one 2002 playoff series was rigged thusly: ''Referees A and F heavily favored Team 6.
Personal fouls (resulting in obviously injured players) were ignored even when they occurred in full view of the referees.
Conversely, the referees called made-up fouls on Team 5 in order to give aditional free-throw opportunities for Team 6.
''Their foul-calling also led to the ejection of two Team 5 players.
The referees' favoring of Team 6 led to that team's victory that night,
and Team 6 came back from behind to win the series.''
Lakers' title tainted?
We don't know the truth of these allegations, but that particular series is believed to be the Lakers-Sacramento Kings series.
The Lakers shot 27 free throws in the fourth quarter of Game 6, (to the Kings' nine),
won the game, then won Game 7, advanced and went on to win the 2002 championship.
At least in part they were done, according to Donaghy,
because ''top executives of the NBA sought to manipulate games using referees to boost ticket sales and television ratings.
