But Elvis did not change history because of his musical genius, rather, he changed history by showing the music industry how a pop idol could make millions.

That position states that books tell stories that can be deeply personal, movies further refine that (or trivialize it/miss the point entirely, depending on your reference), while games... well, games don't present stories as well as either (for the majority of people). Instead, they allow for interaction, something that no movie really does well, and only choose your own adventure books did reasonably well in the past (for a medium that wasn't a video game).

Next year we will come to Japan again around May - we would love to experience ABC-festival aswell, or is the festival being held in April? April would be to soon for us, since we will start a study next year.
I didn´t mentioned before, but I spent two months working in ○○ Spain!I met there some very kind japanese colleagues. They all were secretaries of the president, Mr. Fujuoka. It´s interesting how are organized the japanese companies all around the world: for each department, you can find a double authority figure, I mean, the local boss and the japanese boss. It´s a way of controlling that all the decitions are taken following the policy of the company. For us it´s not a problem, because the japanese people act in a very respectful way. Recetly I left the company, because it´s located very far from my home. But it was a great experience.
Do I tell you we move to center Paris a few months ago ? We now live a few minutes walking from the museum Le Louvres (Do you know it ?) and the japanese district near the opera and the stock exchange building. We got tired of the time it took to go to Paris from our previous home so we took advantage of a great offer for an appartment rent and we moved.

おねがいします。 Mexico Life imprisonment is defined as any long and indeterminate sentence ranging from 20 years up to a maximum of 40 years. The Mexican Supreme Court ruled in 2001 that life imprisonment without the possibility of parole is unconstitutional because it is cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of Article 18 of the Constitution of Mexico. Subsequently, many American criminals were alleged to have fled to Mexico specifically because they know Mexico will not typically extradite them to any U.S. state (or any country) where the maximum sentence imposable exceeds what is permissible under Mexican law. The difference between the American and Mexican views of life imprisonment caused high levels of friction in cross-border politics until further judgments by the Mexican Supreme Court reopened the possibility of extradition. Ramón Mercader, the assassin who killed Leon Trotsky with an ice axe, served only a twenty year sentence before being released in 1960.

1992 Los Angeles riots Underlying causes Racial tensions The fracture between Korean-owned businesses and the black residents they served was also especially pronounced. The black community complained of poor treatment by store owners and inflated prices.
Acrimony between Koreans and blacks peaked in a video-documented incident involving a 49-year-old store owner, Korean American woman Soon Ja Du, who shot and killed Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old African American girl. The incident occurred on March 16, 1991, which shortly followed the Rodney King beating. Du confronted Harlins over a $1.79 bottle of orange juice sticking outside of her backpack, although she did not notice Harlins approaching the counter with money. The security video recording of the incident shows Du initiating physical contact by tugging at Harlins' sweater during a verbal exchange before Harlins countered by punching her four times in the face, hard enough to knock her to the floor. Du responded by throwing a stool at Harlins. As Harlins walked away, Du fatally shot her in the back of her head. Du was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and given a sentence of 5 years' probation, 400 hours of community service, and a $500 fine by Judge Joyce Karlin after the jury in her trial had recommended a 12-year jail sentence.

"There is no accounting for tastes,"says the proverb. At least as far as art is concerned, this is certainly true. Some like modern art, while others prefer classical; some like abstract art, while others prefer realism. However, when it comes to landscape painting, there are few who will not consider Joseph M.W.Turner the greatest.
"One, two, three,"we shouted again and with our voices together as one. All of us believed that water would soon flow from the ground so we repeated the action over and over. When we had pounded the iron pipe eight meters into the ground, we finally saw water come up. We shook each other's hands and cheered. We had helped to get water for the village's 150 people. The water could also be used to grow the trees. The kudzu plants have grown quickly in the area. When I saw that, I realized again the importance of our project. Over time, the kudzu and mahogany planted by villagers and volunteers had rooted and grown in an area covered with volcanic ash. 訳お願いします

Like the teaching of anatomy and the historical activity of surgery, most transplantation today is undertaken in a medical marketplace of sorts. As with corpses in the past, organs now have internationally ascertainable value. Market conditions, and the characteristics of individual organs (freshness, age, tissue type), can affect therapeutic desirability and therefore value. As was the case with suppliers of dissection material in the past, organ brokers now tend to be a different professional group from the surgeons actually doing the transplanting or organs.

Professionals benefit from the business, but as was the case with bodysnatching and requisition, the victim/donor receives nothing in return. Reciprocity is not a feature of the system. In the past, medical benefit accrued to those further up the social scale, who could purchase expertise gained on the living and the dead in public institutions. In many parts of the world today, the direction of benefit remains recognizably similar.
The other tenants had wondered for a while why mrs. Kerley had allowed Anita Lowe to stay on 2-A. But they finally understood why. Mrs. Kerley was a belligerent sort, happiest when she had the most to complain about, when she had someone to bawl and shout at. Mr. Kerley had served in that capacity until he wearied of it and died. After him came a succession of tenants, the present incumbent Anita Lowe.

In the grave-robbing era, the value of whole bodies was enhanced by the facility with which the corpse could be quarried for teeth, hair, skeletons, and so on. Parts extracted were sold to those who could use them, such as dentists and wigmakers, and to those who assisted medical research and study, such as articulators of bones for medical skeletons, and medical-specimen makers. Profits were to be made at every stage.
Today a similar process is under way, involving the quarrying of as many live organs and tissues as possible from any one body ―organs, eyes, skin, bone, membranes, glands―all of which have therapeutic, research, and potential money value. A recent report concerned a U.S. case of a man shot in the head, whose body was quarried for parts. It was later discovered that he had been HIV positive. Efforts to trace those who had received tissues from his body revealed that fifty-four parts had been removed from his body, but that only forty-eight of them could be traced. Apart from that spread of HIV to a large number of people, this case illustrates two fundamental points: first, the enormous potential value of a single human body as a result of the transplantation process, and second, the fact that the administrative tracking of live tissue is so inadequate that fatally infected tissue can apparently become lost in the system.
It is easy for those of us who are not historians to kid ourselves that nothing like this has ever happened before―and that, because it has never happened before, it cannot really be happening now.

Bodysnatchers who dealt in dead human tissue in the past were free of government surveillance and control. Even under the Anatomy Act, anatomist's breaches of law and decency were overlooked for the sake of keeping matters quiet and the public in the dark. Today, those who obtain and deal in live human tissues may believe themselves similarly placed, as society's control of this field remains seriously inadequate. よろしくお願いします。

There is a hung mango tree near the village that survived the eruption. The tree is over 100 years old. It is a wonderful 'playground' for children and is always full of happy faces. It produces 1200 kilograms of mangos every year and is a very important way for the villagers to get money. The head of the village, in his parting words to us, said: "We planted trees together. Our spirit will always be united as long as the trees grow, even when we are apart from each other." I feel we have become very close to the villagers during our three-year project. The project is successful because we have faith in each other and because the heart of the project is not us, but the people who live in the area. My greatest hope is that the mahogany trees we plant this year will grow as big as the huge mango tree and will benefit people 100 years from now. 訳お願いします

It is a truism of market economics that goods much sought after, but in short supply, fetch high prices. The scientific and therapeutic importance of the human corpse in the past was reflected in its commercial valuation. The attachment of money value to the human body provided the incentive to crime. High prices, severe shortages, and fierce competition between “consumers” all served to weight events in that direction. Doctors obtained human bodies in ways beyond the law of the day ―such as grave-robbery and theft from gallows or institutions―by offering money for their procurement.

Just one nitpick for now: you couldn't possibly put it at the top of the page rather than right at the bottom where most people aren't going to see it, could you...? Although I have pretty much no design sense, so if this really irks you then never mind.
The historical summary (see table 5.1) identifies several key factors which, in the 1820s, permitted corpse “procurement” to develop into something far more sinister and dangerous: ・increasing demand for human tissue ・shortage of donors and public resistance ・competition among users/consumers ・money values attached to human tissue In Burke and Hare's day, these were reinforced by two closely related factors: the ease of concealing the identity of the human source, and the ease of destroying evidence of crime. お願いします。
Such phonetic advances are not "merely academic" pursuits in the derogetory sense that "academic" sometimes connotes. The application of these efforts has given us the benefit of such modern but irritating devices as the endless range of mechanical gadgets that "speak" to us.
And it is not merely the content of a literary work ―the "action" or the theme―that carries ideology but the form as well or, as most Marxists would argue, the form primarily.
There are in fact dreadful precedents in history: times when whole groups of human beings, men and women whose love of life was no less than our own, have gone almost without protest to destruction.
Even after he got into an university near his home, he didn't start playing again. Somehow he just seemed to lose interest in the piano. Everyone in the country seems to be aware of this variety to some extent, and most people take this diversity for granted much of time. Variation in dialect, and especially in pronunciation, however, is a subject about which most people when pressed, and many people without requiring any invitation, are quite prepared to express an opinion.
Perhaps one of the most remarkable and chilling of the many affinities between the two eras under consideration is that all these factors are to some extent active today in the new field of transplantation. The benefits accruing from the quarrying of a single human body are comparatively as great, or indeed greater, today then they were at the time of the Burke and Hare murders. The theft, or surreptitious removal, of body parts is already known to have occurred. The incentive to procure premature death in order to procure human organs already exists.

Volunteering is often expensive and should never be undertaken lightly. Potential applicants must answer some questions: Am I comfortable with the mission of the agency I want to work with? Will I tolerate the living conditions? Can I cope with the poverty and culture shock? Will I find satisfaction in my work? Will I miss my lifestyle too much?
The motivating factors that lead people to become volunteers vary from person to person and may change dramatically as they face the reality of being a volunteer. An individual's reasons for volunteering ― whether selfish, generous, or a combination of both ― are not necessarily right or wrong , if they are well considered.

Each year volunteers apply in the thousands to hundreds of agencies organizing volunteer job positions.
Some people volunteer to escape a busy urban lifestyle: the constant noise of city traffic and the pressure to play accepted social roles. The vision of a simpler lifestyle, possibly in a rural location abroad, is attractive.
Other are attracted to the challenges of a volunteer position. Leaving home for up to two years to live in a foreign culture is a huge and frightening step for most. The potential for personal development can be seen as reason enough to pursue a position.
At least as important as the labor and professional, expert knowledge which volunteers bring to the host nation are the cultual exchanges that take place between volunteers and local people. Both cultures benefit from this higher level of understanding.

These simple tasks may be supplemented with insurmountable obstacles. Thanks to the Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device, the impossible ... is easy. Let's look at a real world example.

At the Enrichment Centre. we believe that the highly motivated test subject can carry out rather complex tasks while enduring the most intense pain. So in case you don't make it through the testing, bye bye.
I am finally enjoying my time since the beginning of the year. I had some hardships too. (don't we all?) My grandmother passed away while we were visiting at Thanksgiving. We were extemely close. I was lucky because I had her until 94 years old. I then returned to CA and started a difficult shoot for AT&T and another right after that for a 3D project about monster trucks, also very difficult. Long hours, lots of stress, working outside in the rain, demanding people, really everything was hard!I got to do an easy job in Hawaii 5 days last month and now I am off because I am taking a class in Dispute Resolution(or Mediation) I want to find a way to make more money with less hours on the job. Some of the strange drawings in the notebooks were for inventions that he came up with as he watched birds in flight. He had made drawings of aircraft , parachutes , and even prototype helicopters. Moreover , his notebooks contained drawings of a machine to cool the air , cars ,and even machine guns and tanks. Just imagine that five hundred years ago , there lived a man who thought of such new inventions , many of which are part of the worlfd we live in today.
Maybe it's best to look upon America as a beaker in a laboratory, as a grand experiment to test whether so many different elements ─with more and more being added to the beaker all the time─ can blend successfully together.
Obviously, not only America's future is riding on the outcome of this experiment.
America is the world in microcosm. As America goes, so goes the world. So much depends on what we do here. It's not an easy task, not a light responsibility.
The people of New York had been warned. For several months, when they watched TV, they saw messages prepared by an organization called the Citizen for Clean Air, which also published messanges in the newspapers telling the people about air pollution. One such message said:“Tomorrow morning when you wake up, take a nice deep breath. It will make you feel sick.”
Flame war Reacting to someone's newsgroup posting or e-mail in a hostile manner by publicly chastising the person or bombarding the person with nasty e-mail. Flaming may occur to users who ask stupid questions or who engage in behavior that violates what is considered proper online netiquette. A flame war occurs when two or more users flame each other in an escalating manner that threatens to continue unabated. A conflagration in which lots of people jump in on different sides of an argument and start insulting each other. Fun to watch briefly, but a major waste of bandwidth. Flaming The act of calling into question someone's thoughts, beliefs, and parentage simply because you don't agree with them. Originally, flame meant to carry forth in a passionate manner in the spirit of honorable debate. Flames most often involved the use of flowery language and flaming well was an art form. More recently flame has come to refer to any kind of derogatory comment no matter how witless or crude. Don't do it.

I would like to explain what happened to me and why I have not written for such a long time. Since November last year, I have taken on a new responsibility in my work. As you might know,my old company,BB, had been bought two years ago by AAA. Following this merger, a new position has been created in the translation department where I work, that of a Language Manager. I applied, and I got the job. The Language Manager is in fact the country manager of the German translation department. I am supervising 9 translators and I am responsible for the relationship with our vendors (translation agencies). I have never worked as a manager before, and I was and still am very busy learning about all the new tasks I have to perform now.Only now I am beginning "to see the light", I am starting to feel more comfortable in my new role.In February and March, I have taken two holidays.I first went to see my sister in the USA.She has been living there with her husband and her two little boys for more than two years now,and it was the first time that I went to see her. Only a few weeks later,I took a long vacation of three weeks, and me and my boyfriend went to Namibia. We have never been to Africa before, and we were very impressed by the wide horizons and the lack of people. The population of all Namibia is only over 2 million, and the capital,Windhoek, has only about 50.000 inhabitants.Compared to Munich(1,5 million inhabitants)or even Tokyo, this is very small!Namibia is a very dry land, part of it is desert, part of it is semi-arid.Especially in the south, agriculture is not possible, the only thing that people do for a living is cattle raising and tourism. The country used to be part of South Africa and has only been released into independence in 1996,so there are still many South Africans (white people) and even Germans (the country was a German colony until 1915).It was very strange to speak German in an African country! We were so far from home, but still some things were like in Germany, for example afternoon coffee with a piece of apple cake. But what I liked most was the wild nature and the wild animals(ostrichs, antilopes, wart hogs etc.)that roam freely the country. It was strange to see that the big farms were all owned by white people, the original inhabitants, the black people only worked as farm aids, cooks, servants etc.But this is not a very stable situation, since the Namibian government is thinking about expropiating the white farmers and giving the land to the black people who want their share of the country as well.It is a very difficult question, and you can see some right on both sides.

What, you got a problem with furries? I think furries are fucking hilarious. Nice part about the cosplay folks is they actually care how they look, most of the time. The furries, on the other hand... absolute worst of the geeks there are. You get the impression with them, they're better off under the outfits, hiding the stamp of late-70s DEC hardware they tend to radiate much of the time. I think the difference with cosplay is most people grow *out* of it. With the furry thing, it's a lot more about most people growing *into* it.
I perfectly understand that you were busy.I think work must be really important for Japanese people. I recently learned that work colleagues occupy the front positions at tables during a wedding ceremony. This is totally opposite from my country, where family sits colsest to the bride and groom. Do you think one can say that for Japanese people work is more important than family, considering the long hours that Japanese people spend at their work place and the fact that the birth rate is decreasing?

Often one of the stumbling blocks to living a simpler life is our inability or unwillingness to change how we play some of the games that got us into these complicated lives in the first place. For example, for many years I was driven by the "need" to maintain our home to certain standards of cleanliness, organization, efficiency, and so-called style. After we'd taken some of our first steps toward simplifying, such as moving to the smaller place and changing a lot of our buying patterns, I realized this was one area in which I wanted to make some significant changes. よろしくお願いします。

I think I'm going to the Jerusalem University (which is considered 82 out 100 in top universities around the world) to study Economics and East Asia, I'm still not sure of which route I want to choose in East Asia, since you can learn either on China or on Japan and on one hand I L-O-V-E Japan very much!! but on the other hand, China is a developing country and its Economics is growing unlike Japan which according to what I've read has stable Economics and is a very developed country (I have defenitely seen that :) therefore, I think I'll take China. They'll teach me chinese also - oh my God - I'm gonna speak chinese - that is so funny :) I also had visitors from Singapore last week, those were a few professors comingfor a visit.

えーと、うまくいえないんですが、時制のことじゃなくて、either orの場所が変じゃないかってことです。 he had either discovered 〜〜 というのと、 or having realized 〜〜ですよね。 辞書にはeitherとorのあとに同じ格の単語がくると書いてありました。
とすると、 he either had discovered 〜〜, or having realized 〜〜ならeither とorのあとの単語が揃うような気がするんですが。
>>990の文ではeitherはhadの後にあって、orのあとにもhaving(時勢が一致するから意味上はhad)があるから、 orの後の文は had hadって2つ重なるような気がしませんか?
