Let's all paint this thread red, you, NEET, foreigners with body odors, Anime lovers who download them illegally, perverts, people who think the sun goes around the earth, guys who insist Yukorin's fart smells like middle-aged men's!!!!!!
>>21 How you write matters just as much anywhere. It's the same as your verbal communication. Would you have spoken with such an accent at for instance a club, or at school? Your intentional abuse of a language doesn't make you seem cool. It just makes you look stupid.
There was no opportunity. There was no pause. He just kept talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt, it was really quite hypnotic.
Do you know Japanese mass media reported yesterday repeatedly that 3 American girls got arrested for hurting a girl, 3 on 1? It said they uploaded video files on the Internet. Where can I take a look?
All I know about the violence is that the beaten girl asked out the boyfriend of one of the three. There was a boy at the spot but he didn't even try to stop it.
Thank you for making part 76. I like chatting across international boundaries. It's fortunate that so many Japanese people know some English, since my nihongo is pretty poor.
>>1! With this many replies already, this thread will be a sure success! If people truly would not like this thread, they would ignore it and let it die in peace!
>>77 Love and hate are two different sides of the same thing. If people wouldn't care for this thread, they would have denied it attention. Many of the people who yell at >>1 do not even sage their comments, giving this thread extra attention. If you want something to die, you deny it attention, because the more that notice whatever's being given attention, the more people who actually enjoy it will find it.
F*ck Hirohito piece of sh*t! U gave us nothing good. U r less valuable than a bag I killed now :D For your uncoutable f*ckin crimes, u were, are and will be burned by fire of the HELL with Hitler & Mussolini!! Only never-in-schooled bitch respect u, f*ckin criminal! We Japanese will judge your crimes and execute your dirty decendants as french & Russians did! F*ck tenno!!!
however, it's nice to walk around in. I take a tram from now and then, just to sit in it and watch the city flow by. For hours. Kinda useless, aren't I!
>>151 Thanx for showing us the photo of leiden. That's exactly the image we have for Holland, with those windmills, streams, green, etc. Oh, and Tulips! I wish to visit there sometime.
>>187 Really? I thought you were school girl for a long time. I guess she uses "lolz" instead of "lol", though. On American keyboards, "~" is the "`", which is left of the "1" key.
>>191 It's useless when writing in English. It was meant for writing in languages with diacritical marks, I think. However, it is used in some programming languages, and Unix shell script.
It sounds like some people here need to gb2/b/. As an aside - it's fascinating to see the people on anonidate.com/, the anonymous dating thing set up for the 4chan /b/ crowd. The average age seems to be about 20.
I'd like to know how old the average 2ch person is.
208, I see. I wasn't thinking in that context, for whatever reason. Then again, the only thing you'd see an exclamation such as that here would likely be in imported manga.
>>199 What a coincidence, I was listening to the same record now! their songs are great, but I like the first album better. Their music belongs in Gothic metal, but clearly it has an American feel to it too.
>>210 >What a coincidence, I was listening to the same record now!
are you sure about that@.@?? But anyway, I also prefre the first album, and in fact, its title tune "Bring me back to life" is my wakeup music. The lyrics even matche the situation, lol~~~ "( Wake me up ) wake me up inside ( I can't wake up ) wake me up inside (Save me ) call my name and save me from the dark ( Wake me up ) bid my blood to run ( I can't wake up ) before i come undone ( Save me ) save me from the nothing I've become"
>>209 You are right, those are the likely expresssions you find in the comics. The other day, there was a TV program on TV, expaining how to use the expressions like "Duh!," "Doh!" and "Score!" I found that to be very amusing~~
214, Hah, yeah. Though, those expressions are used in everyday speech too! However, I can't recall the last time I heard someone say "score" in that sort of manner o_o. Though, I suppose it does likely get used; it's just not ringing a bell, so to speak. Hell, maybe I use it and am not aware of it.
>>216 You must be damn right about the usage, because the American person explaining those expressions on TV came to Japan in the early 90's and has live in Japan ever since. He also was introducing the valley speak such as Gnarley, Radical, Tubular and Awesome, but the caption said "Those, except 'awesome' are passe, and not used any more."
217, Oh god, I haven't heard those in forever either; only when people are trying to be lame :P. On another note, even in the early 90s, those were a bit odd to encounter. I am American, by the way, if that hasn't been made obvious.
218, Perhaps; though, to be honest, popular vernacular doesn't phase that much between coasts here. Like I said though, it's just not ringing a bell. In other words, I could even be using it unknowingly; certain terms are like that sometimes!
223, Well, I didn't mean in the meetings >.<. I mean, if I'm flying between countries, I'll inevitably meet people there casually. It'd feel kind of strange being all formal with casual acquaintances. Not to mention, if I become fluent, I'll become comfortable with the language anyway.
>>225 I've never heard someone say "Lovely weather for ducks" in my entire life. That right there is an odd sentence. I mean, it's fine to use, I suppose, but it's strange.
>>225 I can see it being used if you're around a whole lot of ducks, or are hunting for ducks, but nowhere else. It would basically be saying "Regardless to as how I like the weather, it is good weather for ducks to be out."
However, otherwise, it wouldn't be used, really. It's quite vague. (Sorry for the double-post, but I wanted to point that out after-the-fact.)
>>229 If you're looking to insult someone, especially in English, at least get your grammar and spelling correct before you do it. Otherwise, if you wouldn't mind, please don't pollute the thread with your nonsensical statements.
>>235 I see. Well, back then, you were more likely to hear the phrase "as cool as a cucumber" than you are now. Now it's mostly used by people who are 40+ years of age.
Any recommended study tips for learning kanji? Hiragana and katakana were very easy to learn; I learned those entirely - each in less than 2.5 hours. However, some of these more complicated kanji are difficult to remember!
>>238 Unfortunately, I can't think of any quick & easy way for mastering Kanji..... Like you have vocab. tests at school, we have Kanji tests at school, and gradually acquire them. For both Kanji and English vocabs, I used the authentic method of writing them on paper as many times as need until I was sure I remembered them, but if you have such a good memory, you may be able to acquire them by only reading many materials written in japanese......
>>241 Yes, but unfortunately, whilst English only has a limited number of characters, Japanese has thousands. I'm not having a whole lot of trouble learning them, it's just that it's frustrating when I forget a stroke or two on a more complicated kanji. Ah well, thanks for the reply, in any case!
There are many phrases that are heard in various media such as TV/movies/books that aren't really used in real life. For example, "totally" is sometimes used to mean "yes", but I don't think I've ever heard it used that way in real life...
>>Ether I don't know which level of Kanji you are talking about, but if you're still learning the first grader's level of Kanji, you must learn them one by one, copying each kanji on paper. But if you are learning higher level, you would realize that some kanjis are composed of simpler elements. Each element has its own meaning.
>>246 I have just started kanji, but have learned a few of the more advanced ones as well. I have indeed noticed that they are made of simpler elements, but for one reason or another the meaning isn't always clear to me.
>>251 I'm a native speaker myself. Lived here all my life. I hear it like that commonly, from males and females alike. Where do you live, precisely? Maybe it's a regional difference? I'm on the east coast.
A Japanese elementary school kid learns 1,006 kanjis in six years. You have to at least be able to understand, read, and write them. But IMHO, you don't have to be able to write kanjis taught at high school. Understanding and reading them is necessary, though.
>>254 Yeah, but that was very rude >.< lol. Careful or you might offend people x.x.
>>253 So I've heard. However, I'm good with language, so I don't think it will take me nearly that long. Also, I'd like to become more than proficient at the language, so I'd like to end up learning those taught at a high-school level as well. Thanks for the information.
>>255 Florida here at the moment. Have lived up in Virginia and Maryland as well, though. I'm also on the internet in IRC at a constant, so I see people everywhere talking about everything x.x.
>>256 I got this info. that if you read 500 Kanji characters, you'll be able to understand 80% of newspaper contents 1,000 Kanji characters make it 95%, and 2,000 Kanji characters make it 100%. Just FYI.
>>259 Yeah, I'm aware of those statistics. There's like 2048 "daily use" kanji or something, which basically outlines newspaper comprehension. If the character used isn't in the list, they are supposedly required to accompany the kanji with furigana so those who do not know the kanji can still understand.
>>259 Comprehension of the meanings of the characters that make up a word does not imply comprehension of the meaning of the entire word. 息子 does not mean "breath child".
>>262 Precisely. I think that one should focus on vocabulary words rather than learning kanji in isolation in order to achieve literacy in Japanese. I think that the individual kanji can be a useful tool, though. It's somewhat like learning the morphemes that make up English compound words. re (again) + view (to look at) = review "review" can mean "to look at something again", as in "Let's review the evidence." However, it can also mean "to judge", as in "Roger Ebert reviews movies." As you can see, learning the components of a word does not necessarily give you the whole picture.
>>264 He even admires Tsunku, lol~~ Yeah, I much prefer Marty to the intellectual-wannbe Florent Dabadie, who shows off his knowledge of big Japanese words to impress others, lol~~
how do you do??? i am a girl. i study English very much. I go to junior college. I love study English very much. It is difficult, but it is interesting. I want to have friends of a lot of countrys. I like to speak english. I want to study english more. thank you very much.
>>269 You should find conversation buddies to talk with through Skype or any similar program. That way you'll also improve your listening comprehension. You do have an English grammar rule book or two, right? If you want to get better at pronouncing words, it's usually good if you listen to radio shows or audio books, and try to pronounce they way they do (though you might want to decide whether you want to go for a English kind of accent, or US accent, transatlantic or a hodge podge of them all, as a starter accent). Recording yourself saying phrases, listening to them and comparing to the original phrases is another good habit. That way you know what areas you need to work on more. Read fun books in English, Harry Potter's been rather popular lately.
>>280>>282 How is giving learning advice to >>269 assaulting her? Are you afraid you won't be able to capture her and put her in your basement, if she's too busy talking with others than you?
>>297 It's an expression, it means yes. Giving a "Do(es) [obviously true scenario]?" as reply to a question is the same as giving a yes as reply, though might be a bit rude, depending on the scenario.
>>302 It's a rhetorical question meant to infer an affirmative. Scenario: "Should we go east from here?" "Does a bear shit in the woods?" <- Of course a bear shits in the woods. This means yes. Therefore, yes is the answer to the person's question of whether or not to go east.
>>300 Thank you for the explanation. Bears do not use sarcasm, you see. Have you ever watched Winnie the Pooh? If you have, I am sure you have found that Pooh Bear is never sarcastic.
>>309 As it was mentioned, it may be desirable to use if one wishes to be a bit condescending. As in that showing that you think the answer was as obvious as the rhetorical question. That they should have been able to figure out by themselves.
>>309 It's sarcastic. It's to be a smart-ass (sarcastic humor). Definitely not something you'd say to someone you don't know well, unless you're trying to be rude.
>>315 Personally I think it's good to have both explenations. Both are the same thing, explained from a different angle. It helps people grasp the meaning better, than if they would have had just either one of the two.
>>330 http://images.google.com/images?q=twink That is "twink". Bear is the same, only very different body type. Lots of hair, muscles, and possibly fat. The sturdy, hairy, masculine kind of gay guys. They often wear leather at "bear" gatherings.
>>342 Dude, if they click the link without reading, they deserve the potential shock. Seriously, the url itself should give off enough warning flags. It's not as if it hides the fact that the link is to an image of gay guys having sex.
>>347 Yeah, but some people don't read. What if some poor Japanese resident who can't speak any English were to see the link, get curious, and take a looksee?!
>>348 If they're curious, then they will get their curiousity satisfied, no? Don't assume everyone here dislikes seeing gay men. I'm sure there are gay guys and yaoi-fangirls here as well.
>>354 Yaoi is basically gay manga sex. A fangirl is a girl who obsesses over something in particular. Put the two together, and you have a deadly concoction.
>>355-356 How is that worse than yuri-fanboys, or eroge anime/manga/game fanboys? Isn't it the same crap, just a different field? This thread is filled with eroge fanboys.
Also, to elaborate for the ones that do not know: yaoi is very much something that appeals to girls more than gay guys. A lot of gay guys feel the stories are ludicrous and alien.
>>366 A Japanese idol girl whose farts allegedly smell like vanilla, according to herself. Some interviewer tried to embaress her, and asked her what her farts smelled like. She became flustered and replied that they smelled like vanilla.
Yukorin is known to have a quirky personality, though. She tends to say odd things.
>>367 You're only on the list if you put yourself on it. The attraction to drawings is heavily imagination-based. People don't as much fall for the lines, or the colors, as the concept of the characters, or the stereotypes they represent. It's the same thing as with real porn, only more "hardcore". People imagine that the girl (or whatever) is in a certain way, based on the behaviors show, in combination with the viewers desires. This is why so much real porn is shitty generic crap, it's to pander to an as wide viewer base as possible. To be able to cater to as many different personal fantasies as possible.
<<376 I understood that much. When I say that I "don't understand", I mean that I don't understand why they get physically and emotionally entrapped in something as intangible as a drawing or game character. I mean, playing games and watching anime is fine and all, no problem with that, but when you start getting feelings and attachments like that... it's time to stop.
>>391 I'm nowhere near Japan; don't really feel pressed to pay attention to Japanese politics when I have my hands full paying attention to ours. x.x Too busy with stuff to keep track!
>>387 You don't understand? Heh. I thought it was pretty obvious. If you get to know someone really well in real life, with very desirable traits; someone you find attractive: would you not fall for her?
It's the same thing when it comes to fictional characters, except for that they do not exist. People get too fond of the idea of the characters, and thus wish too hard that they would exist, as they're seen as such desirable partners. It's really the same thing as people falling for idols or live action characters portaited by live action actors, or celebrities. The only difference is that they're drawn, rather than photo-real. A very one-sided kind of attachment, and love. The difference is that fans of "real" things get to pretend to a higher degree. They're seen as less odd, by the general public.
>>406 Figured it was something dumb like that. I never got why people got so attached to even real idols either. Some people just live in their little fantasies I guess. If you look at it, it's kind of sad, really. Especially with the drawn/generated ones... because they know they can never even speak with them.
>>403 Based on your earlier reaction, I take it you've never been to any image boards either, as opposed to image forums. You've never heard of 4-ch.net, or 4chan.org either, huh? (they're two unrelated sites, western versions of 2ch and 2chan) Asking if you've ever been to any of the other western boards would be ridiculous too, wouldn't it?
>>406 But when it comes to fictional characters, everything is artificially made, so nothing is real. But live actors or celebrities have real feelings and emotions. I think there is a huge difference between them.
>>412 Yes. It is more horrible for the people than the anime/manga characters. Because at least the latter do not have any real lives stalkers and crazy retards can destroy.
>>410 Oh no, I've been there. I also work for a torrent site that has that sort of imageboard. I know a ton of 4chan and 7chan regulars as well. Regardless of this, I always found it strange how they were into that sort of thing. They could never really give me a straight answer :P. Just like "It's hot", or, "I just do".
>>403 I know how it's pronounced. I may not speak Japanese very well, but I know a bit, including the syllabaries.
>>406 I agree; hence why I said it was sadder for those who are like that with fictitious characters.
Hm? I'm not a resident to any of the Xchan boards, so no, don't know how to get a trip-code. I know what it's for though. I can't read enough kanji to make my way around 2ch very well yet x.x.
in the name field, you put in something in the format of YourNameHere#tripcode. E.g. Tripfag#h4h3stuf You can observe the result of the above trip code in my name field. The tripcode works as a kind of password. Even though 2ch's version of tripcodes are not secure (and thus can be found out with tripcode crackers), it's enough for most basic needs.
Now, observe the difference between using a tripcode, and someone trying to impersonate your tripcode by inserting your name + the string generated by your tripcode. This is why you cannot be impersonated, without someone knowing your "tripcode password".
The filled diamond is turned into a hollow one, and the tripcode string is in bold, the same as your name. A generated tripcode will not be in bold, and will be preceded by a filled diamond.
>>426 Woo! Give us more information! What languages have you dabbled in? What languages do you prefer? Do you work in the field? Did you get a programming-oriented education, or did you learn programming in your spare time?
Dabbled in C++, VB, C#, Java, ASM... My best and preferred language is C++ Don't work in the field yet, I'm a student. I work on private projects with others though... I go to a special highschool geared toward Information Technology, so yes, a specialized education... Most of what I've learned however, is beyond that of which the school has prepared me.
>>433 I've poked around in C++, VB, VB.NET, Java, and some assembly. I'm a student too, though I'm very rusty in C++, and VB I hope to never again have to touch.
>>438 Our team is about 14 members, and growing. I'm one of the core developers. We also have people specifically for the database, and for translations. Yes, we do plan to make a Japanese-language release, but our initial release will be in English.
Hi Dee Thank you for the massage. I finished the vacation of the New Year. Its general to drink sake at the New Year of Japan. Therefore,I was drinking sake every day. Do it become an excuse?lol I worry about weight. (><) how are you doing?
Its very happy to drink. good.^^ By the way, pic of your Bunny is very lovely. I like it. was it a party of something? Halloween? http://www.myspace.com/RobbyNinja
Wow, Hillary Clinton is running for the Presidential election, all righty! and she looks extremely young and strong for her age, much so than her husband, lol
My girlfriend's parents caught us when we were having sex! They were very upset. I don't think I'll get to see her again. She isn't likely to go against her parents. They are not wanting her to see me ever again.
>>462 Have some pity for the boy. Even if his ex-girlfriend is spineless. I hope he's a boy, at least... And that she's a young girl, as well. It would be rather pathetic if they were legally adult and yet put themselves in this situation.
>>458, 459 I couldn't believe my eyes when the news report came in on TV, considering he let slip in saying that he condoned bid rigging to a certain extent..........
Im looking for a bento box, it cant be pinku (thats japanese for pink) or any girl color. It has to be of 2 or more kotoba (thats japanese for 2 compartments) and has be be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 bux. And you have to post pics of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii [cute]). And it would be nice if it came with matching chopstick holder (WITH chopsticks). OH! and it CANNOT have any cartoon pictures, or be made out of plastic. It has to be made of ceramic, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (korea) or whatever. I have found a bento box similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 kotoba, and i dont want my gohan (rice) to touch my other things (it can get wet and i would not like that, plus 2 compartments looks more kawaii)
>>510 This board is being filled completely by you 4channers at the moment. I somehow doubt anyone currently speaking even so much as resides in Japan.
>>522 You're retarded. You can't compare this to 4chan. 4chan is an image board. If you want to compare an image board with 4chan, then GTFO and go to 2chan, not 2ch. There is a differents. Fucking idiots.
>>536 I've been known to wander to 4chan or others every once in a while. It's just that I don't frequent any one in particular. Heck, I arrived here only yesterday.
Okay. I'm totally leaving this thread and I ain't coming back until you fucktards either settle down and start discussing yukorins farts/lolicon/japanese politics, like all the native Japanese 'tards, or start actually holding some proper conversations or discussions.
>>544 Seems like it differs from country to country how to call it. Anyway, the point is, 3 American girls got arrested for it. Have you seen their video clips?
>>547 It's almost half past one a.m. their time. What do you expect? Everybody doesn't lack a life. Even most of the NEETs who visit this thread wouldn't post at this hour, on this day. It's monday morning at their place.
English speaking people are contained here, anable to get out to get mixed up with lots of Japanese. Why don't you come along with me and pay a visit to more energetic boards? I can link you there.
Actually, more than 60 threads were consumed just to make sure he used oily cream before fighting. Do you have any interest in this Akiyama issue? I can put the link to the webpage that explains what Akiyama did.
>>576 Akiyama finally admitted that he put "body cream" which contained vaseline. And Tanigawa, or the K-1 organizer, held a press conference to say Akiyama's fighting money will be taken for what he did. Actually, the rules of K-1 clearly says fighters can't use any cream before fighting..
>>577 Very so. Recently thanks to the development of the internet, it came to light that the Japanese media sometimes betray our trusts. People are angry at them.
Well, the point is, in Akiyama's case, people expected fair fight, but Akiyama was not fair.
>>588 Not really. It's more of a passing fact, in my opinion. If he did, he gets reprimanded. If he didn't, he didn't. Whoop dee doo. Big deal. For hardcore fans it might be something to gossip about... but since when does that include most people?
>>585 That's not the point here. As far as I know, you can't use oil when fighting in mixed martial arts. Why? Because when one fighter tries to grab the opponent, oiled body is too slippery to take a grab at.
>>597 What you said? in reply. How can imagine what i don't know anything about. Except a vague idea its some sport player. Only sport fans care, and only some care about specific people.
Its apparently an american baseball player. Never heard of him before.
Barry Lamar Bonds (born July 24, 1964 in Riverside, California) is a Major League left fielder for the San Francisco Giants. He is the son of former MLB All-Star Bobby Bonds and the godson of Hall of Famer Willie Mays.
Bonds holds a number of Major League Baseball records, including the most home runs in a single season set in 2001 with 73.
Through 2006, Bonds is first in career walks (2,426) and intentional walks (645). He is 2nd in career home runs with 734, trailing only Hank Aaron who hit 755; Bonds also ranks 2nd in extra base hits (1,398), 3rd in at bats per home run (13.0), 6th in on-base percentage (.443), runs (2,152), slugging average (.608), and total bases (5,784), and 7th in RBIs (1,930). Bonds also tops the list of career home
runs in the National League, having eclipsed Aaron's previous record of 733.
>>603 Even if the audience was large, I don't see it being such a huge deal. It's like the superbowl here. I hear about it for a week or two, then everyone forgets. :D
>>614 2ch never sleeps either. It's just not as active in this thread during the night as during the day. However, I bet a lot of hikki threads on other boards are very active during the night.
>>621 Nope. Being prejudiced against skil color would be very unbeneficial, in my life. I meet a lot of professional, highly intelligent people, from all over the world. Discriminating against them would be bullshit, because they really don't fit the stereotypes.
>>629 Am I a racist deep down? No. I've learned too well that racist stereotypes do not work. If it's a that faulty tool, why would I use it? It would be like chopping my leg off and using a wooden stick for a leg, instead.
>>627 I guess you have gotten to liked this board. The number of posts today show you like here very much but I wonder how long your interest in this thread last.
I guess in a week you'll get board and never come back here. On second thought you seem to be studying Japanese so your visit may last for a month or so. You must be a girl judging from your frequent uses of emoticon?
>>643 Actually, I'm male. I don't know if I'll stick around here or not. It's a good place to pick up information about cultural differences, and I am learning the language at all, so perhaps I'll be around for a while. Yeah, suppose I do like this board.
>>652 None in person, no. But I do help a few Japanese (mostly females) learn English online, so I do get to get a little practice in there. Most of what I've learned is self-study; I don't have a class for it or anything.
>>662 Using a too female language. As you surely know, females and males speak differently. Children and elders do the same. There's more to it than just the words used to reference to themselves.
>>667 It'll be amusing, though a pain in the ass, to learn the different words. Not that I'll get around to starting to learn Japanese within this year, more than just the kana, apparently. It'll be amusing to switch back and forth betweeen hyper-feminine and old-masculine speak.
>>673 They forgot it.Until some proposes a new raid. The raiders(the people who come to flood with their crap) are just kids and teens who follow the herd mentality. Some trolls join them. Most 4channers don't care.
>>685 They say Japanese sounds are fewer than English ones, meaning English can identify every word Japanese utter; Meanwhile, Japanese can't do all the words English utter. They can't hear spoken English.
