>>22 then, i have a very rudimetary question for you^^;(sorry). how do you differeciate the use of words "relations" and "relationship?" because in japanese, there is only one word for this; kankei. I've looked up in the dictionaries but still not clear. when you have "international" and it's almost always followed by "relations", but "kankei" between companies is "relationship" not "relations".....? Could you help me out here?
>>9 Don't leave! We need more Japanese people on here! >>29 It's difficult to explain. ^_^' I'd say that 'relations' refers to the overall relationship as the sum of the individual ones (like "business relationship", "social relationship", "romantic relationship"). You can have multiple relationships with somebody, but overall they'd be your relations with them. So - relations is general, relationship is singular. That's how I think of it, at least.
As a note in general - if you would like native speakers to correct your grammar (or, hopefully, to say 'Yes, that's correct!') please feel free to post any questions (in English, please.) If it gets to be overwhelming, then we'll just start a new thread.
As an aside, I'd say that most native English speakers can usually tell what even the poorest use of English is trying to say. Every day I deal with people for whom English isn't their native language, and it's not usually a problem for us understanding each other.
>>30 thank you sooo much for your very clear explanation! your explanation was much much clearer than those from dictionaries^^ now i can be more confident when i encounter the situations where i need to use those words. I used to say "international relationship", which caused a big erruption of laguter among native english speakers, LOL^^ >>31 thanx again for your very kind suggestion! i'm sure i'll have to bother you with english-realated questions from time to time and i'm sure other leaners must be very appreciatvie, too. thanks a million!!

When it comes to boobs, however, school girl has big boobs, too. She's catching male posters' attention here after she let slip that her bust was C-cupped.
>>32 どういたしまして。 As you've probably figured out, "relationship" by itself usually means "romantic relationship". (~_^)
I've looked through some of the Japanese -> English dictionaries for Japanese people - and good grief, some of the definitions are awful. It's also very obvious when textbooks have "sample dialogue" written by non-native speakers.
>>48 Indeed, it's such a pity that some of the dictionaries and text books are not even proof-read by native english speakers.
I have another very very emberrasing experience about english. When we see very good amature golf players in japan, we ask them "Anata-wa single desuka?", meaning "Are you a single (or low) handicapper?" So when I saw a very good foreign golf player I translated the japanese sentence directly into englishe and asked, "Are you single?" and the the reply was "No, I'm sorry I'm married with children." .....Then I realized I made a hudge mistake!!!! But the thing is, that guy was very old and non-attractive at all^^;
Yeah, merking thanks for your reply! I also tried to reply to the person the difference between relation and relationship....but hummm...I coudn't compe up with the actual answer. XD

>>52 Hee! When I visited Japan, it took me a good two weeks to realize that anything written in romaji was usally unmeaningful - and that only about half the time "English" words in katakana were similar to the original word. ("biking" is an excellent example of that.)
Can "document" mean "documentary" at all? because I hear the word "document" all the time, when, I think "documentary" is supposed be used, and even Dave Specter uses "document" instead of "documentary." I'm confused!
Don't expect too much. I don't think my boobs will grow any more. And I have to tell you that boobs are not everything. lolz~~ Miyavi-kun would say the exact same thing!!*blush*
>>86 Actually, boobs are just as much a matter of taste as everything else. I have a friend for instance, he doesn't find breasts above C-cup attractive. His preference lies in the B-C area. And then there are plenty of guys who perfer A-B type breast on mature women, and also plenty of guys who prefer as huge as possible. So yes. It's sorta obvious, but some people do tend to forget that tastes are different.

>>149 2ch isn't the only forum/BBS I visit, but it is indeed one of the ones I visit the most, especially lately as I haven't really visited any others for more than a minute or two at the time, maybe once a week. I think the 2ch board style is a lot easier to casually read/post at, in comparison to the average western forum, which makes it very appealing for me, as I drift around too much to be a proper regular at any place that requires too much continous attention. I can stay at a place for a month or three, but after that I tend to get too distracted by various things, such as studies, etc. I used to regularly visit a chatroom created for the sake of getting people all over the globe together to talk with each other in English. A Japanese guy ran it, so naturally he used a chat look that's closer to this than the average western type stuff. I frequented that chatroom from the end of '99 to somewhere around 2001, I think. My boyfriend spent some time at 2ch/2chan style systems, includin western versions, as he studied Japanese, and so he kept sending me links to such places, and I got used to the style rather quickly. Minimalism and intelligent simplicity appeals to me, so that's yet another reason for why I like this. And though there are plenty of trolls here, there aren't many places that don't have any trolls, including in real life. So, I don't mind ignoring the trolls and enjoying a good casual chat with anyone who happens to have the time to talk for a bit.
>>156 It does appear that way. Though Japan is renowned for their skill with asymmetrical compositions in designs, which is something I'm interested in, as asymmetrism is more dynamical. Though I wouldn't want to go hardcore with just symmetrical or asymetrical designs, though. I enjoy a balanced mix ^-^
>>157 Yea, I agree asymmetry has more movement and rhythm, and fun! Whereas symmetry gives sense of security, perhaps. I don't know if Isamu Noguchi's work is considered asymmetrical, but at any rate, I like his work. But I just rememberd, he is half American....hum......LOL!

Sorry I forgot to write something. After her speech of cutie comment in public, she got a great reputation among otaku kids...wasn't it? that's what I think...

>>175 It's because of the difference in what Japanese and English speakers expect from what they hear. Japanese has five vowels, English has 13. Vowels are much more important in Japanese than in English.
The Japanese word 'hambaagaar' has a single vowel sound, with some longer than others. Because I couldn't get the vowel to be exactly the same for all of them, and have the long vowels be the right length, it didn't matter that I was pronouncing all the consonants correctly.
This is why it's so important to differentiate r from l and h from f when speaking English - you can be sloppy with the vowels, but you can't be with the consonants.

Fool fucker(s) such-copy from a particular parson. As a result, you lose yourself. Do you have yourself ? Don't lose yourself. However, Who is fucker ? (Of course, I may be a different-fucker.)
>>184 I completely agree with you, but at the same time, for being japanese, I really envy people whose native tongue has a large number of vowels. Because it is very difficult to "create" and master new vowels, whereas in their case, all they need to do is select one of the closest vowels they already have. e.g., differentiating between "color" and "collar" is very difficult. But I agree that length of japanese vowels vary a lot, and this seems to be difficult for non-japanese people to master. I really wonder why we have so many different languages in the world.
>>184 Also, some of the american-way of pronunciations can be difficult for Japanese. e.g. If you say "warer" instead of "waTer", or "tweny" instead of "twenTy"........if you see what I mean. This is because we learn English mainly from books, and not so much from ears. A bit pity.
As you said, vowels are sure really important in Japanese. As a matter of fact, Japanese voice actors/actresses and news anchor men(women), I hear, practice pronoucing vowels clearly. Plus, English rythms and intonations are very different from Japanese ones, too.
By the way, I watched on TV before, that a Japanese interviewer asked several English speakers (who apparently hadn't studied Japanese) to repeat what he said and he managed it, while Japanese people went blank when an English speaker asked them to retain what he said and reproduce it.
I don't know why there were such differences, but one thing is for sure; Japanese people usually have hard time getting used to consonant-based languages.
>>190 >I really envy people whose native tongue has a large number of vowels. I also do.
Not to dwell on the topic, but I once read up on Japanese pronunciation on the net. If I remember correctly, some of the Japanese dialects have more than 5 vowels such as northan part of Japan's main land. Personally, people who live there are as if they didn't speak Japanese.
>>198 Hmm, vocablary and listening... One reason is because native speakers can guess what non-native speakers say and write but the other way around is not always true.
For I'm not familiar using English, I may mistake grammars and words.

>>235 Lolicon = Lolita Complex, i.e. someone who finds underaged girls sexually arousing because of that they are underaged girls. In the western forum subculture, "loli" (= a Lolita) and "lolicon" (= someone who has lolitas as fetish) most of the time, but not always, refers to drawn images (stereotype manga/anime art styles) of young characters, and drawn images only, while as (as far as I've understood it) here it refers to underaged girls in general, whether they be real or just drawn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolicon is rather informative. I'm guessing that "crimer" is short for "criminal". Which would make lolicon crimers = lolita complex criminals.
>>219 There is also OTAKU-hunting going on. Some punks hang around in Akihabara and specifically target OTAKUs, attack them and rob money from them, because those punks know that OTAKUs in Akihabara have a fair amount of cash and most of all, OTAKUs usually do not fight back. Therefore some OTAKUs have started learn KARATE, lol!! Keep it up!
>>246 Since I'm not OTAKU myself, I can only speculate, and I'm sure OTAKUs DO carry credit cards. But considering the fact that OTAKUs are being robbed by teenage punks, not by crime syndicates which have a means to benefit from stolen credit cards, I'd assume they carry a good amount of cash with them when they go to AKIBA. Having said that though, I'd like to let real OTAKUs or OTAKU experts to answer this quiestion. Sorry, if I'm totally wrong.

You might want to add some punctuation of sorts in there, though... "Hej, jag heter Sasuke. Det är trevligt att träffa dig, K-tan!" is one way of doing it :-D Sooo... Where did you get that sentence? ^-^
>>263 Oh? Is it good (i.e. presenting the topic in an interesting and well written manner)? >>265 Um, not saying that >>262 is perfect, but the error in there is something a human is more inclined to make, not a translation script... The wording is rather fluent.
>>267 Ah, I see. I've never met anyone named Sasuke, but I've seen that name in the list of some random tv-series my sis showed me info about. I don't remember who, but they were a guy, and I thought that it was a guy's name... But then schoolgirl tossed that sentence in Swedish at me, and I didn't know whether to interprent that as that she's copying someone's sentences for them and posting to this thread, or if she had a boy's name... "Jag heter Sasuke" = My name is Sasuke.
k-tan thanks! lolz~~ I met a boy on net named Sasuke, alleged he is a swedish. So I asked him to speak something in Swedish...but I suspect he is not...So from your judge, his Swedish is done by a translator? o_O???
>>270 I don't wear that heavy make up...man. *pout*
I think that girl wears too much make up everyday..maybe no chance for a day to have no makeup on her face even a day..then that life style made her face so blur...化粧やけ。 I guess lolz~~
>>268 Ahhh, perhaps the tv-series was some kind of athletic meet, wasn't it? "Sasuke" is used as the title of it, where both famous and obscure athletes try to clear the obstacles and reach the goal within limited time. I guess the producer of the show thought Sasuke (ninja) was a suitable name for the event.
>>262 What do the sentences say in English, by the way??
>>269 No, I said the opposite, actually. That the Swedish was too good to be machine translated, as I was trying to figure out if you had gotten that Swedish from a real human, or from some translation program.

>>317 I've heard their love is serious. While Hamaguchi had to go away (for the variety show's work, he had to be confined in one room for weeks, Yukorin was so sad and she started to keep a dog. I saw a photo that Hamaguchi and Yukorin walk a doggy together holding their hands!!!
>>297, >>302 Sorry for jumping into the conversation so late, it's morning time here. I don't think people get offended if Kameda acts as a heel on the ring, because everyone knows that it can be a part of his taxtics. But many people are offended because he doesn't follow the rule of showing respect and using honorifics in fron of seniors. That's the very basic rule that everyone has to follow in this country, even if one is a great boxer. Further, sportsmen are usually reputed for their well behaviours, so naturally, we tend to expect Kameda to act properly off ring.
>>319 The theme from M*A*S*H is called "Suicide is Painless." If you ever get to watch the movie, which the television show was based on, the actors sing the lyrics to the song in a scene.
Since someone brought up the "Family Guy," I just want to add it's not a very good show in my opinion. It does have many references to American pop-culture, but it's just not a funny show. And the past several seasons of "The Simpsons" hasn't been very funny either. But that's just my opinion.
>>322 Thanx very much for you info. on M*A*S*H. uhmmmmm, the title sounds a bit scary, but I think it well matches with the melody~~ I'm going to google the lyrics.

Yamamoto Keiichi is a good person. He just bought a 17-year-old girl. It's much too hard to let him go on account of that, for most of us to believe the news.
Beavis and Butt-head reminds me of a fad term, "Kimo-Kawa." It means Disgusting (=Kimo) but Cute (=Kawaii). Kimo-Kawa has been considered a kind of charm. http://www.alc.co.jp/eng/hontsu/ima/21.html
>>342 Where he belonged. In the show buisiness. The girl agreed to a financial settlment, and he wasn't sued. Many followers of Yamamoto want him back at work.
sensei houkei is a serious desease that is covered in the national universal medical insurance thing. you can't uncover your penis whatever you might do because the redundant skin of it is too tightly wraped around your penis.
Is anyone here, except Japanese people, who's not from English speaking country but have been studying it on his own such as Asian people (from non-English speaking country)?
>>370 I imagine it's because of two things: English grammar is very, very different from Japanese. English pronounciation is very, very different; there are many more sounds in English than in Japanese. (You can also spell some names 'correctly' in Romaji that you can't in Hiragana - e.g. 神保町 is "Jimbouchou".)
>>380 I'm sorry, but I don't think there are any names that cannot be spelled correctly in Hiragana, because Hiragana is a phonetic representation in itself. The pronunciation of 神保町 is not "JiMbouchou" but "JiNbouchou." Japanese dones not have the liaison that you have in French or English (and probably in some other launguages, too), so in the above example, we do pronounce N (not M) even though it's followed by B. Liaison actually is a pronunciation mistake that many non-Japanese people have when they learn to speak Japanese.
>>381 Perhaps merkin would like to say about the sound of M and N. We Japanese don't part M from N when writing Kana. The spelling of 神保町 in Kana is Jinbouchou, but the sound of it is Jimbouchou(lips is closed). If we write these in Kana, both are ジンボウチョウ.
婚約(コンヤク) has the sound of N. 新聞(シンブン) has the soudn of M.
>>382, >>384 I don't want to dwell on this topic, but similar thing may be said about English pronounciation of "code" and "codes?" I'm not an English pronounciation expert so correct me if I'm wrong here, but when you pronounce "codes", you still (at least implicitly) pronounce the "d" sound, right? So it's not directly pronounced as "coz" but still "codz", I guess. If so, the same thing can be said for Jinbouchou. It's JiN-Bou-Chou, then when they are concatenated, they may sound like JiMbouchou, but stil, the N is pronounced at least implicitly, it's never directly M. Sorry about this boring explanation.
>>380 After all, Romaji is just a guideline of pronunciation for non-Japanese-speaking people for their convenience. (So, for e.g., they can find their way at the railroad stations etc.) So if one wants to learn Japanese, he/she should only pay attention to Kana and Kanji.
>>398 The last 2 words looked like "Konishiki",LOL! He said on TV that he needs to reserve and pay for 2 seats on the plane, but he gets mileage points for only one person. Since he is paying double amount, I think he is entitled to get double-mileage points, no?
The burger must be poisonous, killing all the eaters!!! You are the one I've been looking for! You are the one who killed my girlfriend with the horrible burger!!
It's time for us to settle this matter, ketsuge burger maker!! You'll pay for what you did to my school girl! She's mine for ages. You'll be sorry that you were butting in our relation!!
Ah, She visited an outpatient clinic at our hospital last week and the doctor there examined her body. She looked like she wanted to get the lower part of her body checked. The doc told us students that she got an anus densely covered with thick grown hairs. I actually saw him input her data as "n.p." into the PC.
Ooh, Dvorak :-D I want to give that a shot too at some point. It would be nice, though I imagine it would take quite some time for me to get used to it...
>>477 you do not have to limit your career. do you like plane? so you can be an engineer in airport. you can teach your technique to foreign engineers.
>>536 I know. I wanted to say, the number of Japanese women marrying foreign men is considerably more than the number of Japanese men marrying foreign women. I hear that somewhere, that's it.
>>533 That quite seems the case, yes. Any theories regarding why Japanese men are less keen on marrying foreign women than Japanese women are on marrying foreign men? Not that there are many Japanese women who do so... But they indeed greatly outnumber the males. I've heard theories about that it's due to that many Japanese men have gotten more and more busy with other things than being in relationships with any women, being one of the reasons for why the birth rate is going down in Japan.
Women has liberated from the chain of tradition They are keep pushing their limit. Women have become more than just child bearing machines. That's why the birthrate drop
>>550 Which woman and man are you speaking of? Keep in mind, there are plenty of poor, weak and not the slightest bit clever men in the world, and rich, powerful and smart women, vice versa and everything inbetween. The world is not binary like that.
>>551 Like always, and virtually exponentially... It's sort of worrisome.
Yeah! on average Japanese men are ugly. that's for sure. They are also getting weaker physically, emotionaly without those old traditoins which used to force women into submission
Women has [been] liberated from the chain of [the] tradition. They [have been] [keeping] pushing their [limits]. Women have become [beings] more than just [children] bearing machines. That's why the birthrate [is decreasing.]
If you dislike such a correction, I stop it, and so sorry,
>>559 Japanese men are on average ugly? Really? o.O I haven't really noticed the non-celebrity males I've seen look uglier than the generic European or American...
I think depend on sensitivity toward beauty. I don't mind BUSAIKU or BUSU. Frankly saying I can't feel relieved if I were surrounded beautiful guys and women of western.
>>562>>546 umm.. actually... "Women have been liberated from the chain of tradition. They keep pushing their limits. Women have become more than just child bearing machines. That's why the birthrate dropped." or "That's why the birth rate drops." or "That's why the birth rate is decreasing." or "That's why the birth rate has decreased."
The sentences could be punctuated a bit differently, but the above suffices (i.e. people will understand).
That's why +名詞 is gramatically incorrect i know but I have seen it a lot. But i won't make the same mistakes again !! HAHAHAHA!! or... i won't make the same mistake? singular or plural is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo confusing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>578 I have a friend who came from Norway, and he speaks English very well. Why do you Scandinavian speak English so well? The languages there are different from English, right?
Hm... x "Women have become [beings] more than just [children] bearing machines." o "Women have become more than just child-bearing machines." o "Women have become something more than just child-bearing machines"
I can't give you an eloquent motivation as for why the first first sentence isn't good, though. Sorry... I've learned a lot of things in such a manner that I don't really reflect on why, any more. I just do it instinctively. My guess is that the same way if you have something as a habit, you say that you do it in the present form (compare: "I ate an apple last tuesday", "I eat apples each tuesday"), if something does something habitually, then you refer to it in singular adjective (example: ice-cube machines make many ice cubes)
(someone who actually knows what he/she is talking about: please correct me and give the people here a proper and good explenation)
x "I ate an apple last tuesday", "I eat apples each tuesday" o "I ate an apple last tuesday", "I eat an apple each tuesday" o "I ate several apples last tuesday", "I eat apples each tuesday"
better.
>>583 Norwegian, Danish and Swedish (though NOT finnish) are Germanic languages, and so is English. Our alphabets differ from the English one a bit, and the letter pronounciations aren't the same as the English one, but it's close enough for us to have a lot easier to learn English than a Japanese person. [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_languages ] In Sweden you get classes in English from grade 4 or 3, to 11th or 12th grade.
So, while our languages do indeed differ from English, they do not differ as much for us as for Japanese people, and we also tend to have a lot of English tv-shows/movies imported and shown on tv, with only subtitles (well, in Sweden at least) rather than dubbed. Less language difference + long studies + more exposure = higher skill level on an average.
It'll be raining here in Maryland (USA) later tonight, or so I heard from The Weather Channel. It's been very cloudy all day! So grey and dreary looking.
>>542 'the number of Japanese women marrying foreign men is considerably more than the number of Japanese men marrying foreign women'
Traditionally in Japan, a husband was considered a "big baby", so the wife had to take very good care of him, by cooking for him, washing clothes, ironing, polishing shoes, preparing what to ware to work the next morning etc., etc. And Japanese men took this for granted. Right now, most women (at least I hope) are against this notion, however, this "role model wife" figure still lingers in the society and also in women's mind. So I think what happens is that a Japanese woman marries a foreign man, and the man either does not expect her to treat him as a baby, or he expects to be taken good care of but he really appreciates it. On the other hand, a Japanese man who expects to be treated as a baby, or king, at home, and take that for granted, obviously, can never marry a foreign women.
This is one observation, and being a Japanese woman myself, I would love to be treated as Queen after coming back from a long day at work, LOL!!
Sorry to be so slow to respond; work has been nasty. >>387>>388>>389 It's got _everything_ to do with how Japanese hear and pronounce English. In English, m and n are very very different; "nice" and "mice" are completely different words. If you mispronounce "hook" with an "f", you get something that most people will hear as "fuck".
(English orthography isn't great for the vowels, but it's typically pretty straightforward for the consonants.)
>>610 Thank you very much for you input. I'm in the 20s, and I still observe that underlying tradition expected of women once they get married. But if what you observe is really prevalling, then it's very good news^^, I really like that. Then, why more Japaese women marry foreign men, than Japanese men marry foreign women? Well, anyways..... By the way, I'm waiting for David Beckham to get divorced, so I get a chance to marry him. No chance, I know, LOLz!
>>447 The Dvorak keyboard has maybe 1% of the market. If that. Nobody uses it.
>>543 The usual theory I've heard is that "Japanese men are scared of assertive Western women."
>>572 Yes, having 'than' is correct. Since you're comparing one thing to another, you need to have 'than'. "merkin is uglier than k-tan", "women are smarter than bunnies", "NEET are more than lazy students".
>>612 Do you live in a old town? I don't know much about tradition of old towns; I'm an urban dweller. Maybe old customs and tradition is still kept alive where you live?
Good Japanese men were killed in WWII. Today, Japanese men have bad DNA. That's, I think, one of the reason of that more Japaese women marry foreign men than Japanese men marry foreign women.
I don't like war. Because the good die, the bad don't die in war.
>>614 I live in the biggest metropolis in Japan. But you are right in that this kind of tradition is more deeply rooted in the country regions than big cities. Also, this 良妻賢母(Good wife, good mother) figure is strongly promoted on the media these days. As you observe, this may be the backlash of liberalizatoin of women, if so, this is a very good sign!
I often visit this chat room site. http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/chat/chatbylycos.html And I learned Britain English there. Maybe there is not a much difference between American English and Britain English. Of course I pay attention to the time difference between Japan and UK when I visit the chat site.
Hello again everyone! Can a japanese speaker please explain "yoroshiku" to me? I've heard it used in a lot of different ways, such as 'nice to meet you', 'thanks in advance',ect. Is there a literal translation for it? o.o
oh yeah, and I have a question about 2ch. If I wanted to start a music thread, in english, would it stay in this forum? Or should I make it in the music forum? :D
>>627 I really don't know. If you go to music section, it would be alright.. but not many ppl would visit the thread if it is written in English, I guess.
>>626 As you said, "yoroshiku" means anything. Such as "pls take care of this" "nice to meet you" "Thanks for your help!" "give this regards" "say hello"..etc ^^;
>>613 why you talk about "than"?? the question is about "beings" On your screen, is ↑pointing at "beings"? If not, maybe your settings are not properly set for viewing 2ch
>>616 I feel that, too. Expecially from Hosoki Kazuko! All she says is women should have children ,stay home ,raise children, take good care of men and so on Conservatives are loving her. The ratings of her programs are insanely high. What's worst about her is she always brings hell into the picture. If you don't follow her advice, you go to hell. I don't know what's worse than that? Everyone on her programs just blindly admires her and approves of her comments. It's really sickening.
What yellow monkeys? http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/factsheets/entry/golden_lion_tamarin can't speak English... No primates except for humans can speak English, and not even all humans can speak English. There have however been some non-human primates that have been able to communicate with humans via sign language and symbol language :-)
>>652 So, you're implying that God isn't able to create something as complex as evolution? Isn't that rather insultive to God? People often seem to think that being of the same subclass as other apes is somehow an insult towards humanity. I don't see how, though. Could someone please explain why it is insultive to have evolved from similar roots in spite of being very different?
>>641 I'm surprised to know a yellow monkey like you are trying to learn English. What are you doing it for? To become a slave of the world ruling races?
>>657 I'm not saying that claiming human beings have evolved from apes is insultive. I am saying it's just not true. It's in the bible. You can look it up.
>>663 Ah, you're not? Okay. I was just asking because many of the more religious people find that notion insultive. However, the bible is "just another book". It's far from the oldest book that gives an explenation for how the world is, it's far from the oldest religon either... There are many, many other religions out there. It's not even the only mono-deity religion book... How can one know that that one is right, and not one of the thousands and millions of other stories? Some religions say that humans were born from glaciers, others that we decended from animals-gods (in a non-evolutionary fashion), etc...
>>668 Superior? Yeah right :-P Humans are humans. Too many seem to forget that, and focus on the differences instead of what we have in common. People not being identical with others doesn't make them less worth. Let people do whatever they do best, and let us all work to make the world better for all of us.
>>633 Totally!!! Hosoki Kazuko's preaching is so sickning. I even sense some kind of conspiracy there. And her avid follower Matusi Kazuyo is also disgusting. Wasn't she supposed be an actress? I feel like telling her, get a life!
>>678 I don't have it, I use TextPad with some plugins, though someone recommended WinEdt, so I was going to have a look at that, but I haven't yet. *looks at LyX on wikipedia* Hmm.. It doesn't seem bad, but I sort of like working in the source code. Front Page for instance drove me insane with annoyance when it kept adding random junk I didn't want, back in '99 or 2000 when I tried it... I'm a bit of a control-freak, too. If I can do it in a more precise manner, I'm often (but not always) more interested in doing so. It depends on whether it's worth it in the long run or not. something that simultaneously allows you to work in source code or WYSIWYG would be rather lovely, though. I liked that bit about DreamWeaver. (yes, I know FrontPage and DreamWeaver are HTML page editors, but as a good example as any)
>>675 Sadly, so will you. According to every religion that has some kind of hell except for the one you follow (or perhaps even that one), you're likely to go to 'hell'. Especially if the requirements for that are as few as that "you have to be a follower of this religion". People usually only follow a single religion, if any. But there are so many religions, none can really prove that they're more right than the others.... This, is why I feel that it's complicated.
>>681 Oh, the sole reason you'd want to use LyX at all is if you had LaTeX source in the first place, or if you wanted to format something reasonably nicely, then take the generated TeX and fool around with that manually. For HTML, though, I know some people like bluefish. Haven't really dorked around with it, myself.
>>682 I've never heard about bluefish the text editor, before. Interesting. Thanks ^-^ Personally, I tend to use something along the line of TextPad or so for html files. But then again I've never had to keep track of the html files for an entire big site, so that makes my needs rather basic.
~~I know that the spades are swords of a soldire I know that the clubs are weapons of war I know that diamonds mean money for this art But that's not the shape of my heart..........
With the weak as your prey, you've strengthened your power to slay our people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll never let you finish them off! Take this blow, and repent what you did to them!
>>751 I know you are talking to 750, sorry for the interference. but what is the "warehouse idiot?" Is it similar to "gloomy pervert (Muttsuri Sukebe)?"
I think I can say for this case, that all the Japanese people feel very sorry for her and her family. And it is not only Megumi Yokota but many more people have been abducted by NK and have not come back yet. We feel very sorry for the families and at the same time very angry about NK. Luckily, new prim minister Abe is a proponent of a hardline against NK and established a new post for dealing with this issue. Now the abductees' parents are getting very old, we are strongly hoping for very early return of the abductees. I saw on the news that 2 Canadians made a very moving film about this case and it was shown in the US. The film will come to Japan soon (if I'm not mistaken).
>>810 Yes that's right. Koizumi-Abe did make winners more flourish and make losers poorer. Full time jobs are rare and part time is numerous in hello work!
>>813 I think it also depends on how you define losers. If, so called losers have part time jobs AND free time for themselves, I think they are living a good life, i.e. winners. A lot of so called winners do nothing but work and sleep only 2-3 hours a day and eventually become ill. I don't know if this is considered a good life.
>>861 SO! You are the mastermind of this cyber terror!! I'll let you notice there's good girls on the internet!!!!!!!! Say sorry when you are in the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>873 Usually indeed. Unless she only has one (many breast-cancer survivors, for instance) or none (women who are too skinny, or too muscular, or just simply didn't get boobs by some reason or another, involving hormones and whatnot, etc)
>>878 While I'm happy that people are posting in English, I'd prefer that they have something more than the one-liners that have dominated the thread for the past couple of days. One-liners are booooooooring.
>>891 Well, it's more like 2channel than 2ch, but you may be amused by http://www.4chan.org/; it's much more image-based than text-based, however. See http://www.1chan.net/overchan/ for a directory of English-language 2ch-like boards.
I'm also the one who like the place where the air is dry. Japan is too humid. I think I'm going someplace like Hawaii when things get settled. Early retirement is my dream.. but this isn't going to happen if I go on this way...X(
>>909 i think it's a quite reasonable suggestion. but quite contrary, things aren't just easy as that. If I want to be a doctor in the US, I have to pass an exam called USMLE first. It's a very tough one. And next, I have to be a resident in the US for more than three years. To become a resident, you have to be very excellent in medicine. So it's very hard to be a doctor in the US. it's almost like an American dream....lol
>>910 I see...uhm...life is tough. When I wrote 909, I had Dr. Fukushima, a brain surgeon, in mind. Anyways, it's obvious that Japan also needs very good doctors, too. so it's good in a way that you are forced to stay in Japan~~
Talking about Dr. Fukushima, I guess he also went through the same steps I mentioned above. Not only that, I can imagine how hard it might have been to win international fame only with two hands. He might say, if I say something like early retirement to him, it is out of the question.
>>916 From women's point of view, he is definately on the good looking side, but ditto, it's work that makes a man look attractive. I bet that also holds true for women, as a matter of fact, I've never felt Ebi-chan attractive.
>>917 Really? I think Ebi-chan is doing a great job nowadays! I don't like her though...I like Sayo Aizawa better. But as you pointed out, we wouldn't know about her if she didn't appear on the TV...
>>918 LOL~~!! I was kind of expecting that answer.....boy, Ebi-cha is so popular among men! I agree, Sayo-chan seems to have more character and her own world in her self~~ Well, thanx so much for the nice talk and interesting info.! and best of luch with your dreams! I'm sorry I've gotta go now but I'll be back later~~
>>928 no prob~~~ but you know I'm not a typical joshiko sei...so...my opinion would not be of your help...you know I am an outlaw...umm...kinda exception...lolz~~
about my ideal type of girls...I like noble, feminine, smart but cool and funky...all these characters are in one person. That would be my ideal woman! lolz~~
>>933 Really? lolz~~ I guess...umm if you look at many kikoku shijo, you will know... we are metanlly older than others. I duuno why. I feel we are about 10 yrs older than others in general. I hope it won't sound snobbish. ^^;
>>935 933 had a typo. Kikoku not Kokoku, sorry^^; Well I think maybe the mental age of Kikoku-shijyo is the global standard, and the mental age of Japanese teen-agers is somewhat lower than the global standard? Just one observation~~ Sorry if I'm totally mistaken!
GEORGETOWN, Pa. (AP) - Dozens of Amish neighbours turned out Saturday to mourn a quiet milkman who killed five of their young girls and wounded five more in a brief, unfathomable rampage. About one-half of perhaps 75 mourners on hand were Amish. "It's the love, the forgiveness, the heartfelt forgiveness they have toward the family," said Bruce Porter, a fire department chaplain from Morrison, Colo., who went to Pennsylvania to offer what help he could and attended the burial.
uhmmmm.......very difficult to understand..... the familiy of the killer is not at fault, but still,,,,,,forgive...... uhmmm........I couldn't.

Hmm, the news says north korea conducted a nuclear test today. It's kind of threatening.
But the website of Japan times is still not up-dated. Maybe the news will be featured on the top page tomorrow. For future reference, the site is : http://www.japantimes.co.jp/
But yahoo news says today's nuclear test ended up "in falure". The magnitude level of the explosion was low compared to the one caused by usual nuclear tests.
I hope it was really a failure. I think Osaka area is relatively safer than other large cities in Japan.
