The word "around" is a PREPOSITION, and it doesn't necessarily separate the rim from the plate.
In order to be precise you could say "green rim along the edge of the plate,"
but that's quite wordy. And I wouldn't say "rim of the plate"
because rimmed plates are uncommon in major English-speaking countries.
