found the Oxford books to be the most informative and useful to follow. The only book I've found to be even more useful was a 'Teach Yourself...' book, last published in the 1940's, and that's what I'm using to learn Russian. Much better than the modern versions.
>>580 Thank you sooo much for finding those links for me! You've been a great help! I'll do some looking into now. A bit too early maybe, but Happy Valentine's Day to you♪
>>579 Stop fooling around! He's not a shemale! He loves MRirian, did you forget?
>>580 Oh, and I should inform you of this.. MRirian was finally invited to Japan. She will replace Leah Dizon. Keep supporting her from the shadow. ^_~

I'd like to get the book from the 40's to talk like a dude around that era. But no idea what their speech patterns were like, esp in the UK. I've only read a few American literatures like The Great Gatsby, The Grape of Wrath, Death of a Salesman, etc.

I saw Leah's nipples, but I haven't seen Magibon's yet. So I like Leah better for now. But if Magibon uploads her boob photos, I'll deffinitely love her more than Leah.
If Hillary wins in 2008 and Bill is 'appointed' to fill her Senate (BOY - I hadn't even heard of this possibility!!) seat and either live to retire 'they' (together or alone) would get two US Presidential retirement checks, two US Senate retirement checks, and a retirement check from the State of Arkansas . About the only thing they MIGHT NOT get is a Social Security check....but I wouldn't bet on it....
I understand ole Bill has earned $40,000,000 in the past six years.
What a guy!
AND THE REST OF THE STORY... Hilarious Rotten Clinton , as a New York State Senator, now comes under the 'Congressional Retirement and Staffing Plan,' which means that even if she never gets reelected, she STILL receives her Congressional salary until she dies. (Would it not be nice if all Americans were pension eligible after only 4 years?)
If Bill outlives her, he then inherits HER salary until HE dies. He is already getting his Presidential salary until he dies. If Hillary outlives Bill, she also gets HIS salary until she dies. Guess who pays for that?
It's common knowledge that in order for her to establish NY residency, they purchased a million dollar-plus house in upscale Chappaqua , New York. Makes sense!
They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life.
Still makes sense.
Here is where it becomes interesting Their mortgage payments hover at around $10,000 per month. BUT, an extra residence 'had' to be built within the acreage to house the Secret Service agents.
The Clinton's charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is about equal to their mortgage payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clinton's salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the salaries for their 12-man staff -- and, this is all perfectly legal!
hasegawa jun seems to be race doping, which is just a generate mixture for neonazi by the way. haseagwa jun tuns out to be mixed race as I expected. But her face is more asian and can pass as almost pure asian.
島田紳助が「日本で一番可愛い」と絶賛し、また紳助曰く周りの人物にも評判が良いという。 Wow, japanese ugliest and wealthist comedian said hasegawa was the cutest. nauseating. shinsuke has to know where he is. uglist man is not compatible with a model. is he trying to promote her by the power of money and in return get her?
>>559 hey~that's pretty cool! the song is sort of a funk/house genre. :D
That NY prank was so awesome. @_@ If that happened to me, for a split-second I probably would have thought that time had stopped or something. >_>;;
I was wondering, what are some of the more popular sports in Japan? I've heard that the older generation likes sumo, and the younger generation likes baseball.
>>610 Hmm, Sumo is sure a traditional suport of Japan and most of its fans are conprised of the older generation, yeah. But baseball is widely accepted, though it's getting a little bit unpopular. As I see it, there are several reason that I can come up with for now (but it's better not to talk about them. it's a long story. ^^) As far as the younger generation alone is concerned, succer is a very popular support here. Basket ball is really popular as club activities in both jr high & high school, but not so popular as a professional support. In the meanwhile, volleyball is another popular (semi) professional sport because of media hype, even though not so popular as club activities. It's complicated. XD
>>613 Hi Keira. Questions for you. I need to learn English as quickly as possible. Do you know any pills (Medicines) or something to learn English ASAP... so I can buy from some store…? I only need to speak English for 2weeks next month...
I wish I had a SD card memory slots on back of my head... Maybe Nintendo should work on it!
Hey keira, how are you? Kids play baseball or soccer most and are taught about cooperation and teamplay through them. I used to skateboard, so I'm still not good at teamplay. hehe... Are you updating your blog or starting a vlog soon, btw?
>>616 That's a hard one. D: Sorry, I can't help with math very well... I guess 4(x-1) would be "4 times the sum of a number decreased by 1 "
>>617 Hello there!<3 Skateboarding is pretty popular for kids around here for transportation. As for my blog, I'll probably update tomarrow, since it's a free day. I did buy a webcam last week, but it's not compatible with my computer, so I have to return it and try to get a different one. .__.;; But I won't give up!
>>619 I wish there was such a medicine, but I guess You'll have to settle for study-food like bananas and eggs. xD practice and study! it's the only way! In the larger cities in Hawaii, like Honolulu and Waikiki, there are a lot of signs and receptionist for japanese travelers. But if you want to practice english while you're there, it's easy to strike up conversation anywhere. Hawaiians are very friendly, and the tourists are friendly too, since they're happy to be on vacation. lol
>>614 >Maybe Nintendo should work on it! Why not try DS software, then? I don't say "eigo duke", but when I searched amazon.com the other day, English-learning software (word quiz? or something like that) is also made in america.
The problem is, they don't seem to ship the software to Japan!
>>620 I bet. A longboard wouldn't match the scenery here though. :( Good. I was gonna start explaning every single word grammatically on that one otherwise. Are you a mac user?
>>624 lol, on my blog? xD I'm surprised by all of the kind comments actually. everyone is so nice. ;__;<3 no, I'm not a mac user, it's just that I have to have XP or Vista as a requirement.
>>625 Okay, I'm not gonna ask you which one you're using, though Linux would be really surprising. But seriously, if you need, you can ask questions there too. That way, people can comment easily, also.
>>631 I guess you meant to say, "What do you say "禿同" in English?"
禿同is a short form of 激しく同意, which is not an acceptable expression except in 2ch and means "I'm totally agree with you." 禿 and 激 as in 激しく(はげしく)has the same pronunciation so 激しく同意 is changed to 禿しく同意, and the shortened to 禿同. In a nutshell, when you write 禿同, you are playing with words.
What is so funny about 禿同 is 禿 means bald head or being bald. Another version of 禿同 is 禿上がるくらい同意, which would be translated as, "I'm totally agreed with you as if I was going bald" or "I agree with you so much that I'm going bald."
So, let's go back to the original question, "What do you say "禿同" in English?" I would translated that as " I 'bald'ly agree with you." I'm not a native English speaker so I don't know how the sentence I translated sound.
Since 禿同 sounds comical and induce a laugh when you read it, an equivalant exression in English has to have the same effect. When I take that into accoiunt, I'm not sure my translation is good or not.
I hope some native English speakers or people who are fluent in English give me better translation.
^ I guess that's the perfect translation. I had that kind of image. ppl on 2ch often say hagedou. but I didn't know exactly what it means. Thanks for your detailed explanation!
>>639 I was curious to know if you are a native speaker or not, so I was wating for your answer. You must be >>601. Your laugh is unique. I prefer Takamisakari's nipples by the way.
>>640 Thank you very much. Are you a native English speaker? I am glad you gave me a feedback no matter if you are a native English speaker or not, though.
Are there anyone who try to translate 禿同 in English? I want to see how it is translated by other people.
If I had to translate it, I'd probably just translate it to "I agree so much that I could go bald", "I agree to the point of baldness" or something like that.
why we would get bald when we totally agree with one idea? lol I think when we totally agree with one idea, the positive brain chemical would be produced and feel good and that substance would give us grow even more hair. lol
If you take it as the context and translation of "I baldly agree", the adjective 'bald' can mean 'undisguised' or 'blunt'. So as an adverb, it would mean "I openly agree".
However, this isn't funny or comical at all, and probably has no connection to it whatsoever...
>>643 >"hageree" lol That's a good one. I laughed!! The only problem is that almost no English speakers don't understand "hage(禿)". But I admire your sense of creativity.
>>644 Ah, Thank you for your translation! Somehow I prefer the latter, "I agree to the point of baldness." I don't know but it sounds more comical. Maybe it's just me because I am not good at English to the extent that I understand subtle differences of nuances. Writing this post, I began to feel the former sounds funnier. I don't know.
>>645 The funny thing about 禿同 is that while you understand that the poster agrees with someone's post, the image of bald head pops up in your mind at the same time.
>>646 Thank you for your feedback. What you say does make sense.
What about this, then?
I am with your post "bald"ly. I meant to connect two sentenses. One is "I am bald" and the other is "I am with your post." To add " " or to bald or write like, BOLDly, with capital letters is the key.
Hmmm. probably even when you read "I am with your post "bald"ly," it doesn't sound funny at all.
must be better. I changed the word order. This is easier to imagine this sentense consists of "I am bald" and "I am with your post." Probably this alternative fall flat.
>>655 I feel like crap. I don't have any friends, I don't have anybody to talk to, and I want to go out with some friends tonight. I'm so bored that I'm about to go crazy.
657 :keira Japanese version:2008/02/09(土) 00:09:03
>>656 why? what is the reason? You should enjoy your life, dude! you are the one who create your own life. there isn't anyone else to make your life better than now :/
>>657 I don't know, I just ended up this way after moving to a new town.
I want to go out and have fun tonight, but I don't have anybody to go with. And I'm not the kind of person that can befriend anyone just by talking to them in a bar.
oh ok. I just think if you feel uncomfortable being alone in a bar, just don't go. and if you go crazy being alone in the room, go out and do something to make you feel better. good luck
>>660 well the one who is suffered from depression has no motivation for anything. They get even more depressed if encouranged by someone. gambare! is the banned word.
good luck for your threesome tonight! woohooo!!! if you would report it in LIVE, it would be foursome or fivesome sixsome lol!! i envy you that you have many balls with your body lol
Damn, I wish I could be one of them light-spirited people that can make friends anywhere, anytime, without even trying. Instead, I'm the sort of guy that needs like a year to get one friend. Ah shit.
>>680 really? but you know we don't all have to be that easy going or light-spirited peple. you have your color. that is your original character and it is ok that way.
I just opened my second beer. I'm gonna go out to eat Chinese soon, I think. I just wish I could fucking meet someone already. I'm sick and tired of being alone.
Since I am still awake, I just clicked MRrian's youtube. I saw magibon for the first time. is she cute?........... I wonder....she acts nihonjin gonomi no onnanoko...I dunno how to say it in English.
Anyway, same here. Sort of. But two of my best friends are people that I've met randomly; one of them even in a bar, and it just turned out that we had a lot in common as soon as we started talking.
I guess what I'm saying is "you never know". Ah, never mind...
>>691 Yeah, those two were my replies, along with this one.
So I went out for Chinese, then I hit a pub and ordered a drink. Just when I was about to leave, this group of two guys came up to me and started talking to me. One of them was an asshole, but the other one was alright, so I pretended to take note of his "wisdom" about women.
The weird thing was that I didn't even try to approach someone, but I was approached by these two guys and I had kind of a good time tonight, even though I didn't know any of them, I just had a good time because of one of the guys.
>>692 oh that's a nice thing to hear. so when your sensor is in active mode and always looking around and trying to get a chance to talk to somebody, nobody would approach and when you are thinking nothing, ppl would approach you. That's interesting. lol
Gotta go to hospital to get IV drip now. I have to go there every day. No weekends for me. I am going to hospital almost every day these days, (three weeks or so) and I'm geting tired. Once a neet staying at home all day, now a neet going out every day.
I saw my doctor yesterday. The condition of my foot is going in the good direction overall but the pain I feel occasionary in my foot hasn't improved much. The pain isn't the root cause of my problem. The other factor caused the pain so, IV drip and injection are things to remove the root cause of the pain.
While my foot condition is going well, I still feel relatively severe pain in my foot regardless of time of a day. Lots of cycles of the pian surging and waning a day. I told my doctor that uho painkiller and a tablet painkiller I take through my mouth don't work well. I lack in sleep every day.
I asked him if there are more powerful painkillers, no matter if they are uho type or the type I take through my mouth. He said there is but it is a morphine type painkiller. The female doctor I saw the other day told me, she doesn't want to use it. Seems like morphine type painkiller is used as the last resort.
On the other hand, my doctor doesn't seem to mind using morphine type painkiller to me but he says if the painkillers I use now doesn't work well, chances are, the morphine type doesn't work well enough, either. What??? Do I have to keep bearing this pain every night, having trouble falling asleep, waking up a few times during night if any type of painkiller doesn't work? Very gloomed.
The doctor's solution is to change the amount of IV trip. I used to get 100mg IV drip and from yesterday get 250mg IV drip. That means longer time to get one container of IV drip done. It takes about 90 minuites. I hope the change of the amount work well.
I'm getting sick of going to hospital everyday. But I don't have any other option. I gotta go now. uho
My adorable woman seems to be living in the same place. seems to, because the adress and home are still there but it's not sure she is living in the home now. I don't know whether she is living with another guy.
Am I stalker? I don't care. I am prepared to end up in miserable loser. I'll get what i deserve. Once she was chasing me and I escaped. this time I'll chase her. I don't care if I'll be brushed off completely. I too relied on her maternal instinct, and I presumed she would not betray me anyhow.
>>697 that kind of woman would never leave anybody alone since she is too gentle to anybody, or any living nature in this world. the more you have problem, the more she would care and try to help you to resolve the problem with you. but she also has life. so if you would like to continue to rely on her maternal instinct, don't annoy her too much. she would come to you when available, I think lol
But two many years have passed and I had sulked and been stunted... I was just like a babe. If i had brought up a nerve, I could have stopped her going another guys... then malignant cycle. I once ignored her confession and passed by her watcing straight. because I didn't have a nerve to respond to her. I was(am) timid. so I try(tried) to cover up my timidity by arrogance.
what a fool i am(was). yeah, I am ready to end up in loser. Loser is good. cos that's what I am.
By the way I want to thank my dad.... I am emotionally unstable... Dad sorry to have kept complaining about you this and that. You were not a kind father but you left the bright side of the thing for me. you definitely gave me a catalyst to improve. I wanted to end earlier and that's the best. But without a start, nothing was gained.
Dad you were a awkward, stubborn man. So he couldn't show love and affection in the ordinary way. You somehow tried to keep in touch with children. I have to understand...
He is good in nature. sorry. didn't love child? never!
>>700 you sound very backward and forward at the same time. when you want a help, don't hesitate. just be open and talk what you really have in you mind to the person you trust.
I have a same problem of the relation between my parents. I know that they didn't mean to hurt you but they unconsciously hurt you very bad. that's also because of their wrong childhood caused by their own parents. If you'd become more mature than your dad, you would start to have a compassion to your dad's own problem and would have capacity to understand him well. That way you would be able to gain release from the bad chain. Those who would be able to cut this bad chain are the ones who are truly respected. I hope you would get in touch with your adorable one one day after you become more mature.
i have to get over the past. I'll take whatever outcome.
I'm ready to be told "too late, affection dried up". What I scared most is being turned down coldly and bashed.... good, good. What is more scaring is not to know the fact. I can't start the new day.
>>702 Yeah, I also can't get along with childern(not my son, I don't have son, literal children) naturally. I am very awkward. I can't laugh and play games with children naturally.
I feel sick and nauseated.... MY heart aches... my chest cries... Do you know when people are in real bad mantal situation, they would feel in the chest not in the brain...?
>>704 .........well to love somebody or being loved is the second thing. I think the first thing you should do is to stand by your own feet. not to rely on others. (say may lies and try to control the person's mind etc).
>>705 children are irritating. but they give us energy. ....what was your problem?
>>703 Not that bad.... I sometimes got a slap on my face and was once confined in the barn as a punishment. but confinement is only one time. No severe physical attack. rather mental scar. we hardly did catchball. We were so awkard and we talked just like questioning and answering. It might be just an emotional dependence compared to really abused child.
>>708 yeah, that's what I meant. Not many ppl get abuse from their parents but mental scars. well you seem to have a same personality with your dad. I don't know really but I feel that way. so I hope you would have more compassion to him and be nice to him so that relationship would change and thus the relationship with your friends and etc also would slowly change.
>>709 He set aside time to talk with children : study. It was not voluntary. It was order from above and not fun at all. I think it was his way of communicating with children. We have rarely have time to see each other's face and talk except that moments.
But I wonder if I could reach today's level by myself alone. I start to doubt it. So I used the word catalyst. So I feel obliged to thank my dad.
I was the only child who couldn't rebel against him... don't care.
I'm not>>701, but While I don't like my dad, I depend on him deep down in me. I wonder what being independent mentally from parents means. How can I be completely matured? When can you say you've grown up to be an independent adult?
parents are just human not the universalist. so they make mistakes. but they are the ones who affect us the most. let's say some parents often compare the siblings. they are the people who cause the rivalries of us. of course in the society, school everywhere we have rivalries but the basic concept of rivalries, jealous emotion are made in the family. and the parents are ones who play this significant role. we hate parents'wrong education deep inside since we want a lot from them. (we all want to be the ones who are praised the most, get love the most). But anyway, one day we discover they are just human and have a lot of weakness with full of flows, it is the time when we become matured persons. independent adult. I think.
I forgot a very crucial thing. You need to include a seasonal word to make it Haiku. I changed >>721 as follows.
Alone in the cold Putting a painkiller in my anal thinking about my future
A seasonal word in the haiku is "cold"
>>722 lol >>723 That's a return haiku to mine? At least you seemed to use rhyme technique. pain and gain rhyme with each other. And I hope you are not uho pretending to be a woman. uho

My friend told me yesterday about one site, "chinesepod" (dot com). It seems like you have to sign up in order to use the site, but apparently there is some stuff (mp3 and PDF of the first 100 lessons) available if you do a search over at your favourite Scandinavian swashbucklers. He said it was pretty good; I wouldn't know.

native english speakers? I'm a native english speaker -- i'm a University of Wisconsin Student (hence the name...) I hope the kanji is showing, up, right now I have a ? instead of the middle character.
You've heard of it? That's so cool! I'm hoping to study abroad in a few years. The UW (University of Wisconsin) has pretty good exchange programs with Sophia, Keio Universities, as well as in Nagoya and Sapporo. Maybe that's how you knew it?
these universties are pretty high on the list of universities in japan. I suppose sapporo means university of hokkaido.
>Maybe that's how you knew it? nono, I'm neither alumuni nor student of these universties. I just happen to know your school name. We often hear the name through news and so on. Arnold Schwarzenegger should be one of alumni, right.
Yeah! The Governator is from the University of Wisconsin, except he graduated from UW-Superior, and I'm at UW-Madison. It's the same program, but in different cities. Most of the time, however, "University of Wisconsin" means Madison, because Madison is the capital of Wisconsin.
I'm surprised the name is mentioned in the news. Maybe because I live here, I usually don't hear things that would be internationally notable.
To be honest, I didn't even know UW-Madison was so high on the rankings. I wouldn't necessarily call it "prestigious" in terms of all the universities in the nation, but as for public state universities in Wisconsin, Madison is #1. I'm satisfied paying in-state tuition rather than going to Brown or something more prestigious.
Hmm... State Ivy? There's an idea. When people think of the Ivy League, there's Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Yale, and all those. But State Ivy? That probably changes from state to state. Madison is the best out of the Wisconsin schools (public, not private), and every state has their own rankings like that. I don't know any other individual state rankings, though.
>>758 I got that when I saw the wikipedia link. In that sense, you're right! All the Ivy League schools are private, and really expensive. Since it's public and I'm from Wisconsin, my tuition is a lot cheaper. Plus, I feel my education is good as well.
>>760 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a really fun place. I have a lot of friends who go there. The night life is completely different in Milwaukee than it is here in Madison, and it's a good place to visit!
http://www.freewebs.com/criminallyinsane13/jeffrey%20dahmer.bmp I like his eyes. vacant and ironic eyes. glancing away. But inside wrath and pride. He want to make himself understood but soon he gives up on the idea and look away... I feel great sympathy with him. very sad life.
>>762 Nah, mainly house parties with people who I know. It's more the people who are there that make it cooler. They often go out to bars, but when I'm there, we usually don't. People come over to our place, and we have a party.
>>763 I've posted on here before, but not with this name. I'm a Computer Science and (maybe) Japanese major. If my schedule works out right, these two majors should work together perfectly.
>>767 I don't know who that is, and I'm not about to read a 50 page essay about him over at wikipedia. Can you sum up everything about him in one paragraph?
Jeffrey dahmer killed close to as many as twenty men(almost blacks). He killed in various ways, for example by injecting sulfuric acid into the head(he tried to make the robotomy) and put the man in the container and immerse sulfric acid in the container.(can you hear the scream?) He disposed corpses in various ways, for example by boiling chopped bodies in the pot and eating. he seems to eat the raw body too. He displayed skulls in the refrigirator.
He slept with dead bodies and had sex with them. He just needed love...
Wow, that's one fucked up guy. That's far beyond "just needing love". No matter how deprived you are, no normal human being would ever do anything like that.
he couldn't get along with real people. so he made people stay together forever. dead men won't talk back. they would stay together forever with jeffrey. He even ate them. at last he could assimilate with people as one.
Just the fact that some of you are sympathizing with this nutcase is pretty damn horrible. There was nothing good nor noble about his actions. Do not glorify him.
>>783 Raping men? Gimme a break. It's only when I put a painkiller in my anal that I become uho.
I wonder if university students overseas majoring in Japanese have a class of haiku. I'd appreciate it if you showed my uho haiku to your professor and have him grade it.
Do you know the news of Namdaemun? I'm wondering who placed fire it. If Korean believe Japanese did, they will place fire Japanese cultural properties, maybe.(((( ;゚Д゚)))ガクガクブルブル
Can someone from Japan tell me what's going on in this video? My Japanese isn't good enough to understand everything that's being said. Is it just some very very roneri guy camwhoring?
>>807 roneri guy? What does this mean? How did you come across this video?
He seems like a famous neet in 2ch and uploads his own videos to niconico video. Someone seems to make a thread for him in 2channel's Youtube (and other video sites such as niconico) board. http://pc11.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/streaming/1196829446/
Just skim through the thread but it's not that the thread was made by his fans. It's the thread to tease him in most part. That's my impression. I'm Neet, too but I feel shame about it so I don't understand why he kind of like boasts about his life style.( I don't know precisely if he boasts about his neet status or not but that's just my impression.)
I don't want to waste my time watching his boring video for about 15 minutes but if you really insist you want to know what he is saying in the video. I'll give you the summary of it. But not now. I have no time now.
>>810 Thanks man, that's more than enough, I'm not gonna make you sit through that (I skimmed through it, and he used alot of time on eating instant ramen, only god knows why).
I've been reading Sun Yat-Sen, today, and his ideas about an effective, modern China at the beginning of last century. It really depresses a NEET to have to read all about excellent citizenry and personal civic responsibility, the effective survival of a nation and the crucial nature of education...
pffft... and for what?? sixty years of communism?

No seriously, it roused me a little, I think I better go to bed early tonight and get up at a reasonable time...
Hi May I ask a question? I took a Rikyo University entrance test two days ago, and there ware a few "EISAKUBUN" questions. One of these question was, [あなた次の選挙いつって言いました?] so I wrote [When did you say the next election is?]. Is this answer grammatically correct? BTW, pardon my poor English sentence....
>>791 Chances are she would be jeolous of the new breed of haiku master's talent whose main theme of his haiku is a painkiller in his anus.
>>793 Your hike sure has a seasonal word but doesn't include painkiller?
>>797 I got it. Thank you. I thought they could be used interchangably. I repeat, "I put an anal painkiller in my anus in the darkness shivering with cold, feeling uho feeling in there".
>>823 is right. But you tried to post in English so I'll respond to you. I think your answer is right but I am not certain.
Rikyo is the university which gave Bill Gates degree/diploma because he quit Harvard and don't have a degree when he visited Japan. I don't think he was happy about it because it was just for publicity of the uni. Rikkyo is good uni but not in the group of the best universities, so Bill Gates derson't give diploma from the uni a fu*k.
Koda Kumi cried and said sorry in public? I've just heard it few minutes ago. I didn't know she has done something wrong. But somebody said her popularity is in a slump. Why Yosui ga kusaru is bad?
I've heard one story from one of my friends. In his kindergarten there was a tom boysh girl in his class but she suddenly absent herself from the school for a long time. one day, the teacher announce everybody in the class "Kyoko-chan (Kamei) is going to be a boy from tomorrow. So let's call him(her) Kyo (kamei)"
He was wondering what happened to Kyoko. But as he recall her she was just like any boys including her appearance so except he acknolwledge her as a different gender, the whole things won't disturb anybody at all. But I suspect she was born with both genital organs. I envy her.
>>831 Androgyny and hermaphrodism can mean the exact same thing, but using the term andogynous can also mean other things, such as if a person just looks clearly neither male nor female (in dress, appearance or behaviour).
Now I need to go out and buy a saw. Spent an hour sawing a hole in a shelf big enough for a plug to fit through, but the saw was far too big and also rather blunt... I hate DIY.
>>837 >But I suspect she was born with both >genital organs. I envy her.
I wouldn't envy that. She can probably never get a hard-on, she probably has reduced sensitivity in her vagina, and making children is out of the question.
>>843 do you think so? but how can you prove it even you have never experienced being as the one? she would be vey sensitive and give a delivery by Caesarean section operation. lol
>>841 I have never heard the word hermaphrodite used in that way, but I suppose it's possible. I'm sticking with the strict biological definition though. Snails and worms and flowers.
>>847 Sorry, I meant that andogyny and hermaphrodism have the same base meaning, snails, worms and flowers as you say. Androgyny is the one with other meanings as well.
>>852 maybe Asashoryu is excluded from the notorious group by now. and koda has a bad reputation recently but that's what only media say. In a reality nobody cares.
The reason why I like Igirisujin-san is because he always keeps the line that barely over between normal and abnormal. I mean he sounds pretty decent and normal but he alway comment on the silly theme with his low-keyed tone. Is it a common English man's attitude? we can also call his character as "muttsurisukebe". むっつりすけべ sorry lol
talks of weirds? so many weirds and they are taken for fun. but what is the use? no use. don't we want anything that is useful? can you give me any thread to which we can lay strings so that we can get more and better things from others? besides, being honest, i'm a bit too idle topick up the meaning of andogyny or hermaphroism. but for curiousity, i pick up, fu~~~~~~~~n, but so what? that's nothing to take fun from. what matters is how each one loves.
are morons male gay prostitutes who sell bodies to foreigners in the Red Square? and are they poor enough to sell their bodies for money? i konw russian males are usually so handsome, maybe, some may dazzle foreigners eyes.
yeah Sawajiri and Akanishi two have bad reputation. but I saw Akanishi in Kat-tun on the other day. So I suppose he returned to his band and does activities once again. as for Sawajiri, ppl used to laugh at her but probably forgot about them since poisoned gyoza overwhelmed the old news. lol
>>867 No, because I'm almost a hikikomori already!
I was a hikki a year ago after I got expelled from uni. But I put myself together and passed entrance exams. And now I'm step away from becoming a hikikomori again. My life is fucking ruined, I dunno why I'm sitting on 2ch right now, when I have to revise. Tomorrow is my last chance...
Ah, I missed discussion about hikikomoris and NEETs!
>>872 yeah, that's true. don't immerse yourself too much. but when you are lonely or you are bored, you can come over here and chat. that's how you should use 2ch. hehe
This is so depressing. My dog LuLu is missing. She's deaf and 13 years old, so we hope that someone will find her and bring her home. ;___;
>>875 looks like that the main problem then is the computer so you'll have to start using it less and less. maybe you can think up some sort of system for using it less? >>879 's idea might be the simplest. :)
>>878 I used to play on a small server (300~400 online), met some new people during offline meetings. But I almost lost contact with them now...
>>879 Good idea. Until a couple of weeks ago my PC was on 24/7, because I tried to host my website (no one visits it anyway) and BOINC. But my PC is pretty loud even though I changed all coolers to silent ones. So, I woke up in the morning and my head hurt. Now I'm turning off PC before I go to bed, but it's on all-day long. I can't make myself to turn it off when it's unnecessary.
Ok, I'm going to implement new rules for myself! ― No fapping for 40 days since 12 feb. ― Two days without PC twice a week. (ha-ha, this resembles me: "Yay! Today is my online day!")
>>882 It's very hard to stop it. It's psychologic dependance like smoking or such. Every evening when I turn off PC I hear silence... I feel like I'm free from something that holds me and I sence yet another wasted hours.
I can sit at my PC for hours, understanding that I need stuff to do, getting nervous about it, but... still sitting.

I hope he/she will get back to you as soon as possible. If there's a center for stray dogs or something similar municipal institution, it might be a good idea to call there to make sure if LuLu is under protection there.
>>889 I suggest you keep that stuff in your own furry communities. You don't see me boasting about getting turned on from eating goat shit, do you?

In order to radically improve my life, I will study the art of pick-up artistry. I will become an awesome pick-up artist, and have loads and loads of friends.
Fantastic! Found a sort of coping saw called a 'fret saw'. The item description says: "Fret saw for cutting work in thin materials such as WOOD, BONE, PLASTICS, etc ideal for model makers. Comfortable wooden handle and steel frame."
So not only can I cut a plug-sized hole in my shelf, but can also dismember corpses for easier disposal!
>>857 Ah... thanks. It's said to be quite typical of an 'English attitude', but I think it's dying out. We're supposed to be quite dry and sarcastic, with a habit of understating things. It's not such a good idea in today's society, though, as people will often misunderstand or just not understand at all. I blame this on the media influence of typical American comedy, which is much less subtle.
>>894 Catching up is getting news starting from old things which you missed, up to what's totally new. Keeping up is finding things out when they're still new and not letting yourself fall behind.
say like, "hey, i'll catch up with you later" this means like "you know, i don't have time right now, but let's find time to talk or do stuff later"
keep up with is totally a different thing
u use it like "hey, you keep up with it" when s/he is doing something that s/he wants to accomplish so it's more like, "hey, don't give up, you will make it!" or something like that

and music style like bryan ferry and petshoboys and human league faded out. they are pretty arrogant and narcissistic.
superb for a neet? Neets have a lot of time at hand so diligent type of neet who likes English study hard to turn thier life around.
But they have years of blank in their resume, without job history, so it's difficult for them to get a decent job. Employers usually doesn't like the years of blank in thier resumes. Maybe I'm wrong but That's what I heard.
>>901 In the sentence, the auxiliary verb before the subject is the inversion. If *here* is a native English speaker. At the foot of the stairs *was* she. The most common form of inversion is when asking questions.
On another topic, some of you may know that tv-links.co.uk was taken down a few months ago, due to legal action. However, http://www.tv-links.cc now exists, with an index of links to English-language television shows. This is a good substitute for those of you deprived of your media and want some more practice in listening.

You should go there, and you will like Kurashiki, probably.
>>911 I should probably have said involves the inversion, not is the inversion. The inversion is the process of putting the auxiliary verb before the subject.
>>917 I don't know much about it. Maybe you are right, maybe not. But what if a neet is out of job for 5 or more years? What if he doesn't have a good communication skill?

I'm a big fan of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" it's a funny show. Are there any of these for Japanese shows? Not anime, but current shows that go on? Maybe even live streaming TV where I can see what is actually on at the time?
whatevr the language is, there is a root of language. It is the subject and its predicate. I assume there are three kinds of subject and predicate. the first is telling existence. second is telling action, function. third is telling state or character. the first goes with a nown and be-verb second goes with nown and usual verb which in japan is called more as general verb third goes wih nown and adjectives these three are all about subject and predicate. one more thing is needed if you won't be aukward or weird in speaking. that thing is to add axiliary
With all thse four, you can go all right with any language. With English like the following.

If keira has been lived with Lulu since she was a puppy, then that means she had met her even before Keira became a teenager.
You can say she grew up with Lulu. I can imagine the dog is an integral part of her life. The younger when you meet a pet, the stronger the tie to the pet. Lulu must know keira's ups and downs in her life. Lulu must have keira's complains about her life, petting her, as if the dog have known what she is talking about.
Dog is a companion animal and a member of a family. I hope she'll show up in front of Keira's house, looking as if nothing had happened.

Again, your best bet would be to type or copy&paste 嚦咕嚦咕新年財 in the search box of google, for example, and click on the button. You'll get thousands of results just from doing that.

>>932>>933 I'm neither 810 nor 921 but IMO, it's not use even if you encourage NEETs that way. If they would get up by the words of encouragement from the ppl around, they would have got up long time ago. sorry if I would sound pessimistic. I think they are deeply hurt by the bad experience suffered and words by people around from the childhood. most of they have had miserable life bullied by children. So they don't want to experience it all over again. That's understandable. They are vulnerable and being more vulnerable makes them being more bullied. If that case in other countries, weak people often fall in alchoholic but in Japan there are many alternatives, anime, game electronic things that keep them companies in the room. Also they are still children at heart (even how old they are) they easily indulge in their own world and shut their mind. Everybody knows it so I didn't have to explain to you haha
Anyway, if I were a teacher of one NEET, I wuold probably try to contact him gently and listen to him carefully and try to let the school be easily accessible place for him. I'd try not to say something directly hurt his feeling and let him do what he likes. If he feels ok to come to the school once a month, it would be fine and I won't push. then if the school would be a comfortable place, he would come twice a month....but that better than nothing.
and it's easy to call them "weak" or "loser". They know that they are. but everybody has the reason why he/she is in that status. If you'd forget the "cause and effect" you just would ruin his life together with your life. if you'd become a parent one day, those good good children all of a sudden become horrible kids at the age around 15,16,17, then you never know why this kid's life suddenly head downhill in a month or two. There is always a reason. parent blame himself not knowing his child well and knows that he/she has to refrain what he has done/or what he hasn't done but everybody's too busy or just don't have any idea and keep doing the useless effort.
>>969 that's only you. it's not a matter of spoil. strong ppl are strong all the time. weak ppl need the PROCESS of recovery. that's why I don't like northamericans...they thing being "STRONG" is the only the value.
>>971 I'm from north america, and I agree with you. It's not always important to be strong. Especially for people who are weak. You can't make a weak person strong. There's nothing wrong with being weak -- they will probably be more sensitive too. But in some situations, it's best to at least pretend to be strong until you are out of the public eye. You can acknowledge how bad you feel, but you don't have to cry with everybody watching you.
>>972 I know that is very Japanese value. if I were in america and raised in multicultural society, I would definitely say other things. But here is only monocultural society. very delicate and fragile but at the same time talented ppl invent something really interesting. you know there are a looooooooot of talented and smart kids who has been reconcile oneself to a NEET. they need a courage...but it cannot be made in one day or two.
>>973 I appreciate that you said you understand even you are northamerican.
>But in some situations, it's best to at least pretend to be strong until you are out of the public eye. You can acknowledge how bad you feel, but you don't have to cry with everybody watching you.
everybody knows the logic, but how? we are exposed to many types of insidious bullings from the childhood. You never know how insidious Japanese society is. well some weak and fragile and smart and sensitive ones would feel more than ordinary ones. parents and teachers are the ones who should lead them to the better direction, but when there is none they often shut their mind.
Japanese hate blacks and japanese women are sluts that open theoir legs easily to all races but blacks.
Think you dumb yellow idiots, it's not Blacks giving AIDS to japanese women, it is the non-Black gaijin that the whores love so much that spread STDs, as well as the faggots (okama in your language).
And yes, I am an "anti-semite". I know that the zionists were behind a whole lot of shitty things.
>>974 I don't know how people understand it. Maybe a lot of people are born with it? Crying, and other forms of showing weakness, is embarrassing. Probably because it makes you feel inferior to those around you. Then, because you don't want to feel embarrassed, you hide it. But once you are gone and in private, you are free to (and I think you should) cry all you want. It doesn't matter how weak of a person you are.
>>979 ah, I don't know. I used to be hikky before but I am working now. today's my holiday. I don't think those bullied children cry in front of many classmates. I don't think he/she shows their weakness in a blatant manner. Yeah, I agree. There are many other societies that would accept them. So if the one hates the school he/she belongs, she can just go to another society. That's easy thing to do. Let's ask the real NEET why he doesn't want to go to school.
>>979 You got it all wrong. Crying is, despite what you might believe, in most cases a sign of strength. It shows that a man (or woman) has the ability to be emotionally connected to something, which proves that he is capable of e.g. loving someone. It also proves that instead of holding everything pent up, he is able to release it and not go on a killing spree.
The exception to this is if you start crying after getting a small, almost unnoticeable scratch from some semi-sharp object.
Of course, the chances of you brushing this away as bullshit are high, but with today's "politically correct" society, I don't really blame you. It sure sucks though.
>>980 that sounds like a good idea. I'm sadly becoming more and more NEET/hikky as time goes on. I mean, I'm in school (uw-madison) but other than school, I don't leave my room very much. I'm in a fraternity, but I rarely go to the events. It's one of my only outlets to having a social life that I have.
>>981 I won't brush it off as bullshit. I'm interested to hear opinions on it. I'm just speaking from my own personal experience. In my past experience with friends, and (especially) girlfriends, at certain times crying is not what you want to do. I know what you mean by crying after a small, almost unnoticeable scratch" so maybe that's what I was doing, and why things didn't work out for me.
But I think that if everyone cries together, or a person cries for a good enough reason, then the people will connect with them. Crying can be a bonding experience between people, if it is done in the right circumstances.
Sometimes they need to be in touch with their feelings, I don't deny that. However, you can't just keep on feeding their weakness by allowing them to indulge themselves. Encouragement is surely important but in some cases, they need stimulations and surroundings that make them realize that they are the only ones who can change themselves. That's what I meant by don't spoil them, anyway.
yeah, I agree. Crying is the utmost stress relieve.
>>982 me too. when there is nobody interesting around, why should we get along with somebody boring spending long time with them. hikikomori sounds negative but I am occasinally hikikomori. well let's ask one of the real NEET what he thinks about his life...but I bet nobody would respond. (that's because they are NEET. they are harmless that's why they won't speak out) lol
what's weird is that I'm good with people that I meet for the first time. So I don't know why I'm kind of hikky right now... I would like to be a teacher, I think I would be pretty good. Except for those kids who need the punishment to proceed. I'm better with the kids who need encouragement.
>>987 yeah, I agree I'm also good at treating the wound. I mean I once deeply wonded so I know how to treat it. I'm not a nurse but kind of good at human skill in a sense. (I just don't want to be involved in human matter these days. it's too troublesome...) so the good teacher would be the ones who have same experience with the students. well teaching skill comes first though.
Obs: Everything I'm gonna say below this paragraph is my own personal experience, and it might possibly differ slightly from others' experiences.
The only thing that MIGHT help "cure" a NEET/hikikomori, isn't to encourage them per se, but to actually order them to get off their lazy fucking asses and fix their fucking lives before you bash their fucking faces in with a steel rod. Either that, or force them to get counseling.
In the end, though, a NEET/hikikomori will stay a NEET/hikikomori no matter what you do, if there isn't as much as a tiny speck of motivation in them.
Also, I believe that showing them that you sympathize with them only makes them more content with their situations, which you don't want to do.
>>988 yeah for many peple it would be effective. but not for me. not for everybody I would say. I can also read the opponent morive so I wouldn't do as they wish.
