DENVER -- Denver prosecutors have charged a man and a woman with providing
a criminal form of "sex education" to the man's preteen son.
Both adults face two felony counts of sexual assault on a child. The father is also
charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
The charges allege the boy was forced to watch and participate in sexual acts, said
Denver District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
A police affidavit said the sex education occurred in October or November of 2002,
when the boy was 12 years old.
Police began investigating last month after a family member reported the alleged sexual
assault to authorities.
The boy told detectives that his father had asked him if his mother had "talked to him
about the birds and bees" and if he wanted to have sex.
He said that he told his father, "Not really."
The father, nevertheless, took the boy to a Denver motel three times, where the boy was
first forced to watch his father and his ex-girlfriend have sex and then forced to watch
and participate the next two times, according to an arrest affidavit.
The 40-year-old man, who is not being identified to protect the identity of his son, was
arrested a year ago for having child pornography on a computer. He is now serving time
in state prison.
The woman, Bobbie Hildebrand, 54, is being held in the Denver County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
The boy's father and mother are divorced.
