わかりづらいから可能性あるのを書くよ。
a は不特定だから後ろにあるもんに当てはまれば一つの物ならなんでもいい。
たとえば私の本が本棚に100冊あって彼女はその中の一冊だけ借りた→棚には別の人の本もある可能性がある。

theがついたら例え同じ本でも私のお気に入りの本の可能性があるし前の会話に出たもの。

その文だとbook of mine の全てにaがかかってるのはわかる?ただaが抽象だから話者の中では'私の'以外の本もまわりにある想定かも知れないし、借りたのは私の本一冊であればなんだっていいんだよ。

〜is mine!ならmineの意味が強くなる。その場合は相手が誰のものかわからない又は自分のだとはっきりさせたい場合。

あとその英文のどこにfavoriteがあるんだよ。
日本語は確かに友達のだちを変換しない方が正しいから藻前さんが正解だが。
