- Parliament is averse to using its power to monitor inappropriate use of presidential and executive office. It is complacent when it comes to administrative corruption. It is unruffled by disregard of its consensual policy resolutions reflective of mass sentiment. To most Pakistanis their parliament appears a prohibitively expensive irrelevance rather than the prime tool for the democratic way of good governance. The real problem for democracy now is that the fresh electoral reference that both parliament and the president were so keen to circumvent no longer seems that much of an answer. Past their midterm, the main political parties and democracyกฏs hereditary constituency candidates have almost incontrovertibly disproved the merits of a second chance. And the degradation of the overall social and political fabric through the power of corrupting money and coercive criminality จC so evident in Karachi จC handicaps and deters fresh entrants.
