【ニューヨーク＝池松洋】米紙ニューヨーク・タイムズ(電子版)は25日、ユナイテッド航空を
傘下に持つUALとコンチネンタル航空の合併交渉が大詰めを迎え、来週中にも合意する可能性が
あると報じた。
実現すれば、デルタ航空とノースウエスト航空が合併によって設立する新会社を上回り、
世界最大の航空会社となる。
ユナイテッドとコンチネンタルの交渉は、14日にデルタとノースウエストが合併合意を発表
したことを受けて、急展開したという。
米航空業界は、原油高による燃料費高騰の影響で大手5社の2008年1〜3月期決算が軒並み赤字に
なるなど、経営状況が悪化している。このため、最大手のアメリカン航空も他社との合併を模索
していると報じられており、大型再編が相次ぐ可能性がある。
