Title Middle East Becomes Korea`s Biggest Source of Imports

As global oil prices continue to soar, the Middle East has emerged as Korea's biggest source
of imports. New data from the Bank of Korea show the value of imports from the Middle East
reaching close to US$31 billion for the year's first half. This is up 49 percent from the same
period last year.
On the other hand, shipments from Japan, which accounted for the largest share of imports into Korea
from 2000 through 2005, rose only 7 percent to $25 billion. Experts say at the current pace imports from the
Middle East will surpass $60 billion by the year's end, $10 billion more than those from Japan.
