The long tradition of Swiss design/construction competitions allowed Maillart to win designs that he probably would not have gotten had design commissions been awarded directly by public officials to consulting engineers.

These forms were built often in narrow valleys up in the hills and mountains of Switzerland, nearly all in only two of the Swiss cantons: the Graubunden and Bern.

もし設計委員会が直接コンサルを選定していたらそうはならなかっただろう。

これらの形態はしばしばスイスの山奥の険しい峡谷に建設された。その殆どは
スイス国内でもグラウビュンデンとベルンの二つのカントンに集中している。

ちなみにマイヤールは有名な橋梁設計者。
