1) Slum Dunk.

I've heard of Slam Dunk, Touch and Dragon Ball.

Touch is by Adachi Mitsuru, right? I know about Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z was actually the 4th anime show that I ever watched.

I really like anime and manga. I guess I'm considered an otaku...

But the series that I read the most are Naruto, Hikaru no Go, One Piece, and Shaman King. Those mangas are in the American version of Shonen Jump. I also buy manga books. I have a lot, but I buy a lot at a used book store.

would anybody help me understand this joke?

For most people yes, reading manga is considered to be for children. I'm 17 and people tell me that I'm too old to watch anime and read manga.

That joke is refering to a nursery rhyme that's often told to young children.

It's a play on an English children's rhyme. The original goes:
"Knick-knack patty-whack, give a dog a bone, this old man goes rolling home."
Patty Whack is a shortened version of the teller's name (Patricia), and "his old man's a Rolling Stone" referrs to Mick Jagger (or however you spell it), the singer in the band the Rolling Stones.

It's probably going to remain like this in America for a while. More and more people around my age are getting into anime and manga now. I was one of the first people in my school to like anime. I started watching Sailor Moon when I was 5 years old.

Yeah. I know a lot of people who draw in manga and anime styles. I draw that way actually. One of my friends invited me to join his doujinshi making club.

many grown-ups were lined up. Maybe the American mangas are in their
course of cultural development.

I don't know who's a hot author and sadly I guess I can't get their
mangas easily, though. Do you know any one of them? If I can buy that
manga book by Amazon, I think I'll take one.

I don't really read much American manga, but I've read some. Megatokyo is funny.

The string after the # should be like a password--letters, numbers, symbols, and it does not need to contain "tripcode."
Only the first 8 characters after the # are used.
Some characters are substituted before the tripcode is calculated (such as > -> >) so #>>a and #>>b will be the same.

Personally I just tend to use mIRC as an alarm clock instead of an IRC program, as my
computer tends to be turned on 24/7.
I just set a timer to launch an mp3 at the appropriate time.
Usually the mp3 is one of the following:
- the song "Mute" by the band Moonspell
- "Do Virgins Taste Better Medley" by Brobdingnagian Bards
- "Tori no Uta" by some band named I've
- one of the polynap mp3s at http://www.placebo.serv.co.za/?page_id=7 - just because one doesn't
polynap doesn't mean they aren't good for waking up after an entire night's worth of sleep.

And then I try to jump into the shower as quick as possible to refrain from falling back
asleep.

Using mp3-tracks that gradually grow more distracting with an intro works better for me than to instantly
go from complete silence to heart-attack inducing contrasts, for instance abrupt heavy metal on full blast.
Even though I like heavy metal too.

At one time I used a winamp plugin that had an alarm but it would gradually turn up the volume.
I mostly used my normal music from my ambient techno playlist.
If I really knew I needed to be up I would set it to something from Venetian Snares + Speedranch, which is noisecore/speedcore.

I use MS Outlook's reminder function as an alarm clock. It's convenient for me because I'm in college and have classes that start at different times on different days. The only problem is I sometimes forget to turn up my PC speakers before going to bed.

I use an old program called "HyperAlarm" which loads my mp3 player of choice...and find the most annoying song I can think of at the moment as the track.
