keira, can I pick your brain about English grammar?
We are stuck in a rut about an English sentence in another thread.
can you read the sentence in question and hummer out a good solution?
"I don't know what that is makes me that way."
Do you think the sentence above grammatically make sense?
The point is, "what that is makes" -blahblahblah...
What "that is" in it used for? I don't think it's short for "that is to say"
meaning "in other words".. What do you think?

Doesn't sound right. I suppose it would sound better as :
" I don't know what makes me that way."
If the "That is" (short for "That is to say") would be anywher ein that sentence, then it should be at the beggining.
"That is...I don't know what makes me that way."
And even then, It only works conversationally.

Agreed. I think it's just fine to admire another culture, so long as someone doen't WISH that they were from another culture. Because people should be happy for who they are!

According to the person that posted the sentence,
it's an exerpt from sample sentences in a grammar book by a Japanese author.
(and honestly I've never seen a sentence like that before..)
