The honorable Mr. Matsumoto talks about "The New Spaceship Yamato" on his birthday.
It was January 25th. It was the honorable Mr. Matsumoto's 63rd birthday. Some VS staff members visited Mr. Matsumoto's house.
VS staffs who visited Mr. Matsumoto to celebrate him were welcome by his wife, the distinctive manga artist Miyako Maki, and the
daughter. The staffs received cheerful hospitality just like the family.
1月25日（木）。松本零士先生の63回目のお誕生日。先生のご自宅にて。
奥様で漫画家の牧美也子先生、お嬢様とご一緒の和やかな雰囲気の中に、まるで家族のように迎えていただいた。
お祝いにうかがったのだが、逆にスタッフのほうが歓待を受けてしまう。
Pieces of cakes were served on the table and heightened the atmosphere for the celebration. Even in this situation, however, Mr.
Matsumoto still thought about "The New Spaceship Yamato ", which will be televised on the fall in 2002. By degrees, he started to give off the spiritual aura as a distinctive animation creator quietly and enthusiastically.
お祝いのケーキを囲みながらも、のぼる話題はやはり、2002年秋からTVシリーズの始まる「新宇宙戦艦ヤマト」だ。
家族の中でのくつろぎの表情とは違った、静かな熱さを湛えるクリエイターのオーラが、松本先生から立ち昇る。
"The New Spaceship Yamato is the animation, integrating who we are and what we are supposed to be as human-beings. I will direct
my whole attention, not as a manga artist but as a human-being, on the New Spaceship Yamato.", Mr. Matsumoto says. His words,
filled with determinations for his own life, excited VS staffs.
”｢新宇宙戦艦ヤマトは、漫画家としてではなく、人間としてのありかたや人生観を全て集約する作品。生涯を賭けた仕事」。
信念に満ちた先生の言葉に、スタッフは胸を熱くする。”
With aspirations by Mr. Matsumoto, VS staffs, and the fans, "The New Spaceship Yamato " travels through space.
"The New Spaceship Yamato " carries all sorts of hopes, desires, ideals, and aspirations that all the people involved in "Yamato"
maintain in heart. It is not just an artificial spaceship any more.
先生の想い、スタッフの想い、ファンの想いをのせて宇宙を航海する船。
｢新宇宙戦艦ヤマト」の重さは、ヤマトに関わる全ての人間の想いの重さである。
もはや架空の船ではない。
How do we make "Yamato" travel in the 21st century? How do we clearly visualize it?
Mr. Matsumoto and VS staffs shared opinions and ideas very enthusiastically.
It was one minute to twelve o'clock on the 25th when VS staffs left Mr. Matsumoto's house.
この「ヤマト」を 、新世紀、どう旅立たせるのか？
命を鼓舞する鼓動をどう表現するのか。
先生とともに、熱く語り合うスタッフ。
