ヨークタウンの命中弾は、中央リフト前方でした。
The one direct hit struck the flight deck about 23 feet forward of No.2 elevator
and about 15 feet from the island structure. Recovered fragments indicated that
it was a projectile of about 12 inches in diameter. It pierced the flight deck, making
a hole 14 inches in diameter, passed through No.3 ready room, the hangar deck and
the second deck, angling toward the starboard side. It then hit a beam and stanchion
and angled back to port, piercing the third deck. It exploded in the aviation store room
about 3 feet above the fourth deck, killing 37 men outright and injuring others.
「一発の爆弾が飛行甲板を直撃した。命中箇所は第二リフト前方２３フィート（約７メートル）で、
艦橋から１５フィート（４．６メートル）付近だった。
後に回収された弾片から、爆弾の直径が１２インチ（３０センチ）であることが判明した。
爆弾は飛行甲板を突き抜けて直径１４インチ（３６センチ）の穴を開け、第三待機室、格納庫甲板、
第二甲板も通過し、そこで右舷側へ方向を変え、更には支柱に接触して再び左舷側へ向かい、
第三甲板まで達した。
そして第四甲板上方３フィート（９１センチ）の飛行科倉庫で爆発し、３７名が戦死、その他負傷者
を出した」
爆弾の通過経路まで、実に詳細な記録ですね。
