高校の教科書です、和訳をお願いします…。

職を探しに街まで出てきたMenonは、持ち金を全て盗まれてしまい途方に暮れる。
仕方なくMenonはシク教徒に15ルピーを貸してもらった。
When Menon asked for his address so that he could repay the man,
the Sikh said that Menon owed the debt to any stranger who came to him indeed,
as long as he lived.
The help came from stranger and was to be rapaied to a stranger.
Menon never forgot that debt.
Neither the gift of trust nor the fifteen rupees.

大体は分かるのですが、2行目の the Sikh said that ... がうまく訳せません。
また最後の Neither ... も同様です。
