Questionable results Local officials interpret the gains on an English test (the CELDT) as evidence that English learners in the Los Angeles Unified School District are making real progress. The CELDT was introduced two years ago. Research shows that when a new standardized test is introduced, scores are low at first, and then increase each year as teachers and students become more familiar with the format and contents. The CELDT is closely aligned with the California State Standards; teachers are very aware of what kinds of items will be on the test. It is not clear if the gains represent real learning or simply better test preparation. Stephen Krashen Emeritus Professor of Education University of Southern California
>>18 I heard it's an old expression. You can see it in some dictionaries, but actually it's not used at all. You can find it in old literature. Today the same meaning can be expressed this way:
>>42 Hey! I don't have a sexual abnormality. It is quite natural for anyone to have a different sexual habit! In my case, I just enjoy having cute girls see me masterbate! I don't do anything violent like raping. That sucks!
>>45 u made people shocked with ur eccentrick performance. i admit u r very exciting and interesting. but ur illegal entertainment iz possible to make them feel u r dangerous. do u enjoy urself even if u violate law?
There are many rules people never follow. Buying a prostitute is a good example. Everybody knows that it is illegal to have fuck with them but all the men do it!
Some people tell me that someone who received good education like me should not do something unacceptable. I don't really agree with it. Why not doing something I find very entertaining.
ive eaten almost no beef since bse was found out in japan. its a little bit scary to eat beef recently. since before i often sent to yoshinoya. but never go recently for fear.
>>65 when it comes to yoshinoya , it means only gyudon. i dont like yoshinoya with no gyudon. butadon or toridon is possible to buy even in seven eleven. i need yoshinoya with safe beef.
i think yoshinoya had the worst business plans, since every other place that was originally a gyudon-ya changed their strategies a long time ago. probably when the first bse news spread through japan.
>>68 If you don't stick to Yoshinoya, you can have gyudon. Matuya serves it now using a stock of beef imported before the government banned the beef from the states.
but i cant trust the president. because he is still denying the necessity of checking all beef to put in market. as far as he is president , im afraid of going to yoshinoya. he is interested in only business.
>>72 Thanks. I didn't know that Yoshinoya was the only one that served gyudon. I thought all those places did like Matsuya and the others, which I have no idea what their names are at the moment.
i dont frequent yoshinoya nor matsuya, but after seeing the photo of buta=don everywhere i had a sudden craving for it, so i bought thinly sliced pork (cheap!) and added onion and mushroom, seasoned with ginger, soy sauce and sake. if preferred, hot pepper (taka no tsume) can be added as a tangy spice.
>>105 roppongi hills is very famous recently. though a tragidy occured, that is a brand new buuilding, looks like a office town. i hope to see it and have delicious lunch in it.

>>112 I think Kabuki-tyou is more terrible. Something around there is creepy, especially at night. I don't want to go there. Sometimes there's need to, though.
kabukicho seems still to be becoming an international. in addition, there are a lot of japanese with their hair painted in blonde. lol it looks full of gaizin people. lol
You do not know what kind of behaviour is expected in this thread. I know the history of this. there was a another thread that is the title is "Chat in English" which expect poster to write in proper English grammer and spelling. This thread's title "Chatter in English", is as title different from formar, this thread does not require proper English. That's why regidence here call the language "engurish". Before blame someone else, you should respect the rule and history here.
>>159 excuse me sir but i refuse to submit myself under your hand of reckless trolling. you cant anger me. and i pity you much for not understanding my post, amen. (w)
i know the idea that is popular on 2ch bbs. lol putting aside such an extra idea, they brought a big trouble to japan . it was crazy to step in iraq , regardless the danger.>>175
tokyo has only three days. time is running out. japanese government has already send a message to the terrorist group through a tv program of aljajira.
the other chatter thread is full of news on iraq and sounds too serious... so i come here. yesterday i watched haripota for the first time it was miserably boring that i stopped it after the boy became "the seeker" (?)
who the hell is the director??? he should be executed!
my britsh friend said to me since before, "she will win nobel prize in the near future. i was a lttl bit suprised. i thought she was a novelist for children. do i misunderstand her?
thanks for those who responded. i have never read the book but i imagine that the book is better than the movie. are they really going to make movies for all volumes? yikes!
in the near future "peter pan" will be released. im aafraid it will be as bad as haripota. book is much better, very well written, even better than the disney animation.
>>215 so make your question more precise, if you dont mind. and this is a chatter thread, in case you dont know. it is a place where people chat, talk about anything or nothing.
i see that you are not very happy with the current topic or you are not for this thread at all.
so why dont YOU get out, otherwise come up with better topic of your own instead of repeating "so what" or "anything wrong with that"

i'm depressed because nobody is worth talking to, you know. Nobody wants to talk about anything that means anything if you know what I mean. its not you, but i'm just in that sort of mood... seken banashi wa mendo kusai.
>>339 I don't understand what you mean. You are a little bit offensive. Don't live in an ivory tower. Oh, and don't bother to respond, because you are not worth talking to any more.
you seem to take everything to be offensive if thats how you wanna take it, thats fine. but if you'll notice, the tone of my english was in no way aggressive. i didnt understand what an ivory tower was though.
>>353 Sorry but I'm not Japanese. You thought I was a Jap or something? By the way I'm not Asian so don't even think about starting those Korean bullshit.
There's someone I have feelings for. I don't know maybe almost a year, I've been jerking off everyday thinking about him. But I don't think we are not gonna work out. So I hook up another one. I don't have a job now so I have time to kill. I think I'm gonna spend my time with new one tomorrow.

Ogawa the great wrestler is releasing his first CD single. It will be selling as well as Nande-daro and Saga sold big time! Japanese people like entertaining stuff very much.
I hope Ogawa will get on the Pride ring again and revenge fedor!!
I'm going to school today. I'm a bit nervous because I'm a elementary leaner of the subject I get started on today! It is, however, exciting to study what I don't know now, though.
I'm home. I'll look over what a lecturer brought up today! As today was the first lesson, it was not tough to understand it. I must keep up with the class.
I'm studying Chinese now. I like its pronunciation. And I think Spanish is very usefull in the US and South america. Not in Japan thou. I love Latin ppl. They are nice and funny.
>>457 I agree with you. Spanish-speaking population is sure to be getting large.
This is what I personally think. Spanish will be important second in line to English in buisiness in the future. Now a lot of Japanese may have started Chinese since China belonged to the WTO, but if you aim at a niche, Spanish may help!
>>462 That's a problem.. I haven't yet made my mind to support the possible strike this week. If he decides not to play baseball on the weekends, there'll come other problems, such as how much money they'll lose or what'll happen to baseball fans.
>>463 But according to the TV news or papers, most of them (not all of them, of course) agree with Furuta. It seems to me they don't care if the baseball players can't avoid strike.
It may be best if both players and managers agree on the term Furuta came up with.
Guess what! The other day when I got home and opened my door, my girlfriend was sleeping with another guy on my bed. I'm super pissed off and punched the guy again and again. I was freaked out that moment, so I don't know who the hell was that guy. But It turns out he is one of my best friend. I could barely breathe. Later of course our friend ship is over, and my girlfriend left me. She is like one of those girls who you think that you would never date. Breaking up sucks but maybe I was lucky even though she is not here any more. I'm just a ordinary man. Maybe she deserves so much better. Anyway I'm so stressed out now, but I think I could move on in a couple of weeks.
To all fans of the Japanese professional baseball, I ask you whether you agree Furuta decided to go on a strike today and all the games this weekend were called off.
I don't understand why representatives or managers or whatever I don't care, doesn't allow Livedoor in the pacific league? The baseball organization must be open to anyone who wants to come into the league. Screening is the thing that they can do after that.
>>484 Yeah, he sure is busy. Negotiating after playing baseball, fulfilling accountability about the strike on TV, can make him feel drained... Thinking of how hard he's been working, his wife should be supportive of him. And I think she is.
I just watched a NHK TV program. The title was "challenging the aging" It was very interesting. Several amazing centenarians were on the program. If you want to keep youth, it is very important to stimulate your brain and body. Do thinking and exercise everyday.
From >>602 >> A 100-year-old man who is a director of some kinder garden specialized for handicap children. He is really incredible. He decided to study Chinese when he was 95-year old. Now he keeps a diary in Chinese He showed the technique to educate or to encourage handicap children. And he made a presentation in Chinese.
MY favorite movie is by far Back to the Future. It is simply entertaining. When I first watched that movie I was a little child and was really overwhelmed by it. I still haven't had that kind of experience from a movie since this one.
I read his autobiography "Lucky Man" I enjoyed reading the book. He talked a lot about his movie careers and how the desease affected them in the book. Perkinson's desease is really scarey, but he is courageously fighting it. and I admire him for that.
anyway, I think he is campaigning for Kerry in the U.S. presidential election. is he not//? because Bush is against the embryonic stem cell reserch, which may lead to the cure for the desease.
Bush is so stupid I just cant stand him. The influences the Christina fundamentalists have on the Bush administration is really scary.
>>615 Hum, he's a great man, Michael.J.Fox. His story reminds me of Itumi-san―a formerly famous and popular announcer. If you're over 20, you may know about him. The mental strength of them (I mean both Fox and Itumi) is beyond description. It took a lot of courage to make one's own illness known to everyone.
As for Bush, I heard he himself was a religious fanatic, along with the fact that his cabinet was full of religious fanatics.
hi guys nice to meet you! let me join this chatter forum.
i watched Cashaan in copenhagen w my frds. every1 was so pissed off and disappointed the film. its a piece of shit, couldnt believe it was for copenhagen film festival... have u watched it?
I don't know much about her, but when I watched Mecha-Ike, she took pop quizes and made a lot of mistakes that made me laugh out loud. Did you watched it?
I once heard that Kamei has a nickname "Ra-men Man", because she has a chin just like his. and when I got the chance to actually see her face, I laughed out so loud. Her face is a split image of Ra-men Man's!! I almost believed that she was one of his daughters or someting.
So nothing has changed after Abe Natumi got out of the group, right?
To be honest, the members who belong to the category 6 are not so similar to me. I mean, I may have watched them on TV but coundn't recognize who's who.
Kamei is a huge fan of Johnny's idols. It is well documented that the reason she decided to audition for Mo-musu is to get close to them. Some say she has fucked some of Johnny's menbers already. Most of her fans have accepted the fact and are enjoying it.
U2 and billy joel? those are two extreme choises! i like altanative. i don't have japanese characters on my system so all i can read is english sentences ...and gibberish.

>>724 nice areas! i live in east at moment, but im looking 4 a flat now. hope i can live in hampstead area but i know its too expensive... sigh wot did u do in london? uni student, language or bussiness?
I had to reveiw the lecture I took yesterday, but I was lazy enough not to do it while I saw this message system and posted some messages. Damn, what did I do? I regret that I didn't study today.
Well,I was a student for learning english. And you?Have you been there for long? I did love living London at that time and never wanted to leave. Hampstead!its a fantastic area!Finding a good flat is quite tough, isnt it ?I hope you can find nice one soon. As for me,Cameden Town was the best to live in as it was really convenient and ..curious!
Hi! I've just came back to Japan from London. It was short stay to study english but I really wanted to stay there, too. >>732, have u ever been to London or another foreign country?
>>734 Exactry. >>735 Gosh! I didn't feel so at all! Why do u think so? That's ture there are less opportunity to hear correct English than minority English by indian english, African blackman, or Korean, but English used on the road is quite different which in class in Japan, at least for me. How well can you understand something like novels or films in English?
I often feel I have difficulties getting across what I have in mind in English. First, I can't respond quickly if I'm talked to in English. What's worst, I wouldn't understand fully what they say because both of the lack of my listning ability and small amount of vocablary. What can I do to better my English?
The reason I felt that I could learn English in Japan was my main interest about English was to understand English. I'm not interested in speaking with foreigner, though this may sound strange. I want to understand films and news such as CNN and BBC. And I can listen to them with skyperfectTV in Japan and DVD is usefel.
Of course, ordinary people who want to speak foreigners in English should go abroad.
I don't have any overseas friends, but the other day, I ran into English-speaking people on the train. And then I tried to eavesdrop on them. What I can hear was, " you know what I mean?" One of them use the phrase so often I felt she sounded stupid.
>>741 I studied eagerly before traveling in America. My TOEIC score was 815 and had Eiken pre 1st grade. I think it's desirable to get TOEIC score of at least 700 or 800 before studying abroad. If you have enough money and time, studying abroad is surely good.
I'm >>736 and thank you for your response, >>740. Now I comprehend what you mean, but I think it's not general as you mentioned, neither. In my opinion, if you really want to understand some films, it would be better to speak with native speakers to get some new expressions. Of course it depends on films... some of those have too many slang and some doesn't. Anyway, my perpose is to communicate with foreigners. Maybe European culture suits me and I felt comfortable when I was in London. In Japan, everyone is too shy.
>>729 sry 4 late answer. i just came back now... thanks 4 relpying me. im uni student, being here almost 4years... i dont like london that much sry, its ok but not great 4 me. i quite like japan. london is ok but too dirty, expensive, low quiality, shit weather as u know. but ppl r quite friendly. im really busy on uni work, so i havent enjoyed clubbing or sth like nite life. neway its not my type as well... i like chillig out at home hehe. yeah i like cameden as well. i ate Takoyaki in camden! whee thanks 4 my flat hunting, pls cross ur fingers 4 me! :p
neway, i have 2 go 2bed now, its already 1am! good nite guys cya 2moro!
We all know TOEIC suks. But a lot of interviewers asked me to if I have TOEIC score when I was looking for job. If you have high score, you could have a lot of chances to get a good job. So TOEIC is not bad at all.
Do you know about †TADAIMA† the greatest entertainer on this message system? He believe GE, which is a famous English-learning method, helps master English.
As I said before, I got the PC back today, which means there's two PCs in my place. One of them is mine. So I just got started on putting in a wire-less LAN system, As a refult of which I can read and write on this message system! Thank you!
Right now The most important thing for me to do is to get the reality. I get up at night and go to bed early in the morning. I just can't figure out how to control myself. It's been a real struggle dealing with breaking up with someone you're still in love with. Good thing is that I don't have a job right now, so I have a lot of time to fix myself.
On the way home, I bought a newly released book by Keigo Higashino. The story is probably aimed at gender related things. I have yet to read most of it, though.
↑ haha! thanks! its not complain, juts my opinion. u dont like me? yeah i dont like u too ;) ur opinion is not always right. but if u wanna trust it, just do it for urself :D

I used to work in an Eglish enviroment(kind of). Right now, I don't speak English any more. If you don't speak the language you learned, you forget. How sad..... Is anybody here??? right now?
or reply me if you see this, so I could practise Eglish a little??
It is a national holiday today. I saw some people going into Macdonald's on the way to work. There are happy people, and sad people like myself who have to work on a national holiday....
When you want to master a language, you need to master its formalities. Concern yourself with constructing well-formed sentences first and foremost!
The content, the high-level subjects of expression will arrive naturally. It doesn't matter whether you want to talk about something important. If you make all kinds of grammatical and spelling errors you will just sound like a fool, and in the end the meaning of your words will become confused until you don't know anymore what you meant to say in the first place.
I think that it's important to have good grammar, spelling, and what-have-you. But I also think that intelligent people with an open mind are willing to look past small errors. All of us make some spelling mistakes from time to time. We all occasionally choose the wrong word. The most important thing is that we have thoughts and ideas which are worth expressing; if we can communicate those ideas, that's enough, don't you think?
For what it's worth, I am willing to give a lot more slack to people who are not speaking their native language. I'm learning just how hard that can be.
Of course, foreign people are excused. They really have to try, native speakers don't, so their efforts count as a plus.
And it's also interesting to see what common mistakes Japanese people make when they try to write or speak English. From these mistakes, you can sometimes draw conclusions regarding the Japanese language.
But I don't think one should look over errors simply because everybody makes them. That's just not my attitude.
"Spring has come" is still used today, but it is primarily in written form, and not spoken, except by rich white people. "Spring's here" or "It's spring" or "OH HOLY SHIT I'M FUCKING SNEEZING OH MY GOD ALLERGIES I FUCKING HATE THIS SEASON" are more common, as far as I can tell.
>>857 As a Japanese who is learning English, I appreciate your consideration. But many of those who come and talk in this thiread or other threads like this seem to want native or near native speakers to correct their unnatural usage of English. After all, English "ita" is not a general ita written in English but one that has specific purposes of learning or studying English.
>>858 I admire your attitude. Some people don't like their English criticized by others and make some harsh comments on fluent speakers of English like you. But don't be turned off by that kind of remarks and please visit 2ch as often as possible.
Your English is very good. I want to (I don't recommend using wanna in written sentences) be like you. I don't have enough vocabulary and ability to write English.
Hi, wanker! How are you? What do you have any plan on 24th this month EVE? I am going to sex with my 3 girlfriends but I send them nice presents so I'll have no money. I envy you because you will stay home and wank that day.
Hi, everyone. Today, I'd like to talk about leraning English in Japan. How can we improve our English skill ?
Some people say that do the OUTPUT is the key to enhance English skill. I don't sure whether true or not. Recently, I've been doing the INPUT learning. But I've felt a kind of limit. Usually, I read English newspaper, memorize English words, listen to VOA,AFN, something like that. I think I do my best everyday. However, I don't have enough opportunity to speak to someone in English. That's why , I'm writting down here in English.
