先に報道された「気候変動ゲート（climate gate)の続報、ワシントンポスト。この問題は地球温暖化研究の英国のセンター
のひとつであるEast Anglia大学、気候変動研究ユニットの電子メールのサーバーがハックされて、研究者の電子メールが
ネットで公開されたことに端を発するもので、気候変動は人為的行動が原因とする研究者が、それに批判的な研究者の論
文を論文誌に載せないように圧力をかけるなど、科学的ではなく政治的な行動をチームワークで行っていたことが明らかに
なった。気候変動に与える人為行為の影響の程度はともかく、研究成果を発表させないようにするといった不当な圧力は
それ（政治的行動）を行っている研究者への信頼をなくする行為である。

Electronic files that were stolen from a prominent climate research center and made public last week provide a rare
glimpse into the behind-the-scenes battle to shape the public perception of global warming.
気候変動の研究で著名な英国の大学からハッキングされた電子メールが先週公表されて、地球温暖化問題についての
世論形成に関わる、研究者の影の戦いというのを垣間見せることになった。
East Anglia大学の気候変動研究所長であるPhil Jonesが、ペンシルバニア州立大学のMichael E. Mannに当てた電子メー
ルでは、気候変動への人為的行動の影響に批判的な研究者の論文を、著名な論文誌IPCC reportから排除することを述
べている。
"I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report," Jones writes. "Kevin and I will keep them out
somehow -- even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"
さらに別の電子メールでは、この二人が批判派の論文を論文誌に掲載させないように圧力をかけることを議論している。
In another, Jones and Mann discuss how they can pressure an academic journal not to accept the work of climate
skeptics with whom they disagree. "Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community
to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal," Mann writes.
